I believe that every girl has a love/hate relationship with Topshop... Love because: - of its size. - of the variety of clothes they sell - some for every occasion and to everyone's taste. - of its accessories section. - its collaboration with top notch designers such as Louise Goldin, Christopher Kane, or even Kate Moss if she is your cup of tea. - of its precious 10% student discount. - of its vintage section. - of its shoe collection. Hate because: - of its size. - of the variety of clothes they sell, which ultimately tends to induce a severe headache and a burst of indecision. - it is ALWAYS busy. - of its cheap materials. - there are always tall, modelesque beings walking around making you feel a surge of envy and perhaps a little hatred. - of its prices. - you will only ever be able to wear a Topshop item for one season only before it either becomes deformed from washing or it will just go out of fashion. - of its music which usually happens to be play on repeat. The frequency you will spend in this store will always depend on what will win you over, the pros or the cons. All I can say is that I will still be heading here on a regular basis, since ultimately I can't help it, I do really like it here.

SALE - probably not the best time of year to visit Top Shop, unless you fancy trawling through rows and rows of random clothes. You may hit the fashion jackpot and end up with a mega bargain, but you are more likely to leave frustrated. Considering how reasonably priced the regular collections are, this is definitely a more pleasant experience during normal seasons. I came with my niece who was visiting from Germany and we left empty-handed. It was frustrating to see the same items dotting around all over the shop, the displays didn't make much sense with only denim in its own obvious dedicated corner. The changing room queues looked more scary than they turned out to be, there's actually plenty of space, making waiting times fairly reasonable - for both shoppers and their friends, there's plenty of seating for aunties and boyfriends.

I hate this hell hole. And I mean that. Fair enough, it has an amazing selection of clothing, from topshop basic stuff to proper designer boutique stuff to pants which cost 40 quid. The pants are actually really pretty but I can't afford them, really. What I really hate is the atmosphere, the air of desperation, thousands of girls scrabbleing around in an attempt to clothe themselves in a way in which they will appear 'cool'. Because that is all it is really, Topshop is cool and people who want to shop there want to look cool. I like topshop clothes generally, but I do not like the ethics that go with them. No way. So Topshop Oxford Street, unless you go ridiculously early in the morning, is a thriving hellhole of oestrogen over brain matter, insanity over sanity, materialism over the reality of the credit crunch... you lose your mind in there because the clothing laid out is oh so tantilsing yet there is so much of it and so many other people everywhere pushing and shoving and grabbing and scratching, It puts you off clothes, shopping and life. And I like all three of those things thankyou very much. Also, apparently they slave drive their workers and the discount is a really measly 15%, you get 10% off with a student card anyways.

This place was like Mecca for me when I first moved to London, I couldn't get enough of the place. They had everything I needed in one massive building. After a while though, it just seems to vast and too difficult to make any decisions at all once you step food inside. I can't even get off the ground floor sometimes unless a herd of teenagers happens to push me down the escalators to the boutique and footwear sections. While I do buy a lot of clothes in Topshop, this particular branch drains the life out of me a bit at this stage. I now only go there when a non-London based visitor comes to stay and insists on the Oxford Circus emporium as their first port of call. Avoid during the January sales at all costs, its every man, child and woman for themselves.

Top shop is, from my point of view, a great place for finding accessories or cheap clothes and offers a good value for price. It is perfect to hang around without really knowing what to buy. weakness: clothes don't really last...

This location is very easy to find as it's off the main drag of Carnaby street just off to the side. The black paint and signage make it easy to spot. The inside was clean and not overdone so you can really focus on the pieces there. I've always wanted a piece from here but was apprehensive because of the prices (I'm just cheap, the pieces are quality and reasonable for the craftsmanship) but mainly because since all of the pieces are custom made to your size, the items need to be shipped. Told myself for years I'd just go to their Los Angeles store but never did. It's so much more special getting a piece here though as the Great Frog originated here. Staff member named Jaws helped me out and was a lovely human being. Approachable and helpful, not pushy but made me feel good about my purchase. Walked me through sizing me for a ring and talked prices and shipping. Also was friendly that we got off topic talking about life and overall just a nice person who made the experience A+. I'm so happy with my rock n roll ring purchase that I'll be a fan going forward. If you love badass jewelry with a rock n roll edge and history, this shop is the one for you.

My heart sank when I saw the original shop front in Ganton Street boarded up on a post-lockdown visit to Central London. Turns out, they just moved to a new location around the corner in Newburgh Street - phew! With quite a queue outside as well, so the future seems secure. This is the original rock'n'roll jeweller and famous for its collection of skull rings.

The shop is quite cutting edge in what they offer, the emphasis on shape and cut and are amongst the freshest themes out there, there is always an interesting cut to look out for at Dahlia's. Attention to detail is essential, buttons, pockets, stitching and lining. For instance, I fell in love with one of their new season sailor coats, with red buttons and navy backdrop, the lining in silk and printed red stars. Unfortunately, the shape was a bit to frumpy for my height but I can see it being worn by a specific kind of woman amazingly! I encountered the same problem with other outfits, it was such a shame. Their clothes won't fit everyone, but you never know; one of their vintage type, fun cut dresses might fit you perfectly.

Supposedly the designer is British and began selling her pieces on Portobello Road ten years ago. The shop is brightly lit, small and very quaint. I found the Dahlia collection to be rather vintage-inspired, with precise tailoring feminine details. The quality of the pieces are very good and I feel like the price point is fair. There also is a section of vintage pieces in the shop, all in wonderful condition. I found the service to be great as well, my salesgirl was quite attentive and gave me her advice when I was conflicted between two vintage 1950s dresses I had selected. She asked for my contact information so she could ring me when they got in a trench I was eyeing earlier that had sold out straight away. Also, she said she would let me know when the shop got in their next vintage shipment. Overall, wonderful and very genuine customer service. I look forward to what the Dahlia shop has in store for F/W 2010 and I will be back in the shop very soon.
