Excellent vegan breakfast burrito! Very large and filling. They had some yummy looking pastries as well! Pretty popular place it seemed- long lines at peak times. Unfortunately, they were out of matcha when I visited. I tried an iced coffee as result and wasn't a big fan for the price. They have oat and almond milk as options instead of regular milk and up charge 80¢ to 1$ for the change of milk. They also have fully compostable cups/ straws which is great! I'd go back! read more

Stopped in on my way to work for a quick coffee. The location is next to Forsyth Park close to the tennis courts. There is a parking lot in front of the cafe but if you've ever been to Forsyth Park you know how packed that lot gets pretty early. Luckily I was able to find street parking and popped in and out within 5 minutes. I saw lots of cute sandwiches and treats but opened to get a smoothie rather than coffee. I really felt at home in the chill crunchy vibes at Sentient Bean and had a very memorable breakfast last weekend! I'm still thinking about the vegan breakfast burrito...which was the perfect combination of flavors and made me feel so nourished. The hot sauce and salsa on the side are the perfect accompaniments. They also have a great baked goods section and I can personally vouch for the savory scones, which to me are kind of reminiscent of those highly addictive cheddar biscuits from Red Lobster in texture and flavor. I do not know if my gf and I just went on an off day, but we did not have a great experience. The food was so bland. My gf got a bagel and cream cheese. The bagel was not toasted and was so stale. The cream cheese came in a block in a container (which is no big deal but the bagel wasn't even good). My food was actually okay but my drink was super watered down. Stopped by for some coffee and breakfast. Simple menu and didn't know it was a vegan spot so was able to try items I never have. I had the Shakeratto which is espresso, a dash of sugar, shaken over ice. I also added hazelnut. It was good - interesting. We also had the egg and cheese on a croissant. This is a first: I am so disappointed in my experience here that I'm writing this review while still sitting at my table. And I really hate to give negative reviews to locally-owned small businesses; especially one that goes out of its way to prepare items for vegans and vegetarians. My disappointment began even before I placed my order. As I approached the cafe, I noticed the sign in tbe window that stated that a nose and mouth cover were mandatory inside. So I dutifully put on my N95 mask, opened the door, and walked inside. And the first thing I noticed was that while all of the customers had their masks on, none of the staff did! (See photo.) How does that make any sense?! I then walked up to the counter and placed my order of a vegan breakfast burrito and a large coffee. I paid at the counter (tipping 20% at the time) and was handed a statue and told to take a seat at a table and my order would be brought to me. I sat down and 10 minutes later my burrito was brought to me. When I asked about my coffee, the runner told me that it had been sitting at the other end of the counter. Which no one had told me, of course. So the runner walked up to the counter and brought me the now lukewarm cup of coffee. And speaking of lukewarm, when I bit into my burrito, the middle was exactly that. Actually, the burrito was hot on the outside, and cold in the middle. Calling it lukewarm is being generous. And finally, the burrito was supposed to be served with a "side of house salsa," which of course, I did not receive. Normally, when something is amiss with my meal, I'll speak up and get it corrected. But in this case, I was so perturbed ny the whole experience, I just wanted to finish eating my lukewarm burrito and drinking my by now cold coffee, and leave. read more

So I got an egg & cheese on a croissant with a chai latte. The sandwich was good. The chai was great! I found out they make it in house. Great view, right across from Forsyth Park. Super nice staff, okay food, cute coffee shop/cafe. The service was pretty good. We didn't have too wait too long for our food. The guy running the counter was very efficient and kind. The food wasn't bad by any means but not amazing. I got the peach ginger loaf (which tasted like a more subtle gingerbread man in sponge cake form- yummy) and oatmeal with drip coffee. My food and coffee were good, just nothing special. There's a lot of room to sit inside, but there also tables outside in the front and in the patio in the back. Highly recommend sitting in the back patio- it's super cute! It's not loud so it's a nice place to just get some breakfast or coffee and hang out. Friendly counter service, answered questions about the menu and was very helpful. We ordered a shakearotto which the counter person explained was an expresso with sugar over ice. Also a hot chai, and 2 vegan breakfast burritos. Our drinks were ready quickly and a food runner brought out our burritos a few minutes later. There was plenty of seating and a sign for a back patio which we did not see. The portion size was very good for the burritos and the drinks were delicious and full of the caffeine we needed. The order taker had given us a trophy to take to the table so the food runner could find us, this was in lieu of something like a table number and added to the charm if the place. I also ordered a treat from their bakery case to go, a vegan nutter butter chocolate brownie type thing. It was scrumptious and perfectly moist and chocolatey. Sentient Bean is a cool spot for a morning coffee. It has a hip granola like vibe with a very inclusive customer base. The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable about their food and coffees. I got the Chilli scone. So flavorful & tasty along with my latte. Sitting outside in the sun facing the beautiful Forsyth Park and watching the world go by slowly. Heaven. I could stay here all day. 5 stars for the outside patio that at least has 1 outlet outside, and for the spaced out seating. 5 stars for the incredible vegan and non-vegan menu. 5 stars for the strong wifi and abundance of indoor outlets. But I have to drop a star for the coffee. It wasn't great. I liked it, but I wasn't impressed. I think the problem was that both my drip coffee-with just a splash of oat milk-and my fiancé's cappuccino which supposedly had steamed oat milk-both ended up luke warm very quickly. Either the coffee wasn't hot or the place was too cold or her milk wasn't steamed and mine was kept on ice. We'll probably come back tomorrow to get some more work done because it's hard to find a vegan breakfast menu that great, but hopefully the coffee is hotter and fresher. read more
