Stay away from this storage facility. I have been a renter at this facility for awhile and previous managers were respectful, discreet and professional. Since I began renting there, I thought the place was clean, had adequate resources like carts and bathrooms that were easily accessible and the elevators, doors, gates and floors were maintained. The latest managers (I think they are a married couple?) operating the place have reversed all of this. The place is no longer clean, with random garbage strewn about the halls, inside the elevators. A couple of doors would not close, carts are not available (what happened to them??) and on more than a couple of occasions, the elevators in the different units did not function. The thing that is a current frustration with the tenants is that since the new managers got on board approximately two years ago, the rents have steadily increased with no clear and reasonable explanation. When pressed for an explanation about the sudden increases, the woman could not explain why exactly the rents went from and additional $5 a month to $10 a month other than the main company decided to do it this way and it had something to do with switching to another insurance provider (?). Of the two, the woman seems to be the most pleasant, although, to me, she seemed ignorant of the company's policies or equivocated responses to everything that I asked. In any case, I don't trust her and she has told me things that were not accurate or worse, led me down a bureaucratic rabbit hole by referring me to a main company phone number that only takes voice mail and never responds. It's as if Security Public Storage doesn't care or are doing this on purpose. The man who manages this place, presumably her husband, is simply difficult to talk to. Everytime I tried to talk on the phone with this guy, he seemed like he was having a bad day and made it seem like I had a problem when I asked about why the rents have gone up and why the physical plant was so dirty all the time. He is dismissive and, well, I just stopped trying to talk to him. The positive reviews for this site is the result of an enticement that the facility gives renters. If you leave a positive Yelp review, and prove your posting, then you get a rebate on your next month's rent. At times, it has been $10 off to $15 off next rent. If you skim through the bevy of reviews of this site you will note primarily 5 stars and 1 stars with few in between. This is the effect of the rebate. The one star reviews are harsh but are clear examples of the callousness of this storage facility and the property managers. I get the feeling, that they are trying to pressure renters to leave. For example, quick math for these increases (remember, they are a monthly charge that compounds the cost of your rent) is a 30% increase over two years. For example, if your rent was $150 a month, it is $1800/yr. A 30% increase means that you are now paying $2400/yr. That's a $600 increase in rent over two years. The rental facility will tell you that it's well within their right to do the rent increases and the adjusted rental agreements sent yearly that renters are compelled to sign, contain clauses that say rents can be raised at anytime without explanation. And you have to agree to this contract if you want to keep your stuff stored there. I can say that the previous mangers only raised the rents ONCE a year. Since this couple took over the rents have gone up EVERY 6 MONTHS and at a higher rate each time ($10 increase in 'insurance' instead of '$5' as with the previous two managers). I don't like the new management. I think they are there to enforce these 'low-level eviction policy' to remove older, long-standing tenants so that they can rent the place at a higher rate. It's a pernicious policy and is making it harder for renters to use that service. I am surprised that at this point, complaints to legal authorities haven't been filed yet for the property, specifically in the rent increases which are usurious. I won't be surprised if something like this doesn't happen soon. In any case, I continue renting there because it is located within a few miles of my place. However, I am looking for another facility with a lower price and with a better reputation. This place is going down fast. This is too bad, because it was at one time a really nice place. Maybe I'm lucky enough to get out of there quickly before the Richmond law enforcement shuts them down. In any case, new renters, heed this review. Check out as many places as you can and read the Yelp on them before you do business them. But, stay away from this place. read more

I've looked at various storage facilities around San Pablo and Richmond and I can definitely confirm that is the best you can find. Their prices are reasonable, the storage units are spacious, the facility is kept clean, it is nicely secured (automated fences, good lighting, multiple video cameras, on-site manager), and the customer service is outstanding. The items I needed to store couldn't be exposed to hot temperatures so the lady (I forgot her name unfortunately) offered to give me a storage unit located at the coldest part of the facility. This totally made up for the fact that they don't have temperature controlled units. I really appreciated that they did this for me because I really didn't feel like paying extra at a facility that has air-conditioned units. And it doesn't hurt that the facility is very close to my house. Why do I consider them to be the best storage facility you can find? It's because I feel like I can trust them to keep my belongings safe which is the single most important thing for me. So, yes I would highly recommend them. :) read more

Stopped at the Publix stores today I had the privilege of meeting Jordan and Melissa the new on-site managers and also the training administrator Liz. Not a bad place, I feel pretty safe and my stuff as well. Have live in workers onsite so that's pretty cool. Price are OK and are willing to work with you. I just recently had to rent a storage. This process of moving, trying to sell a house, finding a place to live all this has been very difficult. Renting a storage was the only thing that was easy and no hassle which means a lot when everything else has been a nitmare. Renee and Felix are wonderful and I heard Steve is wonderful too. I would definitely recommend this storage facility to anyone looking for an affordable secure storage unit in the San Pablo/ Richmond/ Hercules area! After checking out 5-6 facilities in the area I found out Public Security Storage had the lowest prices and great all around deals for all unit sizes. They had a lot of availability and the process was extremely fast and easy. Another reason I would definitely recommend them is because of their great staff and customer service. A great place for storage if you are in the Richmond area. The facility is very secure and since it is a rather new facility, it has the latest in design and security technology. I have used the facility for a number of years. The managers are friendly, know what they are doing, offer a personal touch, and generally seem to look out for you. The present managers are the best so far. Throughout the years, I have used many storage facilities and this is the best I have found. Restrooms are available and clean. The site is well maintained and pleasant. A general flow of customers give 'life' to the place. (this is important because some storage places are a little isolated). read more
