Extremely unprofessional business, poor experience attempting to coordinate a one item transport. Initially Tavares was responsive and had a competitive rate to transport a table for me. Went to great lengths and expense coordinating pickup with another party and Tavares. As the pickup/drop off date got closer I hadn't heard anything from Tavares. I began to send messages through yelp, via text, then finally called leaving multiple voicemails. I have not received a response after 3 days contacting them. On my first call, the phone rang like normal. After that every time I called it went straight to voicemail, I believe they blocked my number. If you changed your mind or something came up and you can no longer do a job, just let your customer know. Don't leave them in the dark and block their number. read more

Absolutely the WORST nightmare of a moving experience ever. DO NOT HIRE THIS MAN UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. I saw the 4.5 star review and read the first several reviews and thought this would be a good company to hire. I sure wish I had dug much deeper into the 1-star reviews, but I was in a hurry, with this part of the move being only part 1 of a massive international move. Please read those reviews...they expose the real Eddie Tavares. He is a rude, bullying, disgusting misogynistic pig who doesn't give a crap about your belongings. He complained to me about his previous clients...the ones here on Yelp who wrote the bad reviews, laughing at how ridiculous he thought they were. We had gone over everything in a walk-through weeks prior to the move, and we talked about the delicate antiques that needed to be carefully handed, and we talked about the delicate dishes and how I trust professional movers to know how to pack those things correctly. He threw blankets only partially around the furniture, leaving the rest exposed. Didn't protect the legs or feet or even the sides of the antiques. They broke my antique mirror that was nearly 200 years old and part of my beloved dresser I've had since I was a kid. THEN, HE HAD THE GALL TO SAY MY SISTER DID IT! He complained the whole time about customers, about having to pack my delicate things, and he talked to me with his nose almost touching my nose in a super loud voice and I could smell his stinky breath on my face. He made inappropriate comments. Then, when I was totally exhausted and he knew it, he told me where to sign his contract as he was leaving and said I didn't need any "additional insurance" - which I thought meant I was fully covered by the standard insurance...like when you rent a car. But no, he knew he did a crap job and didn't want to be responsible for it, so he had checked the box valuing fine china and antiques at 60 cents per pound. Yes, they should have been sent away...but what can you do when you have your worldly possessions partially packed into a truck and you have to be out because the new renters are coming in? You can't do anything, you are just screwed. This guy should be behind bars. read more

I have used this company on multiple occasions and let me say they do live up to their five star rating. Yesterday my daughter was moving from her apartment in North Salinas to a house in East Garrison (Marina). I spoke to Eddie a couple months ago and asked him if this was an open day for him. Fortunately it was. I also asked him if he would show up at my house first, on the south side of Salinas, to pack up furniture we purchased for my daughters' family. He said no problem. They were supposed to be here at 8:30 but they showed up at 8:27 sharp. Eddie and three of his guys swept up the stuff at my house and then proceeded to my daughters house on the northside. She lives in an apartment that has at least 20 concrete stairs going up to the second floor. They arrived, set up, and had the whole two bedroom apartment loaded up before 10 o'clock. Once they arrived at her new place Eddie and his team had their doors open, their arms lifting and their legs walking. Nobody missed a beat. They were done and ready to leave by 1130. The most important thing is that they handled the move in with the same care as they did the move out. They laid down blankets, they covered furniture, televisions and bannisters. Precision and professionalism are their trademark. Eddie has assembled a team of men that not only enjoy working for him but they love him. This truly is a family ran business with an established legacy for the name Tavares that is respected not just in our community but also nation wide. Eddie and his crew were awesome! He was affordable, super fast, friendly, and flexible. My move got complicated at the last minute because the truck with the u-haul crates couldn't fit in the tiny driveway of my apartment complex. He adapted and loaded all my belongings on his smaller truck, took everything to uhaul and reloaded everything into the uhaul crates. I was so grateful for his ability to work with a last minute change like that when most would probably have given up and left me high and dry. Eddie and his crew were AWESOME!! We were loaded and on the road in less than 2 hours! I was a bit last minute, only a week out, but Eddie was wonderful to accommodate me. I moved 3 hours away and into a second floor unit with only stairs, in 90 degree weather. Not once did they complain and I could only wish I could move that quickly up stairs while carrying heavy items lol. It only took them 2 hours to unload and that included a little bit of a breather for a break. Nothing broken, damaged, or missing. I couldn't t be happier with a moving company. I grew up a military brat that moved every 2 years. I don't remember ever being impressed with the movers and I had heard horror stories about reckless movers that either lost or damaged many items. The Tavares Guys will not disappoint you! I own a barbershop and needed to move our heavy barber chairs and equipment from our second story location. Our elevator was broken and they had to maneuver around a flight of stairs with our antique chairs. These guys showed up on time, ready to get working. They had us set up in our new location in just a few hours! I know it was hard work but they worked hard and never complained. The opener Manny and his son, Kevin, we hilarious and professional. Hired Taveres to do a move and storage of fine furniture during construction based on a contractors recommendation and 5 star reviews. The disrespect, damage and loss that was caused goes beyond words. Both owner and his son have a laissez-faire attitude about customer service and are not responsive to any communication. Go visit their facility before you engage them in a move or storage, you will definitely reconsider. It appears that their five star reviews are based on them shutting down their G-suite account every few months because of one star reviews that they are worthy of and starting again. These are really bad actors in the moving and storage business, there are much better choices out there. read more

I used Tavares Packing & Loading to move some heavy exercise equipment from upstairs to downstairs. My experience was awesome from the minute I called and spoke with Eddie the owner. Very pleasant and easy to work with. The guys called an hour before they said they would be here and said they were on their way. They showed up right on time and were amazing. Some of the equipment needed to be dis-assembled to move down my switch-back stairs. They brought it all down without touching a wall and even re-assembled the equipment and checked to make sure it was working properly. They were super nice, polite and very careful of my house. The good news? they showed up and moved me back to Monterey from the Olympic Peninsula. The bad news?, undoubtedly the worst mover I've ever used. The load-in was okay; the load-out was a complete nightmare. Owner, Eddie Tavares, was rude, bullying and misogynistic in his inappropriate comments to me about me and my belongings. The only person who was professional and courteous was his son, who was actually pretty great. Eddie also wouldn't listen to me and ended up making extra work for his crew. The worst part?, he hired too many young kids who had no respect or care for my belongings. I ended up with many dings, nicks and scratches on irreplaceable, antique furniture. My advice?, if you just need crappy stuff moved this company is fine. If, however, you own anything of value I would not recommend them. One star is too much for my experience with Tavares. I booked them for a small move across town, and on the morning of the move, they didn't show up. I texted, called and left messages, but received zero response. I would expect that if a company had a scheduling error that they would respond to let me know that, but I got nothing. Consequently, I didn't know how long to wait before trying to find another company or just leaving and trying to do it myself (which is what I ended up having to do). When I reached out to other companies to see if they had availability to help, they were equally shocked at the lack of professional etiquette, and two did everything they could to try to find someone for me, but ultimately didn't have the manpower. I would not trust this company with your move, especially if you are on a time deadline. If they no-show on you, you might be stuck renting a U-Haul and doing it yourself. read more

This is an amazing family owned and worked moving/loading company and more importantly fun and caring individuals. In my mid 40s, this is the first time in my many, many moves that I have contracted with professionals to help load up the moving truck. No going back now. Eddie, Kevin & the rest of the crew were light-hearted, joked around with us, empathetic with our current difficulties, and felt like long-lost cousins. They were amazingly fast while being careful and packed our truck to the last square inch securely like a 5000 piece jigsaw puzzle without a piece missing. That is the introduction. Despite reserving a truck with U-haul one month in advance for the two days before the lease ran out on our apartment, 3:00 the day before we were moving, I got a nonchalant call from U-haul saying that there were no trucks of any size within 150 miles. After searching all truck rental companies, I located one truck with a diff company and reserved it for the next morning (the only one available for 150 miles); Kevin Tavares and crew showed up at the appointed time ready to go to it....but, when I showed up to p/u the 2nd truck from the 2nd company...no truck. When I spoke with Eddie, instead of being like, "too bad, not our fault, give me the money and see ya" he was understanding and agreed to come out the next day if I could get a truck. With a miracle and help from family, we got a truck from the area were moving to (300+ miles). Tavares came out on Sunday, something that Eddies sons told me he very, very rarely does. Although contracted for two workers, a crew of 5 came out at no extra charge. When I asked Eddie why he made an exception for us, he said, "I believe in God and God told me to." I had scheduled them to come, but when they arrived they did not have packing material to pack my stuff up. They were not willing to go get packing supplies and come back to move me out same day. At this point they left, basically ditching me. So now i had to reschedule everything related to moving after thinking it was going to be done today. Note: they did not respond to my texts asking them to get packing supplies and come back. Wish i could give zero stars and left me very disappointed Edit: in response to their response, they basically left and were trying to get me to go with someone else. All i told them was that i need someone to move my shit, and they showed up without clarifying weither or not they were going to need packing supplies. I'd use them again in spite of a glitch: I set up this move for my friend moving from Salinas to San Jose in a bit of a hurry. Eddie answered the phone right away. The price was GREAT even at a time of high demand for a mover. I got mixed up about the moving date, and I am very glad that Eddie took the time to repeatedly call us both to confirm the time and date of the reservation. Everything was good, the move was right on time, smooth, until we realized they didn't drop off one essential item to the new home (it was not a lot of stuff!!!). It took a few calls and texts to relocate the item. I had to send someone to go and pick it up from them in Salinas; there was no offer to get it to my friend in San Jose. When my Salinas friend arrived, the gate was locked and no one was there. After a lot of texts and angst, FINALLY he agreed to deliver it to the location in Salinas. It doesn't do my friend any good in San Jose. I like to give great reviews. This was the only disappointment in the entire moving operation. WHAT IS THE ESSENTIAL ITEM? you might ask. It is a very pricey espresso machine! If you are addicted to caffeine, and you gotta have your coffee JUST SO, you can empathize, I'm sure. I feel that if this were a GREAT business, he would have mailed it up to San Jose PRONTO.
