I'm going to write a review just for Pierre Herme. Yay for bringing Pierre Herme to London! To me Pierre Herme is the king of macarons. Some people prefer Laduree but Pierre Herme does it for me. I went into selfridges today and headed up to the kids section holding my baby in a wrap. Much like a shark smelling blood in the water, the floor manager could sense my grubby middle class hands disturbing her precious gucci onesies... or maybe it was my wife's brown skin that tipped her off. Yes this is a department store. It carries all the great designer fashionable names like Ralph Lauren, Yves Saint Laurent, Romeo Gigli, Christian Louboutin, Comme des Garcons, FCUK, DKNY, Louis Vuitton, Victoria Secret, DSquared, North Field you name it, so I was slightly put off when I saw a large section in here reserved for ... Primark... Yes my friends, Selfridges stocks this incredible and high fashion shop, for those discerning fashionistas out there, you can now stock up on your favourite lounge pants for £3 or rocking that onesie for £8 - that's a bargain b... Macklemore would have a field day. Beside that, the place is a little too much, sure it is in London, sure it is on Oxford Street, sure it is one of the best know department stores. I just cannot escape the feeling that this is all being a bit mm..sexed up. The place is more a tourist attraction and it feels like you are looking at art in a gallery, art you can touch, try on and buy. Not the best art mind, but acceptable and reassuringly expensive (..bar the previously mentioned Primark). Selfridges is a collection of shops in a big building, posh shops with some unique offerings. As much as they try, and they try hard, it just didn't excite me as they though it would. read more

Absolutely love Selfridges! They have everything you could need. Women's clothing includes more affordable high street fashion on the ground floor (including Primark and H&M), with top designers (like Chanel, Lois Vuitton) situated on the second floor. The ladies shoes is similar, with high street shops, such as Office and Topshop, all the way up to Jimmy Choo and Louboutin. Another section that I could get lost in is makeup and fragrance. There are so many testers and samples to try. Browsing the beautiful designer jewellery and watches is pretty fun too. Also, they have the best chocolate section! :-) read more

A friend sent me to visit the redesigned shoe department (or shall I say, floor) at Selfridges. I have to say, it was quite IMPRESSIVE. And yet totally unrealistic for my own life...I am not the kind of person who spends more than $100 on a pair of boots/shoes. Maybe one day I'll be able to waltz into the Selfridges Christian Louboutin boutique and point to any pair of shoes, saying "Wrap it up for me" But for now, I was happy to just fantasize as I walked through the department. read more

Out of all the department stores in London, I cannot believe I hadn't yet been to Selfridges. In 1906, Harry Gordon Selfridge founded the store, and the rest is an amazing history of survival. HIs creative and innovative vision and passion for customer service for all lives on in the story. Selfridges is something that everyone should experience. It is unlike any shopping experience I have had before. I didn't even know it existed until I watched an awesome BBC documentary about Mr. Selfridge. I think only the entrance doors provided a hint of the history of this place. Everything else was modern and fresh. Maybe in ahead of it's time. You could spend a day at Selfridges wondering the maze of floors. You could eat breakfast at one restaurant, lunch at another on a different floor, enjoy an afternoon wine somewhere else, and grab dinner. Each floor seemed to have a unique dining opportunity. The shoe gallery was unlike anything I have seen in real life. It was out of a magazine or movie. Some of the shoes were pieces of art. I don't usually like shopping, but this took shopping to a different level. read more

Selfridges is the department store for the people. Yes it is like Harrods or Liberties but not as expensive (mostly). It is not located in the well to do area of Knightsbridge, but on Oxford Street. The street of never-ending high street retailers, it is impossible to walk down the sidewalk on a Saturday, this area is so flooded with people. This is the place to go to load up on clothes during the sales. It doesn't have the charm of Harrods and before I moved here I had never head of it, but who needs nostalgic ambience when you are surrounded by SO MANY CLOTHES! It also has Men's, Kids, Jewellery, Beauty, Home & Lifestyle, Food & Wine departments. Don't forget to check out Santa's Grotto during this festive season, and stock up on beautiful ornaments for the tree. read more

Fun place to visit, its an extreme, higher end department store, and more. They have various brands of clothing, and my favorite, various kinds of FOOD. I like their baked goods area, nicely designed cookies and pastries. Its fun seeing all the different American brand foods in their grocery section...but I love tasting all the Marmite flavored snacks. Every single time I'm here, its always packed with so many people, families, tourists, everyone!!! Be prepared and be patient. read more

You can't miss this store. There are usually limos or Maserati's parked in front w/ t bright yellow bags lined up int he trunk. What recession?! If you worship food, fashion & fun....bring all your debit/credit cards (or a very loving bf) & turn off your cell phone for the afternoon. Start off your day peering through the many options in the foodhall, then go to the bottom floor & check out the special exhibits they have going on. Right now they are having the Kelly Bag experience. You have the pleasure of sitting inside a huge leather purse & staring at a screen as if you're a purse item. Sounds like some strange fetish though...... I love the store fronts! So whimsical & fun. Right now the topic is "Play" & it's like a Pixar movie that includes people of all ages. The service people are all immaculately dressed, so try not to look like a tourist when you make your visit. They have a large shoe collection that includes American brands such as Nine West. It's strange, but American brands like Gap, Banana Republic, Body Shop & American Apparel are very popular here. Save your American brand shopping back on home turf though.....the prices here include the VAT, are in GBP, and very rarely go on huge sales like they do back home. read more

The Selfridges location on Oxford Street is the flagship location and it is gigantic! Selfridges claims to have been "voted the best department store in the world." They have a large number of designer boutiques in the store and they are known for their unique and ever-changing window displays. There is a large and varied food hall, in-store restaurants, and I was offered a glass of champagne while I shopped. This store is the largest store on Oxford Street and is the second largest shop in the UK after Harrods. Like Harrods, the store is very crowded. I know you have everything imaginable under the same roof but what IS with the new women's fashion lay out? Hello! don't put your Dior next to your Reiss. One minute I am looking at something I can afford and the next second I have fallen in love with a £2000 coat. This is how Grand Theft Auto was born I am sure. And if you want to argue this stylistically, PS Whistles belong next to Reiss and Cos NOT Marc and Sonia. The Shoe lounge was like fabric on a bad night. Except exchange the barmen for harried sales girls and people high as kites for mad women buying shoes like they cost nothing. Finally- did Selfridges have some underhanded deal with some terror organization to put all women in debt? Coz that's the only thing the world's largest shoe emporium could surely contribute to the world... and pretty shoes on my feet. :) read more

Ooh, I do like to wander around this food hall when I am in the area. It is like a more expensive Waitrose but it has heaps of fresh counters with different cuisines: Chinese, Thai, Indian, Turkish, Lebanese, English, Japanese, Welsh etc. Lots of fresh seafood,smoked fish & meats, veggies, cheeses, breads etc. Also has a few places where you can sit and have a coffee & lunch of salads, donuts, sandwiches, wraps, roast meats etc. Enjoy Champagne at the bar there with some oysters or watch the different food demonstrations taking place. They have a varied selection of foods from countries such as America, Singapore, Australia, Japan etc. Nice to browse through and treat yourself every now & then. But it would be a bit likes Marks & Spencers - only go there for certain bits, then get the rest at a Waitrose. read more

Last Saturday in the Selfridges food hall I watched a man walk from one deli counter to the next blatantly swiping all the freebies. This man was sharply dressed and I'm pretty sure he could have afforded a sandwich but no, he was going to get his lunch by exploiting the good will of the store freebie. Some of you might be reading this and thinking, 'Good on him' but imagine being the frustrated customer walking two steps behind. I couldn't try anything, there was nothing left! At Selfridges prices there was no way I was actually going to buy a whole chorizo, but I would have quite liked a taste! This small rant aside Selfridges is one of the nicest department stores in London. Like many people I find its size a bit daunting but in terms of the quality of goods, Selfridges gets top marks. The lower floors generally have more affordable fashion and as you creep upwards so does the price tag. There are beautiful collections of designer ranges, Chloe and Stella McCartney to name a couple, but sadly for most of us we can only look longingly. Although I've only awarded Selfridges 3 stars it's not because I don't love it here. However, because the shop is so enormous and always so busy I find it impossible to navigate especially if I'm looking for something particular and don't have the time to wander aimlessly. In a sense I just wish there was a scaled down version for me to enjoy on my own. read more

This place is something amazing! Probably the best department store in London. I was there during the big sales after christmas and it was pure madness! But of course you can forgive them for the human congestion and the screaming kids because for sure you'll find something special for you at a good price! Go there with your boyfriend and leave him in the food hall or in the wine cellar and enjoy hours of pure delight in the shoes dept. I absolutely recommend Lola's cupcake for an hot chocolate during winter and a place to rest a bit without spending a fortune! Early in the morning is the best time to go there ;) Tip for all the geek: they sell quadcopters for every grown up kid out there, so run and buy one for you! They are amazing :D read more

When I first walked in this magnificent palace...err I mean store, I felt like a kid in a candy store! I have been lost in here a couple of times and had thoughts of never finding my way out, and somehow didn't mind. I had visions of being locked in over night but had comfort in knowing I could just go to the furniture floor and find a nice bed to sleep on. Heck I wish I could live there! I wouldn't get hungry either because there is a gourmet food floor after all. And I would always be well dressed because every possible designer you can think of, has a wide array of their label's best, displayed as if they are cute little puppies in a pet store window saying, "buy me, buy me..." I used to live just around the corner from there and that was probably the coolest thing everrrr - especially because I was the first there for their yearly July super sale. I have fond memories of when my flat mate and I were literally pushing the security guard out of the way as he opened the door that sunny July morning. My flat mate was yelling, "I'll be in shoes!" and I yelling over my shoulder back, "You know where I'll be!" I hurried over to the Gucci hand bag room to grab my prize - I selected it the day before the sale (on our recognisance mission). The shiny black leather purse was like the holy grail. I purchased it without a thought in the world as I handed the cashier three big, crisp Queen Elizabeths. Yea, it was 300 pounds half off, but I didn't care, I was in heaven. It was pure adrenaline! (I've never spent that much in my life on a bag, prior to, or ever since). This is what this store does to you I tell ya! And it made it all worth while when my then boyfriend came to get me for a date and stopped me and said, "Did you get a new bag? Gucci!? Nice one. Looks good on you!" Ahhh, so worth it! I have never had the excitement as I've had when shopping in this store. It has this aura of chic, young, elegance that draws you in like a moth to a flame. This article is particularly about the Nespresso boutique on the lower floor at Selfridges. It is a little hidden for by-passers below the jewellery on the lower ground floor. While it was a lot smaller than I had expected, it had everything a true Nespresso fan would need. You can buy machines, capsules and also try the new ranges (for free). I recently went there to try the new flavours that had just been released in mid-November. Chocolate was my choice this time (though there are two others as well). They are all based on my usual choice the espresso (strength 6) Livanto. There was no pressure or obligation to buy anything though I was the only one trying a cup. I am used to quite big Nespresso boutiques, such as the one in Hamburg, Germany Hamburg, Germany which is much bigger and has a Café in the back where any club member can have a coffee any time. So, all in all I can recommend this boutique. I would suggest the Nespresso team to be more open, offering possible customers a cup to try (they might end up buying a machine and come back regularly for capsules). After all, Selfridges customers are usually not the poorest Londoners around ... read more

Having once worked for Selfridges (in Birmingham) I am probably a little biased. However, I am also fairly shopping phobic and this brings my level of bias back down to the acceptable level. Selfridges has an innovative store design, which doesn't look anything like any of the other department stores I have visited. Despite its traditional building, it uses lighting and displays to make the place look a lot more contemporary than the other Oxford street stalwarts such as Marks & Spencers or House of Fraser. It offers a wide range of products from mid-range to top end brands such as Chanel and Louis Vuitton. My favorite part of the store is the food hall, where you can buy a huge range of imported foods for exorbitant prices. Look but don't touch is the motto here, unless you are missing something specific from your home country. There are also a number of restaurants and cafe's located in and around the food hall, many of these offer good value for money and are one of the few easily accessible, non-fast food places to eat on Oxford Street. read more

In general, I do not really enjoy shopping. But sometimes, you just need something. For example, when you break a cereal bowl while washing up. As I went to Central London anyway, I decided to go to Selfridge's and see if I can find something. Finally, I went for a cheaper option at M & S next door, but I must admit that Selfridge's offers quite an enjoyable shopping experience, even to me. This is quite an achievement. It is a large and beautiful building where you have enough space to walk around without bumping into random offerings along the way. The airy shop layout really contributes to a positive and convenient shopping experience, even when you leave without buying anything. A little detail is the silent room. I did not check it out, but alone that they have a silent room where people can calm down in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street probably says something about this shop. Selfridge's might not be the cheapest store around, but if you look for a quality product and not just a inexpensive replacement for a broken cereal bowl, this store is definitely an option you should consider. read more

I like my department stores like I like my television: populist, accessible and fun. As such, Selfridges is one of my favourites. A bright, inviting, young, cool, cavernous department store stocking everything you could ever want/need/have to have (delete at your leisure) under one roof. I usually hit the beauty department for its Stila, Mac, Laura Mercier and Bare Escentuals concessions and the younger fashion section on the ground floor which stocks the diffusion lines of cult labels such as Vanessa Bruno, Isabel Marant and Paul and Joe. Oh, and miss the legendary Selfridges sale at your peril. It may be harder to get into than Punk nightclub during one of la Moss's famous parties but I once found a pair of blush coloured Dries Van Noten leather heels for £20. This is high fashion Mecca. read more

I think this is the best department store in London and the best by quite a margin at that. It's at the Marble Arch end of Oxford Street and located in a huge building which is quite often wrapped up in scaffolding like some sort of wonderful present from the builders. Inside everything is ordered as you'd expect but there's a real fluidity to the different areas and the diversity of the goods on offer is so impressive. They have the usual perfumes, TV's, deck chairs, Marc Jacobs, Vivienne Westwood but they also have loads of familiar high street brands that are grouped together, including Top Shop, All Saints, Diesel and HMV downstairs. They also have a few different little cafes and restaurants throughout although I personally prefer to do the shopping bit and then head out to somewhere a bit cheaper and more relaxed in nearby Gilbert Street or up in Marylebone. If I'm going to compromise somewhere on a day out here I'd prefer it be on the sandwich. Not that it's particularly cheap but there is also a great food hall here and they have fantastic salads, sushi and cakes plus there is also an EAT, Dunkin Donuts etc...ducked away in the corner. read more

I actually pinched myself the first time I came here. I thought it was a dream -- a delicious, expensive, foodie dream. You can find almost anything in here, but it does cost a pretty penny. And it is SO worth it. My favorites: Pierre Hermé (a beautiful box of these inventive macarons --blackcurrant and chocolate? green tea and chestnut? -- was probably the best birthday present I got this year) and LOLA's Cupcakes (I haven't had a red velvet that good since the last time I was in New York). But the food hall itself is great just for scouting droolworthy items like fresh pastas, meats, and so on. And for all the Americans on Yelp, I highly suggest perusing the American Foods aisle -- it's a funny cultural experience to see what items have been deemed to be representative of our food culture! read more

Although less aesthetically posh than Harrods (which is a good thing, considering Harrods looks like it's out of a Vegas Casino), Selfridges is a modern consumer experience. It offers everything and anything with a label. If you have the time (and the money), their personal shopping service is helpful, but you need to book on advance. I love their ground floor (accessories, cosmetics, etc). Last time, I ran in here to buy an eyeliner cos I realised I'd forgotten to apply some before leaving for a night out, but each and every time I set foot in here I always get sidetracked by the HUGE selection of handbags...particularly Balenciaga and Marc Jacobs...that they've cleverly placed right at the entrance. You can also snag some great pieces during the sales. Upstairs they have a well rounded selection of both men's and women's ready to wear, but it can be a bit overwhelming for me as I prefer boutique shopping. Love love love the Christmas displays in the windows and the friendly tax return folks on the main floor. Easy to find what you're looking for, and the selection can't be beat. Bought things at Charlotte Tilbury and Louis Vuitton. Charlotte Tilbury staff are super. Very friendly, charming and helpful. Love them. Louis Vuitton left me very frustrated upon leaving. It was very busy, and it took some questioning to find out that they do indeed have a customer queue system in place. I knew exactly what I wanted, and it took 45 minutes for them to locate and package 3 items. Yikes. The sales associate I worked with was very nice and charming. They refused to hot stamp a hotstampable item, claiming it was "impossible". My local LV took care of that for me back in Vancouver, no problem. Printer at her computer didn't work, so more waiting to pay and get a receipt. No one was helping my sales associate out in order to expedite the process. Although very happy with my items, I was disappointed in the experience. read more

Selfridges was pretty cool. I'm a guy and shopping is not a past time for me, so this was more of a treat for Charisse A. I just kind of hung out while she did her thing. It is obviously a very famous place and pretty upscale. The building contains more than shopping, it has history and culture. Really, though, the stuff you buy here, for the most part you can get elsewhere. That's just guy talking to be honest. I'll shop at a dirt farm and be just as happy. The ladies we were with, including my wife, really loved the place and judging from their unabashed bliss, this is a pretty good spot. The rub is, if you have ladies or guys in your life who love shopping, chances are, they'll love shopping Selfridges. read more

How do I even begin?? There is nothing like this place in the US!! It's amazing. For starters, they have a "food court" that would put Whole Foods to shame. They simply have the most delicious gourmet foods in abundance. After you move out of this area, you move into what I would like to call Candy Mecca. Now I'm not sure if I was there over Easter (one of the biggest candy holidays of the year) or if it's always like that, but the amount of delicious confections was infinite. The whole store is amazing, but I spent a good deal of time in the small leather goods and book section. I got two great coffee table books there but then of course, had to lug them around the city for the rest of the afternoon, and then of course, had to pack them in my luggage (that added another 10 pounds right there). I truly wish we had something like this in New York, but if we did, it would take a bit of the fun out of visiting London! read more

I know doing my weekly shopping at Selfridges is incredibly pretentious. I can buy English mustard as Lidl just as easily and much cheaper. But grocery shopping is not really grocery shopping. It's a personal statement and quite frankly I'd rather be caught on camera in an overly expensive, hyper inflated ego driven lifestyle store than a budget, pull out your 1p pieces warehouse of no name brands. The deli counters are stacked with opulent looking dishes of every kind. They make the best British biltong. They also do great international foods to go. The chocolate section is vast. Selfridges is also not as poncey as Harrods. Surely that's a better incentive. read more

I like how the name brands are divided into little boutiques in the store. The store does offer some brands that are higher end as well. This place is fun to browse through if you don't plan to spend any money shopping. They also put on some great sales also. I've gone into Selfridges a few times and it really feels that unless you wave £50 notes under the shop assistants they couldn't really care. Brilliant! With something for everyone and helpful staff a department store like this does not get any better. Whether you are coming for the food hall (which I frequent for items not sold anywhere else), the makeup, fantastic selection of watches/pens, the fashion, or just home decor this is a great starting point. Although Selfridges has (clothes as example) ultra high end fashion brands, they also stock H&M. So don't feel you are pigeon holed in this department store. NOTE: Having to write customer support is never a good thing for a business, but the way the issue was handled was both professional and fast. Simply due to the way Selfridges deals with customer issues deserves a 5 Star rating. read more

I went to the Yo Sushi food counter here and it was over priced, overly crowded and mediocre sushi. I did the mix and match sushi and it was just so expensive so I wouldn't recommend that. I was not very impressed. read more

The patent yellow brand for this store is famous worldwide and throughout the year people who visit London visiting the Selfridges store is a must. I admire the efforts of a large pile up of high-end brands under one roof, but thank you very much I prefer a more personalised attitude to shopping. The sales service is quiet average here, except for some of the very exclusive brands. But the store is flocked with people always. So the busy atmosphere does create a sense of 'rush' and 'speed' which I personally dislike when I'm shopping. I have bought a few small items here and there, but its my last resort to visit. read more
