This place has gone from amazing local food with a South African twist to complete commercialized garbage. Local Savannah foodie pages have been saying the same thing for years. Even after the 2021 rebrand, it still held on for a while, but something in the last 5 years at the main office has completely lost touch. They expanded to three locations: ; downtown, Tybee, and Hilton Head, and in the process the whole identity fell apart. The menu has been gutted of its originality. The "OG" items are now overpriced, portion sizes have been cut in half, and the original sides that made it special are gone. [[HIGHLIGHT]]What used to be a simple, order-and-sit-down experience is now chaotic.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You're herded in by an overstaffed but somehow still disorganized team of high-turnover employees with zero consistency and very little emotional intelligence. There are always way too many staff for the number of customers, yet service somehow keeps getting worse. Last night was the final straw. We tried the Tybee location first, waited 30 minutes just to be seated, only to be told they were basically out of everything and could only do drinks. So we drove to downtown. Same exact thing. Out of sausage. When we asked if we could just remove it or substitute it, we didn't get a simple no, we got an "absolutely not," because apparently everything is pre-mixed and nothing can be adjusted. Even worse once we sat down. It took 15 minutes just to be asked for drink orders. A different server came over, introduced himself like we were starting fresh, and then got visibly annoyed when we said we'd already ordered water and a soda. From there it just kept getting more awkward. At one point he bumped my cup while I was literally lifting it to my lips and told me to "watch out" while he was placing food down. He took forever to check us out and finally bring our soda to go, and ended the night by saying, "just so you know I'm faster than the other girl," like we were in the middle of some weird staff competition we didn't sign up for. [[HIGHLIGHT]]On the outside it still looks like a fun Savannah staple. But once you sit down, you realize you're no longer a local guest, you're trapped in an overhyped tourist operation that's completely lost what made it good in the first place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I had Zunzibar (also known as Zunzi's) recommended to me by several family members as a great place to grab a meal in Savannah, as it serves up one of the best chicken sandwiches in the world (probably according to some random "culinary expert" or magazine/poll). I figured I'd put the claims to the test for myself. The places is well decorated with both outdoor patio and indoor seating, with fun vacation vibes. We ordered the Fire Island (peri-peri blackened mahi) and Conquistador (chicken) sandwiches. Both sandwiches (4.5/5) were absolutely delicious and prepared using fresh and flavorful ingredients. I'm glad I asked for the sauces on the side for the chicken sandwich, as I only liked 1 of the 2 sauces. The Zapp's potato chips were your standard run of the mill potato chips, but were a decent accompaniment to the sandwiches. I'd certainly be a regular customer for their chicken sandwich if I lived closer. The funny thing is that I had an Uber driver raving about the same sandwich when I brought it up the following day. Service (5/5) was kind and friendly throughout the meal. I look forward to returning here for their Conquistador chicken sandwich, and will be recommending Zunzibar to others who visit Savannah.

Fire Island sandwich. Mahi mahi. Excellent. The roll seeming amazingly fresh.

What a bright, tropical, laid back, fun place! This is a diverse and casual sandwich joint . . . think things made with chicken, sausage, provolone, salmon, tomato, onion, and even curry chicken salad or falafel. They also serve nachos, chips and dip, oysters. I didn't have food, came here for drinks only. They have a great selection of margaritas, beer, and even THC drinks. They also have wine, shots, brunch drinks. I had a special, a hibiscus mojito, which was crisp, clean, and delish. I had the mango margarita to go. Beautiful, bountiful, not too sweet, wicked cold on a 90+ degree day. My server was amazing. The space was bright and open, with garage doors that open to their patio. Tropical vibes, with neon. Live music was setting up when I was leaving, so I would love to come back and check out the entertainment. And if you say, "shit yeah!" you get 10% off. This was a great place. Very quirky. Hip Savannah. Cool for all ages, you can be older or middle age and still have a good time. Would definitely go back . . . and if nothing else, I think they have a to-go window!

Great service and a fun vibe! Visited with a group of 6 for dinner. Had the Conquistador with chips and it did not disappoint. Service was quick and the sandwich absolutely hit the spot. Great choice for a laid back lunch or dinner!

I discovered Zunzi's many moons ago, back when they operated out of a small building off York Street under the original ownership. Since then, the business has undergone a major transformation with new ownership--modernizing the experience while staying true to many of its signature dishes. The new location is impressive, set in a renovated garage that now features a fully stocked bar and a large outdoor patio. Their iconic rainbow umbrellas provide great shade during the hot summer months, and in the winter, the space transforms with cozy igloos for a unique dining experience. Zunzi's has expanded with multiple locations around town and in surrounding areas. Their menu offers a great selection of sandwiches, bowls, and wings, and they also cater for work events. They have a rewards program called the 26 Club, which gives members points and discounts--a great bonus if you're a regular. Personally, I love their wings and often order them for delivery (especially when there's a BOGO deal!). The staff is always friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable--especially when it comes to food allergies, which I really appreciate

The Conquistador at Zunzi's is a loaded chicken sandwich with provolone, parmesan, lettuce, tomato, and their signature Zunzi's sauce and dressing on fresh French bread. Messy, flavorful, and filling--classic Zunzi's comfort food that hits every time. Great service from staff. Nice ambiance with moderate to loud music.

I love the food here! They have indoor and outdoor seating. The service is always good and quick. They have a great text rewards program too!

Sad to say it but this food was a bit underwhelming. We were very excited to try their signature sandwich The conquistador but honestly, it just really had no flavor. The bread was good tasted very fresh and soft, but I was expecting way more flavor from the South African style restaurant and the good reviews especially because it's one of the places on a Savannah food tour. Service was great, they took care of us, and it's a really nice patio. But I'm just a little bit surprised that it's on a food tour. Was not a huge fan.

Upon entry, there was a bar and it was very crowded and a little loud. But everyone was super friendly (and respectful) and seemed to be having an awesome time. (Might have stopped in if the entire family hadn't been with me!) A short walk down the hall was Betty Bombers...all real American food. The artwork was awesome, especially since both of my grandfathers were in WWII, and some of it looked familiar. The table ordered everything from salads, to a HUMUNGOUS hotdog for the kid (he originally wanted two and the waitress told him to start with one LOL), cheeseburgers, a pastrami sandwich, and a ration size portion of steak and cheese fries for me. I really liked how they offered smaller portions for a lot of their items, especially since we had a huge lunch. Everyone's food came out but mine. When I pointed it out to the waiter (who didn't take our order), he went to check and said it was his mistake and he would bring it out shortly. It took less than five minutes to come out and he offered me a milkshake for the wait. I had already had Leopold's that day but my cousin hadn't so he got a Mint Chocolate Chip milkshake. He really liked it. All of the food was good. I wanted to point out that my steak and cheese fries said ribeye and queso in the description. Yes, that was probably ribeye (it was tender and delicious) and while it was technically queso, Cheez whiz would have been a more apt description. That's ok, because it was good. Overall, a wonderful experience. I really liked how the waiter took accountability and fixed it. Very much appreciated. I would 100% return.

Looking back, we probably should've kept right on walking. We ordered the fried chicken, potato wedges, red rice, New Orleans rice, and cabbage, jalapeno cornbread and pecan cornbread. Unfortunately, the only things we actually enjoyed were the fried chicken and the potato wedges. Once again, it was an epic fail. The cabbage tasted like it had been boiled in plain water with absolutely no seasoning. Both the red rice and the New Orleans rice reminded us of Minute Rice or Uncle Ben's microwavable rice--bland, lacking flavor, and nothing like the rich, seasoned rice dishes we were expecting. The fried chicken was crispy, juicy, and well-seasoned, and the potato wedges were cooked perfectly, but those two items weren't enough to save the meal. We came hoping for authentic Southern comfort food, but left disappointed. Sadly, this is one restaurant we won't be adding to our list of places to revisit.
