Jim was great, and supported by a great family team who made things simple pre- and post-survey.

This is a great way to experience a Seattle sunset. My friends and I decided to do a sunset sail…read moreand was impressed with the overall experience. This sailing was 2 hours long and the stays within Elliott Bay. Sailing Seattle has a fleet of 3 yachts. We were on a their largest vessel, S/V Obsession. This ocean racing yacht was designed by Sparkman & Stephens and was built for training US America's Cup teams. This yacht can accommodate up to 48 passengers and has a total length of 70ft. We boarded from Pier 56 and settled in for the 2 hour narrated journey. Boarding was seamless. The yacht has some non-slip surfaces and grab handles to help with balance and traction. Seats are first come first serve. After a brief safety demonstration on life vests, we set off on our sunset sail. This experience was further enhanced by their BYOB rule. We were allowed to bring our own snacks, wine, and beer. Our sailing path weaved in and out of ferry lanes and we completed some sharp turns, really showcasing the agility of the yacht. We pulled in after sunset providing everyone a beautiful nighttime view of downtown Seattle and waterfront. Service was fantastic. The crew was friendly and efficient. My biggest recommendation when doing the sunset cruise is to layer up (sweater/jacket) or even bring a nice blanket.

Very friendly crew. Captain Phil willingly shared information about himself and the sailboat…read more We got to see a few dolphins along the way. My only regret was not taking drinks with us. I totally missed reading this when we booked this cruise.

Basic course takes three days, then you have to take a test (you always have a retry, but I was…read moretold it is harder than the original one) to get your certificate. After you pay the for Basics course, the new sailing book will be mailed to you. Also, start taking online course, it will help you with basics. Day 1. You learn theory and terminology (about an hour) then you go directly into the water and practice, practice, practice. There were only two students on the boat, I got impression 3 are the max. From 10am till 12pm you learn basics on the water, have lunch, then go back to the water until ~5pm Day 2. Repeat basics, go to the water, learn new stuff, lunch, go back to the water repeat+ learn new movements Don't forget to go through the book before the test! Day 3. Repeat, ask instructor questions that you have, take the test, go to the water and get new tricks! Overall: 1) for non native speaker it might have some light difficulties with terminology, but overall it is not too hard to get it. For native speakers it is easier 2) Spend some time on learning basics online! It really helps. 3) it is fun! SO relaxing to sail. It is a new way to spend your weekend, just imagine having a picnic on the water. Perfect present for your significant other. 4) learning new thing is always encouraging The activity you want to try with no regrets. Julian, the owner and your instructor, knows a lot, treats you with the respect, very professional and knowledgeable. You can't find the instructor better than him. I will be back for more advanced classes for sure!
