I was really looking forward to my first tanning bed experience, but the visit didn't go as well as I hoped... the service was unpleasant. When I walked in and mentioned it was my first time, I was asked to wait while a returning customer was helped ahead of me. Not a huge deal, but it wasn't exactly a warm welcome. The woman who ended up helping me was friendly enough, but she didn't walk me through anything. She tried to sell me a $50 membership, which I get is part of the job, but I made it clear I was just testing it out. She also handed me tanning lotion without mentioning it cost extra until she asked for a card. Then she just pointed me to a room like I knew what to do. All I got was "there's a 5-minute delay or you can hit start." I had to come out of the room twice to ask which way to lie down, how to actually start the bed, and to get eye covers. By the time I got back in, I was still applying the lotion and the bed turned on! So I was rushing to finish up and get situated. By the time I actually laid down, a full minute had already passed. I only had 8 minutes on my timer so that was a chunk. I also wasn't told to pull the handle down, so I missed that too. It was just a lot of small things that added up. I had an airbrush tan and it was awful. When I got in there she wanted to know if i wanted the quick tan which developed sooner so you can shower sooner. I told her I could wait to shower and then she said that the color of the other one would not look good with my skin tone, so i had to pay the upgrade price to get the appropriate color. The gal did not have any method of doing it. Wasn't sure how I should be positioned. The tan was uneven, my feet looked like they were dirty for almost 2 weeks. Around my toes it was all dark outlining the nails., After the spray i noted concern about my toes and she briefly wiped them off, unfortunately not enough. Complete disregard for your health and safety with Covid. The front desk staff was not wearing a mask. She's the assistant manager of the Bothell spa. I asked her what their policy was for wearing a mask because of a boy sitting in the lobby unmasked and continuously coughing. I was told by her that they can't make anyone wear a mask. I replied, Really? Even with the mask mandate? She said nope. I was surprised because that's not a correct statement. If the business cared anything about their customers (and staff) they would have everyone coming into their business wear a mask. I received a call from Jen in "HR" and I was told that I should not ask those types of questions in the spa. When discussing the incident with Jen she was judgmental and not professional at all. As it turns out the front desk girl (assistant manager) lied about the situation that happened in their lobby when the mother of the unaccompanied minor came out from spray tanning. She too was not wearing a mask. It's too bad there weren't any cameras recording the incident. Where's a video when you need it! On top of the disregard for public safety, Seattle Sun Tan doesn't seem to realize the liability of leaving a child unaccompanied while the parent is tanning. It seems to me the business is run by an inexperienced staff and HR personnell. I've been a member for over 8 years and I have referred many of my friends over the years. Basically I signed up for the 1.00 promotion for a monthly membership. I was told I could cancel after one month and will be charged 39.95 for Red Light Therapy only membership. Tell me why I had a charge of 60.07 on my account and the only way to try to resolve this is via e-mail. Customer service for this company were adamant that I had signed up for a different membership and I had to explain that this is definitely incorrect because I don't need other tan services as I already have melanin. That was their mistake on that part and they also advised that I should have had the paperwork there when I signed on the electronic pad and I did not. They had initially had issues not taking my debit card information and had to go back again and it was verbally agreed that I would be charged for the 39.95 red light only on January 14. After having to go back and forth with client services and the lack of care and responsibility in their errors I do not want to go back even if my membership ends on February 14 so I requested a full refund to be compensated for this incompetent service and being mislead and taken advantage of these promos. So basically to the public- beware of these promos and make sure that what you signed up for is correct and get that documented with your own copies so that you don't have to experience this situation- especially if these services are usually not affordable to you. I went as far up to the CEO and Owner Scott Swerland's assistant Jessica and she stayed that this situation is "closed" and resolved. Mr. Swerland you are a very successful local business man and are making millions in revenue with Seattle Sun Tan, Desert Sun Tanning, Urban Float, and TruFusion and you will not refund me my 60.07 for your staff's errors and inadequate service? You offer the best tanning services east of Maui? I placed my account on hold over the summer for $5 a month which would be credited to my account when I reactivated my account. I did this to avoid the start-up costs of a new account. I come to find out I have to pay for an account reinstallation cost plus the $50 a month I was previously paying for a membership and then I can use the money I was paying them each month to avoid all of these fees. I spoke with the manager about my issues and he was so professional and appologetic. He, Taylor, by the way is a wonderful manager. Then the next time I went in, the young lady i had had a couple issues with very genuinely appologized to me. It didn't feel forced at all and she has been very kind every since as I frequent there often. I am just really happy with the outcome of all of this. What is it about Tanning places... (they all are able to hire the same exact personality behind the counter). So interesting to me, they are not my favorite bunch. This place is like the rest (typical). They really want you to sign up for the monthly - they try to talk you into the "better levels" they all tell you what you really need to get "super tan" "super fast". And its annoying to cancel. They are all the same. This one is close to my house so its convenient. One major annoying CON to this place compared to Desert Sun is the FLOORS - they are NASTY. When I do not want to put my dirty gym clothes on the floor . . . you know its bad. I wish they would spend a little more time in cleanliness department (less in the sales tactics). If you want to get tan its not like there are overwhelming wonderful options- there are lots of options period. I say go with what is convenient. read more

Front desk staff is snotty, catty and dismissive. FYI their unlimited services are actually limited-only one service of any kind a day and the direct conflict between limited and unlimited seems to be lost on all who are "customer service" folks. Transparency is opaque for this company. There is no accountability to their customers/members-no effort to retain long term customers and not a care at all about their loss. You will be treated as disposable when you pay this company your hard earned money. Oh-and do not pay $for services in advance, because if you decide to no longer support this crummy business (this review pertains to both Tacoma locations), you will not be refunded, because they don't do that (that's all locations). Yup. They won't return your account credits, even though you paid for them. You are free to use their services (only one a day though-that's apparently somewhere in the fine print of some contract that you probably don't have a copy of) to spend your credits-even when you've canceled your long term membership and made it clear that you're no longer interested in interacting with their horribly trained staff. I won't spend any of my, or anyone else's $, on this business. Tan Republic is a much better option. read more

Ok like the girls here are super nice. The rooms are kept pretty clean. They offer traditional tanning beds. Spray tan and red light treatments. Lots of lotions and Seattle swag like socks. I like that it's got a large garage for the whole area. Like glad they opened a location with a free garage near by. All the up selling can be annoying, can feel too sales-ish but like I totally get it part of the job. The wait isn't bad either. I so wish they had more spray tanning booths. So I will just tell my whole story and you can decide if you want to come here or not. I won't ever be going again. Call to make an appointment for a custom airbrush spray tan. They asked if I was ok with a male (I'm female) and I said sure. She said he was one of the best. That he's been doing this for YEARS and I wouldn't be disappointed. I asked how much it will cost and she said straight up $45. I laughed for a sec because I was used to pay $75 at my old place and what a good deal that is so we had a good chuckle. Show up to my appointment freshly exfoliated in flip flops and loose fitting dress. The girl at the front desk asks me which formula I would like to use and I tell her I don't know anything about formulas as the lady I used to go to just chose the best one for my skin so I'll need some help there. She recommended some formula (don't remember the name) that you rinse off after 1.5 hours and that it would likely be the best for my fair skin so I said sure! ...the whole conversation made me a bit wary as I was wondering why SHE was choosing my formula and not the guy who would be spraying me. Whatever. she told me the color that would be used to match my hair and I went to the back and began undressing. this is where is starts to get interesting.... the GIRL walks in to do my spray. WTF? Now i'm starting to notice how horrible her tan is. Splotchy and a terrible color. no worries - someone else probably did hers so we're all good. At this point I probably should have started asking some questions but I didn't because I get REALLY nervous every time I get a spray. I asked if I should use the barrier cream on my feet and hands and she said no. that I could put it on the tops of my hands if I wanted but definitely not my palms....how do you do that?? lol. She then tells me she changed her mind and is going to use a different color. Ok so basically you're telling me you don't know what you're doing. She begins to spray. Everything is going great I think and then she's finished and I realize she's only sprayed ONE of my hands. So I ask her to spray the other. She SPRAYS THE HAND SHE ALREADY SPRAYED. And does a tiny bit on the other. she hands me the fan thing to dry off and walks out. I dry myself off for a bit until I'm feeling like's it's enough then I put my dress on very carefully. I look in the mirror and not only has my dress removed the color wherever it touched me but my legs and arms are HORRIBLY streaky with prominant DARK spots and parts of my arms didn't have much of anything on them. Oh but she sure did get my arm pits really dark. WTF? I walked out and asked her if it is ok and she says totally! it's the nature of the formula. I promise when you get up tomorrow after it has had time to develop it will be perfect. go to the desk to pay and she tells me its $75-ish. WTF again?? she said it was 45. Girl tells me it's due to the formula I chose. It's a $30 up charge. I told her I wasn't paying that and she should have told me about the price difference from the beginning and she argues with me telling me that the woman I spoke to on the phone told me about the formulas and that I had been informed. NO I HAVE NOT!!! I LITERALLY told you when I walked in that I had zero idea about any formulas. she eventually honored the $45 but not after I argued with her for some time. I ended up leaving feeling gross and unhappy. Go home. Wait the appropriate 1.5 hours then rinse off the formula and go to bed. When I wake up i'm sad to discover that i've got hardly any color at all (I wore panties during the spray so I could see the tan line - or lack there of). the darkest places were my hands (the left was WAY darker than the right), feet and under arms. legs ok, butt basically no color, abdomen bascially no color. face ok. When I posted pics of their filthy beds on Google they made a note on my account to tell the employees to be sure to clean my bed before I tanned. Isn't that supposed to be a given? Walls have spackle all over them, the rooms are so small that you literally hit the tanning bed with the door to the room. Where do I even start... wow. This place is clean, the staff are amazing, and I've never had such an amazing experience at a tanning salon. I've had my membership for only about two weeks now and I am as tan as I have ever been! I've received numerous compliments at work on my tan. The staff are knowledgeable and have helped me achieve my goals. A big shout out to Izzy specifically for helping me find the best tanning lotion and tanning bed levels for me! Also a shoutout to Erin for always being so kind and answering any questions or concerns I may have. She remembered my name only after coming in for about a week! I've been to other tanning salons, but nothing compares to this place. This place is VERY clean and the equipment is newer than what I've experienced before. I know that tanning places can be very intimidating, but I have nothing but good things to say about this place. I plan on keeping my membership for a very long time! Clean your beds better. I used to work at multiple tanning salons and spending about 10 seconds in a room to clean is NOT ok! None the less when I go to use your bed it has lotion and smudges all over it!! (For management: I have timed the blonde gal, the girl with orange hair and the gentlemen and the long brown haired girl) 10-15 seconds is not enough time. Pricing is a bit high. I was completely ripped off by the girl with blonde hair (Don't know her name but she mentioned she teaches also). I told her why I was coming and what I wanted. I wanted a month of the high pressure beds. She went in on this package they had for over $100. She told me it was no contract and my month would end at the end of month. She told me it was for the HP beds. So spent $130. One of my visits the girls told me i only had about 2 HP bed uses left. I said what do you mean? Is my package not a month. She said yes but my "upgrades" were running low and I needed to purchase more. I told her no i was informed my package was a month package for HP beds. She said incorrect its a $30 package for standard basic beds with $100 of upgrades added on. WHAAAAAAAAAT TF!???? The girl continued to tell me they didn't even sell a HP bed package. I asked multiple times what i was getting and was told it was a month of HP beds. Not standard beds with $100 upgrades that will run out before month end. The beds for me did not do justice. I sadly just stopped going because i was not getting color. (Maybe change your bulbs?) I can go to Tropical Tan for HALF the price and after a month have that glow and color most us girls aim for. OVERPRICED and MISLEAD for a sale. I was mislead during sign up and put on a membership that no longer exists. Also was told Redlight would be added on by their Customer Service. Every time I went in, they didn't understand my membership, and needed to email Customer Service again and again. I like how they waited til after my ability to cancel and was debited again to inform me the membership still needs an additional $30 add on for Redlight. So I'm paying $80 ($96 after Taxes) and will be paying $110 ($132 after Taxes) for the exact same membership and beds there competition offers for literally half that price. Their Customer Service does not care. GO ELSEWHERE. Tropical Tan offers ALL BEDS, SUNLESS, AND REDLIGHT for $60! Gave 2 stars because they beds aren't terrible. read more
