if I could leave 0 stars I would. I purchased a sofa bed 10 months ago and a spring broke last week. The sofa has a 12 month warranty (says so on the Living & Home website and I showed them) but Debenhams have told me that because I have had it over 6 months and do not have a copy of the warranty they won't do anything. I pointed out I don't need it as I clearly states on the manufacturer website all their furniture is covered for 12 months, again I was told as I'd had it over 6 months they refused to do anything. I have since been in touch with Living & Home to see if they can help in any way. I will not buy from Debenhams again and I urge people to think hard before making any furniture purchases from them because if anything goes wrong they won't cover the warranty and will make pathetic excuses not to help in any way, shape, or form. I'm now left out of pocket and nothing to sit on. read more

Debenhams on Oxford Street is one of the many large, department stores on London's flagship shopping street which includes the likes of Selfridges, John Lewis, Marks and Spencer and House of Fraser - this store is probably one of the worst which is a real shame considering Debenhams are one of the biggest chains of them all in terms of branch numbers. The store currently has a lift issue which again causes trouble due to the poor construction of the store, you enter where you can see a small number of cosmetics stands before three or four steps, the stair-lift is out of order which means the only way into the store if you require steps which has been ongoing for over a month with no improvement date is a long and drawn-out process of finding down a staff member who can radio through another staff member which takes the customer around the back of the store through the staff entrance where there is a very slow lift. Even though it can stop at all floors, the only way the customer can leave is via the third which means catching another lift to reach one's desired floor. This is due to the staff not allowing customers into other designated staff areas, even if it does make the journey quicker. The lift door wouldn't even open for me on the first two tries as it opened in another area and there was no way (even after pressing the button) to get it to open on both doors on both sides. The fact such issue has been ongoing for such a while is a disgrace, especially for their flagship location in London, the fact there was more staff in and around the break-rooms rather than the shop floor also is absurd. 1* read more

Aaaaargh. I hate the escalators here. Other than that, it's got a good selection of clothes including loads of high street brands, decent homeware department, and a comprehensive beauty department. Speaking of the beauty department, some counters are great (YSL I'm looking at you) and some have billions of staff who seem intent on ignoring potential customers (Lancome I'm looking at you). Some of the floating Debenhams staff are less than helpful as they don't know the products. But, their beauty club card system is good - wait for the promotions and get bonus points which quickly stack up to free stuff. Ridiculously busy on a Saturday, not helped by the hateful hateful escalators. Also the cafe makes a lot of the shop smell. Handy as a cheaper alternative to Selfridges and a handy place to visit lots of high street concessions but not a destination. read more

Debenhems is a massive shopping centre like Myers or djs in Australia. There was still a lot of remaining stock after boxing day. I went straight to the women's footwear section in the basement floor. I actually fell in love with four pairs of leather boots (a rarity as I usually can't find ones that I like or are in my size). Got a pair of Italians leather boots (knee high) that were 50% off. Bargain. Oh and just discovered that ny law all uk stores must charge 5p per bag. read more

I like Debenhams. Though sometimes the exclusive environment of Selfridges is a bit nicer, this is my second favourite department store on Oxford Street. I would not say my second favourite as I would be doing Liberty wrong in saying so. Anyway, I am quite a regular in their beauty department but I also love their underwear section. You can find everything you may need from clothes to electric equipment and even marshmellows. They have a travel centre, a restaurant and so on. In the underwear section you can find everything from big to small, high and not-so-high prices and brands from their own to Triumph and Wonderbra. They also offer free bra-fittings which I can really suggest you to do. Studies have shown that more than 80% of women wear the wrong size bras! Their beauty section is on the ground floor, right when you step into the store. Most major brands can be found here from Benefit (they also have a Brow Bar here) to Bliss (also with a Spa area) and Dior. In my experience it is useful to have either a Beauty Club Card (if you buy beauty regularly) or to have a look out for one of their discount weekends with up to 15% off in beauty. Furthermore, in the back (a little bit hidden) you can find a number of nail bars for example from Nails Inc. The service on all counters is really great, staff is friendly and from the brand rather than the store. Particularly friendly is the staff at Dior and Clinique counters. At Chanel, my experience was not too great. Overall, a few things are missing in my opinion. A real jeans area for women. The men have Levi's why don't we have it too? In the beauty section, Kiehls should be added and the entire floor should possibly be revamped especially considering the new John Lewis beauty hall next door! Debenhams gets five stars from me because I like the way they treat customers and staff. Staff is friendly, prices are good and regular offers make shopping even more fun. Seems like a nice enough store. It's a good size, they offer a foreign exchange service and they've got loads in the way of designer collaborations such as the recently launched EDITION collection which features the likes of Jonathan Saunders and Preen coming up with affordable, yet oh-so-chic designs. In addition, the ever-reliable Principles by Ben di Lisi range can be found here. Also, buying online is a dream. Goods get delivered to me within two working days of my order... and that's on standard shipping, not express! The reason I'm giving this a mere three stars though? Debenhams' flagship store has recently had a big re-vamp. Months of scaffolding and false walls were finally taken down for the Christmas season, but I don't find it terribly changed/improved. I enjoy this department store, but don't find it particularly special. It's just big. It does have a lovely huge selection of cosmetics and such. read more

It must be difficult to be a department store in Oxford Street. There is few others you know and competition is brutal. So I can't help wondering why on earth isn't Debenhams doing anything about it? I mean the fact that their visual looks is just a one big mess. The departments inside, another mess. I just can't visit this store as it makes me dizzy, there is no logic, it is too packed with stuff. I don't know what the labels are as it is a random mix of smaller own know (made in far far away country) brands. Maybe this strategy works better else where in UK but in Oxford Street.. This place is massive There are these weird long escallators to all of the five floors and it just seems to go on and on and on. I can't recommend Debenhams on price as I have found identical things down the road at John Lewis for less but I can recommend Debenhams for sheer size. The ground floor has a massive cosmetics area which goes to a few stairs to the perfume area and the heart of the shop which follows on to the handbag area. They seem to have my brain figured out :-) There are helpers around the store who are there to do nothing but help you find whatever it is you are looking for and they have a huge range of clothing and cookware and china and everything else you could imagine. Just a massive department store and part of what attracts thousands to Oxford St every day. read more

I make no secret about the fact that I don't like department stores. Hate them, never shop in them and generally get quite stressed when I'm in one. HOW do they make them so you can't escape?!? All the escalators are in the wrong place! It also upsets me that you can't get in or out without doing the 'perfume counter assault course'. I don't like being sold to when I'm buying perfume. You can't make me decide I like the smell of something. But then Debenhams were really really lovely, and it threw me a bit. I enjoyed shopping here. Maybe it's because I wasn't in a rush, maybe it's because I spent time in here not being stressed out. But their staff were friendly. Really friendly actually. The girls on the tills trying to be helpful as possible. The D&G perfume girl who was helpful without being pressurising. All of the niceness makes me like them more than I like department stores. Any that's pretty impressive. I don't think I'll ever be the kind of girl to shop in department stores. I certainly wouldn't stop and have a glass of wine in one. But their friendliness last week means that I wouldn't just shop online anymore. Next time I walk by, I might be tempted to pop in. read more

I just don't like it. Selfridges - lovely. Liberty - gorgeous. Debehnams - eek. It's always overcrowded and I hate the layout of the store, for some reason I can never find what I'm looking for in the same way as I can elsewhere. Is it just me? Yes, they have John Rocha and Matthew Williamson etc but I just feel they have rubbish designers and never enough of the concessions I wear. Dare I say it, it's a bit old lady-ish. Even Marks and Spencer has come further in recent years. On doing an in-store collection, only half the order had arrived and staff were fairly unconcerned and unhelful about the whole thing, resulting in me running around the shop floor trying to find the item they were meant to have ordered as 'they didn't have enough staff' Pants. read more

This huge department store has 'guilty pleasure' written all over it. I was initially lured in here by some vouchers, and have to admit I've been popping in from time to time ever since - mostly to pick up reasonably-priced home items (the third floor is a bit of a haven) but also to shop the various high street clothing concessions. There are also several cafes in store, and there's nothing quite more welcome in the middle of a tiring shopping expedition than holing up here for half an hour with a cup of tea and one of their jam scones. Then back on to the shop floor for more retail therapy! They almost always have a sale on of some sort, so it's always worth a look if you have a specific purchase in mind. read more

Debenhams has fast become my favourite shop on Oxford Street. I have never gone in and not been able to find what I was looking for. When needing a dress for a night out, I get to see so many different brands and designers under one roof, it is very convenient. I know you can do this in other department stores, but I think Debenhams' advantage is the simple layout which makes shopping a breeze - and I normally don't enjoy shopping. So I love the store and I love the collections they stock BUT, they do need to improve their customer service as currently, the only department that goes the extra mile is Lingerie. Oh, and my favourite brand of dress in there is Star by Julien MacDonald. read more

The Debenhams located in the Westfield Shopping Centre left me feeling disappointed after my visit to Debenhams in the Leeds City Centre. The store looks a bit M&S-ish, it needs some serious refurb. The mens department is just boring, but I must say that I have managed to buy some trousers there (with somebody's little help, shopping for trousers is always a big challenge for me). The selection of makeup brands is insane, they carry so many brands including some that are usually hard to find in the UK. They also seem to almost always have sales on the makeup, so a lot of the time I can find a good deal. Although I have never purchased clothing from here, I have looked a the clothing selection and it is pretty good, although kinda expensive. The café is ok, the cakes are decent but it's nothing really special. 5 stars, mainly for the makeup and the atmosphere. read more

Good in parts- I never usually would shop in Dbenhams, im 27 and like my fashion fix to a point, but a friend of mine recommended the St George by Duffer range on Menswear. Its quite casual but in a young trendy kind of way. I checked it out and Id recommend their Selvage jeans, which at £60 is alot cheaper than most places on the high st (minus Uniqlo). Debenhams is located in the Westfields Centre in Derby & is the centre attraction of the shopping mall. It spans 3 floors and specialises in clothes, jewellery, makeup, homewares and much more. I find their prices range from competitive to expensive, depending on what you buy. Overall, its a good place to have a look around and staff are always friendly and helpful. I like the womens clothes section for having brands such as Warehouse, Dorothy Perkins and Oasis all in 1 area. It makes it easier to browse without walking for miles! Unfortunatly, they have recently stopped offering Nectar points with purchases which I found out just as I realised you can use them there. Never mind! read more

This is a big sotore which sits well alongside John Lewis and Selfridges in London's main shopping street. It is very spacious inside but lacks a bit of charm and atmosphere. The staff can be annoying if you walk through the perfume section as some are quite pushy with their tester bottles! The shoe section is awesome though and is great for sales except it does get a little cramped as so many people go to it. The upper floors are ok but the store is a little too big and disorganised for my liking. read more

We had afternoon tea and coffee at the Restaurant on the 5 (5th floor restaurant) while waiting for a delayed business meeting. It was a pleasant surprise to have a real espresso in such a commercial and touristic place. The Americano was also good. The chocolate fudge cake was freshly made and light and their fruit and cheese scones were also very good. The place was clean and tidy, service was quick. The only downside is that there is no view, well, you can see the sky but you have to look up as all windows are masked with some dark net. read more

Debenhams is great! I was in London in transit for a wedding and I had to get a fascinator! Everyone kept telling me to go to Harrods but it's so expensive there. Instead I went to Debenhams and I found the perfect fascinator to go with my dress and also bought tights to wear and other stuff for the wedding. The only complaint that I had is that there are long lines at the cash registers. read more

Years ago i would have given this store 5 stars but my last two visits have been an unpleasant surprise. I would say the best experiences I have had have been in the men's fashion, and the cafe. The staff are really helpful and know their products there. The same cannot be said of the badly signed posted swim wear changing room nor of the rude abrasive staff on some of the concessions (those on the fragrance area particularly!) it seems as though many staff are lacking in basic product knowledge or simply don't care. read more

With a massive variety of stock across their entire range, you can spend ages looking through the many items available. If you tire, be sure to stop off in the cafe in the atrium, which serves some lovely cakes. The ladies in the bedding department were exceptionally helpful - even if they didn't know the answer to the question! In my teens I worked in a Young Fashion concession at Debenhams, therefore, have a great insight as to how the place works and runs, this particular one is immaculate. Not just in customer service but in variety and Decor. The only thing that does let it down is the Young Fashion Dept, it just always looks a mess at the end of the day, a bit like a jumble sale. I do like this branch of Debenhams. I've never failed to find a wedding outfit, party gown for Christmas, or pretty cheer-up self treat here. The womenswear and shoe sections are extraordinarily large, as is the perfume department. And the sales and price reductions are generous: I managed to find a 100ml bottle of Covet by Sarah Jessica Parker for just £26 last weekend, reduced from £39! The store is quite well organised, the loos are nice, and staff are very friendly and helpful. The major downside is the homewares department, where it is truly impossible to find anything, and where staff abandon you to negotiate your way through a sea of china and crystalware stands without breaking anything. As with all Oxford Street stores, you'd be better off going either early one morning on weekends, or - ideally - in the middle of the day on weekdays. They often have happy hour deals in the cafe that encourage shoppers to park their bags and rest for half an hour with some tea and a plate of scones - take full advantage of them! The escelators in this shop are a possible death trap especially for the visualy impaired., If I h had not someone with me to help me to stand on an exact part of a step there would have been a serious accident indeed. OK I could have used a lift, but they are so hard to find and I have used escelators before in other stores, but nothing like the ones in this store. I did make a complaint to a young gentleman who was most understanding indeed. He said that he and others staff members on shop floor had had so many complaints about this, past them forward, but management would do nothing about it, not even put a warning notice or an audio explaining the difficulties. I am VERY concerned that one day a serious accident or even worse will happen on these escelators will happen one day read more
