I studied art at the university level and have found Gage classes to be far superior. And the new building is wonderful! Gage is not just an academy, but a community. Kudos to Director Kathleen Allen for her efforts in establishing Gage in its new location in the Westlake area, the heart of Seattle.

There was also plenty of opportunity to get creative and hand build other pieces. The studio was clean and had solid lighting with the windows and individual lamps. The best part was Instructor Day! He was super knowledgeable, answering questions, helping with wheel techniques, and guiding the class through the learning process, from working with clay to understanding glazes. I had unlimited access to clay during the course so I was never worried about restarting a piece. I was also able to come in and practice on an additional day outside of class time. I'll 100% be taking another class and would recommend it to anyone interested in learning pottery!

They also offer "open studio" hours where you can use the space for an hourly fee if you don't want to sign-up for the full membership. They have quite a few wheels available for classes and general studio use and a fair selection of glazes. We took a bootcamp class to get our start with ceramics and learn the ropes. They offer a wide range of classes from beginner to advanced skills. They have drying areas and a kiln where they will fire your creations. Street parking is limited in the area, but there is an underground garage located right across the street. The underground parking garage does charge a pretty steep per-hour rate however (3 hrs was over $17 as of 2/2023). Overall, a nice space with good people. A great space to learn or practice your ceramics. Definitely worth checking out!

What stood out to me about Seattle Improv Classes, versus the other options, was the outcome-based messaging around building confidence, creativity, and developing one's ability to think on their feet. Seattle Improv Classes is not a templatized series of exercises; in fact, Chad (the owner and instructor) will customize every piece of the class to ensure everyone's unique needs are being addressed over the eight-week series. I had never taken improv classes before, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Each class is two hours in length, and you do a series of exercises in pairs or small groups. From telling bizarre stories on the spot, to miming someone's actions while you're trying to give a speech about a made-up topic, to singing (yes, even the shyest students sang in front of the group), you go on a creative journey that helps give you new insights into your day-to-day life. I don't feel like a changed person, but I do feel like I have more awareness of how to better communicate with others. From improving my small talk skills, to public speaking, I see significant improvement. There was great improvement with some of the quieter students as well. This was an excellent series of classes, and I found them incredibly valuable. Thank you Chad!

She did such a great job directing the party ( a groups of mostly 3 yr olds) and managing the art project! The whole place was very clean and inviting. We had a group of 7 littles and their parent(s). All the children had such a joyful time with the art project as well as the free play time allotted for the 2 hour event. The balance between the art project, free play and personal celebration time was really just so appropriate and perfect. I highly, truly, recommend this for a birthday party. I'm so happy we had our daughters birthday here!
