DO NOT BE TEMPTED BY THEIR DEALS FOR NEW CUSTOMERS AS THEY'LL JACK UP PRICES DRAMATICALLY ONCE YOU BECOME REGULAR CUSTOMERS. WE FELT LIKE THEY DIDN'T CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS. WE HAD FLOODING IN OUR UNIT & TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Details: We had a large 10x30 unit for several years at a reasonable price. However, our unit got flooded, but because we liked the staff who worked there back then & it was an accident that would likely not happen again, we decided to stay but a few months later, moved to a 6x10. We paid $80 approx at 1st, then within less than 2 years, the unit price doubled to $160. When we talked to them they said their new prices were half of that. They wouldn't reduce the price in our existing unit, so basically we were being punished for being a loyal customer. They said we could move to a new unit but under a different name to get the prices for new customers, but since we already paid the entire month we asked if we can get credited for what we paid so we can immediately move to another unit & get the price for new customers. They said no but we could try taking to their regional manager. Since I didn't want to burden staff or myself with trying to get approval, I said if it's easier then I'll just wait til beginning of the month to switch over. First of the month comes & they are closed & the weekend of the month was Easter when everyone was closed (including malls & most businesses) so we came in on the 1st to do the switch of units. Come Monday turns out they are closed for that day, so we have to do it on Tuesday which is the 2nd. So when we came they said they'd have to charge us extra for being late in switching over when the whole reason why we waited was because they couldn't credit us for what we already paid & we had to wait til beginning of the month to switch over or regional management would have to step in. They said we could call the regional manager if we didn't want to pay extra fees for the month (bc we switched over on the 2nd bc of the circumstances described). No one called us back after attempting to make multiple calls to regional management (to this day still no one from the regional office has contacted us). Instead of switching to another unit, we made the decision to leave since the new management only saw us as dollar signs & not actual people. Before this place we only had good experiences with the other storage place we did business with, but we switched to this place since we moved years ago. This place used to be responsive to customers now they just feel like a rigid, cold, unresponsive corporation that jacked up prices on loyal customers & have no consideration for customers. We switched to another storage company who's a lot more customer focused. So far we really like the new place. Unfortunately, we would not recommend this business to anyone! read more

Amazing location good ppl that rent a storage there , unfortunately though it's not open 247 nor air conditioned which is a negative. Judy the manager that left was so amazing caring and understood needs wants and concerns. You can't dump anything I. The trash dumpster they have either and don't think anything other then having it be a hi bye and that's it . Place is ok for the mean time. read more

Horrible service, horrible business practices. DO NOT STORE HERE. Myself and a group of college students were taken advantage of by the managers time and time again as they refused to honor their pieces of the contract or even respond to queries. I have never reviewed on Yelp before but it makes me sick to think that I ever trusted these people to store my valuables. read more

We used Universal Self Storage to store our home items while we looked for our new home. Judy was extremely helpful and able to hold the unit for us until it was convenient for us to come done and finish the necessary paperwork. Through the course of 2 months Judy was professional, helpful, and always cheerful. She dealt with my wife and I in an exemplary manner which made us feel even better about choosing Universal Self Storage. The storage unit was clean upon receipt and the handover process when we returned the unit was also simple. The facility is amply lit and sufficient security cameras. We had two units. One that was along the south wall was ok. The other one was closer to the exit and got broken into. When we let the management know they said it was our problem. When we filed the police report the management said there was no video available even though we had a small time frame of when it could've happened and also knew our unit was in the sight line of the camera. The only thing they cared about was filing their paperwork and moving on. I really don't want to be that person but it really seemed like an "inside job" or something like that. Couldn't wait to move my stuff out after we were treated that way. read more

Universal Self Storage is great storage facility, with a very friendly, and professional staff. There is a large moving truck available upon request, which I found very convenient many times while I had a unit here. The prices are reasonably low compared to other locations in Upland, and the place is very secure and clean. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who asks. read more

I know, I know, a review on a storage place? This place is great and I want to write a good review. The units are clean, well managed very accessible. Security was good and I never had any problems with anything. If I ever need storage again, I will use them without question. They gave me a free month or two when I signed up and the rate was in line with every other storage place in the area. The GM was also very reasonable about giving me a free few days at the end of my contract. read more

Perusing the internet to check on prices and availability of storage units. Found Universal Self Storage and noticed that on their web site they post "We beat competitor's prices plus $0 first months rent." I had found a storage location in Montclair that was offering a 10 x 20 storage with 1st month free for $115. Great price but Montclair is further from my home than Universal (4.8 miles vs 1.8). Called Universal with the Montclair price, location, internet web site and phone number and said I saw your web site on matching competitor's prices and I would rent from Universal if they just matched the price. They took my phone number and said they would call me back. They called the next day and told me that the manager for the Upland location would not match or honor the $115 price. So much for their claim that "we beat competitor's prices." That is not true. If it was some huge difference in geographical locations and mileage between the storage locations ie. Upland and Lancaster or Fresno, I would understand, but not a neighboring city. read more

I chose this storage place because it was close to the house. However, I feel extremely lucky that I did. Very clean, the staff was very professional even through a staff change. The new "on-site" manager Judy is a blessing! Very sweet and accommodating, she helped me through a difficult transition. Would definitely rent here again, even if I had to travel a ways....too bad Idaho is such a drive. Thanks all for your help! read more

Probably the worst storage experience I've ever had! When I first signed my contract with them, a gentleman name Tom worked there and he was the kindest, most helpful man. He assisted me when I misplaced the key to my lock, was patient with me when I had my credit card stolen and forgot to change the details on my auto debit account....overall a class act! Then a new owner was acquired and a new lady assumed his position. My rent was raised 3 times. I understand a small fee (maybe once), but for a customer who paid her monthly bill consistently, you think they would have valued their long time tenants (5+ years) and grandfathered us in in some way. My calls were never returned in regard to this issue (all 3 times), the lady was rude, short and condescending. I am glad to finally wash my hands of this facility and move on. read more

First of all, the staff is amazing. I've never had a storage unit before and they were helpful every step of the way. The place is very clean, well kept, and feels secure. One of the best features is they have a moving truck you can use for $20 and don't need to worry about gas upon returning. They also give you blankets and dolly. Great place! read more
