So glad we went to The Laundry Diner on our last morning in Savannah (we were invited by staffer Tyla, whom we'd met elsewhere), because it wound up being one of the best meals we had (and that's saying a lot) on this trip. It's a really pretty, sunny room with a few different seating areas (bar, upstairs, main seating, sidewalk, etc.) just a short Uber (or middling walk) from Downtown. Reasonably priced and totally worth your trip over to check it out. Might be my best breakfast of the year so far, and it's December! Short rib hash bowl was both moist and crispy, just the right side of too salty and had some real zing. Umami, for sure! Yum (my mouth's watering just thinking of it a couple days later)! My wife loved her inexpensive (but perfect) waffle and bacon and her hot toddy was pretty inspired. I grabbed a piece of gingerbread cake for the plane home and that proved to be an inspired idea. Tyla took great care of us, whirling around all the other tables and other staffers. Wow, but the place is hopping. Looking at the inspired menu and especially all the baked goods and shakes, well - right then we made up our minds that we HAD to return to Savannah - to eat more of this! I was really excited to try this new locally owned diner and wanted to love it. Unfortunately, the food was a big disappointment, especially for the prices. Our server was friendly and helpful, which I appreciated. But the food just didn't deliver. I ordered the turkey club (~$20), which was supposed to have honey mustard. The sauce soaked into the bread and didn't taste like honey mustard at all, making the sandwich hard to eat. We also ordered the steak frites (~$30). The steak was overcooked and had clearly been sliced without resting, so it was tough and lacked juice. The chicken and waffles were also underwhelming--the chicken was bland, and the waffle was soggy inside with a strong cinnamon flavor that tasted undercooked. None of us ended up eating more than a few bites of our meals, which was disappointing given how excited we were to try the place. On the positive side, the marinara served with the mozzarella bites was very good, and the ambiance is cute (though the seating isn't the most comfortable). I really hope they work out the kitchen issues, because it would be great to have a solid locally owned diner here. Right now, though, the food quality just doesn't match the prices. read more

We put our name on the list and were advised that it would be about 20 to 30 minutes before we were seated. We were allowed to sit at the outdoor picnic tables that were not occupied until our party was called. I asked for a menu so that we could know what we were going to order by the time we got to the table because we were already hungry.We sat downstairs, so I'm uncertain what the upstairs looks like, but downstairs was really nice. We thought a lot of thought was put into the décor and design. Our server was very busy, but she was also very attentive. We decided to try the quiche and shrimp salad sandwich with fries as appetizers. For entrées, we ordered the shrimp and grits and two short rib hash with a waffle. There were three of us, and we split everything. The shrimp in the shrimp salad were large I just wanted more flavor. The quiche was tasty and the crust was flakey. My favorites out of everything we had were the short rib hash and the waffle. I thoroughly enjoyed the texture of the waffle. I definitely plan to return. read more

Stopped by around 11:30 am on a holiday week Tuesday. There were only two of us but there was a 30 minute wait due to the "kitchen getting backed up". Not really sure what that means... We waited out in the cold for thirty minutes and were then seated. After placing our orders (patty melt and butternut squash toast), we waited another 30 minutes to receive our food. The patty melt was mediocre. Not a whole lot of flavor. The toast was decent and soft boiled eggs were cooked perfectly. The ambiance was great. We appreciated the repurposing of the former laundry and dry cleaner building, great location and the food was delicious. Service was attentive and informative. We had the chicken sandwich with the Tallow fries and everything was just yummy, but we had a problem with parking. Apparently, it was street sweeping time when we were there after 8:00 p.m. on a Tuesday. Problem is there's no private parking lot for the diner, so you can ONLY park on the street. How exactly are out of towners supposed to navigate the parking situation? Interestingly, we did not get this ticket on site, they tracked our car to river's edge where we went to have an evening nightcap and gave us the ticket there. So Savannah if you're trying to encourage more tourism, this is certainly a very poor way to do so and will be costing your local businesses a lot of money.We will never return! read more

The short rib was great, but for the price I expected a better balance. The pickles were good, but the fries were too salty for us. The Laundry Diner has it all. Pleasant staff. Great ambiance. Scrumptious food, and to think some 30 odd years ago, it was a laundry. My, my what they've done to the place! With their all-day menu, there's plenty to choose from. Our amicable waiter, Kolton was very efficient in helping with our selection. We chose their awesome Breakfast Burrito and Brian's BLT, which was stacked high with Bacon. The Burrito was so big, I took half home for another meal. Even the Hush Puppies had their own tasteful twist. The interior is airy and huge. The first and second levels have tables and barstools all nicely spaced. A staircase leads up to the second level. Tables are also situated outside. Everything at The Laundry Dinner was top shelf. We did wait 10 minutes for our table upstairs, but, what's 10 minutes! What a neat place to eat. I recommend the upstairs where you're out of the restaurant's traffic flow. Very very good chicken and waffle. Huge piece of chicken, great breading though it could have been maybe a little less breading, excellent gravy (and hot, too), and a very good waffle to boot. The syrup was great too. Real maple syrup, I think. We got the pimento appetizer too with really good picked okra on it. Wife's breakfast burrito was very good, too. The tortilia wrap was excellent. Service was good. Well we went back and as usual amazing only had shakes this time late night snack for me and the toddler staff always sweet and just so great about everything love how the decorated and everything about location is great. I have thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant and the service that they provide. You can really work with all budgets at this restaurant and I really like that. I enjoyed the Froot Loops waffle as well as the mozzarella sticks, but they're not called mozzarella sticks on the menu. I love the drink with the Powerade Sprite, and the cherry. Very very tasty. The fries were the best I've have in many years and a reason alone to return. Why fries? I think they are cooked in beef tallow which must make a difference. Light, crispy and perfectly salted. We got the shorty rib hash bowl and a slice of lattice pie. The bowl looked amazing when it came out. We had the over-easy eggs on top. When I took my first bite, though, there really wasn't much flavor. It was a bit disappointing. I thought the ribs were moist enough, but my husband says they were dry. There just wasn't any depth of flavor, so we added pepper and hot sauce and it made a big difference, although we would have preferred not to have to add anything. The pie was dry, actually. The spices looked like a paste on the slices of apple and felt a little gritty. It tasted okay, but too dry and not dynamic enough to really say too much about. It's industrial with exposed metal beams, exposed brick walls, cleaned up/removed floor tiles now concrete floors and vintage style vinyl and chrome counter stools. It has a wonderful - feel good vibe here. To break down our order - -Onion Rings for starters, 5 stars, crispy hand cut onions served hot-yummy! A reorder next time! -Hush puppies, 5 stars, hubs wanted to try, and they had a crunchy exterior and soft cornmeal like interior. Thankfully, they were the traditional savory hush puppy - not sweet. Served with a yummy, in-house made Laundry sauce. -Sausage biscuit gravy, 1 star, while the biscuit itself was a home run, the sausage gravy fell flat, was boring and bland. At first taste we thought it was just a milk gravy, and that we had misread the menu. It was indeed sausage gravy, but the sausage they use is bland. They need to kick this menu item up a notch or 3 by using a well seasoned sausage. Not a reorder. -Meatloaf with gravy and vegetable of the day, Shishito peppers, 5 stars. Arrived around 1030 on a Saturday and we got a seat right at the counter. Very friendly staff and we had multiple people checking on us. I had a Cinnamon Toast Crunch covered waffle and a Fruity Pebbles covered waffle. Not only tasted great but very well priced. Wife got the fried chicken sandwich and as much as I liked my waffles, hers was better and would recommend it to anyone. Also had the diner lager and will 100% be back to try the diner IPA. Sunday Afternoon Brunch Experience Wait wasn't bad - 10-15m to be seated for a party of 2. We were waited on relatively quickly. After receiving drink / food order, that seemed the end of service for a long time. No top ups on water, no check-ins, letting us know they're working on our food, etc. The food took about 40-45m to come out. My wife had the shorty rib hash bowl. No problem there. She loved it. I got the classic plate with fried chicken & fries, seasonal veggies (peppers) The peppers were great, I'll lead with that. The fried chicken was cold, hard, and just overall did not seem fresh. We were seated at the bar right next to the final prep station, so we got to see all of the food leaving the kitchen. It was amazing! We got to listen to all of the line cooks working every order. The expediter was collecting every table's orders and getting them to the "hands" for delivery. They worked like a well-oiled machine. It was great to get to see the whole menu go right past us. Awesome experience! Can't wait to go back. Our server, Colton, was great. We know him from his prior work at Sea Wolf. Came to eat with my husband and arrived around 12:20. We weren't seated until 12:50, ordered by 1:00, and didn't get our food until 2:00 PM. That's a long wait all around--for food that was just okay. I overheard our waiter telling another staff member that they were half as busy as yesterday, which honestly makes the delays even more frustrating. I can't imagine how long people waited then. Nothing we ordered should've taken that long to prepare. The kitchen needs to move faster or get better training. I live close and really want to like this place more. The food is good but not great. The prices seem high and portions seem small for diner food. The service has been alright but not great - no terrible experiences but what you might expect from an ihop (Waffle House has better service). Very cute place to get breakfast/brunch. We waited about 45 minutes for a party of 5, to be seated on the (St. Patrick's Day) weekend, which is what they told us so pretty spot on. There was a drink station outside for waters, coffee, and I think orange juice which you could order while you waited. There was some outdoor seating but mainly used as a waiting area (it was gloomy outside anyways). The food was pretty good, the breakfast sandwich was recommended to us from other customers as well as the waffles. They have a wide variety of breakfast foods and interesting toppings for waffles which is different from what you usually see. Tried to celebrate my best friend's bday there. The management was very quick with emailing me back! They said I could even hang up her banner in the upstairs area. I arrive and apparently no one from management had told the staff that we were coming. After an hour the staff did end up allowing us to hang up the banner after everyone had cleared out from the area. The staff told me that my birthday friend dessert was free but they were wrong. Went about an hour after getting our food before staff came to check on us. I feel like it would've been such a good place because the waitress was super nice!
