This is part of the aggressive "existing customer rate increases" strategy, where storage companies lure customers with low initial rates, then drastically hike prices once they know it's difficult to move out. Public Storage, in particular, seems to use this tactic to maximize profits, misleading customers into thinking they're getting a good deal. While the unit itself is clean, the building's security is a major issue--the door has been broken for months and can't be locked, leaving my belongings vulnerable. I'm disappointed by both the price hike and the ongoing security problems. I know if I do not move out, they are going to more than double my rent again by the end of the year... assuming my belongings aren't stolen first.

The person working the storage property reassured me that it would be cleaned. The price was good but I didn't feel comfortable knowing my things would be in that filth. So my search continued for another storage place. That was when my search efforts took me to Berkeley Storage. Sure the fees are slightly higher but the facilities are clean, clean, clean. They are open 10am-5pm everyday. The office closes at about 4pm and the last hour Berkeley Storage is open there is an older man reminding people every 5 minutes to pack up and leave. He was a little annoying at first but now I'm used to it and I've even gotten used to him telling me to hurry when I have 15-30 minutes left before closing. Did i mention this spot is clean? Haha, that was a huge factor for me.
