I don't see what all the fuss is about. This store had rude salespeople, barely any good merchandise, and a tiny food court. I wanted a pair of boots so bad and found the perfect pair. I looked for someone to wait on me for 20 minutes! I got stared at, but that was the extent of it. When I asked someone in another shoe area if they could help, the answer was plain no. I put the boot back and ordered it online from Harrods. It wasn't worth it! After this experience, I will never go back nor recommend Selfridges. read more

Well !!! It's an iconic place and a shoppers ( very rich shopper ) paradise but !!!!!! I HATED that they don't give you the tax Rufina stamp on the spot. You have to trek 5 floors and wait in line at customer service in order for them to give you your stamp ( keep in mind that you need to do it again at the airport ) I understand that there are lots of tourists that just go there to see the items but the people that work there should be friendlier. Wow !!!!! What not to love about this place !!!! I spent 6 hours in this department store - they have everything a girl will ever need ! From nail salon to eye brown bar ( no need to say that I was in heaven ) they have their own version of dry bar as well Same concept that we have in the USA- mani and pedi is located in the next booth and eye brown next to it as well . Selfridges food halls didn't impress me. The food halls from say japanese department store Takashimaya (Nagoya) or Korean department store Shinsegae (seoul) take the food hall experience to an entirely different level. Em... sometimes 2 store levels actually. Ok so those experiences aside I tried to be fair. After all it's the differences that make our travels interesting. I tried to like them. I would say Selfridges food hall is like a nice Waitrose with less common goods but a few of the odd things like quail eggs and a little less service. Bargain hunters: If you are after Step2wo shoes, make sure to look at their website first. I was able to get the pair I wanted plus a delivery charge for a decent amount less than they would have cost if I bought them at Selfridges. Sure, there's a slight delay in gratification but it's likely to be just a day or so from when you order. WAAAY better than Harrods. I wandered around this store like the gawking tourist that I am. It wasn't overly crowded, the selections were strong and the store is well laid out. Snob sales person at the Burberry section informed us that all Burberry purses were made in Italy. This hasn't been true since 2008, maybe earlier. I thought okay, maybe it's a London thing. I didn't ask him to check the label since he seemed so offended and had a Brit Check patterned stick up his ass. It is shocking to me that a store as large as Selfridges has such horrendous customer service. In 20 years of ordering online this is the first time I have had a missing item, and they refuse to refund. Please read their reviews before ordering. I never thought it would happen to me, but here we are and I am out $250. Purchased 3 items before Christmas, they were delayed in the US due to bad weather and when they arrived, one of the items was missing. I promptly contacted Selfridges thinking it was probably an oversight on their part because of the Christmas rush. Wrong! Selfridges customer service has done nothing but give me excuses and tell me that the items were scanned and put in my package and that they fulfilled their contract. They will not be issuing a refund?? What? I was speechless, and have spent the better part of 3 weeks arguing back and forth with them, only to have them stop responding. Online chat told me they were starting the refund process and that I would get a confirmation email. Nothing. They told me a manager would ring me. Nothing. I am shocked beyond belief that a store of this size would dismiss a customer like this. I am bitterly disappointed since I had purchased many times with no issues. I was planning on making many more purchases in the future, but that's over. IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT ORDERING FROM THEM - THINK AGAIN. Their customer service is abysmal and they now have my £153 and my item. ***I see on other review sites that they have done this to other customer and the emails excuses are identical. Word for word, "we reviewed the CCTV footage and your item was placed in the package". After reading reviews and seeing what other have posted, I now realise they are copying and pasting a stock email and I do not believe they investigated anything. Each department is better the the next, the wine department was very cool and if I had more time I would have purchased the sampling card and had a few glasses of wine. I was here when Katy Perry debut her new fragrance Purr on 11.19. Several ladies were donned in purple coloured T. I avoided them at all cost and I checked out the busy MAC counter. MAC just recently launched a Tartan Tale, so everyone here had a customer. They carried brands like Superdry and Reiss - I am not a fan of neither. Superdry is lame...adding Japanese characters doesn't make it Japanese chic. They are just trying to make consumers believe they are a Japanese brand. They carried Maje as well here, but there wasn't anything here that I couldn't really get back in the States. I left this place very disappointed! read more

Touristy? Maybe. But the store is truly beautiful, elegant ground floor lobby with traditional style decors, nice lighting, very nice escalators, a combination of modern convenience and classic beauty. The shoe salon is the best I've seen among all department stores. Most brands are predictable but the selection and the display are very tasteful. I was pleasantly surprised that they had Charlotte Olympia. Really nice food hall, lots of produce to take home to and lots of places to sit down for a quick bite. The exterior is magnificent as well (especially at night with the lighting). The shop scene at Oxford/Bond street will not be complete without Selfridges. read more

Selfridges is my favourite department store. The shop sells the best of contemporary designers such as Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, Chloe, Marc Jacobs, Agent Provocateur, PPQ, Paul Smith, etc. Now, I can't afford any of those brands but I still enjoy browsing the aisles and dreaming of the clothes. They also sell some more accessible brands such as Topshop, Karen Millen, Warehouse, Diesel and more. My favourite spot is probably the bag section, where I can drool over the gorgeous black patent Chanel bags, the brown Mulberry satchels, and whatever Chloe is doing best at that time. They also hold a great selection of Sunglasses and an expert make-up section. I guess what I like best about this department store is that I do not feel that it is as snooty as its competitors such as Harvey Nichols and Harrods. Selfridges welcomes all, and has a bit for everyone. It also happens to arguably hold the best window displays in London. Go and check out the ironic Santas displayed in the windows at the moment, which are great fun to look at. read more

Shop alongside the Russian oligarch billionaires for £2000 caviar. Clothes, art, jewellery, perfumes, makeup and what not. I thought there would be more reasonably priced dining options, but no. The most terrible customer service I've ever experienced. My order has been stuck in customs for over a week. I live in San Francisco and I've tried to reach them via email numerous times and to no avail I finally had to call them last night in London and explain what's been going on. I own one pair of shoes and no shirts, I spend most of my waking hours dressed in jeans and a t-shirt and hoodie. I don't do shopping and I certainly don't do Selfridges. Why then, I here you ask, am I bothering to review this place? Well quite frankly I'm a little bored and I think after the amount of times I've waited outside whilst friends shopped around I'm entitled to a bit of a gripe. Selfridges is located on Oxford Street and is distinguishable from most other shops by its size, both of actual space and of prices. Upon entry you are immediately met by a wall of stupidly expensive handbags by top name designers. You can even grab a champagne in here if all that spending makes you tired and in need of a pick me up. Elsewhere in the store you can find homeware, electronics, music and of course clothes. The most bizzarre item I came across was an eight foot tall model of the predator, constructed out of scrap metal. With a price-tag of £10,000, who could resist? read more

Ever since hearing about travels to London and watching shows like Mr. Bean, I've thought about how much I would like to visit Harrod's department store. Branding worked miracles here as I saw people with bright yellow shopping bags with "selfridges" written on it. It was so eye catching and I thought I'd try to visit this department store as well. We loved it so much we went twice during our two day trip in London. I loved the overall setup and the variety of stores. I found it to be very fun to peruse the various floors. What made it extra nice was the extensive food court upstairs/top floor where you can find pizza, grill, pan Asian, Mediterranean just to name a few. There is also a EL&N bakery and cafe. I loved the PanAsian! I got the char kway teow which is sort of like pad see ew. Flat noodles in a savory sauce. We also found FAO Schwartz, high end brands like Louis Vuitton and a wonderful gourmet section with teas, cakes, fresh baked goods, candy, chocolate, etc! There is also a whole floor dedicated to watches and Jewelry, which we sort of took a gander at some luxury watches. This place is so much better than Harrods because you can actually shop here. You're not pushing your way through crowds of tourists and the people are really helpful. In fact, the customer service here is rather unusual in that they actually pay attention and check up on you regardless of what you're wearing. Sure, it doesn't have the same wow-factor that Harrods has but at least you get to do what you need to do and their building is nice in its own way. read more

This fabulous department store opened in 1909 and has remained a landmark in London for shoppers around the world. Selfridges has succeeded in creating a real shopping theatre, mixing great merchandise with exhibitions, events and art. Fashion is very good, with both obvious designers and more obscure labels. The personal shopping service is excellent. My favourite sections include shoes, accessories, beauty and stationery (including a small Smythsons). The Balcony Wine Bar is a great place to meet friends, but if you have already spent all your money, there is always Starbucks at the back of the stationery department. Unequivocally Selfridges is one of the world's iconic buildings. I had no previous idea about how inspiring its history is, other than what my mind could conjure up from adolescence when my father spoke about an armchair, which he bought there some fifteen years earlier. I did a quick background search on Selfridges and although I've always recognised, and associated the name to be family orientated - and probably of English origin - it was remarkable to learn that Harry. G. Selfridges was born in Wisconsin, USA in 1858. What's also remarkable was the amount of wealth he'd acquired during his lifetime. According to accounts he retired in 1906 at the age of 48 after making a grand investment and selling a department store he purchased for wait for it. Yes, an amazing $5,000,000. Now, that I've managed to digest those figures relating to that time period, I think it's safe to say without repulsing mankind - that 2/3 (or more) of today's world population won't have the opportunity to get their paws on that kind of bread not to mention mankind in the year 1906. After moving to London and on second thoughts - Selfridges decided he's too young to retire, and on the 15th of March 1909 opens his £400,000 store in Oxford Street catapulting his store and Oxford street onto the maps of all maps the world stage of fashion. The store, as we know it, has experienced a few change of hands and is, today owned by a Mr & Mrs Galen Weston. I'm in awe of this colossal building and its history. And there's little wonder how it's managed to survive turbulent times so elegantly since its inception almost a century ago. Some of my best purchases from the store have been a Louis Vuitton monogram belt; a Jean Paul Gaultier fitted T- shirt, and a one off pair of Salvortore Faragamo leather shoes; including a range of exotic smelling perfumes. To date Selfridges continue to deliver cutting edge fashion, home ware, perfumery, food and above all; majestic window displays. read more

If you've never seen drama, Selfridges, it's just as addictive as Downton Abbey. Selfridges has a long line of history and I was happy that I got to visit it on my most recent trip to London. They literally have everything you can imagine, even a section for Korean beauty make up...like wow...even US stores don't have a section for Korean beauty make up. It's not hard to find as it's on one of the busiest streets in London, Oxford Street, not too far from Bond Station, could be a closer tube stop. I was a fan of the TV show Selfridges so it was a must for me to stop by this historic site. The cosmetic department is vast, stocking pretty much everything you need - very handy when on a make-up mission. Wonderful experience! I came here on vacation after watching the documentary about the founder, while planning for sites to visit. Definitely worth it! What a fun store. We got there when it first opened on a Sunday and within an hour it was pretty full. I got quite a few Sweaty Betty finds in their activewear section. It's currently Pandemic 2020 with a virus lurking around and I felt safe enough shopping here. I'm not a big weekend shopper or crowd person, so coming early was a good call for me! read more
