Over $36k spent for 7 years of loyalty--ended in rats and zero empathy. I have been a loyal customer here for over 7 years, paying $430/month for a 10x20 unit. When I first signed up, I was assured my belongings would be safe. I just emptied my unit and discovered a total nightmare: rat droppings, urine, and two dead rats inside. My children's childhood items are ruined. When I showed the damage to the staff (Josue and Cynthia), they were completely unconcerned. Josue even told me the mandatory insurance I pay every month wouldn't cover it. The facility has gaps in the ceiling and floor that they tried to 'fix' with cheap spray foam. They have bait boxes outside, so they clearly know they have an infestation, yet they do nothing to protect the units. I would not recommend this facility to anyone. Leaf blowers likely push dust and debris into the storage units--cover your belongings with plastic. More concerning, however, is the unprofessional management. After my mother's passing, her storage units were transferred to me. Despite providing all required documents and being told I could access the units before the 40-day lockout, I was later locked out and hit with late fees due to conflicting due dates given by staff. Daniel, the manager, was especially rude and dismissive. I was never given a lease or rule sheet, yet he scolded me for not knowing the rules and invented a "2-hours-before-closing" rule just for me. When I was accidentally locked in after 8 p.m. (no one warned me of the closing time), Daniel responded with sarcasm and zero empathy. The next day, he revoked my access entirely and didn't even have the decency to speak to me himself--he made staff deliver the message. This facility lacks compassion, especially when dealing with a grieving family member. They can and should do better. read more

I wish I had a better review, honestly. Posting was difficult but I would want to know if this is happening at a place. I started out here years ago, went fine for a while, then more strict rules. It's not in a safe area. Okay, still fine, it's for our safety or other reasons. But from last year & on, staff was being rude & unprofessional sometimes. Then it became all the time. Upset for mechanical problems, which was out of my control. & if I forgot a specific rule, with no harm done, they became even more rude. I could not apologize enough and of course tried not to forget. I was constantly sent advertising and review requests with the assurance I would be sent or credited $15 for each review (only one post a month was allowed) but nothing. After 3, I said ok it's a scam. Okay, sucks it couldn't happen. I recently left because I couldn't take it:/ especially the level of unprofessionalism from the only older male there. They required me to come into the office, not to sign anything, not to do anything at all. Honestly, I was terrified:/ said, okay I'll pass by after sweeping unit. I requested proof I had closed off account, or anything to just have proof so I can show something in case he wanted to do something like retaliate. He said he would charge me...? "It's the system" he said..? The gentleman did not hold off being extra rude & unprofessional, even though I was leaving and not returning. I cannot not recommend to any friends, family, co-workers like I use to initially. I'm sorry. I haven't received my closing receipt email, even though he assured me he would send it. I think I'll have more issues with this place n be forced to report it :/ ! New update: no receipt yet but I got a review request:/ I had forgotten to say, I was required to let him in my storage w/in 2 days or he'd cut off my lock.. I travelled out of county. Our entire household goods was infested with mice while our things sat in 11.5 months of storage here. The mice destroyed countless items. The storage company's insurance company will only provide $400 of coverage for mice infestation and damage. We have already spent thousands of dollars replacing items that were damaged, chewed up, peed on, and covered in mouse droppings. Avoid this place at all cost to preserve your things. The mice also destroyed things that can't be replaced - like my daughter's flower girl bouquet that was in her memory box. They chewed through the box, ate all the flowers, and peed and pooped all over her baby book that was also in the box. Such a nightmare. read more

One star is for the people in the office, they were always nice, but this storage is absolutely horrible, do not rent there unless you want mice and rats pooping on all your stuff, 70% of our stuff in the locker was ruined and had to be taken to the dump and thrown away, and when we told the office they didn't seem to care about it much. We had priceless things from loved ones that are no longer with us that were completely destroyed from mice and rat feces. Do not rent there!!! Beware!!! And just to clarify Brett, there was no food or liquid or anything eatable or perishable. of any kind in the locker we rented, that is an easy assumption on your part to save face for your business, but that facility is near fields and isn't a shock that it had rodents, but was a shock that the rodents completely destroyed our property. Proceed with caution. Can't recommend this business. Recently, an issue of theft happened and just doesn't seem secure anymore. Insurance is part of the payment, but don't expect to be able to use it. My mom was paying for a storage for about half a year and she finally started to move all her things and it was HEAVILY INFESTED WITH RATS!!!! The manager of the property told her to wash her wooden cabinets with soap and water to clean all the dead rats and poop. Avoid this spot at all cost if you don't want your things full of rats. Risk covid19 ...i move and sell stuff for garage sales and help out the community children with free bikes that I repair . Since day 1 this place has treated me badly 1st no light in my hallway for 5 months . Until I demanded it 10 times ...Just till now got lights on, that turn off every 30 seconds .smells awful like old wet towels. Urine stains down all the driveways the manager daniel will lock you inside the storage and block access to get out front gate if you are there for more then a hour ,most places have someone available 24,hrs on site just in case somebody breaks in . Or customer gets locked in .. the first time it happen I just left car and call Uber to take me to work , the second time they locked me in I lost my job because of this .. I wish nothing for the best for these people .. I have 4 friend s that got covid going to this place only ..they clean but only sweeping does not kill anything..they don't clean the code pad or shared hallways dirty ropes .. ever .. sorry but we must get through these times together .. thank you read more

In response to security public storage stating they have certain promotions that run from time to time and only qualify for a certain time frame: Once again, no where does this state the "limitations" or "time frame" with the exception it does specify for new accounts only. I have been a hospital employee for 15+ years and all other promotions for local businesses are very specific to their offers. And at the very least oblige to what the "offer" states. Not only was Daniel rude to me when I showed him the printed promotion posted by my employer he then stated our human resource office has the information incorrect. When I asked to speak with the manager regarding this issue Danielle acknowledged he was the manager and I had to only speak with him, he was very unprofessional and short with me. It was clearly obvious he had upset me and his demeanor was not professional until my husband came inside his tone then changed. My husband politely asked him to call our employer and have them change the flier stated promotion if in fact that's not how it should read. Danielle said he will do so immediately and made it clear that it only applies to large units over $200/month and only units that have more than one available (not any that are the last of that particular size). Well we kept our unit for more than a few months and weekly I checked our human resource page to see if an updated "promotion" was filed....well here it is more than six months since the incident and nothing has been changed/altered or amended. Yet again another poor business move on security public storage behalf. Not only have they left a poor taste in my opinion due to their customer service or shall I say lack there of. They also are not customer friendly on privacy. I had a family member paying for a unit not in their name, however with the same last name as mine...Danielle asked if they were related to me, this person replied "yes, how do you know her" (expecting it to be maybe from the hospital) his response "oh I know her from here...." Wether it was out of curiosity to see their response or to shame them for having the same last name as me. My family member said once she identified her relation to me his attitude was not very friendly. At this time she had no idea what had transpired between myself and the company. It wasn't until she came to me with this person named Danielle asking about my relation to her and how he changed his demeanor once finding out our relation did I tell her possibly why he treated her the way he did. Which is no excuse! Business is business, and regardless how I feel his professionalism should remain at all times (as long as he's dealing as "management" and representing the company). So for future tenants, if you are looking for a company that respects your privacy be forewarned that Security Public Storage in Salinas does not. read more
