I selected the basic service because I did not need the zip drive back quickly and was the best value. They managed to turn around the work within a week which was faster than expected. SHIPPER BEWARE. READ THIS if you are mailing/shipping your hard drive to them. There is nothing SECURE here. I hope to save anyone here who made the same mistake I did. DO NOT SEND YOUR HARDDRIVE TO THEM if you plan on relying on their shipping, which is basically relying on the awful company that FED EX is (rampant theft and lost packages with no liability). I made the huge mistake of accepting SECURE DATA RECOVERY's offer for overnight shipping, which they claimed to have 'insured.' For anyone reading this, PLEASE, if you value your hard drive and priceless data, ALWAYS, take out THIRD PARTY INSURANCE in order to save your data if anything happens to your hard drive. If your hard drive is lost (or STOLEN, like mine was) then third party insurance 'might' lessen the blow financially. The most important thing to know is that the insurance they use through Fed Ex, means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, since Fed Ex only compensates up to 100 dollars for any lost or stolen package, with or without insurance. To make a long story short, they overnighted my hard drive ( from Fort Lauderdale, Florida) via Fed Ex with insurance. Their main office is in Ohio. My package arrived in an empty and open box to the Fed Ex in Ohio. The package had made it to their main Fed Ex Hub in Memphis Tennessee location, so apparently either someone working at Fed Ex stole my hard drive from the Memphis location, or they stole it at the Ohio facility. In the end these companies could care less since they are covered legally in the fine print. Overall, the response from Secure Data Recovery was pretty deadpanned and 'procedural' with minimal words or feedback. No real apologies. All they could do was file a claim with Fed Ex for $100.00 compensation and they tacked on $60 dollars for their 'estimate' of what my hard drive cost. My wish for them is that they would have a disclaimer on their website regarding their shipping options. Yes, it's obvious that anyone runs a risk sending their package anywhere, but why would you work a company that has been experiencing more and more cases of theft. And why would you not WARN your potential customers of this happening? Overall, if I could rewind, I would never ever ever ship my hard drive anywhere. Lesson learned. I would work with someone local even if more expensive. DO NOT take a chance and rely on what shipping companies have become these days. read more

tl; dr: expensive service, great customer service, great results. For almost 20 years I've run my own file server. 4 disk RAID5. I've lost many, many disks over the years to normal failures, but through diligent management, never more than one disk at a time. Long story short, the entire server dropped one foot to the ground, causing problems in all four disks at once. I spent weeks trying to get the disks into some kind of working shape, and eventually threw in the towel. Faced with losing data that goes as far back as 1994 (stuff downloaded from a BBS!), I decided to try out Secure Data Recovery. I bagged up the four disks and brought them to an official drop-off location in Emeryville. This was delightful, as the storefront was in fact a small computer repair shop who were absolutely lovely. They told me what to expect in terms of process and price, and gave me some advice as to how to proceed. The rest of the process went as you would expect. The techs determined they could recover my data, and quoted a price that was quite high. I was in no rush, but even the "you wait til we get to you" price was outside of what I was expecting. I had given this data up for gone, so having the possibility of recovery was too tempting. I bit the bullet and agreed to the quote, and I am glad I did -- I realized later that I stored a bunch of old photos on there that otherwise would have been gone. The only other hitch was that I ordered a drive from Amazon for them to use to send me the recovered data. Amazon delivered the drive to some mysterious location, never to be seen again.* When we all realized this was the case, my contact Scott M arranged to have my data sent back for free on their dime. I appreciate this, aside from saving me money, it saved me the time of trying to figure things out with Amazon and wait for them to ship another drive to SDRS and then waiting longer for my data. In November I experienced a catastrophic hard drive failure, and spoke to Jonathan Nguyen at Secure Data Recovery Services. I sent in my hard drive for the diagnostics, paying the $295.00 for expedited analysis. I was told that there was physical damage, but that the data looked to be recoverable. After agreeing to expedited service (2-5 business days), and pre-authorizing the payment, everything started to go wrong. Getting information was painful, I had to constantly chase down the status of what was happening, and I kept being told the engineers were working on my drive. I didn't even receive standard turn around at 5-9 business days. They received my hard drive on Nov 8th, 2021. I did not receive the "recovered" files back until Thursday Dec 2nd. 26 days total until I received back a new drive with the supposedly "recovered files". After finally receiving this drive - absolutely nothing on it was accessible. Every file I tried to open was corrupted, even the ones that were supposedly marked good. Most of the files had garbage characters written in there that said "Data Recover Labs ?????????" written over and over again. 99% of the files were stripped from their file structure, renamed with numbers, and stuck in a folder by "file type". Most of my file types, like Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign were gone. The Adobe Photoshop files were all corrupt and wouldn't open, same with the jpeg files. It's one thing to tell me that the files can't be recovered - it's another to pretend they can, and send me back a drive where none of my files can be opened. I was extremely clear up front that these were Graphics files, that I was a graphic artist, and these were my critical files. These were all on a mac formatted drive and were large Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator files primarily, with jpg and png also. I told the company that average files sizes were 50MB to 300mb and made it clear these were business files, not a hard drive full of personal momentos. Not only did I receive things back in a "file type recovery" format where all file structure was stripped, but it renamed every file so I had no clue what it was. That too could have been dealt with if a single one of these files would open. They do not. Not one of the psd files, not one of the jpeg files. My Adobe InDesign files that had a file extension of .indd are just flat missing. I'm beyond disappointed in how this was handled. At any point they could have told me that they didn't have experience with these large graphics files, or that their software was going to destroy the files, or that they didn't have experience with mac files. They didn't even tell me that my drive had been re-shipped off to Chicago instead of Los Angeles, and couldn't even get the shipping back to me with the correct method. Instead I was strung along for almost a month, while my business suffered waiting to hear whether anything could be recovered or if it all had to be rebuilt from scratch. I reached out to the company again and told them I was willing to pay the $295 for the diagnostics, the cost of the new hard drive they sent back, and a reasonable $500 fee for the work they did to access the physical drive. But I cannot pay $3,752.37 for "recovered files" that can't be opened. That is simply unacceptable, not to mention ethically reprehensible. After giving them another 12 days to get back to me and make this right, I once again heard nothing from them and have proceeded to file a dispute with my credit card company and the Better Business Bureau. read more

I am changing my review from earlier. I had an external hard drive that was corrupted, which Timothy's team helped download onto a new hard drive. Unfortunately, it is now 1.5 months later and I still have not received the hard drive. Fedex made attempts at delivery 1.5 month ago while I was not home but the sender did not allow me to change this delivery time or allow drop off without signature. Although Timothy has said he would reach out to the shipping team, I still have not heard anything about the delivery. Awful service, I would not recommend to anyone! I dealt with Account Representative Timothy Rutan and was completely lied to. After spending thousands of dollars to recover damaged data the drive I received did not have a majority of the files recovered. They disguise files they can't recover as "partially damaged" and avoid emails when confronted. Their "99%" success rate is a complete sham. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone. Firsts of all they will quote you a very expensive price, just say you can't afford it and miraculously they will lower it by $1000. However, the shady practice was not the problem when I declined their service, they charged me almost $50 to return my compute and sent it UNSECURED and it was stolen, they said it wasn't there problem. Knowing how much information can be on a person's computer it is completely neglectful sending it without signature required. Then they stopped responding to me and helped with NOTHING. My experience with Secure Data Recovery has been awful. I highly recommend looking for a different company to recover your data. TLDR: Their actual price is way more expensive than the service they provide. They never returned the drive I sent in for repair. It's under warranty but without the drive I can't get it replaced. I had a hard drive failure in August of 2021. I reached out to this company for a quote. Although they were hesitant to give me a range they told me the services I was asking for generally was between 600 - 1k. A bit pricey but I moved ahead with it as my drive was under warranty and if I wanted it replaced I needed to use a place that was certified by the drive company. When I sent in the drive the quote came back north of 2k. If I had known that was a possibility I would have shopped around to check out other places. After calling to complain about this multiple times, and being shuffled around from my original contact, they brought the price down to 1k. Which although expensive I was thankful for and was able to commit to. They recovered a fair amount of my files but not all. 500 gb out of 2 tb. They sent me a new drive, but never returned the old drive so I could send it in under the warranty. I followed up about 4-5 times via phone after not hearing back over 3 emails. Finally they said they would send the drive back, and when they did sent it to the wrong address. Supposedly fed ex's fault. After following up again and being guaranteed it would be rectified it's now February of 2022 and I have yet to get the drive back. At this point I'm not even sure I'll still be under warranty if they ever do get the drive back. DO NOT USE THEM! read more

I had a hard drive that was exposed to water for a very short amount of time. When I took it out of its protective case it had a small drop off water. I was sure nothing was damaged but just to make sure I didn't try to turn it on and sent It to secure data recovery. Elliot guided me on the process and when they reviewed the damages they said it was so severely damaged by water it was going to cost 4,000$ to fix. The price was absolutely insane for me and I asked for my hard drive back. When received I took it to a local hard drive recovery. Upon inspection they told me it hadn't even been opened by secure data and the drive had absolutely NOTHING wrong with it and was in perfect condition with all my files intact. Total cost for inspection, new drive and cloned flies - 100$. Secure data recovery is a total scam. They will lie to you about damages to get you to pay as much as possible. Disappointed by how they do business, especially when they are there to help with recovering irreplaceable photos and videos. read more

Absolutely disappointed with this company and their service department. Their service department doesn't return phone calls or emails and their technicians do not try every possible step to ensure data recovery. I had a hard drive that broke and used a local company in Phoenix, AZ. When they could not recover my data, I reached out to Secure Data Recovery and set up a system with the hope that they could recover my data. However, they were unable to. The real reason I'm disappointed is because I do not believe Secure Data Recovery took all the steps to recover my data. Secure Data Recovery believed that they did not have the original printed circuit board, but the local Phoenix company said they returned it, but had rewritten the malware on the board. I provided Secure Data Recovery with this information and even a Google Drive link from the Phoenix company, however, I believe that Secure Data Recovery never used this link, nor did they reach out to me or the original Phoenix company for assistance. If they had used the link, I was never informed at all. Several times, I reached out to Scott McMacken who was handling my case, but he never called me back or returned any emails I sent him. To make matters worse, Secure Data Recovery did not return all of my equipment. I was missing the original case for the hard drive, its USB cable and documented paperwork from the Phoenix company, that I included so Secure Data Recovery would have notes on what to do. When it was eventually returned--after multiple emails--I was never notified that the missing items had been found and were being returned. All of this is why I believe my data recovery failed, because Secure Data Recovery failed to take every step needed, to think outside the box about what needed to be done, let alone properly communicate with me when needed. read more

FedEx blames secure data recovery and they blame FedEx... Either way for the price paid for these services I would expect a more professional and courteous response and solution... Overall a disappointing experience, in both customer service and actual data recovery. In terms of the service, when speaking to reps they were respectful and tried to help. Problem is the very poor follow up - I was told issue would be responded to that weren't, despite numerous calls from me. Regarding recovery, I was told there was 100% recovery of lost data, when in reality only 60-70% of the data was recovered. This is an expensive service, and though I did get something for the money, it was not what was expected based on conversations with reps. After months, 3 months or so, I've still not gotten follow up from customer service, even though each time I call in they assure me someone will be following up with me. If they'd said, "We can only recover 60-70% of the data", or "Sorry, we are unable to help further" I'd at least have appropriate expectations. read more

I pay 2500 for the recovery, initial was 3300. I received the hard drive and when I check their "GOOD LIST" of recovered data with my videos. Half of them are folders with word doc no videos or even damaged videos to be used. I start the charge back process and they tell my bank. I'm trying to commit fraud. Out of the 78 video folders only 40 work and had videos on their "GOOD LIST". I will post my experience on every forum or review board possible to out them for their shady practices. A day later I called again. Second Operator said my case rep was in a meeting and would call me back between 15-30 minutes. It's been 24 hours since then and I haven't received any information. This company is a BIG RIP OFF! I'm being treated like a CRAPPY CUSTOMER after paying almost $1000 for them not to even call me yet. Terrible. Time and money waste!! After I called these guys I been told that I could come by at my convenience with my corrupted hard disk and bring it to them for an evaluation of the damages and a quote. I took a morning off but once there I've been told that nobody was able to take a look to my hard disk I was not admitted at the entrance either. Awful experience. Took a week to diagnose the computer and only updated me on that when I called them myself. Quoted me at 3x the price of what a different company would do (quoted at ~$3400, different company said they'd do it for $1200). Said they would match that price, but neglected to inform me that that meant it would take 3-5 weeks; if I had known that, I would've asked them to send the computer back. After 4.5 weeks and me calling over and over, being told I'll get a call back with an update, and not receiving one, I'm finally informed that the data is not recoverable. I'm told I'll have to pay $30 for them to ship it back to me and that I'll receive a tracking number soon. The next day I call to ask for a tracking number and am told that I'll receive an email with it before EOD with one. I call back 2 hours later and, miraculously, they now have a tracking number for me, which they read over the phone. This was yesterday at 4pm, and I still haven't received the email with the tracking number. Run, do not walk, away from this operation. read more

Not only the service (or lack thereof), but the communication (again, lack thereof) - just beyond belief - they have turned me into a b**ch, re how many times i have had to email and call, and never ever a response, an update, or any action.
