Overall, this place is good at what it's supposed to do: provide food. The food is often good and every now and then they will have more options than usual like sushi and pho, but generally it's the same things like grilled cheeses, burgers, fries, and salad. Our Dining Commons are ranked #17 nationwide and they definitely deserve it! There's so many different options available, and they try to accommodate for all sorts of different dietary needs and even religious needs! Our chefs are amazing. The food is really tasty. And there's a huge variety every day. Sometimes you might not like any of the new dishes, but there's always burgers and the tasty salad bar. Or cereal any time of the day. And the late night cookies are amazing! Tercero might be closer to campus, but if you're planning on driving to campus, this (or Cuarto) is the easiest. Park across the street, pay a freshman $5 (maximum) for a swipe to get in, and then it's all you can eat. And after you've finished gorging yourself on all the food, you can head over to the ARC and burn some calories. Only kidding. But it is that close! Some people say that they get tired of it, but the food is healthy and delicious! I actually lost 10 pounds my freshman year eating here and enjoyed it. The Segundo Dining Commons staff was uber accommodating to a gluten free diet request on absolutely no advanced notice. Within 15 minutes they made a gf pizza, provided a menu of options for the evening meal and presented a tray of gf pastries to choose from. They have a special gf mini frig stocked with gf bread and a dedicated toaster for just gf bread. Everyone working at the Commons is amazingly friendly, helpful, and cheerful. The food is average college fare with a fairly decent selection to choose from. All the menu items are labeled clearly for vegan, vegetarian, gluten, soy, nuts, dairy, etc. Could totally live off just the salad bar offerings for some time. read more

I'm a parent of a student. We came to move my son into the dorms and ate in the dining commons. Wow! Dining commons are much better than when I went to college! I couldn't believe the selection. Everything was outstanding! The fruit was super fresh too. The grapes were still attached to the vines, which were extremely green (as opposed to being dark brown, dried out, and shriveled). It looks like they were picked earlier that morning. The desserts were amazing too. read more

Segundo in my opinion is the healthiest DC! They have a huuuge salad bar and two stations to grab healthy options (both by the Mongolian BBQ) I go here for mostly salad. Might not be the best for late night though. Go to Cuarto for that. read more

I lived in Segundo last year and so I went here all the time last year. I've only been here a few times this year, but not too much has changed. In terms of variety, it's hard to complain about the accommodations they make: Vegan, vegetarian, etc. The ingredients are also listed. The food quality varies from day to day, as does the menu (for lunch and dinner, really). I know a lot of students complain about it, but I almost always liked at least something that they had to serve. With the fact that it's an all-you-can eat, it's hard not to find something likeable. Breakfast is not usually worth it (unless you really like breakfast like I do), as the items do not vary much and there is less to be had. Lunch is a mixed bag, and I liked dinner quite a lot. Late Night seems to be popular, but I was neutral towards it. The customer service is usually not too bad. It's a hassle if you aren't a student here, both price-wise and for convenience, as few people pay in any form besides their student ID, so it's usually a surprise. Event nights can have great food, but the lines usually get ridiculous and so I would recommend coming really early. It should be better this year as the high-rises in Segundo are currently under construction, and with the new DC at Cuarto and new dorms at Tercero, there are typically fewer people at Segundo now. read more

Deducted one star because the vanilla soft serve was terrible. Other than that, this all you can eat dining commons is probably the best kept secret in Davis. Arrive early for best selections since they do run out of certain dishes or deserts. As a bonus, it was definitely an eye opener to see so many hot looking people here. Eh, I was never a fan of school "cafeteria food" and avoided it for as long as I could remember. From middle school to high school, I've never touched cafeteria food and was spoiled by my mommy's awesome cooking/lunch packing and throughout college, I've managed to cook for myself or eat out. The one time I was dragged here, the food actually wasn't too bad for school food. I mean, it isn't really worth the money in terms of the quality and taste of the food, but it's definitely not as horrible as I thought it would be. However, this is only a one time deal for me and I would never go out of my way to try and eat at Segundo, but for those of you that are considering stepping foot into a DC on campus, Segundo is probably one of the better ones. read more

Very few and poor gluten free options and cannot even seem to keep gluten free bread available consistently. As someone who is allergic to gluten there is literally nothing to eat. read more

Theme nights are simply the best. I enjoy their sautéed vegetables with rice. I really like their vegan options, even though i'm not vegan, but it just tastes so good. There are always samples to try to see if you like the food or not. If you want less, you can tell them too. Everyone is friendly. Weekends and breakfasts they have eggs to order, which is awesome. read more

I'm a student at UCD, so I eat here pretty often. You never really know what you're going to get when you come. At certain times it's so crowded you can barely find a place to sit, and lines for meals are long during these periods; however, if you come earlier you can breeze through with no problem. Your experience is entirely dependent on your meal preferences and whether or not they're serving something tasty. 3 stars for inconsistency and general food quality. read more

Recently, and for the third year in a row, we took a large group (188) of 8th graders from Southern California to UC Davis for a campus tour and dinner. The entire experience was A+! The students had a delightful time gawking at the hundreds of bicycle riders (and felt they were in the middle of a "frogger" video game). The campus was beautiful and the Student Store, under renovation but still easily accessible, combined with the ARC and short Q&A sessions with the guides and university students along the way made for a wonderful time. Dinner at Segundo Dining Commons was perfect for the students. The greeter at the entrance along with the rest of the staff made the students feel very welcomed. Terrific food with an amazing variety suitable for every taste bud gave the students and chaperones a delightful experience. We look forward to next year's trip. read more

I go here expecting a decent meal. What do I get? A broken ice cream machine, lack of dishes with actual meat, and burgers that are obviously frozen and dry and tasteless once cooked. There are no chicken sandwiches either which just makes me wanna go back to my anorexic diet altogether. WHYY read more

Honestly the Dc needs to step up its game, why is the frozen yogurt always broken and who decided to take away the sprinkles?? I think a lot of people feel very strongly towards this and you guys need to work on it. Please fix it by tomorrow thanks :) read more

Segundo DC was pretty okay at first but the frozen yogurt machine is nearly always broken and no one ever fixes it. Staffs are mostly friendly except for the short, blonde, old lady with glasses who always work cashier. She nearly always has a really bad attitude and needs to keep it in check if she's going to be the first thing people see before entering the D.C. read more

I've been eating at the same place for three years now, and in no way is that depressing. The food just gets better every single year, I absolutely DIG IT. Don't be stupid and try eating out in Davis down town, GO TO THE SEGUNDO DINING COMMONS, IT'S THE BOMB! OH, don't even get me started about their theme nights. DELICIOUS. Make sure you try their breakfast.... actually try their lunch and dinner also... and late night! I LOVE IT. read more
