Tips: - The foodhall is worth the visit. Enter from Oxford Street. - Candy is on the lower ground level. - If you come here around Christmas, the Christmas section is lovely. I was in London in December 2013. I visited a bunch of department stores. Part of me was curious about how they are set up versus how the flagship department stores in Canada were set up. I visited the flagship Selfridges store on Oxford Street. Rest in peace to the flagship Eaton's store in Winnipeg that I frequented often when I worked across from it. I also miss the flagship Hudson's Bay stores in Toronto and Winnipeg. I will toss in the flagship Simpsons store that preceded the Hudson's Bay. I stayed in South Kensington. There was a bus stop steps away from the hotel and around the corner from Gloucester Road station. I took the 74 Putney bus that got me to this store. I could have also taken the underground to Piccadilly Circus, but the walk would have been a bit longer. I wasn't sure how much damage I'd do here! I entered the store from Oxford Street, which gets you on the ground level. I remember seeing sushi on a convenor belt to my left. It was cool. It was Yo! I'm glad that this eatery is still around. You can dine here or do takeout. I entered the foodhall. I was so happy. I saw cupcakes, oysters, caviar, and more. Everything looked fancy and yummy. The ground floor had a beauty section and a pharmacy. This store is large. It's the second-largest department store in London, behind Harrods. I spent most of my time on the lower ground level. It's where the candy, wine, and cookshop sections are. I love candy and confections. I saw everything from macarons and chocolate malt balls, to fancy bourbon and wine. I bought some chocolate bars. They were perfect to hand out to colleagues. They were also Christmas-themed. I got milk and dark chocolate varieties. They were delicious. This floor also had a cinema. I didn't check it out. I was too busy visiting the technology and stationery sections. I was so happy on this floor. I spent the most time here. I did check out the women's clothing, which occupies levels 2 and 3. There was a lot of designer clothing. It didn't suit my casual, cheaper style. I loved coming here just before Christmas. It was festive and fun. The Christmas section was enjoyable to peruse. I have fond memories coming here. I hope to return someday. This store is over a century old and I'm pleased that it continues to endure. (49)
We popped into Selfridges for their jellycat pop-up of the Fish & Chips. It was VERY busy, but also so fun! We explored all around and I purchased the cutest charlie chip to commemorate my visit to London. The staff was all friendly and helping the children along as they chose their favorite. This was such a fun experience and id recommend it to anyone nearby!
This place is huge!! I could spend all day here. I came for the Jellycat selection and was pleasantly surprised by the SYLVANNIAN FAMILIES POP UP! my best friend and I got matching keychains Ahhhhhhh!!! Then spent the rest of our money at Astrid and miyu!
Of all the shops we visited in London, Selfridges was one of our favorites. We compared this with Liberty's, and Selfridges is a lot more lighthearted and fun, but with the same quality merchandise. My friend and I had heard of the London Jellycat plush pop up at Selfridges and had to go see it for ourselves. (We did normal shopping too, but the Jellycat popup was out of this world amazing, I have to talk about that). First off the attendees at Selfridges were very nice and accommodating, getting us baskets when they saw how much we were buying and answering any questions we had. They were very cheery and brightened our shopping experience tremendously. When we made it to our booked time for the Jellycat experience, it was so well themed and the "workers" on the Jellycat truck did not break charachter even once. You picked out which Jellycat plushes you want (a salt shaker, a piece of fish, mushy peas, fish and chips, and more). The workers take your plushes you picked out, and act like they are "frying them up" (or whatever other cooking technique if you didn't get the fish or fries). Then they have the purchaser do something fun to the item like blow on it to "cool it down" or act like you're shaking a salt shaker on top of the fries, etc. So amazingly cute and interactive. They then wrapped them in cute blue and white checkered paper, like you'd get your fish and chips wrapped in when buying fish and chips (the food) in real life. There was also a giant Jellycat plush of Timmy Turtle, in the same fish and chips shop apron as the attendants, who is sitting in the front of the "fish and chips" food truck, and you could sit in there with Timmy and snap a cute pic. They also had a ton of other Jellycat plushes outside of the Fish and Chips pop up, if you are looking for any others you need. They have a whole section of Jellycat plushes, so you'll definitely find something you like. I know this review was mostly about the Jellycat pop up, but it just is to show how high of service and care for their customers that Selfridges offers. Whether you're there for a Jellycat, other toys, or adult things like clothing and accessories - Selfridges is a retailer who really focuses on the customer and wants everyone who shops there to have a great experience.
Founded in 1908 by Harry Gordon Selfridge the flagship remains a shining example of old-time department stores slowly disappearing. No longer the deal it once was for tourists after Brexit a visit here still outpaces Harrod's in terms of selection and customer service, while the holiday window displays are always a thing of beauty.
Totally obsessed with this Mall. Honestly I didn't think London's Malls would be this grand. We only came here for mine reason and one reason only. Which was the JellyCat Fish and Chip Experience. So booking a reservation through their website drove me crazy. The website always crashed and too many technically issues. They will not book you over the phone. So you have to come to the mall and hope that someone else cancelled so you can take their spot or just book a in person reservation for the next day. However, once your there they still have plenty of Jellycats you can chose from even the items on the menu from the Fish and Chip Experience. The selection is wide but limited. The customer service we received was beyond phenomenal. This whole experience did cost a pretty penny but was definitely worth it. The Mall it's self is big and let me just warn you when you first walk in it smells like a perfume factory in the foyer ( instant headache). Besides that's its soo much to see and plenty to buy.
Lovely, traditional store and always nice to pop in before Christmas. The food section has some great choices if you're looking to make your own hamper. The layout is a little crammed so I'd recommend going when they open. The meat counter was a bit overpriced but they had some very high quality items. They have a separate Christmas section like most of the staple London department stores. Very nostalgic if you're into celebrating Christmas.
Average. Disappointed. Too expensive for what it was. Service sucks. Will I come back? No Not worth it. The menu is not great
A beautiful place to shop with all the luxury items you can imagine. I will say though some things are overpriced but of course if you're wealthy this is essentially their Nordstrom's or Sak's 5th. You're greeted almost immediately upon entering which is nice compared to the American malls. The only thing I purchased were macarons Pierre Marcolini. Delicious but 25 pounds for a selection of 8 is quite pricey in my opinion.
I actually prefer this to Harrods now. I'd you go on a typically busy day or time yes it will be nuts. But Harrods is ALWAYS crazy and so busy you need at least a half hour to check out alone. Here, on normal days if you go in you're likely to find a normal level of busy. There are people to help or check You out or send you in the right direction. The luxury department store model has greatly splintered but this fall of the luxury but not pretentious end of the spectrum. In recent trips I find myself headed here over other options that a tourist may stop at or need to go to (on my most recent trip I tore up my heels after a dinner in shoes that had yet to be broken in) get a pair of backless walking shoes (mules) and found exactly what I needed in under a half hour. Also a fun story and souvenir for anyone in your life who is a fan of the show
While I loved Harrod's in London, if your goal is mostly clothing shopping, and you are pressed for time, Selfridges is the place to be! Good selection and service was good.
Fun. Has it all. Some decent prices and great service. Many choices. Took home quite a few things. Huge variety.

Came here to shop on Boxing Day and there was an insane amount of people. Each floor was jam packed and it was difficult to maneuver around the clothes and people. They really need some sort of population control for each room. The brands they have are all pretty unique. Some of my favorites are Ted Baker, Karen Millen, and Burberry; however, there isn't a wide selection of sizes but there is definitely a large selection of fashion styles. Love the European high styles, think lots of buttons. If you are from overseas, the tax deductible area is where you go if you want to not have to pay the British sales tax. You are given a number after showing them your ID and receipt. The more you buy, the higher the tax deductible is (rumored up to 14% rebate). Then you wait in a crammed room until your number is called - the wait is around 20 minutes on Boxing Day. Then a sales representative will help you with everything. Oh and free water too. Overall, pretty good experience but super crowded. read more
I'm an international customer from the US and I LOVE selfridges! I purchased my FAVORITE Saint Laurent bags from here that are so stunning and are always compliment getters and conversation pieces. Their online customer service is spectacular and I've never had a problem with them aside from when they sent the wrong bag (I wanted gold hardware and they sent silver) but let me exchange it right away and even gave me some credit! Just wonderful! Overall, major stamp of approval! If you're a lux girl or any kind of fashionista, you need selfridges in your life! I highly recommend. read more

Selfridges is a high-end department store. This is the flagship location. They have other locations in Manchester and Birmingham. It was founded in 1908 by an American named Harry Gordon Selfridge. Read about him! He really made shopping into what it is today. He invented many marketing ideas still used all over the world! He wanted to make shopping fun and he wanted stores to be comfortable and welcoming. Before him, shopping was a boring chore. He made department stores into a place of fun and socializing and a cultural center. This is the guy who came up with merchandise being on display so customers could look t it, touch it. He made the perfume counter in the front of the main floor. He had sales papers and advertisements made. He's supposed to be the first to say 'the customer is always right.' He also loved science, and he had educational displays in his store. In the 1920 and 1930s, there were gardens, cafes, mini golf, and a gun club for women on the roof! They also had fashion shows. During World War II, the basement was made into an air-raid shelter. The original store was designed by Daniel Burnham who also made Marshall Field's in Chicago. They have really wonderful window displays! Most tourists to go to Harrods, which is great, but please don't miss this place! read more
Selfridges is located on Oxford St and Bond St in Marylebone, London. It's luxury and huge department store and pretty similar to our Holt Renfrew at Canada. As tourist, I would love to check it out even though the exchange is not favourable to us. They had lots of lovely things in the designer collections and well-stocked. However, the price quite steep after exchange. If pound and C$ at par, I would definitely buy a lot here. read more

What a treat - whether you intend to shop or not. The entire 4 floors are filled with designer eye candy that you can admire, touch, try on, buy. No pressure of boutique shopping, no stares. I personally live in the country and have no reason or place to ever wear the latest fashions (exept for maybe some cute wellies for my sake alone). But I appreciate and admire haute couture. I came here to submerge myself, to see and touch the latest Chanels, Valentinos, Yves St Laurents. And boy, did I enjoy my day! When here, make sure to treat yourself to a champagne - The Corner on the 2nd floor fits the bill! read more
Selfridges is a Grade II listed retail premises on Oxford Street in London. It was designed by Daniel Burnham for Harry Gordon Selfridge, and opened in 1909. Still the headquarters of Selfridge & Co. department stores, with 540,000 square feet (50,000 m2) of selling space, the store is the second largest retail premises in the UK, half as big as the biggest department store in Europe, Harrods. It was named the world's best department store in 2010, and again in 2012. This is my favourite department store in all of the UK. Been here many times and it keeps changing every time I go back. It's got a ton of high street fashion and big fashion brands under one roof. The choice is endless and you can spend a lot of time just browsing. Staff are also very friendly and you can get some good bargains if you look around enough. There are two or three cafes in here for a stop as you wander in this place. You can spend a lot of money here and walk out very poor :-) I go back every time I am in London for men's shoes and clothes from a ton of designers you don't normally see in many department stores across Europe. read more
Another Harrods. This time in central London. You can find just about anything here. The food hall has to be seen to be believed. The people who work there are all super smart in black and very polite and helpful. (It's England...what can I say?) Wonderful place for gifts if you're not watching your wallet! read more
Put your seatbelt on for this place, and bring your wallet. Hippo's humping in the Men's Shoes department. Get a cocktail while you shop. If you do not have a wallet, or are on the outs with your wallet, you can buy one here. I bought one here and its sumptuous. I did an impulse buy and bought a delicious Launer Wallet. Just point and pay. See it, like it, point to it, buy it - then blink. Absolutely luscious and delicious here. Speaking of, they have a very nice food court here as well where you can have oysters and champagne. More new school than Harrods. On par with Galleries Lafayette in Paris. read more
Wow. What a place. Where to start? I have passed by Selfridges many times, not knowing anything about it until I watched the TV show, "Mr. Selfridge". The show got me interested in checking the place out. It looks like any old school London department store, but once inside, it is just as stunning as its neighbor across the park, Harrods. This place is huge. The men's department is on one floor, but it felt like the largest floor of men's clothing in the world that seemed to never end. Everything from suits to casual. Just about every high-end designer was represented and unlike a lot of high end stores, they had a deep selection from almost all of them. The staff there were friendly and helpful. In particular, I was trying to find a shirt at the Gieves & Hawkes shop in my size. The sales guy had them in inventory but could not find them. He looked all over the store and really worked hard to try to find me what I wanted without trying to sell me something I didn't want. In the end, the shirts did not turn up, but he called the Gieves & Hawkes store on Saville Row for me, secured the shirt for me and I purchased at the G&H store. Although he did not get the sale, he seemed more concerned that I got what I wanted. I will definitely return to Selfridges to shop again. Retail stores everywhere could learn a lot from the high quality service at Selfridges. read more

I enjoyed exploring this humongous shopping mall on Oxford St, London. I loved how colorful and lively everything was. It was fun spending a day at this location. Everyone nice and helpful. I couldn't afford to shop there but it is a fun place to walk thru on a date or spend a day getting to know someone better like I was. read more

Best department store in the world you say??? I agree 100%. This store is fantastic. They have designers like Chanel, Alexander Mcqueen, and Diane Von Furstenburg. They also have luggage, shoes, perfume, makeup, bicycles, wine, wiskey, and a pharmacy. Its an incredible shopping experience. What was so special was taking classic afternoon tea at Dollys. The tea was very nice with sandwiches, scones, and cakes. It is a simply civilized experiance and worth every penny. I will be back. read more

This branch of Selfridges is a huge department store, and the brands main flagship branch in the UK out of the four they currently have, with a branch in Birmingham and two in Manchester. This store was the original branch, opening in 1909, the store is so big infact, it is the second largest-store in the UK after Harrods, which is also in London and is one of many impressive department stores in the London area, which also includes John Lewis which is also located on Oxford Street. With this being the largest and flagship branch, they seem to have so much here compared to other branches, such as a huge Food Hall, which is something the Manchester Exchange Square lacks and the Manchester Trafford Centre branch also is lacking (it has a food hall but I find it to be very poor), the food hall infact has large brands in its' own right, as well as Beyond Bread for example, who are a gluten-free bakery with two other stores in London. They also had a decent selection of products such as pre-prepared desserts and sandwiches. As mentioned, this store is huge, however it is an old building so the access around the store could be better, for example, the lift going up to the Food Hall was hidden so much, it involved quite a long walk to get their from one of the main entrances, and even the staff members were unsure where it was. Despite being an old building which opened back in 1909, 89 years before Selfridges opened their second branch in the Manchester Trafford Centre, the store does seem quite modern in parts, mainly down to the large amount of stands from different brands across the store having reasonably modern displays. Another thing I like about this store was a few of the unusual factors it olds, for example, Heinz Beans previously did a stand here selling baked beans "with a twist" to celebrate their anniversary as a brand. One of my main issues with this store which is currently stopping any higher than a four-star rating is the difficulty of getting into the Food Hall and the lack of seating when you get their, basically forcing you to just get your food "to go", rather than sit down with it. Issues with the knowledge, friendliness and helpfulness of the staff also arose during my trip to the store which was a shame, however due to the mainly positive nature of this review and my experience in store, I'm pleased that I've been able to mark London (97) overtaking Liverpool(96) as my second most reviewed city on Yelp, which comes after only my home town of Manchester! read more

Better than Sephora! I cant believe i just said that, but I did! I'm absolutely in love! I admit, I was a complete need for the tv show Mr. Selfridge, so when my friend and I were strolling along Oxford Street and I saw the sign, I knew we HAD to go in! And what did I walk into? The cosmetics floor. It was all over from there, I didn't care if I didn't see anything else in London that day. Haha! There were all of the amazing brands I love, and then some! They even had a section for the newer Christian Louboutin cosmetics line. (I haven't looked much for it here in the US, but I'd only seen the lipsticks until that point). I lingered at the Jo Malone counter, and had fun sniffing everything. I even fell in love with a new scent that I just HAD to buy. :) Btw, if you find yourself at the JM counter, ask for Eleanor, she was great! I definitely know where I'll be stopping for my beauty fix the next time I'm in London! read more

Oh, I could absolutely live inside of Selfridges! If you love shopping, this is most definitely the place to be in London! Each room brings something new and exciting- from the beauty mecca to floor upon floor of apparel. Charlotte Tilbury was a personal favorite part of the beauty area, and we made sure not to leave empty-handed. The staff members are all wonderful and eager to help when needed. Besides all of the amazing shopping offered at Selfridges, they are home to one of the greatest food halls on Earth (at least in my opinion!). There are macarons from Pierre Hermé, massive chocolate hazelnut bars straight from Italy, rows and rows of cupcakes from Lola's, refreshing juices from PRESS, gourmet Krispy Kreme donuts, and fresh Mediterranean delights like hummus, baklava, and tabbouleh. After all of your shopping, the food hall is a great place to go for some indulgences. read more
Selfridges is a large high-end department chain in the UK, founded back in '09 by Harry Gordon Selfridge. They offer women's/men's/children's wear, handbags, shoes, accessories, homeware, kitchenware, as well as beauty products. I remember feeling a bit underwhelmed with the place when I was in London years ago, as it seemed as if they didn't have much of a variety of selections like Harrod's. However, my recent experience in ordering from their site was super great! They had some limited edition pieces in my size - ordering from their site is such a breeze, and you can shop in your local currency with no problem. You can choose your preference with the delivery options, and with my purchase amount, I was able to get it delivered for free! I was shocked that the package came in 2 days (as they do ship from London) - the box was super secure, requires an authorized signature for release, and the items inside were folded and wrapped carefully with cute polka-dotted tissue paper as well as a layer of bubble wrap for extra good measure. I just wished that the items themselves were not so crumpled, but I do understand as these might have been the last ones in stock. Great experience all around, Selfridges is definitely a store you should keep an eye out in terms of specific designers/items you are looking for - they may just have them for you! :D +great secure packing and delivery :D +may shop in local currency on site read more

Cool collection of stores/boutiques. I think the exterior artwork is phenomenal. It's the first attractive to catch my eye. I never get tired of seeing this! The display window always has some creative flare paired with the product. read more

Seriously -- what's NOT to love about Selfridges?! From the food halls with every type of cuisine you could ask for to the sprawling beauty section to the highest of high end designers - everything about this store is superb. The main thing I love about European department stores is how ornate they are in comparison to American ones and Selfridges does not disappoint in that respect. While there this week, I couldn't help but treat myself to my dream Celine and I'm so glad that I did! This store just makes you want to shop more and more! read more

We started off our day by going to Selfridges for boxing day sales on oxford st. We caught the train to bond st station and walked a few minutes. There was a queue outside to get in. This place is massive but only fULL OF Designer brands. I made my way to the Burberry store looking for.a Burberry coat or trenchcoat and even after 50% off, the COats cost around 700 to 1000 pounds. Definitely not affordable. Left feeling really poor. read more
