When tariffs kicked in, I made it my mission to buy the advent calendar from here in person. Did it take up 2/3s of my check in luggage? Yes. Saved on shipping and taxes. No regrets. So if you happen to find something made in the UK, buy it in person! My Mason Pearson brush was almost $100 less here. Same with the DS Durga fragrance sampler I treated myself to. On top of all that, the customer service is lovely. They leave you alone but are also genuinely helpful when you need it! Speaking of the fragrances, when my flight left before my click and collect was ready, they price matched the item I had bought online for Black Friday and let me buy in person since it was in stock. What a fun stop while shopping around central London! The front doors are lined with flowers for sale. I absolutely love browsing their incredible selection of fabrics. I treated myself to a silk scarf with a stunning yellow/pink design this trip! Liberty London is a famous department store on the corner of Regent Street leading to Carnaby, while it might not be as well-known as Harrods and Selfridges, it was certainly as busy, visiting in the run-up to Christmas. The store and its Tudor-style building have a long history dating back to when Liberty was founded in 1875, with the store being built in 1924. The store is housed in a very old building - so the shopping experience at a busy time didn't feel too comfortable - the lifts were slow and were such a tight squeeze to the point I decided just to take the stairs from the Ground to the Fourth floor, there were also large queues for the toilets, and it felt like a never-ending queue around the store, just to walk around. They had a selection of high-end brands, and the building was just really pretty, I ended up becoming aware of Liberty through their collab with Nespresso, where I purchased one of their Aeroccinos and was interested in visiting the store, which made the magic happen behind those iconic floral designs. I did notice a lack of staff around the store to seek assistance, which would have been nice to see with Liberty being a more luxury department store and a clearer store guide to make it easier to know where you're heading would also be useful. 3* - The store certainly has a legacy dating back over 100 years and some nice products, in a beautiful building, but the overall shopping experience could certainly be improved as the store doesn't seem to be able to handle large crowds, and in such a central location within London, it was a let-down to a degree. read more

Liberty is iconic. It's historical. I Went to LCF (right down the street and one of the best fashion schools in the world) and on our orientation we were sent here to earn about the history of the place. That should tell you something about its importance. Its a luxury department store but buts less assuming and pretentious than other options of that category in London. The spa is excellant though I haven't been in years. I love the Christmas shop. A sure place to visit in the London area! Just the historic building alone is enough to go. It was originally built on the base of large ships, you can still see some of the masts columns today, it really is remarkable. But by shopping means, it's definitely on the high end side, with some smaller, more affordable stores barely sprinkled in. Still a great historic area to visit, especially at the top floor: since it's decked out in Christmas items and candies galore! The staircases are rickety and go up to four floors, and there's alternatively a elevator if you cannot take the stairs. It's close to Soho, Chinatown, Caraby St, and a great 1940s bar called Cahoots! read more

So I've been wanting to go to Liberty - a luxury department store located in London's Carnaby district. They offer designer everything and offer impeccable service. Finally got the chance to stop by, sans my Lotus. Liberty was founded in 1875 selling ornaments, fabric, and objets d'art. The company quickly rose in the fashion world and soon was the place to be for young upcoming artists and designers to get creative. Liberty became a big part of the London scene! On my visit I enjoyed browsing the shelves and fixtures for eclectic pieces. Liberty reminds me of a huge Boutique rather than a Department Store. However, I was most fascinated with the odd architecture. The Liberty building features a Tudor revival main entrance, but it didn't come about until 1924. The recycled timber from the antique ships Hindustan and Impregnable was used as it's foundation and walls. Even the weathervane on the rooftop bears a model of the Mayflower, the ship that brought the Pilgrims to America! In the end, I recommend a visit to Liberty. To shop for one of a kind designer pieces or just to browse like I did. Take note of the Shields in the interior that represents Shields for William Shakespeare, the six wives of Henry VIII, to other historical Brits! Have a look! I happened to find a gorgeous bag on super sale (like 70% off normal retail!) and couldn't resist placing an order. See my photo - it's the perfect small crossbody in a delicate pink version of their iconic Iphis print. Know that if you are in the US, you're still paying the VAT (online orders aren't exempt like they are elsewhere) but shipping is free. Liberty doesn't fool around with shipping - from the time I placed my order to the time it was in my hands was maybe 4-5 days? Pretty impressive honestly! Not impressive? The packaging. My bag was shoved into a box with no dust bag or box to protect it from water or damage. The outside of the box was all sticky and gross but fortunately it wasn't damaged. Latest visit to London took me to Liberty. I love Liberty...and who doesn't? As Patrick Henry once said, "...give me Liberty, or give me death!" During my visit, I said, "Give me a Monica Vinader bracelet to take home to my wife, or give me a Liberty signature floral Union Jack tea towel or gimme BOTH, but not death -- please!" Liberty is a cute little department store which seems to have taken over an older house with original flooring that seems to still creak. Kind of reminded me of visiting a museum! Their apparel and products are well curated and cute, but too posh and expensive for my taste. My favorite part was the stationary section on the 1st floor because I was looking for gifts - lots of fun, chic, cute pens, accessories and other fun items! I love the prints when they're not too small. I think the new floppy hats and note cubes are overpriced. I recommend the picture frames and storage bins from the Target collection. The former are being sold for 3-4x the original American price online because they're sold out. I'll be waiting for a journal or notecard set. I'm a fan of their dessert tray, piggy banks, and toss pillows for Target. The children's dresses are darling but I have no excuse to buy any. Their fabric is also sold at the V&A shop now. They have great patterned plant pots and printed gardening gloves. They're selling shopper bags, totes, and wellies in a few days. My boyfriend said the galoshes looked too childish on my feet though. read more

I've passed by Liberty several times on previous trips to London and finally on my last trip, I decided to stop in and am so glad I did. This store has a really unique set up. It felt like it was going to be a smaller store, but it kept going from room to room and each room was unique and offered interesting product. I didn't browse the whole store as I'm not keen on floors of women clothing so I stuck to the main level and then headed down to the men's section. Liberty is a bit on the pricy side when it comes to clothes (especially considering I still have the exchange rate into US dollars) so I don't know how likely it would be for me to come each trip and purchase clothes, but they certainly did have enough I would buy if money wasn't a consideration. The staff were consistent in asking me if I needed help which I appreciated even though I didn't need any. Going back upstairs, I walked the whole main level and ended in a candy shop which had all sorts of really tempting choices. I decided to get a box of chocolates for my co-workers which I didn't notice until I was packing it up in my luggage that the chocolates had expired already :( One star knocked off for that. This shop is off of Oxford Circus and close to Carnaby which has all sorts of great restaurants, pubs, and other stores. I think the building it is in must be fairly old. The main level had wood floors that seemed at least 100 years old if not older. Certainly a great spot for shopping and dinner. read more

My life is now defined in two phases.... Pre Liberty London and post Liberty London. My life will never be the same. I saw lots of great things in London, but I think this store was my favorite part of the entire trip. Housed in a stately, historic Tudor, the building alone is something to swoon over. There are many original features including molding, staircases, fireplaces and a variety of little nooks. Instead of trying to strip the building down and start fresh, Liberty makes use of each of the unique features in order to enhance the design. As someone from the US, I would say this is comparable to Anthropologie, but better, with a larger selection and slightly more expensive. Some highlights were the stationary section, the gorgeous furniture and home goods, and the fabrics. Since I was visiting at Christmastime, I also got the joy of checking out all their holiday specialities. I wish this store could be in the US, but part of its draw is that you can only go when you're in London, so I will have to survive without it for now. If you are anywhere nearby, please go! The surrounding streets are a great shopping pedestrian area as well, so take it all in. read more

Now this place is the type of place I could have spent an entire afternoon wandering around. Looking back on our visit to London I wish I had the opportunity to do just that. I was able to spend a few minutes exploring the home decor floor, which was amazing and full of so many unique pieces. Area rugs, light fixtures, frames, pretty little containers. But there's also entire floors dedicated to women's clothing, menswear, and accessories. Anddd specialized sections like Avant Garde. The design of the store is beauuuutiful. I found some very charming and reasonably priced stationary and cards to bring back to the USA. It was a bit difficult to shop for clothing and accessories simply because the store was SO crowded. I've been a Liberty of London fan ever since Target had the brand for a limited time. I love the colorful fabrics and I had originally thought that's all they sold. However, they are truly a large department store with exclusive brands and designs. Similar to Harrods, they sell all types of apparel and clothing and household items with 4 floors of unique items to buy. I went directly to the home goods section and was in fabric heaven to see all the beautiful colorful fabrics! Wow... they have such a large variety, mind you they don't come cheap for about 1 meter of fabric it can run you around £25. They also sell a variety of fat quarters in different patterns, as well as, sewing kits and needlepoint. The home goods section also has a lot of bone china mugs and small appliances. I also ventured out to the chocolate shop and the stationery shop, both had a lot of variety. The building is also a true architectural beauty as you can't really miss it in the middle of the Piccadilly Circus area, it's truly beautiful. read more

This place is soo, posh. That is the word, right? Posh? Anyway, it's fancy. So much much so that, while not quite being a Harrods, they have an enormous selection of just about anything you can think of, from perfumes to food, carpets to furniture. The fashion is a bit... exclusive. And while I wouldn't wear any of it, the prices are such that there must be something magical about the styles they sell from some top-notch designers. It really comes alive during the Holidays and I suggest bringing some extra cash to buy yourself or a loved one a little something special. Everything is expensive, but it's also about the experience of browsing and shopping in such a unique and slightly-pretentious store. So, take the lift to the top floor and make your way through yet another shopper's paradise/ nightmare in London. read more

Her Ladyship has been going to Liberty, since she was five or six years old. Right before Christmas, her mother would take her to see Uncle Holly at Selfridges, because Father Christmas (Santa to Yanks,) was much too busy making presents, preparing for Happy Christmas Day. She'd sit on Uncle Holly's lap, state what she required for Christmas, someone behind him would write it down, and give it to her mother. Then they would be off to Liberty. We were there again 9/16, and as always, they had out their Christmas "goodies." This was my first visit, I probably would not have visited, but I was lucky enough to see the documentary, produced, concerning the store's, very interesting history. Her Ladyship also, worked at Selfridges, as a young girl during the holiday season, so she gave me quite a bit of history concerning the whole area. Just going through the front door of Liberty is like walking into a different type of retail shopping. I'm like most guys, shopping is something we do when forced. Knowing, some of the wealthiest of the wealthy, travel from all over the world to shop here, I did not feel the stores staff was looking down their nose at me. We went all over the store, I had to see their selection of hats!! Found a wonderful top hat, there was a selection between 500 and 900 pounds, I "cheaped out." finding one for 750, because I also had my eye on a bowlers for 200, might as well get both while I'm here. Then Her Ladyship (aka., she who MUST BE obeyed, aka., guardian of the coin of the realm) appeared from nowhere. Guess what, no hats for me. She had a couple of purchases, and then we were out the door, she would take me to some place called M&S, if I wanted to look at hats . . . BTW - do spend a few minutes checking out the outside window display, as they spend weeks, days and hours planning and working on the display. read more

There are a few words commonly used in the UK that don't have the same popular usage in America. Brilliant is one such word. Another is lovely. An example of the British use these words might be in a sentence like his: Liberty London is an absolutely lovely store and has equally lovely employees including Emeline Fisher who provided me with brilliant service the late afternoon of 1 October, 2014. This was my second time visiting Liberty. The previous visit was a year earlier when my wife made a pilgrimage to the store while we were on holiday (another word!) in London. On that trip, my wife had one purchase in mind--fabric from Liberty's luxurious bolts of limited run, cotton printed fabrics, aka dress fabrics. The few meters of fabric she purchased on that day are still waiting to be used. They are so exquisite and expensive that my wife is literally afraid to cut into them. But, that didn't stop her from dispatching me to Liberty when I returned to London for business. I was, of course, happy to do it. Happy to score some husband points. And, I figured it would be easy. Get to the dress fabrics department, Facetime with my wife and just follow her instructions. When I entered Liberty, I immediately noticed a gorgeous scarf that I thought would make a great gift to take pack. Checking the price, I was reminded immediately that Liberty caters to the affluent of London. It was priced at £195, which is about $325. Taking the lift to the third floor, I rang my wife (like how I did that?) and confessed that I didn't have a clue what to do next. No problem she explained. Just find a salesperson and tell her that you are looking for the limited run cotton prints. As luck would have it, Emeline was right there and as I repeated my wife's instructions aloud she smile and nodded her head in a knowing manner. The bolts were on a wall close to where I was and as Emeline started talking me through all the different options, I could hear my wife in my other ear saying, "That's right, that's right." Although Liberty has wifi available to customers, Emeline and I weren't able to get it to work. Instead I took multiple photos and texted them around the world to Seattle. As she received the images my wife was giving me feedback as to which fabrics she wanted. The entire time Emeline stayed close by, clearly aware that she had a helpless husband in her department who was going to need lots of hand holding. Ultimately my wife picked out two fabrics and tasked me with finding a third. As if I'm responsible enough for that! I was determined to try all the quintessential London experiences, so of course I went for afternoon tea! It's 18.95 for one person or 34.95 for two. You get a selection of finger sandwiches, afternoon tea pastries and treats, plain and fruit scones, homemade strawberry jam, cornish clotted cream and freshly brewed tea or coffee. Be sure to ask what sandwiches they're offering because they can accommodate your dietary restrictions. The sandwiches and scones were my favorite part. The pastries and treats were the hardest to share but I wasn't feeling much for sweets anyhow. Located on the second floor of the fancy and expensive Liberty London. They do not accept reservations so come early. I loved the cute salt and pepper shakers. Check them out...a different set on each table! read more

There is no place more magical in London at Christmas than Liberty London. I just love it. It originally opened in London in 1875 and is now a london institution/major tourist trap. Yes it's busy, yes you can easily get lost in it but who the hell cares?! Their Christmas shop and the decorations that fill the 4 floors are just stunning and you truly get a rush of the Christmas spirit when you enter the building. I could spend hours and A LOT of money in their Christmas shop if I allowed myself to but I just stick to one new beautiful bauble each year. Not a big Christmas fan? It doesn't matter! The 4 floors are filled with everything you could possibly want and need: clothes, jewellery, chocolate, cutlery, rugs (go to the rug sections it's awesome), hats, paintings - just everything and so much more! Most of the clothing isn't available above a size 12. Which sucks if you're a curvy gal. BUT the store is just gorgeous. It was the first big store I ever visited as a tourist in London and when I later moved here, it became a firm favorite. FABULOUS haberdashery section featuring their world-famous fabrics as well as yarns and notions. The store is constantly being shuffled around internally, so sometimes it's hard to find things. But the place is always provided with good signage. The new children's section (Little Liberty) is marvelous. Stopped by Cafe Liberty for tea and scones yesterday, and were pleasantly surprised by the service, ambiance, and scones. My thoughts: - This cafe is small but beautiful. Loved the scone / dessert / plant display at the entrance. - Service is very friendly and relatively quick, especially considering how busy the cafe is. - Tea and scones are good. Mini-me had a hot chocolate and liked it as well. - Location is great. - Prices are a bit high considering that The Wolseley is comparable, but not too bad. I'm a huge fan of Liberty, but the prices are jaw-dropping. Liberty has an entire team that designs patterns used on everything from fabrics to wrapping paper. Being a graphic design nerd I worship at the Liberty altar. I stopped in last weekend and the prices were even more astounding than I remembered. I fancied getting a Liberty scarf, but didn't fancy the £300 price tag! Now this store has a Liberty for Target room, which has very reasonably priced offerings from bags to dresses to housewares. I didn't grab anything though, since I can get these goods in the States. The top floor has housewares and a textiles room, full of reams of fabrics, where I snuck a pic before I was chastised by a staff member ("no pictures inside the store, sorry"). I also hemmed and hawed over the pillows, which were pretty well-priced but I couldn't devise how to fit them into my suitcase! In the bath area Liberty sells Korres, Kiehls, Tocca, etc. and other high-end brands, but I can get them cheaper elsewhere. This is a great department to pick up affordable items like one-of-a-kind washbags, make-up bags, etc. Floors 3 and 4 have women's wear, delicious dresses falling in price ranges of close to £800. Liberty of London is delightful and has so much personality. It's just a store full of wonders, really. It's so beautifully curated. My only slight critique is you will happen upon the occasional item that makes you go, "£160 for a coffee mug? I understand it's handmade, but..." That being said, do I want the coffee mug in question? Absolutely! Also, I do genuinely say this as someone who thinks you get what you pay for, so I'm not one to scoff at paying for something quality and/or unique. I say this more as something to be mindful of. Overall, whoever their buyers are deserve so much admiration. One PSA for anyone who has fragrance issues: do not enter right off of Carnaby Street! You are hit with fragrance. We came here with a tour. And this place is a winner. Liberty is a cute little department store that actually used to be a war ship. You got it ....in the London military and now it sits on a street in Picadilly Square.. So it is very long and has several floors. The clothes and products are super cute but be prepared to get out your wallet. I bought a wonderfully fun hat for my man there. And when I brought it home.... he just loved it. But let me tell you the Liberty secret...... The Tea and scones. They are fabulous. Amazing and wonderful. The scones are made fresh and served with everything else fresh. Built from the timbers of an old ship... this place has such a unique and magical luster - it's been an institution from its very inception (did you hear it referenced by the red headed girl in the movie "Atonement"?). Founded by a retail worker of meager means with an affinity for Chinese goods long before they came en vogue; he took a loan from his father-in-law to open a small shop of Asian imports - within six months the store was a runaway smash and they started looking for a place to expand. Especially known for their fabrics; the patterns were inspired by materials imported from China and India, but Liberty being Liberty... realizing the quality was lacking, began producing their own ornate Asian-inspired prints with superior textiles. Liberty is an incredibly well thought out and laid out department store. In a city over saturated with identikit stores, Liberty has carved out a niche for itself. It is exclusive, but does not exclude. It is not lofty, nor look down at you for simply window shopping - which is one of the most fun things to do. While there are many shops in London which go out of their way to remind you that you cannot afford to shop with them, Liberty has no such pretensions. I love the music that plays when you come in - the same soulful Latin bossa nova was playing lightly in every room. This doesn't sound like a big deal, but it is so different from other department shops, which chop and change the music playing in virtually every different room that you walk into. Whenever I come in I just want to touch and pick up everything that I see. I would say that the highlights of the store are laid out on the ground floor - the accessories; scarfs in all different fabrics, purses, bags, diaries, journals, makeup, perfume and candles.
