I feel very lucky to have chosen Extra Space Storage (ESS) in Herndon because the customer service is OUTSTANDING. On the day I went in to sign my contract, I actually ended up standing in there just chatting with the staff for a while after contract signing was finished. They are all very personable and knowledgeable. I had all of my questions answered and felt very confident that if i had any questions or concerns at anytime, someone would be available to answer them. I think these days, good customer service is hard to come by, and ESS in Herndon deserves a ton of praise. In regards to the facility itself, I don't have anything to really compare it to. I have the 5x10 unit, which perfectly fits the contents of my DC apartment. It is easy for me to just swing my the unit to add or remove items at any time, and moving everything into the unit was easy as well. Being a young woman, I also feel very safe coming and going to the facility at any time of day, which I also think is a very important thing.

I…read morehave nothing but good things to say :) Also for being a storage facility, I thought it was kept pretty clean and in pretty good condition. Units are in good shape, well lit, easy to access... I did see that there were a lot of comments about the facilities, but honestly, they seem comparable to most similar storage facilities in the area. Just standard units with various sizes, indoor/outdoor/temp controlled options and garage doors style openings. More importantly, the temp controlled area doors were always closed in my experience, which is reassuring, because you pay a higher rate for that. During business hours (when staff were onsite), I would occasionally see the gates were left open, but never doors. I don't know if that was for staff to have easier access, but I never experienced that after hours. I would also say that I felt the site Manager (or corporate?), were very prompt in communication. There was a sprinkler that had gone off somewhat near my unit and I received prompt notification about the incident and to come in to assess any damage to my things (I pay for insurance each month). The actual sprinkler was not in my row of units or on the same end of the rows, but I appreciate being notified so that it wasn't a surprise if I came in and there were issues. I give the overall experience 4 stars because it did become very pricey and it seems the only way to avoid these price hikes is to just move your stuff to a different storage facility (and who needs the hassle?). I had stored my stuff here for 4 years in a 10x10 indoor, temp controlled unit. I will be transparent about my pricing experience: Jan 2020: $290 Jan 2021: $296 July 2021: $345 April 2022: $390 August 2023: $393 May 2024: $454 The May 2024 jump was pretty larger and more than I was willing to continue to pay and I did contact the business directly to work out a deal for a few months until I ultimately down-sized enough that I didn't need it (It was very easy to cancel, no fuss). I just want to point out that it was never double and I was always notified in advance off the next month rate increase. I don't agree how the corporate-levels of these facilities operate. It does drive up prices unnecessarily, randomly and by jumps that are hard to manage. I do think there are scam-esque qualities, but that is an economic policy argument and note a review :) So suffice it to say that overall, storage is pricey, but this was a very nice facility and experience overall.

Allan answered any questions I had, as well as made sure I was aware of all the loading decks, how to get in, how to use the locks, etc. By the end of our tour I was extremely confident to sign a lease and felt safe with the property/where my stuff was being stored. Pricing options were great and Allan was very transparent on working with me if needed come renewal time when rates will eventually go up. The process to get a unit was smooth and fast, which I appreciated a lot during the stress of moving. I definitely recommend Extra Space Storage :) Malik and Allan are both great!

Tyson's Self Storage is the perfect place for those of you looking for a place to store some of your personal effects, whether it's for a couple months or a few years. I needed a place to store some items from our condo as we prepared to move out in the coming months, and came across this nice establishment located behind the Toyota dealership - literally. To get to this place, you will have to drive through the Toyota dealership and you will find the entrance in the back. The units themselves are very simple. I don't believe there are any climate controlled units (although that may have changed), and the doors and walls are made of metal (doors) and brick (walls). The unit I rented out was 10x10x5 and it served its purpose for a solid 9 months. My items included: Pots/Pans Plates Glass Items Electronics Clothing Cotton/Leather Fabric DVDs Ceramics just to name a few, and it lasted throughout Summer, Fall, and Winter without any damage or issues. The unit kept everything dry and clean (no bugs). As far as payment goes, the owner is VERY easy to work with. She is both professional and kind. You can pay on a monthly basis, which is what I did, without any hidden fees or contract requirements. When I was ready to move my items out, I gave her a heads up, and on the day I moved out I just called her and everything was cancelled without any further hassle or paperwork. Short and sweet. So, if you're ever in the area or need a very simple, no hassle, place to store you items you should check out Tyson's Self Storage.
