I visited with the desire to buy a pair of ladies' lined, leather gloves but did not leave with any after two visits. If it were not for a very helpful woman named Hannah in the cosmetics department, I would have left entirely disappointed. During my first visit, my husband and I looked around on our own and asked a few employees; each of which told me different locations for gloves. We saw an entire table of men's gloves while walking around but none for women. I tried all of the location suggestions with no luck, left the store, and called customer service. My call was placed just before closing so understandably, I was asked to call back in the morning when they could reach the people they needed to ask around the store. Before calling again, I looked on the website and found a brand that had gloves just like what I wanted. Turns out that brand is online only but when I called back the next day, I was given three other brands that should have gloves in the store. I wanted to buy them in person, to touch them and try them on. The gentleman with customer service also told me the area in the store the they could be found, including other things around what I was looking for to help me find the way. My husband got food poising the night before so the only time I could make it back to the store during our stay was 30 minutes before closing on our last night in London. That is when I met the lovely Hannah. I asked her if I was near the area I was looking for and began to explain the situation. She didn't just tell me where to look (like every other person did the previous visit) she walked with me to multiple locations on different floors in the store. The brands I was told on the phone did not end up having any gloves but she found a few pairs for me to try by asking colleagues as we walked by. During our time walking around we chatted, she was friendly and genuine. None of the three pairs I tried were the ones for me but I was able to verify my size by trying them on. If it had not been for the phenomenal customer service I received from Hannah I would have been disappointed in the second biggest department store in the UK. Instead, I left happy and returned to my sick husband. I may not have experienced the shopping trip I was hoping for but I did receive the best customer service I have ever had...anywhere. I love selfridges!! Today I popped in there after work to pick up my birthday present, from Tiffany and Co . As I walked in I was greeted by lots of smiley faces, and beautiful bags. The place is beautiful it's modern but if you look carefully you can still see the old fashioned parts that remind you how old the store is. I walked through the perfume section, where I met a lovely young man who sprayed me with a beautiful perfume. Then headed towards Tiffany. Tiffany has a little shop within selfridges, the staff are very friendly and helpful and assisted me quickly. Today I just popped into Tiffany and left, but I have been in there many times before. All the departments are great and I have never had a bad experience. They sell everything, from electrical to clothes and food,at christmas I bought cat toys that were Christmas themed for my kitty. This place has lost the magic. The chocolate library is gone. Went to talk to six of the people working the confectionery, and only one would even talk with me. My wife had a good experience with the White Company. But the tip of the iceberg was when I went to the VAT area. Holy cow- they wanted me to wait 30 min to show my receipts to someone. It was beyond dumb. It's the only place that doesn't just print out a receipt and you're done. I have made this an essential London stop. Not anymore. Sad to see it deteriorate. read more

Recently bought some Gucci Loafers from Selfridges online and they arrived in bad condition like they were already used. Returned the shoes but was told that the refund was not possible because of the damage and the wear and tear. They arrived like that! Return request initiated same day I received the item and returned within 3 days. Item was received back by Selfridges but rejected refund cause they are blaming me for the damage. FYI Selfridges sells used stuff! BEWARE! After days of contacting, still have not heard back. Sadly did not take pics of the bad product so I guess I'm out of luck on this return and out $585 read more

Excuse me for just a moment, while I attempt to regain my composure, so that I might actually articulate something useful in this review. *breathes deeply* I'm not a shopaholic like some, but if I were, Selfridges on Oxford street is what I would consider to be shopping nirvana. I simply don't even know where to begin with this review. I'm overwhelmed just thinking about it. I'm unable to find the approrpiate words...even the ladies lounge is magnificent. Pure. Shopping. Nirvana....and hellish prices. Was it me, or does the quality of goods and prices increase with each level? If you are hyperventilating on level 2, either stay where you are or go back to level one. You aren't ready for level 3 yet...or head straight up to level four for some food and a Frappucino at Starbucks. CONFESSION: I felt a jolt of anxiety as I inadvertantly stumbled upon the Vera Wang bridal boutique on the lower ground floor. My fight or flight mechanism kicked right in and I instinctively bolted for the nearest escalator up. Once I was whisked away from all things matrimonial, safely moving upward to the next level, I noticed a tiny bit of perspiration on my brow. Go ahead...mock my irrational fear of commitment. 77% Amazing selection of clothes during holiday season with so ho-hum dining options. *** Came here Dec '13 with a small group during the holiday season, right after Christmas. The amount of goods carried and the way the store was organized was nothing less than impressive. Despite the high volume of shoppers in the store, the hordes of shoppers moved about freely without the place ever getting out of control or feeling uncomfortable. I liked the selection of goods sold here enough to get a wallet, pair of jeans, and a few shirts. For international shoppers, the tax credit process took around 10 mins wait, and another 5 mins for the rep to give us credit back on our credit cards. I tried one of the restaurants here and thought the food, a crab sandwich, was pretty good. Unfortunately, the service was awful. Having to wait 40 mins for the service, 20 for coffee, and a few forgotten items entirely. I may review the place later. I usually dont pay much attention to department stores, but this was a positively memorable experience. Recommended! read more

Selfridges was so incredibly overwhelming I can barely describe it. I get a bit panicky thinking about it. Actually, it could be euphoria, come to think of it! The store was jam packed with locals and tourists alike and there was a plethora of mini shops within the store. Prada, Gucci, Ferragamo, the Italians were all there. It was a cornucopia of the top fashion houses, an eclectic mix, to say the least and I was in seventh heaven. Maria M. and I must have visited around the same time because the pound was so strong compared to the dollar that my parents were the only ones doing the purchasing. I was the silly blonde trailing behind them. I could have been told it was Christmas and would have believed. What an ah-mazing Domestic Goods department and that is saying a lot coming from me. My mom incessantly talked about getting a butter curler, an obsession that began after the first breakfast was served to us back at the house. After an hour, I got bored with the kitchen gadgets and I ventured over to the Vera Wang gowns, psychologically placed in the same general area as the kitchen department. The gowns were amazing and I'm sure with the exchange rate and the mark up, one could purchase a Ford Focus. The most amazing thing I witnessed at selfridges was actually outside of it. Puma rented out a display window for an ad campaign but instead of putting shoes and shirts in it, they put real living breathing humans inside. A repulsively fit, young happyattractive couple in Puma underwear mind you. Tarnished in a fully furnished upscale room with a comfy looking bed, a warm fuzzy carpet, a lazy chair and a bookcase, a chess table other jazz one would need after just awakening in a window display with a beautiful girl by your side, the happy Puma couple were getting on with their day as if it made sense for them to be in there. it was quite bizarre, quite bizarre. "this is my life in a nutshell. No this is my life in a selfridges window display: help, get me out of this window display! why am I in this window display!!!" Selfridge's is like a modernized Harrod's just no where near as much focus on the home decorating and more strictly the exotic and fancy. look out for the agent provocateur exotic laundry display that sometimes has live models decked out in lingerie. it's basically like Viky's Secret just w/ actual girls wearing the stuff displayed. the men's clothing is cool, i gotta admit. its just way too much £££ which = 2x$$$.lyke outstandingly expensive. I did not know a show existed until I told my parents I went here and they freaked out. So now I have to watch the show. So, sure, great treat to visit a high end department store founded by an American living in London. I really enjoyed my time here. Everything is bright and clean and organized, and fun. I felt much more at home here than I did at Harrods. I especially appreciate the nail shop and the huge array of stationary, cards, and Filofax selections. It was also a pleasant surprise to see products from Rifle Paper Company (headed in Orlando area where I live), in London. I recognized the patterns immediately. I LOVE SELFRIDGES. Love. Love. LOoovVveeEee. I'm done. Not really. If I hadn't lost my religion I would pray every night for a Scottsdale location. Not only do they have an amazing section for young women like me, but amazing after shopping treats like baklava and cupcakes. Harrods may be beautiful, but I can actually afford to buy some crap in Selfridges. Harrod's just makes me feel poor and ugly. Seriously, have you seen the women in there? It's like half of them belong to some Saudi princes' harem and the other half look like celebrities with bad face lifts. I'm not easily made to feel uncomfortable, but their shoe department makes me feel like a beggar with a tin can for a purse. Selfridges would never do me like that. Amazing. It's a department store, but really, it's THE department store! One of the best I've ever been in. I've gone twice since moving here, and will go again and again, I'm sure. But here's the most amazing thing about Selfridges. Chanel personnel? Not snooty. Dior personnel? Not snooty. Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, Cartier... same story. Louboutin personnel? Not snooty, and even encouraged me to try on shoes that were £2000+ just because they liked how they looked with my skin tone. I have truly, positively, absolutely, never been so impressed with the staff at upscale designer boutiques in my life. I have seen reviews griping about sales staff, so maybe I was just lucky, but it certainly made my experience a great one. read more

Absolutely batty. The crowds, the prices, the excess! Oh yes, dahlings! Hard to say anything that hasn't already been said, however, it's worth repeating that this place is one of the ultimate shopping locations in London -- a city that is already known as one of the ultimate shopping locations in the world. So that is saying a lot. And while this is definitely a pricey place with some upscale offerings, think edgy as opposed to snobby. Also, attentive shoppers will notice that the prices do essentially increase by floor. If you don't want to spend more on a pair of jeans than you do on rent, stay off the highest floors! Or just set clear boundaries before you go in and try not to die of envy if (like me) you don't have thousands to spend. Just know that fashion fanatics owe it to themselves to fully explore the place, even if only for inspiration. I've also found that the first and second floors are great for picking up some rad accessories for a reasonable price (especially jewelry). And don't forget there are places like Top Shop here that won't break the bank. If I were fabulously wealthy, this place would be my favorite, and I would be here often. But, as someone who loves fashion regardless of my spending power, I would be remiss not to mention Camden Town for more affordable shopping and a different type of inspiration. Emphasis on the difference -- Oxford and Camden are like apples and pineapples, as far as comparisons go. I love Selfridges! The building is beautiful and I know it's not what's on the outside but what's on the inside that counts, and Selfridges is as beautiful on the inside as it is on the out :) Let's start with outside... each window has a theme, these are great to look at, and I remember being a child at Christmas walking past the beautifully designed window themes. Depending on what entrance you enter you will be greeted differently. On the ground floor you will find the wonderful (and my personal favorite) handbag area, here you will find the high end brands (Gucci, LV, Chloe, Fendi, Christian Dior, Chanel). Once you get bored checking out the very expensive bags you can move across to the perfume and make up area. You will find lots and lots of different perfumes that will tease your nose. The make up area offers high end make-up and skin range (MAC, Bobbi Brown, Creme de la mer etc) The Wonder room is also on the ground floor. Here you can check out the latest watches from Rolex/Cartier/Chopard/Jacob or grab yourself a bit of bling from Bvlgari or Tiffany. If you love yourself a bit of Hermes you'll also find it in the Wonder room. The ground floor is absolutely huge so I'm going to mention briefly what else they have. The Sweetie area yum yum, let's be honest we all love sweets so stop by and grab yourself some Jelly Belly beans. Food area where you can buy imported goods. Yo Sushi & Starbucks. You can grab yourself a cigar or two and buy some over priced exclusive alcohol. On the other side of Selfridges on the ground floor you will find some high street brands such as (All Saints, TopShop, Lipsy, Kurt Geiger, Miss Sixty, Pepe etc). If the ground floor was all a bit much for you to take in and you are not sure what to buy next, there is a Psychic that can help you on the lower ground floor. If you are fed up shopping by this point or spent all your money you can go for a tattoo or piercing. As you can see Selfridges is huge and I've only briefly mentioned what is on the ground floor ... If there is anything you want Selfridges should have it. Take the day off and wander around at a leisurely pace, if you get hungry take the escalator to the 5th floor and enjoy some food. The food hall is let out to external companies such as Tiffinbites and honestly the food isn't that great, but it's handy to be inside the store. The staff varies as many of the shops are concession stands. In general any of the actual Selfridges staff I have come across have been very friendly. Many interesting brands both high end fashion and more affordable, my girlfriend got a pair of vans from Offspring where the staff was very helpful! The perfume department was also very nice! Marc Jacobs. Stunning deep purple satchel. 700 GBP? Psssssh. It was calling out to me. Thank god my sane co-worker (and dear friend!) brought me back to reality by reminding me I don't have money. Although on the pricey side (isn't everything in the UK) due to the pound, I must say that this mall is quite possibly the nicest ever! They had everything from runway to street wear. I was thoroughly impressed to see all the high end brands, all the way down to Comme des Garcons and Crooks & Castles. I wish I had more time to spend and just roam around. Their food court was also ridiculous. They had a Pinkberry and Krispy Kreme for cryin out loud! I hope to visit London in the future, and Selfridges will be a must visit. read more

Hello, is this beauty heaven? It must be! The beauty department of Selfridges is huge and every self-respecting brand is represented in the beauty department. If you're from Northeast Asian descent, you should especially pay the Suqqu counter a visit. It's one of the few counters outside of Japan. I'm particularly charmed by Suqqu's brow products, they have the best eyebrow colors for women of Northeast Asian descent. And Suqqu's brushes are one of the best money can buy out there. read more

Absolutely the best department store I have ever been to! So I couldn't really buy anything because of the whole every-GBP-equals-two-dollars thing, but....OK, that's a lie. I placed an order for delivery. My items were not correct. I contacted customer service and they said they had to send an email to the warehouse to see why my order wasn't correct. They also said I'd receive an email by the end of the day which never happened. I just finished chatting with customer service and still there is no explanation or correcting the order. I suggest shopping with a different business if you plan to have items delivered. I don't understand why I can't send the wrong item back for the correct item, it isn't my fault that the warehouse didn't send the correct items. read more

Apparently voted the "Best Department Store in the World" several times, and for good reason. It'll certainly cost you a pretty penny to shop there though! You'll find most top brands you can think of at some place in the massive store, and the men's section is actually rather large compared to other stores of similar size (although there aren't many stores of similar size...). I can only shop at Selfridges during the winter and summer sales due to the high costs of premium clothing, but everything I've ever bought there has been an excellent and treasured purchase. read more

My Mothership. Or Selfridges to lesser shoppers. In this case, it's necessary to talk accessories. Perfect Prada shaped ones. Birthday Spree's hold a tradition for me in this haven of a store and most recently I spent my 28th in here. For hours. And then hit HIX the Champers bar but that's a whole different tale. Today was about purpose or to put it strongly rowing in the Prada Accessories concession on the Ground Floor. You see I decadently brought a Prada purse here just 7 months ago and it has had the laughable audacity to split at its expensive seams. I love this purse like a child and was not going to take this lying down. I'd called ahead and stressed my disdain and upset and that I would descend on the department store, lawyer in tow (Jeremy). And that I did. The supervisor started out stern but impeccably, immaculately dressed Daniele soon warmed to my tale and was bending over to help me with my Prada predicament. The purse in question has been shipped off to Italy for a 'spa treatment' and they will either fix the issue or replace her free of charge within 4 weeks, which I negotiated to down to 2 weeks. Or else suing and screaming brattishly is my option if they fail. I even got a beautiful dust bag to put my credit cards in and the sound of genuine concern in both Daniele's and manager's Ulrika's voice. Not bad since most posho haunts don't feel the wrath of the complaining questioning of Super Shopper. read more

After spending time in Tokyo, I expected more of this food hall. (I was expecting a massive basement level place taking up the entire level). Selfridges is part grocery store and part food court (upscale mind you) and takes up a portion of the lowest level of the store. The Macy's NYC food hall is comparable and probably even a little better because it has more selection. Selfridges has lots of gourmet items, chocolates, cakes and other sweets, but not too much in terms of hot, prepared foods. Had lunch/dinner at the Yo! Sushi restaurant. Beware: never order a gift from this place to be delivered to someone else. They are incredibly disorganized. They sent the gift and cut off our name, so the recipient had no clue who sent it. So, when I first moved here and had no idea where to find anything, Selfridges was my savior. They had food, for one thing. Gloriously decadent food, like this French mayo that I now swear by, and Iberico lard, and French cheeses, and the most beautiful Cotes du Boeuf I've ever purchased. The theme throughout, though, is quality products judiciously selected to make sure you're browsing and not rummaging. It is a relaxing and enjoyable retail experience throughout every department, even if you're avoiding the Wonder Room. I also really like the mens barber, Gentleman's Tonic. A wet shave and haircut really fits the bill some weekends, and if you can line it up while your wife is at the OPI Nail Bar, then you're ready to hit Hix for dinner before heading home. All in all, I'm a big fan. Not of the prices, mind you, but it is a more enjoyable experience in the process of shopping here than elsewhere, and it doesn't have the snobbishness of Harrods. It also doesn't have the tourists on the inside, as Harrods does, so use the side entrances, and you'll avoid most of the gawkers. read more

Due to refusal to replace or refund faulty merchandise. -I purchased a bracelet for $470 -it broke in 5 different places within months of wearing it -I contacted them about replacing or returning it -they asked for pictures and gave me the run-around for weeks -they ultimately refused to take responsibility for the faulty item -I asked for contact information to supervisor to pursue this issue further which they refused to provide -I cannot believe they would ruin their reputation, not stand behind their products, and disgust a new customer over $470. I really only go to two places in Selfridges - the Food Hall (including the candy section) and the handbag section. I could easily spend an hour in just these two areas, not even necessarily spending a single pound. The Food Hall is full of special treats, and I've never had anything bad from any of the food counters. It's all pretty pricey though, so you've got to be strong and not put everything in your basket just because it looks delicious. The candy/chocolate section is amazing, and they have great macaroons (various brands, all worth trying!). I also get my Jelly Belly jelly beans from here, as I'm addicted, and they're always fresh and a good price. On to the handbag section - they have all the popular, high-end brands, and it's all way more than I can afford and they're beautiful. The staff here are always so lovely even though it's pretty obvious I'm not about to drop a few grand on a bag. I always leave with a smile on my face! read more

As much as I love this department store, I was very disappointed with the food portion served in its Indian restaurant in the food court on the 4th floor. I ordered the biryani for take away and I was shocked when I opened the box to see that it looked like LEFTOVERS.. and would not even satisfy a kid! Very disappointed to have to pay almost £15 for such a tiny portion. Please stop stealing from people this way! Either reduce ur prices or serve proper portions. read more

The place doesn't exude the same opulence as Harrods, but out of so many department stores that I've been to, I give Selfridges a lot of credit for the products they carry. I also have never seen that many people line up for Louis Vuitton. Their summer sales are pretty awesome. I was able to snag a Vivienne Westwood bag for £90 and a pair of Bernhard Willhelm boots for £120. Selfridges is the equivelant of Macys. Boutique shopping and super brands as well as luxury designers all under one roof with the occasional celebrity spotting. Loooveee Louis Vuitton and Gucci in selfridges. They have a good range of the products they carry although you may want to hit up Louis V on Bond street for ALL pieces, same goes for Gucci. You should also have a sip of the ol champers in the moet champagne bar (if you got the cash to splash). They provide a personal shopper service if you want the best pick of today's trends. The layout of the store allows for a seamless shopping experience and it is beyond easy and quick to get help in one of the busiest shoe departments I've ever seen. Beautiful department store on Oxford Street. While the men's clothing and shoes here place a huge emphasis on high-end designer, the store is still, overall, approachable. The front windows are usually beautifully done and even edgy. However, right now (10 January), the corner window is advertising Kid Robot, and it's not interesting at all. Looking for an equivalent to compare in the United States, this store is most like Bloomingdale's, down to the black clothing every staff member wears. read more

What I like about Selfridges, it is a high-end department store, but very approachable, not snobby like some expensive stores. Between the windows, wonder room, food hall and floors of other departments, you can spend several hours ogling the amazing goods. It's also the most like an American department store. Designed by Chicagoan Daniel Burnham and originally owned by a Wisconsin native, Selfridges is near and dear to my Midwestern heart. I can go several times a month in search of recipe ingredients, cosmetics, random clothing, manicures, and shoes. And while more often than not, I leave empty-handed (this place sure is 'spensive--the reason for 3 stars, instead of 4), I still love just going to look. My favourite place to be in London. This is my haven, and my idea of heaven on earth. Selfridges, the super posh student-unaffordable place to shop, has the best sales in the summertime, and is just an excellent place to buy clothes that are investments, not fast fashion pieces. And their new shoe galleries, which are gorgeous and mouth watering and somewhere I cannot be alone in, is the epitome of perfection. And, you can do everything here! There are bars, the food hall on the fourth floor (that does an excellent crepe, and really good fried rice and curry), the toy section on the fourth floor, restaurants in different parts of the store. Hanging out here made me broke while studying abroad, but that's alright because I got some excellent investments that will last me a lifetime. One more sidenote - if you're as pop culture obsessed as I am, this is the place to go for celebrity spotting. I've seen Naomi Campbell, Professor Green, Rochelle from The Saturdays, and a bunch of other celebrities shopping here. It's just the place to be. read more
