I've spent a lot of time in Philadelphia and have had many cheesesteaks, so I'm well versed on what…read morea good Philly Cheesesteak should taste like. The quality of the steak and the hoagie roll (has to be fresh and from Philadelphia) being of utmost importance. The first time I had a Charley's cheesesteak (Rosemont Outlet mall location), was due to a recommendation from someone. I'm always hesitant about getting cheesesteaks from random places, because they're just not good. I got the chicken cheesesteak and to my surprise, it was tasty. The chicken was seasoned, bread was good and the fries were crispy. On this particular occasion, I visited the Charley's located on 47th street, in the Lake Park Plaza Shopping Center. This is a strip mall location with other eateries and a laundromat. While there's parking, it can sometimes get crowded, and is always filled with cars. Upon entering, there are a few tables, but the space really isn't setup for dining in . On this occasion I ordered the Philly cheesesteak, fries and a peach lemonade. I do suggest ordering on the mobile app to save time. The mobile app also offers coupons and points earned for purchases made. (A few weeks prior I had a free drink on my account for my birthday. I went in store to order, and had to go back and forth with the counter attendant about if the drink was for a lemonade or a milk shake, as I wanted a milk shake. It was for both, but I wanted a milk shake. All of this would've been avoided if I had ordered online. I hate going back and forth with people, which is why I prefer ordering fast food online- so I don't have to deal with people- but I digress). I had ordered online so didn't have much interaction with the counter attendants, on this occasion. However, my interaction with them was pleasant. The cheesesteaks are pretty good, nice serving size with portions that leave you full. I've also ordered boneless chicken wings in the past, and they, too, were tasty. My favorite cheesesteak on the planet is Max's in North Philadelphia. But when in Chicago, Charley's is my go to for a cheesesteak in the city, for the meantime.

We split the large old School Philly sandwich and a special Kimchi version. I like that they change it up with different flavors. We didn't get any sides or fries with it. The bread is nicely seasoned and toasty, not hard, and the meat and cheese were tasty. We did carryout, they do not have much in the way of dine in. I saw some juices and ice cream, which I will def try when it's warmer out. The staff was professional and friendly. I think there is a tv in there, as it is a 10 or so minute wait for each order. They are in a mini mall so one could wander around, but next time I will order online.

Maybe the staff this time is still in training or perhaps young and inexperienced. Either way, OMG I felt like there was a miscommunication as well as not applying common sense and customer service skills either. The person who rung up my order even threw my receipt in the bag. It's not acceptable and I give room for managing and planning is difficult when you just don't know demand however I trust Chipotle can anticipate such better than reflected. This place is better than the one on 83rd. Parking lot. Fountain drinks Security. Online ordering. Most of the comments call out there poor customer service as well as questionable, predatorial behavior. Stop having people unfamiliar or afraid to interact with people in roles where they have to INTERACT WITH PEOPLE. Typical stuff, not being respectful when presented with ordering mistakes, trying to charge people for silly things like bags for each sandwhich, etc. Things that NEVER happen in white areas. Absolute trash. Poor quality bread that was like a doughy shake. Got the large. Poor quality bread made it a diabetic fright. And it was disgusting. Meat was carne asada. I got a sandwhich that's supposed to be shaved meat. The Sweet Steak is a specific sandwhich. Imagine drinking an Horchata that was made of coconut milk. That's how weird it is to have you try to use your recipe for sweet steak. Isn't from your particular culture. Obviously you couldn't be bothered to research and respect the culture that this sandwhich comes from. Like you're going to tell me how it's supposed to be made? Cruz? Are you from this planet? A coconut horchata, or a buttermilk horchata, or a mayo horchata, or a cauliflower horchata - none of these are what you can get at 99% Mexican restaurant. Is carne asada usually ground beef? Just coming from SoCal it's like you're being deliberately obtuse. Really hope you take the time to think about this. It is absolutely bizarre hermano. You look absolutely bizzare to people with time to think about why you are choosing to make these decisions. Moreover it's disrespectful that you're not even trying to figure out why things are popular the way African Americans cook it. Weird and Trumpy to say the least. I avoided another spot owned by my non-black brothers because of the tendency to get frozen fried chicken in retaurants. It's unfortunate that this place is attempting to profit from the name Home of the Hoagie, a historical black female owned restaurant, yet they only supplicate the experience with poor quality. Didn't even know Home of the Hoagie used cheese. Quality is subtle like that. This place had their cheese sloppily added to the sandwhich. It's like they don't care about the community they are serving this crap too. It's really a bad look. Another "Hoagie" shop I didn't go to was also because the people making the food didn't seem like they even appreciated the food enough to replicate it with the care and degree that made their shop famous. If Mr. Cruz wants my business, take the time to replicate, at least the quality of Home of The Hoagie. All that great customer service doesn't help if your going to sell Greasy Spoon to make that quick dollar. Brought my friend from Europe here thinking it might be anything like Home of The Hoagie on 111th. You lost out on those dollars. Lost on some international good will. He's told his countrymen about Home of the Hoagie. Wanted to see if I could save some time by trying out your spot Cruz. Ended wasting time as the food was sooo terrible. Just feels disengenuous that you take the name to profit from it yet can't respect WHY they are considered the best. It's hard work that got them the coveted title. Else your name would be Cruz's Soul Carne Asada. Threw the 2nd sandwhich in the garbage without opening it. Fries both were the pre-frozen cheap stuff. Fries that I asked for sauce had hardly any! lol This is a greasy pop up. It won't last. Somebody got money, hired people they knew but failed to do anything else that could help their business. Home of the Hoagie is older than me for a reason! They are good. Even after the owner passed away. If you call ahead there's still some wait. After this horrendous experience, I'll wait in the long line, shut my mouth and like it.

The wings were cooked to perfection--super flavorful with an amazing texture. The fries were crispy and seasoned perfectly! Apparently, there's this thing in Chicago where they drown your fries in sauce... OMG, DELISH! The sauce can definitely be overpowering, though, so if you're not a fan of a lot of sauce, I'd recommend asking for it on the side. All of the workers were very friendly, and they worked quickly to get everyone their food. This is a to-go BBQ joint, so be prepared to grab your food and head out. It's a fairly small space, but it was clean. I will say the line was pretty long, so pack your patience, but trust me, the wait is absolutely worth it. Even with a long line, the staff kept things moving and got everyone's orders out surprisingly fast.

I separated each item into 2 separate pans to put half in the refrigerator. The pics give you an idea of how much it is. Great value and the food was amazing. P.S.: On NYE, The line was the longest I've ever seen it. This was the way to go and I froze some for later. Edited to add: catering items are ala carte (no fries). Also, I got both items with no sauce. They typically come drenched in sauce. Paid $9 for a quart of sauce on the side -- not everyone in my crew wanted sauce.
