Typical with urban fast food chains, it's at times "hit or miss" and like Harold's Chicken, it all depends on who is in the kitchen and their expertise. This J&J consistently gets it right. I get wings and fish-jack salmon/whiting and perch and cat at times, and it's cooked right, flavorful but you must ask for heavy lemon pepper if desired. They are lenient with the mild sauce and slaw, and cashier and cook staff are pleasant, knowing me by face and they speak and smile kindly. Hate to bring race into it, but other joints don't tend to appreciate the African American culture when they are Arab or Palestinian but this location, I don't get that voice be. Highly recommend! Place is clean and love the see thru kitchen

I should have seen the signs, it was trash, dirty at the entrance, not so clean on the inside...when I call to inform them I was told they don't get many complaints??! and that they can replace meal if I came back tonight or tomorrow, I informed them I don't live near by,I stay on the north side of Chicago... I will NEVER ELVER go there or any other jj nasty fish.. people who live patronize these businesses on the south need to speak up, stand up for your right to have proper food quality for the overly priced foods. And my meal didn't come with ANY cole slaw, she said it doesn't with the small order, but that not what MENU show, it saids ALL DINNERS SERVED W/FRIES, COLESLAW & BREAD, I guess the bread is referring to the breaded bread fish,, what a ripoff... Smh. that business performe in this manner.... Yesssss, sharks is sooooo much BETTER

It don't touch Harold's .... But when I tell you the best fried chicken that I have ever eaten at any fried chicken restaurant is from this spot right here. Now honestly it's been a long time since I've had fried chicken from here, because they aren't accessible to me, but I did have to look them up to make sure that they still here.... Because I can still taste this chicken in my mouth... And it's not just the chicken The catfish was amazing as well. Now I can't vouch for anything else but when I tell you that catfish and fried chicken , something in the seasoning ...it's just so right. This chicken you don't smother in mild sauce or lemon pepper because you need to be able to taste what they put down. And I'm so mad at this establishment, I am so mad, because they should be bigger, when we are talking about the best fried chicken spots in Chicago they should be right up there with Harold and Uncle Remus, there should be so many locations opened. I wish them all the success because I want to be able to have access to this fried chicken for the rest of my life. Mind you I'm vegan, that's also why I haven't had it in a long time, lol... There are two things that I will break my veganism for and that is a bite of Eat and Run or to nibble on some oxtail. I think I might pay somebody a lot of money to get me some of this... I'll never forget the first time I had it, my dad brought a pan home when I was 12, but I was on a self imposed diet because I had body image issues and I couldn't have any. So cried myself to sleep because I knew that I couldn't stay up and keep smelling that chicken wafting upstairs from the kitchen.

Having nothing negative to say doesn't mean there isn't bad news. The bad news, this chicken is definitely not revolutionary as so many people seem to say or think it is. It tastes nearly identical to Harold's Chicken. This is not a bad thing. Think of it as an expansion of Chicago having yet another impressive place to get fried chicken. A place locally owned and operated.

We did have to wait almost an hour for the food to come out, which was not ideal, but maybe that just made the crispiness of the chicken even more satisfying. We also got a bunch of sides-- out of everything, the coleslaw stood out; the fries, okra, and onion rings were just okay. In total, it was a huge amount of food shared between 4 people and it ended up costing just ~$9 per person (they also definitely gave us more than the 16 pieces of chicken we ordered!) There are only 2 tables inside, so most people do takeout, but we dined in and it was quiet and chill. Overall a solid, very affordable spot for fresh, super crispy fried chicken, if you're willing to wait.
