The PS business model is predatory and shameless. Within weeks of moving in, they began raising rents. Less than a year after leasing a storage unit, my monthly rent has almost doubled. They exploit the fact that moving is expensive and inconvenient. The roll up door to my unit is extremely difficult to operate and management does not respond to my pleas to repair. My rent has gone from $211 to $412 for a 9x10 in three years. Called to try to get it lowered and they declined. Same unit is listed for $227 on their website. Will 100% never use this company again. I LOVE Public Storage and highly recommend the location on Pierce St. in Richmond, CA. Luciana is amazing! She is very knowledgeable, professional, and provides great customer service. Luciana is also very responsive, it made my updated reservation and check-in process easier. I am a return customer. I've rented units here twice before and currently. The units can accommodate a variety of needs. I currently have a 9x10 unit, but I've rented the smaller units as well. This property is close to the 80/580 freeways, but also accessible by public transit (AC Transit bus and the nearest BART is El Cerrito Plaza). This property is also well-maintained and clean. I have never experienced any issues at this Public Storage with theft or damage to property of any sort, not even pests or rodents. If you are looking for storage, I highly recommend choosing this location. read more

The person's name helping everyone is Constance or Connie (apologies if I missed spell her name) at the time of my arrival business seems calm and firm, but few minutes later, like everything else things change in a second. She got very busy, people coming in and out. But, one thing I have to say about Connie, she maintain her spirit, smile, attitude, politeness among other things, and specially her professionalism. The rates are too high they go up on the rates too often and when your in a hardship they dont help you at all actually they make matters worse. The customer services at my location on Carlson Blvd has been horrible when you go to pay your bill NO ONE IS EVER THERE. PUBLIC STORAGE has no rent control!!! Our family's unit was robbed due to this Public Storage site's gross incompetence and lack of proper security. Many of the employees are unnecessarily rude and unable to appropriately address basic concerns. The rent is too frequently raised. And the filthy units aren't worth the high price. My unit had black mold growing on the unfinished wood walls when I first moved in. If I hadn't needed to rent storage space in such a hurry, I'd never have moved my things in here. It's just an awful experience. We'll never do business with Public Storage again. I notified the employees about the mold and they said nothing could be done. Not ok. They could've offered me another unit (if they have any clean ones?) and/or to repair my unit. I didn't have the time or space to move our things home/elsewhere for a long time and in the meantime, the mold damaged my property. Getting the employees to help me properly document the break-in was a NIGHTMARE. Our unit was robbed due to the site's failure to fix doors and locks that lead to the upstairs storage units. But the employees showed no concern or remorse. To the contrary, I was blamed for putting items of personal value in my unit! The employees said if I didn't want to risk being robbed, that I shouldn't have put things in my unit. This is absurd. People pay for storage units so they can store things in them. Public Storage is supposed to provide a service to safely store people's property. If Public Storage cannot fulfill its duties to protect their customers' stuff, then the business they run is irrelevant. Both the regional manager and the manager of the 3230 Pierce site were rude and showed a lack of integrity when dealing with my issue. In particular, the regional manager stated he hadn't been present at times during which protocol calls for his presence onsite, which conveniently allowed him to deny any responsibility for certain security failures but which also proved him to be unprofessional about performing his job duties. Their refusal to be accountable for the failings of their site and their employees was appalling. They will say and do anything to avoid responsibility. Other customers of this site told me that they'd had similar issues. Some thought that the supposed security camera and other security "failures", and Public Storage's uncooperative response meant at least some burglaries may be an inside job. I don't want to think that any of the employees would be involved in theft, but I thought it said a lot about this site's bad customer service and frequent security issues that a few people felt the staff were that untrustworthy. It's unsafe. It's moldy. Many of the employees are unhelpful and negligent. Do NOT rent storage space here. read more

Storage units are good business. Especially when there are about 5 of them in this 2 mile radius. This has made packing up my stuff and storing it very easy. I did my research and their website www.publicstorage.com is a great resource. They have internet specials so check often. Within 20 minutes of reserving a space online, I was called by the staff at this location to confirm. They honored their price - the deal they've had for years is 1st month free. Add on a $20 administrative fee. Sign up at the office was easy ... much easier than what I'd remembered. No combination locks. read more

The month to month lease may be a problem. Our fees were raised 17% after just 3 months! My unit is on the second floor and the elevator was not functioning for over a month. With the exorbitant rents they charge, you'd think they could afford to fix the elevator right away. Also, the buttons on the entry and exit keypads (where you get drenched when it's raining) barely work. Use a metal object to push the buttons; it's difficult to make the buttons work with mere finger pressure. I added one star for the convenience of their location (at least for me). Their auto billing seems to work okay, although the online account history is all screwed up. It doesn't show all the charges and even has someone else's credit card listed on some of the payments. Check your own credit card or bank statements to make sure you are being charged correctly. read more

$1 DOES NOT PAY YOUR FIRST MONTH! You will end up paying at least $150 for the 5x5 unit (which is the smallest they got). They will charge you $25 initiation fee, $25 for the lock AND you will find out that insurance is required starting at $15/month. Terrible customer experience. We were charged more than twice as much oF what we were told upfront, the $90 estimate got bumped up to $165. The business does not have a manager on duty, I called the hotline and was told that according to their marketing policy, the attendant is NOT ALLOWED TO TELL CUSTOMERS ABOUT ALL CHARGES AT THE TIME OF RESERVATION, IT'S AGAIST THEIR POLICY. How silly is that? The property has a huge sign with $1 promotion. I asked the attendant about this false advertising, to which she replied that SHE DOES NOT HAVE A SCREWDRIVER TO TAKE IT OFF. Really? I highly recommend everyone not to do ANY business with this company, unless you like being treated like shit. This was the worst customer experience I've had in my life. Public Storage is the company without people or customer's experience in mind. I'm not sure why a business with such a scummy model exists. Expect to pay at least 30% more than what they tell you upfront. Don't believe any of their promotions as it would probably be active only at their selected location on Uranus. Plus read the Wikipedia page about the company and you'll probably be surprised that Walmart perhaps is more adequate and humanly than PB. We received great assistance at this location of Public storage! The lady who helped us (Ariana) was very polite and friendly despite my mom's many questions. She estimated the type of space we needed, and then walked us to the storage space and finished up with clear cut paper work and directions of entrance and exiting the property. The bad: Not really anything to complain about...the rates are a little higher than I expected (total was about $120 for a space, mattress wrapper, insurance, and etc.) but I'm guessing that's standard for the bay area. The good: Everyone was very polite and professional, and it was a very painless process. Plus this side of the freeway seems just a tad bit safer (there is another Public Storage located on the other side) and is conveniently neighboring a 99 ranch and gas station. I hope the rest of our experience is as positive as how it started. If you're a college grad or young professional looking to store stuff, this location is a good choice. read more

Well, I am starting to NOT like this place ..or the company in general.. These people are coming after my hubby and I for money that we DID send in by internet..if it's NOT in their "till" we are in "trouble"! We sent it in the day before, by the internet.. or a few days before.. because they said they were missing about six bucks... called them tonight..and they are STILL saying that we never paid them! That's NOT true!!! I like the storage..and so far they have done a great job.. but, I am NOT happy that they have been hiking up the storage fees more often..(that's bad for the customer service.. as I view this)!! I feel like they don't care about the customers anymore.. they only care about what is going into THEIR pockets! I realize it's a business.. but, this is just really bad customer service.. as I see it!! I wish that they would stop raising the rent..sooo often!! This is getting truly obnoxious!!! It was NOT like this with my old company.. I used to have at the same place..and then they changed names/companies!! How annoying and awful at the same time!! This place just raises the amount any old time they feel like it.. I honestly believe that is why my parents and a few other people are getting OUT of the clutches of this storage company!! I would rather find a better company... one that does NOT harass you over a few measly dollars that you paid online to their site but, had not gone thru to their web page yet!! All of the qualities that someone dealing with the public, should have. I do not recommend you store your items here. Last month there was a break-in. 6 units were broken into and items were stolen from each unit. I lost several thousands of dollars worth of computer equipment. I was told by the manager there that the facility had certain facility failures that could have assisted with the break-in, "but these problems have been fixed." My storage unit was on the third floor. Some of these problems included exit doors that didn't lock automatically behind them, an elevator that allowed passcard holdersto enter onto any floor instead of just their own, and a failure of their computer system to accurately track times and dates of who was opening and closing their storage facility. The management suspected an inside job, whereby an existing customer did the break-in, but due to these systemic failures they were unable to identify the thief. Allegedly, these failures have been fixed. But I am still out my equipment. I filed a police report. I tried speaking to Public Storage about reducing my rent from $159/month for my 10x10 space to at least $121/month which was their market rate that they were advertising on their website for this space. They bounced me back and forth between corporate and the regional manager. The regional manager never returned my calls. I tried calling him four times and finally reached him in person. He said he would "send an email to corporate to request a rate reduction." He said he would call me back when he heard back from them. It has been several weeks. Have I heard back from him? No! What I did receive was an INCREASE in my bill from $159 to $175 per month for my 10x10 space. Hence, I am writing this review on Yelp! as a warning to anyone that is considering renting here. My plan is to move out of this space as quickly as possible. There are cheaper rates elsewhere and facilities that are more secure. The fact that my rate was raised--when I was requesting a decrease--adds insult to injury. The regional manager is unresponsive. So if you are planning to rent a public storage space in Alameda County, please be aware as you will have to deal with him. read more

I have constantly been helped and received friendly reminders for payment BEFORE I accrued late fees (huge in my book). I had a bad experience with their corporate office. A family member passed away and we needed to gain access to the storage unit to clear his belongings. It's totally understandable that they made us jump through some hoops to prove we had right to access, but after jumping through their paperwork hoops and waiting weeks to get permission, while they kept telling me they were waiting to hear back from their Legal Dept. - tutns out they lost it and we had to do it all over again! So, after being turned away at the Jacuzzi location (despite having a confirmed reservation), we got a 5 x 15 unit on the second floor. But wait.....the elevator is broken! We were told the repair guy would be there any minute. Fast forward 3 hours...no call and still no fixed elevator. My husband and I took the day off of work, loaded up the first of what would be many loads, only to waste the day waiting on the elevator repair. When what I reserved was s smaller, ground floor unit...which, had I gotten as confirmed, I would BE DONE!!! Completely frustrated!
