Dim Sum! This second floor dim sum house harkens back to the days of sharing large round tables with strangers (if you are a smaller group), ink stamped ledger of your plates, ladies pushing hot metal carts and very efficient, though less than cordial service. Many dim sum restaurants have transitioned from the hot metal carts and to order dim sum but it's always nice to see the tradition live on. It's all part of the old school experience! The food was great actually which is a big plus. All my favorites like spring rolls, crystal shrimp dumplings, pork shumai, were available and I couldn't say there was anything I wouldn't get again. I'd be back again soon for sure. Seng Seafood isn't a big place so be prepared to wait if you arrive later in the morning.
Came on a 10am on Sunday weekend after new years, the restaurant was perhaps 60% full and by the time we left was completely full. We were sat at a large round table with 2 older aged women who were having a great time sipping on tea and enjoying dim sum slowly. Wonderful to come to dim sum on a weekend without a wait and the food/pricing was on par with other dim sum restaurants as well. Service was prompt and they had carts rolling around with people frequently asking us if we wanted anything else. Would definitely come back if wanting dim sum in the city because it was more spacious than house of joy, less hectic, and more frequent carts.

A decent spot to get dimsum. The seating was pretty quick even though it was so busy there. We did have the share the table with two other parties, but that was okay for the short wait. The dimsum was fresh and came out quickly. We didn't really have to wait a long time for anything. They refilled our tea quickly and I left with a full stomach. The price was reasonable and the service was quick and fast.
Solid spot for Chinese new year! The courses was swell. The duck was nice and crispy and the lobster truly was great. Wonderful broccoli crunch, but the egg tart did not hit. Cheers!
Had to do our annual dim sum feast before the Super Saturday parade. Seng Seafood restaurant is still our best dim sum spot in Chinatown, Manhattan. We got there 15 mins before they were officially opened, but they were super friendly and told us to wait upstairs instead and offered us hot tea, a table while we waited for our party to arrive. The best thing about dim sum is that it has so much to offer for people who are allergic to gluten, seafood, etc. The fact is there's ALWAYS something for everyone, which is the best way to enjoy it. Here's what we ordered. - 2x Shrimp Dumplings - Chicken feet - 2x Steam spare ribs - Beef Balls [lion heads] - 4x roasted pork pastries - Vegetarian Spring Rolls - 2x Cilantro Cheung fun - 2x Crispy vegetarian Cheung fun - 2x Mini sticky rice wrapped with bamboo leaves - 2x mini egg tarts - Chive dumplings - 5x sesame balls with black sesame filling - Custard pineapple buns - 2x roasted pork pineapple buns - Red Cheung fun wrapped with crispy shrimp inside of a fried dough. - 2x coconut pudding - 8x to refill our teapot Party of 8, and the bill came out to be 29.00 per person plus tips. I had heard from a Chinese friend of mine that this was their favorite dim sum place and that the rest of the Cantonese food here was also very good so a group and I went here. As per most of my other reviews, I went to this restaurant several months ago. The food was excellent being higher quality than most of the other Canto spots around here at reasonable prices and I would go back here both to try their dim sum and also to just go back and have more of their Cantonese options. The staff was the expected for Canto spots and the room was originally a bit loud as there was a wedding in their other hall (which is always a good sign for these spots) but eventually the other side quieted down and it wasn't super loud in there even though it was pretty crowded. First to arrive was probably the best dish of the night which was an excellent version of Prawns With Mayonnaise Sauce. The shrimp were large and hot with a good crisp but not too much batter and was as per usual, a bit sweet from the mayo. There was also broccoli as well as candied walnuts as per always. This is one of the best versions of this dish I've had and I would recommend it heavily. The Fried Flounder was probably the next best. Outside of the main fish, there were several pieces on top which was a nice touch as well as some type of veggie. The fish had a nice light fry which allowed us to taste the delicate fish flavor better. I would also recommend it to share. The Peking Pork Chop was also great with the sauce not being overly sweetened and not being too boney though I would say that it's a bit better at some other spots like Wu's Wonton King where the pork there by comparison has a better crisp and is a bit more tender. The Lamb Chops With Scallions were also pretty solid. The lamb was tender and tasty and lightly seasoned. The dish otherwise came with some bell peppers and onions with the onions being nicely cooked down it's a little bit of a bite. Also pretty good was the Salted Fish And Pork With Eggplant Casserole. The eggplant in there was particularly tasty though there could have been more of the salted fish. Also with said ingredient but a bit more was the Salted Fish & Chicken Fried Rice. The rice had good flavor and good chunks of protein and didn't feel like a throwaway compared to some other Canto spots and was a lot better than the version at Uncle Lou among other popular spots in the area. The other carb dish was the Singapore Mei Fun which they liked. I think I remember there being some pieces of squid in there if I recall correctly so I couldn't try it but others liked the curry powder flavor. The last remaining dish was the Bacon Sauteed With Cauliflower which was fine. I prefer cauliflower with other preserved meat over this dish but you tend to find that more in non-Canto spots. It was fine with a bit of smokiness from the bacon but perhaps a bit too much grease. The food here was tasty and I can see why they've been around since the early 2000s if not the late 90s. Reasonably priced tasty good Cantonese food and a whole lot easier to get into than the next comparable spots; Wu's Wonton or Uncle Lou. Would go back again.
first dim sum meal in a very long time at seng seafood today. we'd been once or twice before and had really liked it (probably a 4 or 5 star review if i rated my other visits in prior years). their prices used to be the same for all dish sizes, and presumably is still the same. our bill came out to $55 before tip for 10 items (which fed 3 adults and 1 child and are definitely not all pictured here ... was too hungry). the bill did include two shrimp cheung fun (rice rolls) which are usually pretty pricey at your typical dim sum establishment. all dishes were delicious, but we were quite disappointed by how limited the selections were today (there seemed to be way more in our previous visits as well as what is listed on their website). not sure if it might have been because we were visiting a little later in the day by dim sum standards (~1:00 pm). there was also virtually no service provided (e.g., water was never refilled) but the cart ladies were really nice in trying to help find the dishes that we wanted. we had made a reservation over the phone, but it didn't seem like they understood once we arrived. thankfully, we didn't need to wait long as we were put at an eight-person table with another party of four. considering the clientele visiting, you know that the dim sum is authentic. certainly can't go wrong here with your basic dim sum selections, though may opt to go earlier next time to see if there are more options or visit another place for more variety.

Food tastes better when enjoyed together. I had the pleasure to be invited by a friend/colleague for Dim Sum on a October Saturday to join his circle of friends becoming a party of nine (9). Seng Seafood Restaurant is located on East Broadway on the 2nd floor and it is ADA accessible via elevator. It is not a large banquet hall, but fairly mid-size. Staff speaks Cantonese which is mellifluous to hear in continuation this vernacular Chinese language. Traditional Dim Sum trolleys circulate the restaurant in moderation, but not frequently with more food offerings. Dim sum food trolley brings back nostalgia of my halcyon and idyllic early childhood of patronizing Dim Sum restaurants with my family. Customer service is accommodating for our large party. Business cards are available for grabs which is now part of my shoebox collection. Seng Seafood was on my Yelp bookmark "places to go" for a long time and now it has been checked off. There is a Japanese beckoning cat, maneki-neko 招き猫 near the cash wrap counter. Restrooms are relatively clean and have Xlerator hand dryer. Brunch was fresh and enjoyed. Our plates were changed during our meal duration. Noise level is boisterously loud as the standard Dim Sum restaurant. Our bill totaled $115.00 which is steep but expected for our party of nine (9). My foodie synopsis: Pu-erh tea 普洱茶 (pou2 nei2 caa4) - fermented black tea of Earthy, aged complex to help with digestion which is the default choice of tea in my family at every Dim Sum brunch gathering since childhood. Two tea pots were presented and I had a very hard time lifting as both my arms were sore for three days from attaining several vaccinations injected into the muscle. Shrimp dumpling 蝦 餃 (haa1 gaau2)- shrimp, less dumpling wrapping upholds substance. It was solid becoming my Dim Sum addiction. Pork and mushroom dumpling 燒 賣 (siu1 maai6*2) - large Shumai were well prepared Spare ribs with basil sauce 欖 汁 排 骨 (laam5*2 zap1 paai4 gwat1) - with black bean it was not swimming in oil and there were minimal fat. The meat easily falls out of the bone. Fried dough rice noodle rolls 炸兩 (zaa3 loeng2) - it was chewy but not doused in soy sauce. Spring rolls 春卷 (ceon1 gyun2) are classic, cylindrical-shaped thin wheat-flour wrapper and deep-fried until golden and crispy. It was crunchy, good and much need condiment of soy sauce or hot chilli sauce. I have a predilection for soy sauce, Chinese black vinegar, last alternate oyster sauce as condiments for Chinese food. Stir-fried noodles with shredded chicken 雞絲炒麵 (gai1 si1 caau2 min6) - this entree was ordered and normally not found in a trolley cart. It was a good choice and quickly engulfed to be gone within mere minutes. It was somewhat swimming in water and sauce. Overall, it was a delight. Coconut pudding 椰汁糕 (je4 zap1 gou1) - it was enjoyable Egg custard tart 蛋撻 (daan6 taat1) - it was engulfed within mere minutes that I specifically requested two (2) additional orders for our large party from a Dim Sum trolley lady who attempted to coerce me by selling other unwanted pastries. BLUF: Popular, inexpensive, but slightly below-average dim-sum. We visited Seng Seafood Restaurant 金泰海鮮酒家 on a recent weekday morning for dim-sum. The restaurant was lively, loud (informally measured in the high 70's to low 80's in decibels), and crowded full with locals. We were lucky to be seated quickly, as subsequent visitors had to wait. We only ordered four dishes; we stopped because the food leaned towards below average. The beef short ribs were thick and chewy -- under-marinated and overcooked. The siu mai was mushy and had chunks of fat. The beef rice noodle roll was OK but the rice noodle was somewhat coarser than the competition. The prices here are decent (hence the crowd); $4.50 for Small, Medium, and Large dim-sum plates. This place doesn't offer chili oil during dim-sum service, but provides a more budget chili sauce upon request. Service was prompt and efficient, even considering the crowd. The men's restroom was adequately maintained, but my companion said that the women's restroom was in an unacceptable condition. read more

The booking doesn't mean much to this restaurant. Booked a table a week in advance, when arrived, was told the second floor was taken for party, and sent us down to the basement. After all that, the service and food were excellent. read more
I dont know why this place has so little reviews because its freaking delicious! One of the best prices in Chinatown and every dish is absolutely amazing. I dont need to go into detail why, I think everyone just needs to try it. This restaurant is always super busy as well so don't be fooled. Do yourself a favor and come here, you will not be disappointed. read more

Wow, what a surprisingly good dim sum spot hidden... up one flight of stairs in what we call the "Fukenese Town" of Chinatown. Along East Broadway... this spot churns out some delicious good eats! Old school style dim sums like "fried taro nest with shrimp stuffing!" - it' was my mom's favorite as well as mine!! solid churn funs, har-gwol, chicken feet, beef tripes, mini egg tarts, salty egg-yolk buns, and friend noodles. Don't get their "century egg pastry" - it's a rip-off... skip that. But everything else was great. Pricing is decent, not overly expensive like Jing Fung. We were seated quickly, for a table of 12 and we didn't feel cramped. The bathroom is "go at your own risk" but doable. The lovely cart ladies will try their best to get you the desired dim sums, if you missed it by a turn! This is a very authentic dim sum experience, where you're sat in a big dining room with people pushing carts full of different dim sum around. You order as they come by, and they'll write it down on your order sheet. It's not really clear how much everything is, it ended up being pretty affordable and we were stuffed at the end. Some of my favorites were the rice noodles with the fried dough stick and the pig buns, which were filled with a custard paste inside. If you're not familiar with mandarin/canto, or go with friends that are, you might have a little trouble. It was pretty busy when we arrived, and we had to actively flag down the person running the queue. When he realized we mainly spoke English, he tried to get us to go to their basement location. We tried, but it was very quiet and looked more like a space that you'll rent out for big groups instead of just some casual dining, so we went back upstairs. After trying to convince him to add us to the list, we finally got a table. A fair warning, I think they'll add others to your table if you're a smaller group. Overall, it was a good experience and would come here for an authentic dim sum fix! read more
If you're looking for a more authentic dim sum place with community/family vibes, Seng Seafood is the place to go! Food is pretty solid and most folks are older peeps with their families. You might have to share tables but honestly that's a part of the experience!! My party of 4 tried a lot of things but highlights were: - ha gaur - jumbo juicy shrimp was very flavorful! - taro ball - one of my fav and not a lot of places still offer it anymore! loved the savory taro paste with meat filling and fried to peak crispiness! - shrimp rice rolls - again they do their shrimp well! juicy shrimp with nice thin rice rolls drenched in a sweet soy sauce - congee - surprisingly yummy! wasn't too watery but also wasn't too rice heavy. Had a nice balance of ingredients with the pork and century egg but also adequate seasoning. - chicken feet - very traditional sauce and flavors but could have been softer - jin dui was alright cause the dough to filling ratio was a bit high but overall still nice and chewy. Honestly had a great time here! Dim sum ladies can be a little pushy but they are just trying to do their job. Food comes out quick and service is fast. Prices were very affordable compared to others so I'm glad I found this place! read more

Nice local spot if you like to have the traditional dim sum experience. Yes, I am talking about the setting where the women pushing the carts full of variety of delicious,mouth watering dim sum. The place little small, usually packed with mostly the locals , I didn't see many tourist of out of towner, * hinted you are not paying the overpriced catering tourists and avoid the over hyped long waiting line**** extra point*. Just 1 little complaints, be careful and check your flatware and chopsticks, I found stains !! . I would inspected them and clean them myself before use. In my case, I asked for forks to replace the chopsticks in my visit. Overall, worth visiting and will go back again read more

Good meal at a great price, but disorganized. Detailed breakdown below: **Service, 4/5** They do NOT take reservations, even though there's a reservation function on Yelp. We made a "reservation" but then waited about a half hour for a table. Note you may also need to share a table with another party. **Price & portion, 5/5** We filled up a party of 4 for just $45, and got a huge variety of plates! Each dish is about $4. **Presentation of the food, 5/5** Classic dim sum -- can't go wrong. **Taste of the food, 4/5** Overall very solid but nothing blew me away. - Shu Mai, 4/5: Juicy, tender pork and shrimp, but could have had a little more flavor. - Har gow, 4/5: Really good! But I've had better wrapper / dough. - Sticky rice in banana leaf, 5/5: Delicious and surprisingly still good the next day without being refrigerated. - Cheung fun w shrimp, 4/5: A classic, but didn't blow me away. - Turnip cake, 4/5: Pretty good but not the best I've had. - Crispy mochi w pork, 3/5: Nice and crispy but the mochi layer was extremely thick and the pork inside could have been seasoned more. - Eggplant, 5/5: Fantastic sauce and well cooked. **Other notes** The restaurant is pretty cramped and can get super hectic during peak hours. Came here with a group of 6, and the food was delicious for a great price! NYC is definitely a pricier place to eat, but we left feeling pretty full and only paid $13 per person after tax and tip. It was pretty crowded on a Saturday morning. The restaurant was pretty hectic, and it's one of those classic dim sum places where you get food from the carts going around. The people pushing the carts around are very adamant about convincing you to get the food on their cart, so it might be helpful to have an idea of what you want to eat before you sit down. We didn't really do that and ended up just getting whatever the people tried to give us lol, but honestly all the food was pretty good so it turned out fine. Also, we had to split the table with two random people since there weren't enough seats, which was slightly annoying. read more
