    Backpacking around Europe themed dinner

It's almost been a full 3 quarters eating at the Segundo DC 5 days per week and I haven't gotten bored yet. When I go at the normal serving hours, they always have something good. My personal favorites are when they make pasta with thick creamy sauce. Definitely a must try. The Mac and cheese is usually good. The staff really try their best for the themed food nights. The Harry Potter night was amazing. The butter beer was fun and tasty. For May 4th, the theme was May the fourth be with you. They was an actual R2-D2 rolling around, staff were dressed in Star Wars outfits, and their were giant cut outs and cute decorations. If all else fails, you have the Wok which is basically Mongolian bbq but they only cook it with chicken. You also have a consistent supply of bread, spreads, cereals, and milk. Definitely try the omelette station at least once and if you have dietary restrictions, call the DC and order something you can eat.

My favorite Dining Commons at UC Davis! Segundo is very spacious, clean, and has a friendly staff. It's close to Umall and rite aid, so its convenient for off-campus students to dine~ The quality of food and atmosphere has definately improved since my freshman year. They now have a panini press and a waffle maker, which can be used at any meal. I like how they have the food display outside of the Dining Commons so people know what will be on the menu today. :) Came here around 12:30 PM for lunch with a friend, it was pretty crowded but we managed to grab a table. They have variety of food such as burgers, fries, salad bar, sandwiches, mongolian bbq, ice cream, cookies, and many more depending on the day~ The salad bar is amazing since there are so many toppings and dressing to choose from. Very healthy! My favorite are the pizzas (cuz I am an unhealthy slob. haha). They are so cheesy and hot every time I get them. Late night cookies are also delicious too~ They are always gooey and fresh out of the oven if you go at the right time. For lunch, they had mac and cheese with ham, and is was delicious, I loved how they added paprika to the casserole. The chicken patties and fries were good, but I wish they were crispier and the bun was toasted. The lines can get pretty long during rush hours (12-1PM for lunch, 6-7PM for dinner), so I would not go during those times if you don't have too much time. Overall, a great place to get lunch or dinner if you are lazy to cook/wash dishes or have a freshman/transfer friend who can swipe you in :)

Out of the three dining commons on campus (Tercero, Segundo, and Cuarto), I would say Segundo is the easiest to access! It's right by the ARC and parking lot. Also, It is as spacious as Tercero, and I feel like it does provide a good variety of food. Someone like myself, may be concerned about the "Transfer 20" or "Freshman 15", but honestly, the dining commons have both healthy food and unhealthy food. I would say the portions are decent - not too much or little. You can always ask the chefs to customize to your needs too. My Favorites Here: - MONGOLIAN BBQ! (But expect long lines) - Supply of Cherry Tomatoes (Salad Bar) - French Fries (Near the burgers. Tastes a little bit like chicken salt) - Fish Tacos - Unlimited coffee & creamer Unfavorites: - Vietnamese "Pho". It wasn't even pho, it was just some sort of non-Vietnamese chicken soup. - Frozen Yogurt - Only providing orange juice in the mornings Note: The food quality varies day-to-day. Check online for the menu before you visit!

I remember hating the DC so much as a freshman, but now I get excited every time I can get swiped in. I prefer the Segundo DC over the Tercero and Cuarto, even though Tercero brings back great memories. I love the selection of healthy food! I always leave super happy after filling my stomach with organic fruits and veggies, whole grains, and other good eats. They have such a huge selection of food, that you'll be covered no matter what you prefer. I used to eat anything so I was content with their pizza, burgers, and plentiful desserts. Now that I live a more healthy lifestyle, I am still satisfied by their variety of fresh vegetables and healthy dishes! I always leave happy.

GOD DAMN!! The food at Segundo is ridiculously good. I only visited this place once in the last decade and can only compare it to the DC at UCSC. Davis BLOWS AWAY UCSC's DC at College 9/10 Pepperoni Pizza: Hot, cheesy, delcicious Chow Mein: Meaty, not too oily, delicious Cheeseburger: Thick, hot, a myriad of toppings available including onions lettuce and tomatoes, delicious Frozen Yogurt: Real stuff, Dreyers brand, Delicious Fries: Some were small and not potatoey. Many were burnt. However, decent overall. Grilled Chicken and Carrots: Chicken was a bit dry but still pretty good. Slices of steamed carrots were great. Delicious. The Segundo DC Is HUGE! The selection is amazing. the building's interior is super modern-looking. Live here. It's ridiculous.

So good! Everyone is really nice and they let you take fruit and dessert to go - don't mind my weird combo but just look ---

It's a large open space and I liked the windows and the high ceilings - could definitely see it being a nice hangout spot. I got a lavender foam topped cold brew which seemed to be a seasonal special since I love lavender flavored coffees, but the foam didn't really provide creaminess or sweetness to the cold brew which was quite strong and bitter. Mixing it didn't really help either and the foam curdled a bit and I ended up not really being able to taste the lavender because it got overwhelmed by the cold brew. I think I probably just picked poorly but I can't say I really enjoyed my drink - perhaps a latte next time!

I got the super burrito bowl and it was pretty good except the carne asada tasted like straight adobo. The rice is a little weird, I thought it was couscous. The other stuff (beans, corn, pico) was seasoned well and even though it's not as big of a portion compared to Chipotle the price is reasonable. Guac is extra so I got sour cream. I'll definitely come back and try chicken next time as well as the other options here.

Cheapish eats, chip and salsa bar, quick and fresh food. There is both indoor seating and outdoor seating and it's located on the cutest street. The fish and shrimp tacos were great and filling, topped with so much crunchy cabbage, hiding the protein, but it was there. The flautas were delicious and the steak tacos had big, juicy bites of steak. The guac was weak (not an order but what came with flautas). It was more of a thick avocado salsa. Props to the great beer options - with some local varieties from Davis. We went when school was out for summer and it was still quite busy for dinner. I imagine during school days, it's packed. I see why this is on so many of the Yelp top places to eat: it's a great value with large portions and good eats.

I loved the quesabirria taco, which came with consommé and my Aggie taco was ok. The Aggie had so much cabbage my friend asked me if there was any fish inside. I assured her there was but it did take me about 4 bites before I found my way to it. Otherwise, everything was tasty! The blue corn tortilla on the Aggie taco was a nice touch since it's one of UC Davis' school colors. The service was great; everyone was friendly and I liked that they cleared away our empty plates often. I also love that they have a complimentary chips and salsa bar. This place is obviously popular- the turnover time was fast and still more people were coming through the door when we left. Thanks and I'm looking forward to returning for brunch!
