Had a great time in the Horseshoe Knife class. This was a really fun hands-on experience where you get turn a half piece of horseshoe into a functional knife. Don't worry if you're a first timer who has never done this. The instructor will take you through every step and will work with you one on one as needed. Looking around the class, most people needed only a little bit of guidance from the instructor. Expect to spend up to three hours but it really goes quick. If you haven't swung a hammer or been to the gym in a while, be prepared for your arm to get a workout. You are banging on hot metal and turning it into something - it takes some exertion! Overall this was a lot of fun and it really was cool turning a chuck of metal into something you can actually use or display. read more

This was such a fun experience! Staff and as great. We did the horseshoe knife and it was great. We were guided through each step. It did seem intimidating in the beginning but the instructors were great. Be aware that it does get warm so drink lots of water and step outside as needed. read more

Booked ring making for five. We wanted to make our anniversary rings with our kids and my mom while she was visiting. The process from start to finish was amazing. Transforming a chunk of metal into the finished product of wearable jewelry was so fun! Nikk was a great teacher teaching us about the process and the metals as we progressed. There are six spots for ring making which is nice not having a ton of other people there. You follow the stepwise process to be safe and end with the proper result. It just so happened my ring making produced a HEART on my anniversary band which made it all the more special. A complete fluke based on how I hammered at the metal, how it pressed and compacted and was carved out and shaved down. Truly special and won't forget this experience! Lawless Forge is a fun and unique experience. It's dramatic with the forge roaring at you as you take a piece of hot metal and pound it on a 100+ year old anvil to make a knife. Spiff, our instructor, made it an entertaining time. He's witty, provides clear directions, and kept a good pace for the class. While I'm a caveman with a hammer and mashed the hell out of the horseshoe, Spiff was able to get it into something resembling a knife again. My husband and I had SO much fun. We'd never done any kind of metal work or forging, but our instructor did such a great job of walking us through every step. We made stainless steel Damascus rings (you personalize it to your size), and honestly I'm amazed at how it came out! We got to heat a hunk of steel up in a 2,000 degree oven, hammer it into a cylinder, squash it into a giant puck in a press, drill holes in it with a standing industrial drill, sand it down to size, finish it with a fine polisher, and then dunk it in acid to bring out the pattern! The hunk of steel was actually two different kinds of steel that they'd folded together, and one strips away in acid quicker exposing the pattern our hammering left!!! It was a wonderful date night, and we'll definitely be back for the rest of their classes! Dress warm in winter, as it's very much a warehouse. Dress in all the layers! read more

Our family has had two incredible experiences at Lawless Forge making cool things and memories to last a lifetime. We forged knives out of horse shoes in a public class with our 17 and 13 year-olds and had so much fun that we went back a month later for a private session to craft new wedding bands for our anniversary. I was SO worried about being in over our heads, but our instructor, Nicc, was incredible; he was extraordinarily patient and has a unique gift for explaining the techniques and materials in a way that just makes sense. He also taught us that we are each capable of way more than we know! Whether you're a local or planning on visiting the area, I can't recommend the Lawless Forge experience enough! read more

This was well beyond my expectations. To start with, the location is awesome! The building sets the tone for the adventure you are in for. Spiff guided us through the fun, we were all laughing, hammering, and forging away! I can't remember the last time I had so much fun making something so cool. This place was awesome and even great for beginners. I went with my bf to the horseshoe knife class and it was the perfect little date night that was way more special than just another dinner date. Nikk was our instructor and he was the perfect teacher because he was clear about safety, tips and tricks to make the process of knife making easier, and super knowledgeable. This experience was AMAZING. Spiff was such an incredible, kind, enthusiastic, and downright hilarious instructor. We went for a friend's birthday party, none of us having any prior blacksmithing experience, and came out with some dope (and stabby) knives! The 6PM slot was great because we were the last group, so we didn't feel rushed at all and were able to get in some nice long water/food breaks throughout the whole process of knife forging. Spiff broke the steps down into surprisingly simple and relatively easy parts, guiding our group of 15 every step of the way. 15/10 recommend this place. My family attended a class on Saturday to make a knife from a horseshoe. I was excited to be doing this with my kids and their kids, extended family and friends. Sean led our class. I was a bit overwhelmed at first with all the instructions but was so pleased when he said he would walk us through each step. This has been on my to do list for so long, but it took me forever to commit and make it in. I'd been hearing about it for years and everyone said how great it was and how much fun they had. I saw this new class on facebook and knew this had to be the one, sometimes facebook advertising is useful. I couldn't really envision that I needed a knife made out of a horseshoe or a bbq poker, the ring class is more than I want to spend, but I do need yard art. This place is a teeny bit difficult to find, in an older building near the train tracks. We filled out the waivers online, but it seemed like we needed to do them again upon arrival. This facility is much larger than I expected, I had thought one class would go on at a time, but it appears that multiple occur simultaneously. It's little cold in the building and they recommend not wearing jackets, but do dress warm, although its true you will heat up when you get working. I appreciate that you get gloves, googles and an apron, but probably don't wear your favorite clothes. Our instructor was Gregana, she was super awesome. The flowers are precut for you, but it still seems like a project to make the flowers your own. It would be nice if there was a little variety in the choices, but perhaps that will come in the future. This class took the whole three hours allotted, and I found it to be reasonably priced at 90$ per person. I've never blacksmithed before and do have a fear of burning myself, but managed to do fine with minimal help from the instructor. This is a bit of a work out if you are not used to using tongues or hammering on a regular basis. I did get a blister, perhaps I wore the wrong size gloves and my arm was sore for a week. I'm super happy with my finished project, my Dad is going to love getting these for his bday. I've gotten many compliments from those I have shared pics with. I do think I will come here again, maybe I do need the ring, or I keep being tempted by the chopsticks. Check it out. read more

In the past few weeks, I've heard of at least 3 different groups going to a blacksmithing class at Lawless Forge - with great experiences all around. One of my children had the opportunity to join a group at the Forge for a middle-grade school trip. At $40 per head this was not particularly cheap but we are so glad he had the experience to participate. All the kids made their own iron hooks. Safety equipment was provided though a few people (like my kid) ended up touching the part of the metal they weren't supposed to touch and getting minor burns. First aid was also provided on site. I never thought my kids would have this kind of experience and I'm so glad that they did! read more
