I've been with Public Storage for less than six months, and already my rent has doubled from $68 to $137 per month. This is part of the aggressive "existing customer rate increases" strategy, where storage companies lure customers with low initial rates, then drastically hike prices once they know it's difficult to move out. Public Storage, in particular, seems to use this tactic to maximize profits, misleading customers into thinking they're getting a good deal. While the unit itself is clean, the building's security is a major issue--the door has been broken for months and can't be locked, leaving my belongings vulnerable. I'm disappointed by both the price hike and the ongoing security problems. I know if I do not move out, they are going to more than double my rent again by the end of the year... assuming my belongings aren't stolen first. read more

I reserved a storage space online at a discount of $1.00 for the first month. When I arrived I was shown the space I reserved. I thought that what chose was too big. I asked to see a couple of smaller ones after cancelling the one I reserved . I then decided to keep the one I cancelled. The employee was friendly, patient and knowledgeable. Her name is Joi. She made me feel like my business with the company mattered. I luv going to a business that makes their customers feel welcomed. That's important to me. A 6/29/2016 update on the review below, which mentioned three major break-ins that I knew about. Yesterday they were cleaning up after the FOURTH major break-in at this storage facility. As before, the thieves drove a vehicle across the railroad tracks, cut through the inadequate back fence, easily sliced through the locks on more than a dozen units and ransacked them. --------------------------------------------------- Unless you would be comfortable putting your stuff in an unlocked shed in a bad part of town, this facility is not for you. Just cut your losses right now and pile your stuff out on the curb instead. As others have noted, the staff is very nice. But the facility itself -- which must rake in well over half a million dollars a year -- has had multiple, serious break-ins and done nothing about it. At least three times that I know of, thieves have driven a vehicle up across the railroad tracks at the back of the facility, cut the fence, and then worked their way down a row, cutting locks with high-powered tools and stealing from multiple storage units. In the morning, Public Storage replaces the inadequate fence with another inadequate fence, the nice staff tries to push people's remaining possessions back into their units, someone offers you a free lock, and the cycle begins again. There are no security cameras. There are apparently no motion-activated lights. There is no perimeter alarm that sounds if the fence is breached. The individual units are not alarmed. There is no one staying in the unit where a live-in manager supposedly stays. There is no dog. And the back fence is a joke. When you rent your unit, by the way, someone will be happy to sell you a high-end lock for about fifty bucks -- and that lock will be cut like butter when the gang of thieves gets there. Management has been negligent in not even letting tenants know, by the way. You only find out when your unit gets broken into or when you run into someone else sifting through their stuff to see what's missing. Sometimes that's quite a community event, with several parked vehicles crowding the lanes. A mini-street fair of the worst kind. Lots of small-business owners use this place. They should beware. One local plumbing company told me they've been ripped off twice. I talked to a contractor who does small remodels whose equipment was all taken. After several break-ins about two weeks ago, I called the district manager to ask what measures they are taking to improve security. He left me a voicemail a few days later to say that someone at Public Storage is going to come by (this week, I think) to do a security assessment. Well, too late for some -- because last night the same thing happened. This time my unit was hit -- but, fortunately, I had gone to the trouble and expense several days ago of moving most of my stuff to Security Public Storage near Hilltop Mall. Security Public Storage is charging me about the same amount (10 percent more, actually, but for a bigger space). They have more than 30 cameras... when you key in at the security gate, the individual alarm on your particular unit is disarmed... the managers live right there... and they have software that shows at any given moment which units have their doors open, etc. Public Storage on Jacuzzi Street doesn't appear to even have a cheap camera you could buy online at Amazon that would capture a license plate number. Don't expect management that is going to work to create a good experience Had to be out by the 1st, my employee was hospitalized the day we needed to move out on the 30th. I personally went and got all of our stuff out by 9am on the 1st of the month and was then informed that I was contractually obligated to pay for the whole month. Someone from the district managers called me back and told me she would look into it. Instead of getting a call back I received a bill from collections for twice the amount. When the district managers rep finally called me back she was defensive and showed no sympathy that my bill had gone to collections despite the fact she said to wait for a call back from her. SInce 9/11, all storage facilities must have an onsite attendant during hours of operation...Thanks, Homeland Security!! What this means is that most 24 hour access storage facilities are a thing of a simpler, more innocent past, and, in fact, have very limited hours of accessibility. This particular instance of the Public Storage chain, which services 80 U.S. cities, is lucky enough to have E-Z highway access (just off the 80 East-Central Ave exit), Costco and Point Isabel Dog Park as it's neighbors, and Curtis Thomas as it's proprietor. Process was pretty fast I reserved online. Only had 1 small left and the building door I have to go thru is bent and hard to open and close. Which is not good my wrist is hurt and i mean you have to put a lot of strength in. However the area seem safe manager said no break ends since she been there 5 years. They say 1month for a $1 far from it. 25 administration fee and you must get insurance and if you need a lock you will come off around 68 which is not bad but they false advertising they for sure use to honor the 1$ a month back in the day. Great storage facility Shasta is very nice and keeps the place nice and clean and is extra helpful. I would definitely recommend the place.

First they charged me 250 but then I went to pay the next month and they charged my almost 500 dollars. Then when i went back during the same month the man charged me 100 dollars to get into my unit. I talked to a women named Shasta the next time I went and she fixed everything and I got my 100 dollars back because the man wasn't supposed to charger me. read more

Although the site manager was very nice, I was thoroughly disappointed in the service I received this morning. I had made a reservation online for a 5x10 space at ground level. I confirmed the reservation by phone a few days ago. I arrived at my appointment time and was told, despite my confirmed reservation, that a storage unit was not available. I love this storage facility. I'm a Realtor, and I've been recommending this particular PS location to my clients for years -- thanks to Curtis. He is smart, professional, and just knows how to take care of you. The basics of running a business properly are not that complicated, but these days, sadly, it is rarely to find somebody who actually cares about doing it right. This location is very convenient, generally clean, and with pretty good service - but if not for the outstanding service from their location manager Curtis, I would have given it 2-3 starts and moved long ago. You will occasionally be greeted at your unit by the smell of horse manure and sewage wafting through the air, (can't they fix this...gross) but the good news is I don't spend more than 5 minutes at a time here! Also, I don't like how the price for units automatically increases every 12 months. They should reward clients for loyalty by locking in an annual price, not penalizing them each year for staying longer. This policy does not foster customer loyalty and is a long-term revenue mistake. Oh well, corporate profits BS. read more

I actually went to their location nearby on Pierce Street but am posting my review here since that one does not have a Yelp listing. Anyway their employee Amber did a great job of getting us set up with our space, despite it being her first day there and some mix ups and problems with the electricity. This location is very clean and neat and looks safer than the other one since it is in the middle of a busy commercial area. The Vietnamese-Chinese restaurant next door is very good too. read more

We had the best experience with Shasta at this location. My father died last year. He had had a storage unit here for many years. We had to have the lock removed to access the unit. Our goal was to make sure this was as stress-free as possible for my Mom, considering the circumstances. Shasta could not have been more friendly and professional. Over the several days it took us to clean everything out, she proactively provided us with whatever information we needed. One storage place is basically the same as another but it is the people that make the difference. When I originally found this place, they were very accommodating and helpful. I stored my kitchen supplies in an outside unit for easy access even though it was more expensive. What they don't tell you is that the soil from American Soil gets into the units and makes everything filthy. In addition they raise the rent by 12% after only six months! I went there to tell them about this and they blatantly acted like they could care less about what you had to say. I highly discourage you from using this facility. read more

Excellent location near both 580 and 880 freeways offering clean lockers that are easy to access. Highly recommended because of the friendly, efficient management under the ever-helpful Curtis who's very experienced, patient & kind. Have used this Jacuzzi site several times for the convenience and good service. The site gives a good impression - it's not overly large, is tidy and well-maintained. You feel as though you're storing your goods with a friend, someone who's got lots more space than you do. This site is handy, well-lit, secure, easy to use, and reasonable. I have been a customer for public storage since 1994, at jacuzzi location (#410) I've been there for last 13 years. I always have at least two spaces for business use and personal. the Jacuzzi location have been great to me thru the years, the manager Curtis has great personality, friendly and most of all great customer service.This location is been always clean and most of the time you are greeted by staff member.
