Small quaint and fantastic! The seafood was amazing. It is small. We sat at the bar and had the select seafood "tower". All of it was fantastic but my favourite was the salmon crudo. Having a big night out at work & we all decided to head here. Walked in without reservations & asked for a table (Not the High Bar) and we were told about 30 mins wait, when all of a sudden they started whipping tables together out of no-where to seat us and then as we were about to seat, they said there was a spot opening up on the back deck if we wanted to wait. So within 5 mins we were seated & It was great, A little warm that night but ok for the most part (Fan was plugged in RIGHT Next to me) We had already been to Lolita before for drinks & snacks so sitting for a while was ok. We ordered the Gloucester Plateau and the Select Plateau because we thought just one wouldnt be enough... OMG Delishness. The Dressed Lobster was to die for & the Scallop Ceviche was just the best thing I ever ate. I am soo going back to order just those! We got tons of sides, Blue Prawns, Spanish Octopuss Then we got the Roasted Lobster, OMG Everything was just delish! Hung out there for too long, Had some Orange wine which was really good also! Will def be back once Im able to eat again! read more

Overall, this is one of the better seafood offerings in the Back Bay Area. Solid food, excellent drinks and attentive service.

Came here with some co-workers for dinner and was quite impressed by the super fresh seafood we got AND their wine list (which was awesome). I would list out what we got, but I swear that we got almost one of everything. I was a fan of every dish we received as all of the seafood was super tasty, really fresh, and just well done overall. It's definitely a pricier place, but that being said, most good seafood places are. What I thought was really special was that they had a very diverse set of wines that they offered that were super nice to complement the seafood they had. Lots of interesting varietals that you wouldn't see at most restaurants, so I was a big fan of that. Would definitely recommend, just make sure you get your wallet ready. :) read more

We stopped in one night to grab some oysters and a cocktail. It was a Saturday evening, just after opening. We did not have a reservation. So when I asked if they had an opening for two they were a little snobbish about not having a reservation.... I get it. It's Boston.. have a reservation. But this was a quick last minute plan. The place was fairly empty again, as they just opened. The hostess was able to sit us at the bar and gave us a strict hour timeline.. Fine I get it, you have reservations, but I guess they are not very welcoming of walk-ins. We asked the bartender for a few recommendations for cocktails. She was great! Her recommendations were perfect! We had the castaway and Sazerac. Both were perfectly made. Just the right amount of booze but not overpowering. We decided to get a dozen oysters to go with our cocktails. They were perfectly shucked and very clean. Overall, they drinks were great and the oysters were perfect.. The bartenders were excellent. However, the hostess was less than friendly to towards a walk in customer. Again, I get it it's Boston, you should always have a reservation. But they could of been a little nicer about it. Oh and by the end of our "hour timeline" the bar as still virtually empty.. I will give them another try because there are several items on their menu that look really tasty and I've heard great things about the restaurant. Hopefully this was just a one time occurrence. read more

You want great culture and some fresh seafood or just a great plate of food this is the joint. If you're looking for a booth to have for your party or a lot of room while you're seated without a reservation then you can go to a franchise restaurant that'll offer that. Here, you'll get some of the freshest sea food available to man kind (take it from a Mexican from Baja Mexico) From the tuna tartare to the oysters all the way to the steak. The food here was great. What made it even better was being on the bar, with limited space, but we all knew why we were there. Great music, great vibes and even better sea food This place is small and they make the most of their seating. I sat on the bar and the bartender was one of the best bartenders I've ever dealt with. 5 star place with 5 star service for its niche. If you're expecting a host to greet you immediately then you're most likely going to have to wait. Because of the demand that's why. This place is fire ! read more

My friends and I decided to come to dinner at Select Oyster Bar and sit on their patio. We had an amazing experience overall! We started with the salmon crudo which tasted great. I had the Halibut as my main and the fish was cooked perfectly. I also loved the puree and the vegetables with the dish. My friend ordered the steak which was also cooked to perfection. This is quite impressive considering the fact it is a seafood restaurant. Although there are no main vegetarian options, my vegetarian friend ordered two starters: the beet salad and the romanesco cauliflower which she enjoyed thoroughly. We were disappointed that there was no dessert but we honestly did not need it after all the delicious food. Great experience. Highly recommend read more

Came on a Friday night with high recommendations. This place has a great bar area and looks smaller than it is at first. We were quickly seated in the back and began dinner with The Lucky Day cocktail which was overfilled with ice but was good nonetheless and their selection of Massachusetts and Maine oysters which were excellent. We also had the Spanish octopus and white anchovies on bread with tomatoes which were super good as well. For the main dishes the swordfish and halibut were highly recommended by our server and both dishes were super fresh and delicious. I was concerned my picky husband wouldn't eat the cauliflower salad and purée that came with the fish but he actually enjoyed it. Everything we had was very fresh and light including the main dishes. Glad to support Latin owned businesses, especially when they're this good. If you love dessert and coffee after your meal head down to the street in back of this place because they do not offer either. Come hungry though and you'll leave very happy and not overly stuffed. read more

My sister, one of the few people I unequivocally trust with restaurant recommendations, has raved about Select Oyster Bar so naturally I made Saturday afternoon lunch reservations. I started with the oysters, which were fresh and varied. Next, I ordered the uni crostini appetizer. This was my first time trying uni and it tasted how I'd imagine uni tastes (haha). I wasn't the biggest fan of the flavor of the uni itself but its creaminess in texture mixed with the perfectly buttered and seasoned crostini pleasantly surprised me. I know anyone who likes uni will love this dish. We got the white anchovies dressed in some sort of tomato sauce on toast. These were delicious and I love how mild the taste of white anchovies are compared to brown anchovies. This was much more in line with my palette than the uni toast. The petite clams were delicious and the little bits of chorizo in the broth added so much flavor to the classic garlic, white wine, parsley sauce.. The spanish octopus was simple but in the most complimentary and delicious way (and cooked to perfection might I add). It was topped with super fresh cilantro and blistered snap peas. The service was super friendly, and the atmosphere was nice! It is a small restaurant but it delivered on a big scale! I will certainly be back. read more

Icelandic Arctic Char was amazing! The skin is left on and cooked to a crisp so you can enjoy it with the rest of the fish. That, along with the other aspects of the dish, make it delicious. Seating area is limited inside so book reservations ahead of time. read more

I think the mandatory 23% fee for service and kitchen leaves a sour taste in customers' mouths when the service isn't exceptional. And, the service during our meal certainly wasn't - the restaurant was nearly empty, but it still took a couple minutes to get seated, and the waitress wasn't very welcoming or friendly. Perhaps the mandatory 23% fee for service and the kitchen leads to some complacency. The food was fine - I enjoyed the oysters and salmon crudo. read more

I've been here 3 times. All were very busy times, yet service was good by the bartender (I always took a bar seat) and didn't wait long despite having no reservation. Highly recommend the octupus with snow peas (i think). Super tender, the snow peas have the strings removed and is very fresh. Oysters are super fresh from all the varieties they offer. read more

So a couple of thoughts about this place: It seems to be very popular...and very small. So it's easy to find a waitlist here. Make reservations if possible. Most of their food is "crudo" and they don't have a lot of variety. So if you are not a fan of raw fish, this place is a No! You may get away with ordering Avocado Toasts, which are really good, yet... I learned here that there is such thing as too much avocado. Oysters seem to be good and fresh. You can mix and match to please everyone at your party. Expensive... high end... fast service. I give it three stars due to the small variety of dishes and impersonal service. 1/3 people in my party was very very please with everything and loved the food. 2/3 unimpressed. read more

In Boston for a little work & pleasure. This restaurant was near our hotel ( The Lenox) which I will also review. Ok this wasn't a bad restaurant. But it wasn't a good one either. I gave this a 3 star review base mostly on the value for the food, atmosphere and most of all the very pungent smell of COCKROACH spray. Now I grew up in the ghetto , not sure if that's a proper term anymore but we lived with that stuff. Perhaps the exterminator came earlier in the day but the restaurant had a nasty extremely unpleasant odor and it was not food related. It really tainted my experience so it was hard to relax. Keep in mind I am very smell oriented. The food was blasé except the oysters were very good. I had halibut which was forgettable and we also had a 14 ounce steak which was drowning in onions. The bill was $336 for 3 people. We had 3 drinks, the oysters, the halibut and the steak ( which I believe was the main portion of the bill) They added a hefty gratuity (22%) to our bill which was strange because we were not a large party. The service was very good because our waitress was very sweet and made sure I got a glass of wine I enjoyed. She brought me a taste of two. Was this restaurant horrible? No Would I recommend it? Every time I'm on a business trip in Boston, I come to Select Oyster Bar. I love their daily menu which always has some new type of crudo and of course they always have at least 6 types of oysters to choose from. Highly recommend, though this is not for the budget minded... read more

Stopped by Select Oyster Bar for a late lunch on a Friday afternoon. The place was surprisingly busy for the time of day, though we were able to sit down inside immediately (they have a number of outdoor tables, but all were full). We got Oysters and the Maine Lobster Salad. Overall, food was very good. The Lobster ratio in the salad was strong, candidly maybe a bit too strong, as I honestly felt there was more lobster than salad. Service was good and restaurant interior was nice. Only real downside here was the menu prices. This was an expensive lunch. read more

Friendly service with fresh seafood and great ambiance. I'm not a seafood diner so the options were limited for me but the wine selection was great! I had the most amazing glass of Riesling and our bartender was patient and enthusiastic and helpful. The swordfish was delicious as well as the avocado toast appetizer. And while the bar area was very tight, I didn't feel uncomfortable as the vibes were great. The variety of music was my favorite part, somehow listening to Drake and reggaeton while eating at a trendy seafood and oyster bar felt oddly comfortable. The missing fifth star? They offer no kinds of dessert. Not even just one. I usually need that. read more

The menu at Select Oyster Bar ranges from $14-36 for Fruits de Mer, $12-21 for their Starters, and $28-52 for the Mains, so when we noticed that they were participating in the March 2018 Dine Out Boston RW at $38 for 3 courses, or $25 for 2 courses (lunch only) we selected their establishment for our lunch date. FLASH SEARED DAYBOAT SCALLOP pickled fennel, orange, feta, mint MAINE LOBSTER SALAD ruby beets, pistachios, whipped avocado ROASTED ARCTIC CHAR haricot vert, almond puree, pickled red onion We discovered that a credit card is necessary for making a reservation, however, they only charge $25 for those who totally no show without cancelling. Not sure if that is $25 per reservation, or per person in the party. But before I was able to confirm that, we cancelled our existing Restaurant Week lunch reservation given the forecasting of Winterstorm Toby. Toby was a bit of a dud, so I made fresh reservations the morning of, in hopes of scoring us table seating, rather than bar or high tops, if possible. I then rang them scant minutes before the reservation as I was only just exiting the T station, only to be asked if we were coming for the Dine Out Boston menu. Yes, we were. Unfortunately, due to the winter storm, the delivery had not arrived and they would not be participating in Dine Out Boston. Would they be able to make any alternative arrangements given the circumstances? No. I was bummed, and suggested to my DC that we make alternate plans ourselves. With only 2-3 other parties seated at that moment, it would have been nice if Select Oyster Bar would have accommodated us by perhaps offering a selection off their normal menu for a similar price point, but they unfortunately did not. read more

Select oyster bar does seafood perfectly in Boston. This restaurant is tiny and romantic and a perfect spot for a special evening out on the town. We decided to split the lobster salad and beet salad to start. The lobster salad has large chunks of lobster knuckles, cabbage and radish and is dressed in a light vinaigrette. This salad is a large portion and well worth the cost. The beet salad is the best I've had in Boston. The beets are atop a goat cheese-yogurt spread and covered in candied Pepitas. For main dishes we ordered the swordfish, halibut and sea bass special of the day. All main dishes were delicious but it was agreed that the swordfish was the winner. I have never had swordfish so light and moist. It is seared and placed atop a bed of roasted cauliflower, crispy chickpeas and mango. The special was a seared sea bass on top of a bed of farro with lobster and cherry garnish. The halibut was the least favourite of the dishes, however, it was hard to compare when the swordfish was so unreal. The only downside to this restaurant is that they do not offer a dessert.Overall select is one of my new favourite spots in Boston and a place where I will frequently return. read more

I, & the Great Gal, are quite pleased that we ignored the average rating of this restaurant. I gave the 5 stars because of the service performance of Alejandro (our primary server), very ably assisted by Sarah, who prepared the best sazerac that has ever passed over my lips, coupled with a ripping spin of oysters (ask the Great Gal which ones she ate..... I, admittedly, only ate one.... but we had major "Oh Wows" for the avocado toast, mussels with a broth that you could tip back (Sarah accurate quote) and a Halibut, that was superbly prepared, presented, and tasty, tasty, tasty!!! Oyster Select is now on our Must Visit list! Much thanks to Alejandro, Sarah, Claudia, and the foodie chefs/staff of Select Oyster. One minor issue. The footprint of the restaurant is so narrow that seating at the counter is literally elbow to elbow, and any movement to/from your seat requires passing through the waiter's station, or the food prep area downstairs if you visit the water closet. But don't let this deter you from visiting, and enjoying, the food and service of this very fine, quality restaurant. read more

The best way saved for last. This place is a reason I'd go back to Boston. We ordered the Seafood Tower. The smallest one and added 3 different oysters to it. We all had the wonderful wine of waiter Andrew's opinion. The Banshee Pinot Noir came with bountiful flavor. The cosmopolitans that I had been trying all around town....well Select Oyster Bar had the best! The tower came with some very large and tasty shrimp, oysters, scallop ceviche, dressed lobster and crab salad. We also added a side of cauliflower. This food presentation was phenomenal and the seafood premier. There are no desserts but don't worry, you will not leave hungry. Many kudos to this establishment as it is a 5 star. Andrew, our wait friend, was a 5 star as well! Bon appétit! read more

We were looking for a great seafood restaurant and that is what we found at Select Oyster Bar. The raw bar options are incredible . The shrimp were perfectly prepared , tender and delicious. Oysters were fresh and juicy and the crab and lobster salads were excellent . My favorite item was the incredible Wild Halibut. Flavor, texture, temperature and visually perfect in every way. I dreaming of having this halibut again soon. Wine list and cocktails very well designed . Friendly and efficient service . well, I think boston restaurants do have their own personalities regarding their customer services. You cannot really predict what kind of services you are going to get based on yelp reviews, but we got our luck at select oyster bar on a friday afternoon. We sat at the bar without any reservation. Their bloody mary is pretty bomb, as well as their local oyster recommendations, which are both meaty and juicy. Chilled lobster is another must try which is both fresh and chewy in texture. sth worth mentioning is 20% service has been included in the bill. read more

Fresh delicious oysters. Presentation could be better. Also had the lobster in butter which was quite good, and the blue crab salad was edible. Quite loud and crowded inside. Popped in for some mussels. Definitely did not disappoint, perfect for a chilly evening like this. The broth was just... CHEF's KISS wooooo! 5 stars for the food. -1 star = the table I was given is literally ON THE SIDEWALK without separation, so that just felt unsanitary and not very hospitable. It felt like sitting in a hallway- when there were other tables inside the box area that were available- Like why seat me there?? I'm paying about 30$ for mussels, and will be tipping on top of the included tip- single diner- please give a nice table. -1 star = Instead of saying "Im gonna need it back in an hour"- say we have another upcoming reservation in about an hour, would that be enough time for u? lol sheesh lawd read more

We visited on a Friday night and though we walked in without a reservation, we were seated fairly quickly. That was great. We ordered a dozen oysters, two of each of what was on the menu, as well as the ceviche, Icelandic Arctic char, and two cocktails. Total bill? $194. The oysters were great, but everything else was pretty much "okay". The Arctic char (similar to salmon) was overcooked and dry. I could have made the same thing at home. And though we liked our servers, we had to ask for bread not 2, not 3, but 4 times before it came at the end of our meal. I would also skip the cocktails because it was extremely light on the alcohol. read more

A group of us (4) had dinner here recently and this place did not disappoint. The food was excellent. The oysters were fresh and delicious. The entrees were fabulous. The sides were scrumptious. The rind was paired well. Here's what we had: A dozen mixed oysters Grilled Spanish octopus Mussels White anchovies Avocado toast Halibut entree Bouillabaisse entree Artic char entree Yellowfin tuna entree We shared a few bottles of rosé and Chablis Everything was fantastic. Prices are in line with the area (pricey). There is street parking and it can be difficult to find in Back Bay. Service was better than ok, but not great (7.5/10). I'd gladly give this place 5 stars if the service was exceptional. Not sure if the forced 20% automatic gratuity has anything to do with the service slightly missing the mark, but it's certainly possible. Overall, a very nice experience. I would return in the future. Food pics on IG @potsandpens read more

This is low key a great spot. It is pretty expensive but an awesome treat. The lobster roll was great and rivals Neptune's. Definitely get the lion's heart cocktail (not on the menu) as it's a bourbon-cocktail that is easy to drink and will get you drunk. The oysters are all great too and are served beautifully on a tray with everything you need to enjoy. The inside is really hip and nautical themed (but in a classy way). The service was excellent too! read more

My husband and my go-to for date nights. We've tried most items on the menu, all of which are amazing. You can't go wrong. We always ditch the main entrees (which are good, don't get me wrong) and get a million appetizers. Our favorite is the salmon crudo that comes with pistachio oil. Ask for bread to dip in that oil. Talk about foodgasm. Another favorite is the octopus. If you think that sounds gross, you can go be a loser and miss out on life. Service is always amazing. Get a reservation. read more

Extremely disappointed by my first visit to this establishment tonight. Service was horrendous (expected much better for automatically adding 20% gratuity). Waitress was annoyed by my table ordering drinks and an appetizer. Somehow two glasses of wine and the appetizer made the bill $75 a person. The kicker was the service, at-least try to put a smile on and be attentive to the group even if we're not ordering full dinner plates. Will not be returning here. read more

Made reservation for 6:00. arrived promptly and when my husband requested a table instead of bar seating (backless stools) , we were told we had to be out by 7. order was taken quickly and service was fast. Food was great. At 6:45, we were told that it was almost 7 and the check would be brought. I gulped down the rest of my food and glass of wine. That is one reason I would never return to this place. Others include the deafening noise level, servers slamming dishes and utensils when clearing and rearranging tables/chairs. LOUD music and too many people squeezed together in small spaces. Who wants to spend $$$$$ for dinner when you're rushed and get a headache from the noise. I wouldn't go back there if they paid me $$$$ and gave free food/drinks. Awful experience in spite of the delicious food. read more

Food ok but overall experience was disappointing. Ambience and service were poor and only go if u like eating in midst of chaos and dont mind paying alot for privilege. No host or greeting and nowhere to wait. Be warned , this is a very $$$ resto that could/should do better. Server was curt and she had attitude. No dessert/coffee a la North End so very much rushed in and out. Our party of four spent over $500 and it was mediocre.
