I like to come here for the free wheel throwing on Friday nights from 6-9 pm. Being able to throw for free (you don't keep the pieces or guarantee that you finish them) is great if you're just looking for a place to practice. They sell various pieces made for donation, and donate to a different cause each month (or week?). However, during this time on Friday, the wheels are all usually full so I would recommend going right at 6. If you're new and you ask for assistance you'll get a great tour and they will work with you to get a wheel. Otherwise, the rest of the times I have gone have been a fail in securing a wheel:( My favorite part about this place is that the neighborhood cat likes to hang around. He's just the cutest little guy and is always working so hard at the front desk! read more

I took a workshop here because I always wanted to try pottery but never did. It's harder than I expected but still fun, I'd like to get better at it. The teacher was nice and encouraging but it's definitely not something you can pick up expertise in one workshop, you gotta go back for more. I made a little cup good for my green tea. It takes a month until your piece is ready, they trim it, fire, and glaze for you. I selected a blue glaze but mine came out white, I'm not sure if that was a mistake or misunderstanding but it's still nice. It's cute and lopsided like me. I'd definitely go back. read more

I have been working at the Clay Corner for 4 months and it is a great community studio. Very well organized, clean and aware of health issues. But what is the BEST is the people. From founder SEAN to Amanda and Alex and Henry and Morgan and Sarah, everyone is kind and helpful. It is also a place where I, an experoenced clay worker, can find my way and finish projects started elsewhere and start new ones. I would like to see more advanced workers, maybe visiting from afar or close, but that too seems possible. This is a great studio and there is room for more beginners or experienced people. Good available clays and slips and stains and glazes. Great tile samples. Most of all, an oasis where touch and imagination can mix! read more

The facilities themselves are top notch, with two large buildings I've never had a problem finding a free wheel. The staff is a highlight, everyone a talented potter/sculptor in their own right and eager to share their learnings through free classes, or just random conversations. read more

Sean's studio provides everything you need to get started with throwing pottery! His classes cover everything from wedging the clay, all the way to glazing it. The space itself has a great atmosphere and your membership allows you time to practice at your own pace, or simply take time for yourself. Sean is available throughout the week and excels at guidance when you seek it, and giving you space to learn for yourself as you like. I highly recommend his studio for all levels! read more

Wonderful place. It really offers everything. I can't recommend enough for beginners. I think you'd have a hard time finding another studio that comes close in regards to hands-on instruction and guidance. I'm a huge fan of the membership format as well. You can work at your own pace, show up when you want, decide what classes interest you, and generally just hang out and work around cool people. The studio itself has everything you need. It's also very low-key with a great group of people who are eager to answer questions if you have any. Sean is doing it right. read more

I've been a member of Sean's clay corner on and off for the last 3 years (usually "off" when work gets crazy). I first joined as a way to meet people since I was new to Seattle, and ended up loving the community and space. I met a lot of great people but also love the business concept of open studio space which worked really well for my chaotic schedule. I always feel like Sean is open to questions/guidance and is really supportive of the work that comes out of the members there by occasionally hosting studio open houses or just overall providing helpful feedback. He also does a great job keeping tools and clay readily available for members. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for independent working space that also provides a supportive community should you want to engage. read more

Sean is such a calm, funny, and kind teacher; exactly what you need when you are just starting out with wheel thrown pottery. We originally found Sean when we were searching for a fun experience to give to our Seattle family for Christmas. Sean helped us put together a 6 person private class that was perfect. My valentine & I recently drove up to Seattle from Portland to have a one time wheel throwing session, & it was AWESOME! Sean squeezed us in last minute & was very expedient in his response. When we arrived at the class, the ambiance in the room was rather secluded & had beautiful glass doors which allowed for some sunlight to come in. This inspired creativity :) Sean was so patient with us, (being first timers), & such a great teacher. We had a Great Time! We messed up quite a bit, but Sean was encouraging & super sweet. I originally joined Sean's with the 2-month membership and I loved it so much that I decided to extend. There are classes every day and the studio is open early morning to late night so you can really go whenever you want. All the classes are included and all the instructors are great too. I love that each class is tailored to you and what you want to learn or need help with. Everyone is really friendly and welcoming and it's a wonderful place to be creative. So. Good. I was referred to Sean's Clay Corner by a friend and she wasn't kidding -- it's really the best spot in town. Your monthly membership includes unlimited classes and studio time, which I definitely took advantage of. And the PEOPLE are AMAZING. I only barely got to know the community at Sean's in my short time there, but everyone was warm, welcoming, helpful, and the perfect amount of snarky. I'm a pottery novice and was glad to find a class nearby. I know Sean from the time I moved into my apartment, where he worked in the leasing office. When he mentioned he was opening a studio and offering classes, I was in! The fact that he will let you keep any of your creations and also fire and glaze them, instead of just sending you hope with 'dirt' is just an added bonus! :) I highly recommend his class to anyone who is looking for something creative and fun, in small classes, with lots of attention from the instructor, then sign up now. I took it up as a way of getting away from screens for a while but I'm hooked. I'm already looking for the schedule for another session soon, even though I'm only half way through. I have cups from weeks 3 and 4 that I am proud of, but never imagined I would get there when I started on day 1. If there's hope for me, there's hope for you! Ha! ;) Sean's passion for the craft is so refreshing. His methods of teaching seemed questionable at first but the results spoke for themselves.
