Fast Tango heading for downtown Seattle on a Friday flotilla!
Patrick D.

I've been a member in SSC for about a year. I took the ASA 103 and 104 courses with them. The courses are well run and I learned a ton. What I love the most is that everyone is super chill - in the courses and in the club, no one gets worked up or yells if you do something wrong. I see joining the club as a great alternative to buying a boat. It's cheaper, and you don't have to worry about moorage, maintenance, gas, etc. The only disadvantage is you don't have a boat whenever / wherever you want, so you need to plan ahead a bit more, but that balances out with the lower expense and hassle I think. There are lots of club events you can get involved in if you want, like race series and club flotillas, so that delivers even more value to the membership. I can't believe it took me so long to realize Seattle is a great place to sail - beautiful mountain vistas, long daylight hours in the summer, and proximity to the San Juans and other scenic areas. I've seen sea porpoises, seals, and a whale while sailing in the Puget Sound. It's fair to say I'm hooked.

There is one bathroom and two changing rooms with lockers within the changing shack. We did add rose petals and eucalyptus Epsom Salt The boats run well and had no mechanicals issues whatsoever ever. You feel very stable and secure within the boat. There is room for for 6 adults in one boat, how we husband and I both noted it would have been as comfortable with two more people (we only had 4 in our party). 4 adults allows you to stretch out comfortably so nobody is impeding on another's personal space. We went 8-10pm and that was amazing because we had lots of daylight and then a gorgeous sunset decide floating back in, in the dark. The boats have blue light strips and that looks nice at nice! Great choice for out of town guests to experience the beautiful weather, sunsets. Extra long summer evening and a scenery with a fb post :) This business is consistently a guest fav Very unique. I'm gonna be honest with you, I have a huge fear of deep water. Then why would I purposely get on a…read moreboat cruise. Because fear shouldn't limit you. Booked ahead of time and made my way here at the time I chose. Once here, scan your QR code, get in line and wait until the boat is ready to be boarded. Don't do like other people, walking up to the loading area in the wrong direction expecting to be let on the boat because you are entitled. Once onboard, you will get the safety messages. There are a lot of places to go on the boat. Most will automatically go to the third level, the top deck with all the chairs. Where one might think that you would get the best views. I did this, that is until I felt boxed in and realized I could walk around at free will. Instead I found a place at the stern that gave me better views. I also would transfer to the bow every so often depending on where we were on the tour. This would be the second level, where you could purchase food, drink and souvenirs. The best part of this cruise/tour, I learned more about the history of city than I did on just wandering around. Learned about the history of the city on where things were, why they are there, and deep dives into buildings and companies of the city. The tour starts at Pier 55, and heads north. Going past other piers, waterfront landmarks, and neighborhoods. Seeing corporate campuses, industrial piers, islands, bases, cargo ships, and much more. An hour cruise sure did pack in the history for the city. Plus the captain was entertaining and knowledgeable. Be sure to pay attention during the tour, you'll get the inside scoop on the city and what to seek out when you are exploring.

The highlight was listening to Erin (hope I spelled her name right) who was our tour guide. She was hella funny!! It's almost as if we were in a comedic space yet it was so informative! It was awesome getting to hang out with Captain Jeff in the wheelhouse and for our baby to drive the big wheel. Crew mate Austin was upper friendly as well. The bartender literally saved the day - we totally forgot a cup for our baby to drink milk out of so he hooked us up with a cup and even knew to cut the straw to a shorter length. Hallelujah! The boat we ended up on, the "Sightseer", was not their regular brunch cruise boat but it was still super cool. We didn't mind the family style seating although I think if we were to do this cruise again we'd want to at least try the other boat style just for the experience. The food was excellent and the mimosas were bottomless - as intended. We had a really great time and I could totally see us doing this at least once a year. I highly recommend it.

We were waited on by John and Andrea. They do an amazing job taking care of everyone aboard the vessel. One tip I might give to John is that the phrase, No Problem is a double negative and not very good verbiage for customer service. He was very grateful and said, "Thank you so much" after almost every sentence. He gave us a short rundown of the ship right after we sat at our table and let us know where the washrooms are and how to get to the upper deck. He informed us that we were free to roam at our leisure. We stayed at our table for a bit to take in the ambiance and then before we knew it, dinner was served. I suppose it is fitting as you have to pass through the marina and down a slough with not much to look at before you get to Lake Union so why not spend that time eating. When it comes to the food, I was sorely disappointed. They had a buffet set up with chicken thighs, salmon, mashed potatoes, broccoli, mushrooms, macaroni and cheese, rice pilaf, a green salad and some bread. The chicken was very dry and overcooked. The salmon was very well done and dry as well. The broccoli and mushrooms were also overcooked, and you could see charring on the broccoli, so I assume most of the food was cooked on a grill. My wife liked the macaroni and cheese and we both like the mashed potatoes and green salad. Neither of us had the rice but the bread was okay. After we finished eating, we went to the upper deck to check out the views but by that time, the cruise was half over. The boat doesn't really travel that far in one hour and then they turn around and head back. Outside on the deck, you have an awesome view of the surrounding areas. We traveled underneath a lot of bridges. Ballard, Aurora, Ship Canal and Freemont bridges to be exact. We saw a ton of house boats, gasworks park and a ton of other boaters who were enjoying the water as well. The captain did come over the PA and point out a couple of sights, but I really wish they he'd done more. We're from the Seattle area so we knew most of what we were looking at but there was a couple who were obviously new to Seattle, and I think they would have appreciated a bit more detailed information about what they were seeing. They don't even point out when you pass the houseboat that was featured in the movie, Sleepless in Seattle with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan while you're passing it. The boat was mostly quiet except when they needed to make a sharp turn and then this very disruptive motor would kick on and stop our conversation mid-sentence. Other than that, the ride was relaxing but overall, for the money they charge, I expected more and I definitely expected good food. Adult beverages are priced very high and I was even charged for club soda with cranberry juice. I can't say that I'll be taking any more of the Waterways cruises after this first experience but at least I can say that I've been there and done that.
