I went here for about a month to do tanning and red light therapy to help me deal with the Seattle Winter. I opted not to sign a contract but just bought a package. When my package was up, the manager tried to talk me into signing a contract. I started reading the contract, and it says that if you end early, there will be a $150 fee. I asked the manager to clarify this and she said "Oh, that's not real." Excuse me, what? It's in your contract. If it's "not real", why is it in the contract? I asked her this exact question because I have no patience for this West Coast sort of passive aggression that I've gotten used to encountering around here, but true to form she just snidely told me "Most people don't read that much into it and ask all these questions." Oh, they don't? Well ma'am, that's a pretty big red flag. I'm not signing any contract without reading it, and I told her as such. I suggested she bring this up to corporate so they can revise their contract, and she just shrugged. Apart from this disturbing interaction, the tanning salon itself is filthy. The floors are sticky, even though there are always fans everywhere like the floor was just mopped. And the beds are filthy, outdated, creaky, and have lint in the fans. The entire store is probably a fire hazard. To top this all off, the prices are outrageous and as I outlined above, their practices are predatory. It's sad that businesses like this are even allowed to operate in modern day Seattle. They know that people want sunshine and red light therapy in this cold gray gloom, and they capitalize on that by inflating the prices up to ludicrous levels. In areas with plenty of free sunshine outdoors, the tanning prices are not like this. I'm just sorry that so many people apparently sign contracts with this place and don't read the fine print or ask questions. That's exactly why businesses like this continue to get away with things like this. read more

Well I'd have them take a look at their unethical membership contracts that charge an additional month automatically regardless of how early in the month you cancel your membership; then I'd tell their management and corporate office to answer emails and phone calls (they do not, ever). Long story short, after my partner had his leg amputated and we were forced to move abruptly this business continued to charge my account despite the fact that I hadn't been tanning in two months and sent multiple requests to their office, phone calls, etc. I expect they do everything they can to avoid membership cancellations in the Summertime. If I could rate this place zero I would. DO NOT GET A MEMBERSHIP HERE! They don't enforce their COVID sanitation policies (which are not enough, I am in healthcare and deal with these policies all day) and they are incredibly dishonest. I signed up for a special tan until the end of the year package at the end of October. At the time of sign up I explained that I was leaving the country in January and could not have it renew. The lady who helped me turned out to be the district manager. She said they couldn't normally sign people up and sign the cancellation paperwork on the same day. But she said she was making an exception. In January, I got charged! I called and emailed several times. I never received a single response to my email. I eventually got a call back from a girl who wasn't actually able to help me. She told me she would look into it. This is now late February and the final word is no refund because I can't produce the cancellation paperwork. It is very slimy and a terrible way to do business. They refuse to pass me up the chain to talk to whoever is actually making the decisions. As far as I understood, I had cancelled the renewing membership. They can clearly see that I didn't use it in January so it would be no loss to them to refund me. This whole process has been very stressful and unjust and I would strongly urge you never to do business with these people. And, after seeing their sanitation practices first hand, it is definitely not worth the risk. I was appalled by the lack of health standards this company practiced, not even following their own rules that were posted. Often, people were not asked to wear their masks in the salon, 6ft of distance was not always enforced with multiple people in the lobby at once, people switch in and out of rooms without observing the kill-time of the disinfectant, the employees did not know what the kill time of the disinfectant was and couldn't tell me what the active ingredient was, and the entire place has fans running which just spread bacteria from room to room. I am a healthcare professional and co-chair the Infection Control committee at a Skilled Nursing Facility here in Seattle. I assumed, incorrectly, that this business was only able to continue providing services based on their excellent Infection Control policies. After asking the girl at the front desk about kill times and policies, I asked how they were allowed to keep running. She said "I don't know, but I feel like we shouldn't be allowed. I see so many things that are not allowed in other places happening here. But I'm not complaining because I still have a job. When I'm here I try and enforce everything." read more

Don't have a lot of salons to compare to- but these are clean & the beds well maintained. Pleasant staff, but some are definitely more knowledgeable than others, so keep that in mind. If you are using a Groupon, please double check it has been correctly applied. Ask questions & they will be answered. As far as results & a great atmosphere, no problem at all here. I prefer the Wallingford location, but that's just me. Try to coordinate your times to find out when they are slow, so you don't have to wait for the bed you want. Super relaxing! read more

Loretta was FANTASTIC! She was so knowledgeable about the beds and lotions, recommended me the perfect package, gave me a tour, and was all-around just a wonderful person to talk with. Where to start ... Elizabeth was really nice and very good at being a sales man. Used me being new here to her advantage just to get 10$ extra on her check. I TOLD her I wanted to be dark I wanted my tans to matter and wanted to see a difference. She gave me a month of Supers .. every time I went in I burned she didn't tell me that they are higher UV rays in it which mattered too me. every other spot I went to the girls were just confused on why I had this package and why I used it if I wanted to get dark? I always go max time and they told me those are the harsher bulbs and ultra or sprays would be better for me. She didn't tell me that I was gonna be recharged at the next month on the first? I was sure this was a unlimited tans for a month package .. when I messaged her on her Instagram THAT she ASKED me to follow her on ( she saw my car and must like cars immediately started telling me how pretty I was and how she wanted to be my new BFF telling me to follow her. I upset about what had happened telling her simply she didn't mention I would be recharged at the end. I thought I was getting one month unlimited *shrugs* It was nice to save but I honestly could have paid for a year up if I wanted too. Money is never a problem for me *humble* She stated " I have the same guidelines for everything when I sell something please do not message me on social media" really quick to save her butt.. yeah I'm sure you're guideline told you to give out your Instagram because "you be popping sh*t on facebook". It's okay I actually stopped going because she made it really awkward for me WAYYY before the took the money out my account. She gives me her Instagram an I dm her , she acted like she wanted to hang out we were gonna go to the beach. I have my own business. I'm a resource to Seattle and I am busy all the time makes no difference to me that she was a weirdo and faked being my friend. I'm upset about how she handled it when I messaged her. Really quick to save your a**. Vienna ? What ever her manager is you should watch what you put in comments about customers. Since you knew of what happened you could of at least given me a call. I assume Elizabeth knows her and they are friends ! That would be why I got a unprofessional and embarrassing comment under my profile. I will be talking to dan about all of this as well. Yes I signed a contract but I was verbally told my agreement I wasn't given a paper to read I signed my sig. after WHAT ELIZABETH TOLD ME. I would post the comment left by the manger but it's quite embarrassing as they made me out to be a stalker. When I stopped going because ELIZABETH made ME uncomfortable. SeriOusly, I wish they would stop running spray tan specials on sites such as groupon and living social because that darn machine is ALWAYS broken. Broken or out of juice or "being fixed". So they sent me to the shoreline location. I had an appointment. I drive all the way over there to discover low and behold... it's "half broken"! Yep. I begged so they let me use it anyways and It didn't work at all except for the two streaks it left on my one arm for my photo shoot. Oh and to top it all off they were rude, would not comp my visit, and when I asked the lady why didn't she simply just call me ahead of time before I showed up for the appointment as a customer courtesy, ya know to maybe inform me of the problem??? I made a review two years ago and recently since they moved, I felt the need to update it. The new location is much bigger than the last. So thank you to the employees who keep up the amazing cleaning job! And it is always well stocked in every room with essentials so I don't have to feel bad about leaving the room to ask for more towels, etc. This place has been a tanning blessing. I have terrible social anxiety and when this salon moved from lake city to northgate, I was very nervous and anxious to drive to a new area with new employees. One of the first girls I met was Katie. Right when I walked in the door she made me feel like I was seeing a good friend. Side note as well....I've been spray tanning since I can remember and asked Katie on why I'm not getting the results I thought I should be getting. So she suggested a few tweaks in my usual pre spray tan routine and now I have a darker glow. So thank the lord for Katie! Since then every girl I have encountered has been nothing but welcoming. For someone who has social anxiety, it means the world to be able to find a place where I can feel relaxed and want to leave my house to tan. I absolutely love this place!! You don't feel embarrassed or judged walking in like I've felt in some other tanning salons. The employees are super friendly and helpful every time. I had a lot of questions to ask regarding memberships and the types of equipment. They are always interested in my concern or question and go to extreme lengths to make sure they've satisfied me with an answer! They recommend the best lotion that I would enjoy using not for the price but for what I really want. They're not pushy like Seattle Tan was with me trying to get me to waste my money. And they didn't change my package because I used that ones ( 1 session). I said that in case I can pay the difference, it was not a problem for me. It's annoying when you can see them trying to up-sell you. So I appreciate the chill professional atmosphere at this salon. I've been coming to this location for 4 years and it's always so nice walking in because the staff knows you by face and takes great care of you! Beyond being friendly, they do a great job at actually helping you achieve the tan you want and get the products that will work best for you and don't just push sales on you. The salon is always clean and running efficiently and the beds are new upgraded models. My favorite part about this Tropical Tan location that differs from other Tropical Tans is that they have the Versa Pro spray tanning which is amazing! Decided to finally try tanning after being uneasy and skeptical of the idea. I walked in and was immediately greeted by Dani who was very helpful. She answered every question I had in full detail. I'm not very comfortable with people after having finished my military enlistment. Dani made everything very comfortable and relaxing, because of her I will continue to tan at tropical tan. I hadn't "faked-and-baked" since the mid-eighties but I was heading out for a big trip to Turkey last July so I bought a Group-on coupon for Tropical Tan on Lake City. The staff is pleasant and knowledgable. I felt safe with their competency and followed their instructions by NOT being overzealous and allowing myself to burn or get red. Absolutely love this place! Most inexpensive tan around town, the workers are so friendly and helpful, and I saw results after the first session! I also tried the spray tan for the first time and it was better than I was expecting! I received tons of compliments, it was quick, smelled great and I was able to wear white clothes the following morning without any stains or rub off! I've tanned at the Lake City and Alderwood locations and both are great. The Lake City location has a great variety of beds, and I especially love the red light bed. There are always good specials and the staff is very friendly. I'm not sure why another review said they only change bulbs on one side of the bed, because I've never had a problem with them.
