I always enjoy my visits to the N 45th St Tropical Tan. It's nice because I never have to wait and the front desk gals always have a professional demeanor and greet me with a smile. It's very chill vibes there so you can even pop in wearing your pajamas. The rooms are spacious and they have lots of different tanning services including infrared therapy that reduces aging and inflammation. Living in WA it can get pretty gloomy in the winter months, so I rely on Tropical tan to give me that quality Vitamin D break that my skin and mind craves. They also have very fair prices and sometimes good deal come out on products and packages. Rates recently went up a little mostly due to regular inflation but they are still more affordable than all the other big chain tanning salons that I know of. for the most part my experience here has been fine. i would say good expect for one employee who is probably the rudest person i've ever delt with when paying for a service. she acts like it's the biggest inconvenience when you walk in. barely acknowledges your existence and is just blatantly rude. she needs to be fired, i normally give people the benefit of the doubt but she truly is a miserable and mean person. she also blares her tiktok at full volume all the time. truly ruins the tanning experience having to deal with someone so rude. read more

However, often times it seems they are not open during scheduled hours. And when they are there's always a "be right back" sign. I've called numerous times with no answer. As a loyal customer of this company since 2004 under the fathers stores I had always experienced amazing customer service and staff. Last year I switched over to the sons location. I moved out of the area but this location is near my job in Seattle. So out of loyalty I wanted to remain with an amazing company. But sadly I found out the father and sons work ethic and compassion is at different ends of the spectrum. I was diagnosed with stomach Cancer Sept 2020 I attempted to freeze my account but was told by staff it could bot be done until I drove to Seattle to sign the paperwork. Sick and unable to drive it took a week before my mom could drive from Tacoma to Federal way to pick me up to drive the Seattle location. So I did get there I did sign the papers and 2 months later I checked my credit card and they still charged me for two months. End of December when I brought this to their attention they promised me it wouldn't happen again. The next week January it happened a third time. I was also told the same gal who was there when I went in no longer works there they can't find my paperwork. Then it changed to they would credit me my three months I asked for a refund or a credit of three months plus my refund out of stress and inconvenience. Customer service went down hill more more and more. Well here we are February still no credit. I've provided my credit card and personal info to three different people a rep, an admin assistant and the owner and still no refund. Where is my credit card info. Why hasn't it been done? I'm been told by the rude administrative assistant I'm lucky they would even credit me because without my paperwork they have no proof I actually came in. The owner said the paperwork is preferred but not mandatory but the assistant and the manager of the location rudely tell me it is mandatory. The owner Danial appears to be a nice person and lacking empathy he told me today he's gotten this resolved under a month. But still no refund today as of right now. I brought this to their attention end of December when I checked my credit cards statements for all my auto pay bills. So that's longer than one month and for the record I filled out my papers beginning of October so when this happened in November and December that's when this started. I'm not sure what's more sad to me is how rudely Sarah the administration assistant was disrespectful and down talked to me and told me paperwork was mandatory and I'm lucky they even given me a credit not the money they took unlawfully. Or the fact that Sarah leaves the owner in the dark and doesn't refund or listen to his orders and leaves him in the dark. Let's take some accountability Tropical Tan. For the record Dan Senior has great stores and great customer service reps but the sons stores have always been problematic. I would not recommend this tanning company because when your sick with cancer and can't tan they don't care about anything else then getting there measly $60 a month. Actually the WORST tanning salon. Better off going to Seattle Sun Tan. I've been going here for about four years now, and I finally terminated my membership. The Inconsistency in pricing is ridiculous! Some days a spray tan will be $15 and the next day I show up and it is $30. Many staff members would come from other salons to cover shifts here but wouldn't seem to know what they were doing. At least 4 times during July I had to call the store because I was in a bed and they forgot to load the time on the bed (specifically the male staff member). The COVID protocols are almost non-existent. Their solution is to have you wipe down your own bed, but are completely inconsistent at having that monitored. The 6 feet apart rule is absolutely ignored, and their seating area is open and never wiped down. They also cancelled my membership a month early by mistake of the lady working, so every time I showed up for this month they did not know what to do and they had to call some manager that NEVER answers. So the solution was to resign me up, but then I wouldn't be able to cancel for an additional 30 days, I think NOT... I purposely went in a month early to cancel because I had enough of their horrible salon. read more

I can't get anyone on the phone and no one responds to my emails. It's extremely frustrating. Overall, I just want to warn people. I used to LOVE this place but if you ever have to deal with a refund or cancellation, good luck. Do NOT support this business!!!! This company has the worst customer service I have ever dealt with in my life. In January I cancelled my membership and was told I would still be charged for February (this didn't really make sense to me since I canceled in early January but whatever...) come March, they still charged me $55 even though I cancelled. When I went into the salon, the girl told me I was charged because no one had "gotten to processing the stack of cancellation paperwork" so I still had to pay. UM NO, I canceled in January and I shouldn't have to pay because your employees are too lazy to do the paperwork... I was given the salon owners number and was told by her I'd be getting a refund within three weeks. After checking in when I didn't receive it, she told me to call their customer service. Customer service took a MONTH to call me back and told me she isn't trained how to do refunds. Why!?!? This makes no sense. According to this girl, only one person in the whole franchise/company knows how to do refunds and she hasn't called her back to show her how to do it. It is now MAY, five months after I cancelled my membership and I still don't have my refund. This is honestly just a shortened version of events that has occurred while trying to get my money back. I could go on and on about how messed up this company and people have been to me. Long story short, these people will take your money, even when they're not supposed to, but they won't give it back. I've filed a fraud investigation against them so hopefully this business will be held accountable for their theft. Sounds like they have done this exact thing to many people. Beware. read more

They will make you wait 40 minutes in line behind a brand new customer to sign them up - even though they could get you into a room while helping the other person. Love everything about the location, beds, etc. and have had a membership for several years until what seems to be a recent employee allows her dog to run loose in the salon. It surprised me the first time, jumped up on my clothes which it covered with fur, slobber, and dirty pawprints. Meanwhile she told me "oh he does that to everyone" while I kept asking her to get her dog off of me. I then dealt with allergies acting up from it until I was able to go home and change my fur covered pants. Other times it has been at the door, barking and snapping while I have to wait outside for her to get it away from the door so I can even safely go in. Clearly not a service dog despite the fake "ESA" harness that she has on it, as service dogs do not behave like that. Unsafe and unsanitary! read more

this is the second time I've gone to tropical tan and nobody was there and the door was locked when its supposed to be open. This is very annoying. I'm obsessed with this tanning salon, especially this location! I came in on a Tuesday evening and it was pretty busy. There were two people before me for the bed I wanted. Dani is the best! She upgraded my account quickly (something the past employees were unable to do bc they were not management) and suggested I try the red light therapy and massage chair while I wait (which is included in my membership but I was unaware until she mentioned it) and the time flew by! It's literally the best massage chair I've ever experienced. I like to do the bed and then the Versa, so before beginning my tanning experience Dani offered me a robe, I didn't know they even offered robes here but it's sooooo convenient! I tried going to his chain since it was closest to my new house, I typically go to Seattle ST for a sunless membership. I am appalled by how rude every single location is and unprofessional. The one in Lake City wasn't as bad as the Wallingford location. Once I was put on hold and completely forgotten about I heard the girls having conversations, another time it was hours before their closed times and she waved me off at the door. When I went in to cancel the women named Mariah had extreme attitude towards me and continued to role her eyes, tossing papers around.Even when I wanted to buy a after spray I was standing at he desk and she waved the person behind me before. I tried to pass it off as the girls were having a bad day, I worked in customer service I get it. But every single time?? Then they say they are going to bill me for another entire month? Wow. SO NICE! The employees are universally helpful here, which leads me to believe that a) the management is smart in their hiring practices and b) it's a good place to work because they seem so happy. The beds are fine, they have great deals- currently it's Happy Hours before noon at half off the price for a session- and other great deals like buy a lotion, get a free 'Ultra' tan. I signed up for a month unlimited Ultra tanning because I was scheduled for a cruise at the end of March and my Irish white skin needs a base or else I would spend the week uncomfortably red. $90+ for a month seemed excessive, but I wanted to use the best machine so I wouldn't burn. Since that machine was unavailable when I was there I used the next level down and got myself a little pink. Survived it and was ready to go back . . . when I had to cancel on my cruise. $90+ spent for one tanning session. Crap! Thinking there had to be a way to get - at least - a partial refund on my month I called this location and the person on the other end of the line informed me there were no refunds. No discussion. Hmm...I'm not sure where the previous reviewer got $9.95 a month. Because it's not quite *that* low but it for sure beats other tanning salon prices. I'm not one who goes to tanning salons, but this winter weather is just getting to me, so I decided to get a month's membership as much for the vitamin D as for the color. I went for the membership two up from the lowest, as the bed is much better and I'm nervous about burning (the lowest bed has the highest chance to burn you, FYI). I also decided to get some lotion - the Sweet and Sexy - as it was in my price range (about $36 I think, after the discount with a membership) and feels/smells great. I am a believer in using lotion to tan. I use lotion regularly to moisturize, but the tanning lotion helps so that you won't burn and that is huge. And Jessica who works there was so nice as to let me use her lotion as mine needed to be ordered. The first time I tanned (6 minutes), I actually did burn a little on my stomach area - which tans faster than the rest of your body I learned. And this didn't appear right away. I was told that your body continues tanning for about 8hrs after and sure enough, it wasn't until later that night that I saw the pink! So I waited a few days for it to disappear and then went for 5 mins using a little SPF 15 on that area and it was fine. So if you are an easy burner - or even an average burner (which I consider myself), you may want to consider using SPF 15 on your mid-section for the first couple times! Other than that little hitch, I love this place! The girls who work there are not trying to push packages and lotions on you and really try and make sure you are informed on the tanning process. So far, I have never had to wait for a bed and I've gone right after work (5-5:30pm and during lunch break 12-1pm). They continually have an assortment of deals. You really just need to go in and see which deal works best for you. read more

Man am I so GLAD Tropical Tan is in the Wallingford area. I have been in search of an "old school" tanning salon where you don't get bullied, pestered, rope-a-doped and FINGER-PRINTED by overly tanned teen girls with herpetic lesions on their lips...sort of like the salon down the street. While I agree Desert Tan is great in that they have beautiful decor and ambience, I dont like the snot-nosed, pushy "buy a membership now before the world ends" sales pitch. Ugh, such a turn off. And who fingerprints? ummmm the Seattle Police Department?? Goverment officials?? Yeah why don't you stick to checking a person's drivers license or something. Back to Tropical Tan, thanks for not being pushy, being knowledgable, friendly, and having packages I can actually buy upon my own decisions. Thanks for not being desert tan!!! Not usually a gal who tans, but I got a groupon for a trip I needed to tan for. Glad it was suggested that I upgrade. I bounced between the level 3 and 4 beds and did red light therapy beforehand, which I totally recommend. I was given 2 complimentary tans since my trip was a week after my month long deal was over. On my way to Florida with a gorgeous glow!! Big ups to Sydney who ALWAYS seems to be working for the great tanning advice, always having a bed ready and keeping the jams rocking!! They can tell you how long you need to go for to get the color you want. The beds are great, they're always clean, and there's free parking out front or behind Pudge Bros Pizza.
