    Inside the restaurant

I grew up in the area and as a kid I always saw this place and was curious about it. Now as an adult I finally got to try it for the first time and I wasn't disappointed. When I got there it was empty so my order didn't take long at all! The staff was very nice and they keep the restaurant clean so I was happy to see that. I got the combo with the two pieces of fried fish the crab cake sandwich fried shrimp fried clams and fried scallops and it came with two sides. I chose fries and hush puppies. The food came out hot with a couple of sides of cocktail sauce and tarter sauce and the fries were seasoned nicely but not over seasoned. Each piece of seafood was decent sized and I got like 8-9 hush puppies so they definitely didn't skimp on the food. The white fish wasn't my favorite but that's only because white fish is something I have to be in the mood for and usually I prefer white fish to be blackened instead of fried. The crab cake that I got was like 50/50 crab and filler but it wasn't terrible all things considered. My favorites out of everything in the combo were the shrimp and scallops so next time I will most likely order those by themselves. My combo cost $28.99 before tax and I think their pricing is fair considering the amount and quality of the food they give you. This is NOT a gourmet seafood restaurant. This is definitely a hole in the wall so expect that going in but if you are in the mood for seafood I definitely recommend giving this place a try. If you are looking for delivery you can order with them through DoorDash. I will be back to try more things on the menu!

After eating, not commenting would be a mistake! I'm so angry! The food is delicious and beautiful, the staff is friendly. Crab depends on the season, but is also very firm and delicious. Good price. Best crab restaurant local in Silver Spring

Maria and her team pulled out all the stops to feed our team. We wanted a team meeting over lunch and wanted something different. We got a wide selection of platters and shared them in the conference room. Everyone like the food but the stand out was the fried fish!!!

This place definitely looks a little seedy from the street. In fact, deep down that is probably why I've never stopped. Not because I was scurred or anything, but more an indifference with the the seediness unconsciously swaying me away. The small, casual restaurant is more of a market. Actually, I would call it a market that you can eat in. When I entered, I was greeted warmly but the young man at the register. He was so nice and helpful making suggestions, asking what I liked, providing me a menu and even offered me a cup of complimentary seafood soup while I waited to keep me warm. It was a little salty for my taste, infused with an Old Bay flavor and loaded with rice, shrimp, crab legs, corn and rice. I took a bowl of it just to give it a go, but man the woman that came in after me went to town. I mean, this woman went fishing in that soup for an entire platter. Say word, big bird. I decided on a seafood platter with scallops, whiting and shrimp with a choice of two sides; hush puppies and coleslaw for me. The platter ($12.95) was way too much fried food for me. I forgot to ask from the scallops and shrimp broiled, so I just took a little taste of everything, filled up and it still looked like I barely made a dent. I actually liked the taste of the batter and the hush puppies were delicious. The coleslaw...eh. Nothing to write Yelp about. I'm also a fan that their menu says: Seafood in the Buff Big, Fat & Ugly Not at all like your mom.

Food was awesome. We got 12 reg males and some fried shrimp. We got hush puppies and plantains on the side. The crabs were good but a little expensive for the amount given. Service was great and the food was all worth it.

Ok I don't even know how to begin. First of all lazy. Yep I said it ya didn't even try to make fried fish like to be honest I feel like you should pay me reparation for assaulting and insulting my tastebud and my eyes because when I opened the box I wanted to vomit. I ordered from Postmates and I don't know why I didn't check yelp first My goodness this is so gross. What are you doing?? What did you do to the fish that was killed ? This is bad y'all like really really really Really bad. Like what is this? How ? How did you mess this up so bad? What's in the batter? I'm so annoyed. So y'all know I am gonna give it to you straight. You work for your money you deserve to eat from a place that cares to provide you with food that is edible and appreciated. This. Is. Not. It. Seafood in the Buff. Do better. Period! This is the laziest crap I've ever seen. The fish has no taste. None. The batter if that's what we are calling it it bland AF. I put siracha, Texas Pete's , Buffalo sauce vinegar. Shit is bad. 0 stars. You should be ashamed. You deserve every word of this review. I want a refund

    Burnt crabcakes are NOT tasty!
    Franc F.

The customer service is my biggest issue with this "Seafood in the Buff" as burnt food CAN happen. After being told that there was ONLY fried seafood available, we learned it was a lie when we went to pickup our order and saw broiled food was indeed being served and available. Aside from burnt scallops & burnt crab cakes the rest of the food was tolerable at best. I was argued with when I called & explained I was extremely shorted on snow crab legs & did my best to convey about our burnt food. He told me I was wrong & mistaken at least three times being exceptionally rude. My friends were stunned as to how rude the guy on the phone really was to me, as I had it on speaker phone. I grew up in the restaurant business, my granddad would have fired this guy on the spot for how he talked to a customer. (shrug) BAD juju! It was a TOTAL waste of time & effort to order, pay, & pickup. The crab cakes were mostly filler & ours were completely burnt! I did upload a pic of it! Boo-Hiss! P.S. My roommate's cat wouldn't touch the crabcake! My German shepherd and choc lab had no issues with it however. P.P.S. I have had stomach issues most of today, the next day after I ate their food. :( Now my roomie is also having the SAME issues I am. This isn't a fluke and I am Not a happy lady. Boo Hiss X 2 !

Large? This and most were actually small.

Well I am a little disappointed and no I'm not going to say I should expect this from a place in Wheaton if what you promote is your steamed crabs and are proud of that. Keep in mind Wheaton is still in Maryland and the bay isn't that far. So prep, well prep is mediocre at best, seriously lacking on old bay so much I had to use my own. The crabs overall were meaty for the most part and we ordered large. HOWEVER...we barely had any large! Seriously, these crabs were small to mayyyybeeeee medium. But definitely paid large prices. That actually pisses me off considering how much I could have saved just getting small. 2 stars from me to this place is like giving 5 to the best. Seriously, I just about almost got ripped off. For the record we got 30 crabs. Definitely disappointing!

Pretty cool place to eat some seafood. Its very much a hole in the wall kinda place. Not fancy and no AC, open air deal (keep in mind the place is indoors they just open the windows/doors). We had a pound of snow crab legs and 18 male blue crabs. Lets start with the good: The environment was cool, my wife and I like hole in the wall places. I know this kind of place is not for everyone. Very informal, you order at a counter and they pretty much rush you because of the long lines that can form. The seasoning on both kinds of crabs was awesome. The snow crabs were cooked perfectly. The beer was ice cold. The variety of seafood appeared top notch. NOW THE BAD: Asked for butter, none was brought, but the kid apologized after the fact and I concede they were slammed. 2-3 of the blue crabs were entirely filed with what appeared to be gunk/pus, not sure. Not a huge deal as we had plenty of food. Price was a bit high, but not insane. Snow crab is usually 5.99/6.99 at the market uncooked, here you get it for 8.99. Blue crab was 20+ dollars, not worth it imo. Guy taking the orders had broken english and didn't speak spanish so I was out of gas re any questions I might have had. Beer variety is low. But they do have negra modelo which was pretty awesome. All in all I plan to go back this weekend, shot maybe even tonight. If the price was 10% lower this would be a 5 out of 5 worth monthly/weekly visits.

The value isn't great. A pound of Snow Crab Legs for 26.99 and Jumbo Shrimp for 17.99/pound. All in all the food was delish but to spend $100 for two pounds of shrimp and two pounds of crab legs just doesn't guarantee a repeat visit from me. I may try the steamed crabs in the summer if I can't find a better deal.

After negotiations, we ended up with the following: Goat cheese stuffed fig appetizer White lasagna w/ shrimp and crab (one of the specials) w/ roasted veggies. Italian style paella For drinks, my husband got the blueberry margarita and I followed instructions to "ask about our creative mocktails", and ended up with a superlative strawberry no-jito. (It was REALLY good. I want another one. Now. Hub's drink was also tasty but I liked mine better.) Of all the dishes, my favorite was the Italian style paella. Tons of perfectly cooked seafood in a delicious broth with angel hair. Liht and delicious. The white lasagna was also delish but the dominant flavor was the mozzarella; the seafood didn't come through as much with this one. But I absolutely loved the roasted vegetables it came with. Sometimes the simple dishes are the best. The figs were quite tasty, it's hard to go wrong with goat cheese. I think I get dates and figs confused because they weren't quite what I expected but I enjoyed them. The service was friendly and pretty fast. There are still a bunch of dishes there I want to try so I will try to get back on another date night before too long and order something different. Small negatives - it was a tad warm in the restaurant but given that it was HOT A.F. outside, I will cut them slack on that. Also, I wouldn't have minded a small amount of bread with the meal, maybe you have to order it and I just didn't notice? I'm used to a little bit of bread with Italian food so it didn't occur to me to do so but I would have loved to sop up some of the delicious broth from the paella with it.

While the service was friendly, the timing of the food was slower than expected. Our CT's Famous Grilled Caesar Salad arrived about 20 minutes after ordering, and our Crispy Thin White Pizza didn't arrive until about 45 minutes after we placed our order. I was also disappointed to learn that the Tri Color Cheese Tortellini had been removed from the menu, as it had always been one of my favorite dishes here. The CT's Famous Grilled Caesar Salad is still a solid starter. We also enjoyed the Crispy Thin White Pizza, and I liked that it was presented flat rather than stacked, unlike the version at Amalfi Ristorante. That presentation allowed the toppings and crust to shine, while still offering its own distinct flavor. I'd also love to see the Tortoni dessert make a return, even if it's only offered as an occasional special. It was a memorable way to end a meal and would be a nice nostalgic addition to the menu. Overall, the food was enjoyable, but between the longer wait despite mentioning our schedule and the removal of a couple of favorite menu items, this visit didn't quite match the experiences I've had here in the past.

My issue was the food itself as the rice was amazing but did not age well being taken back home for take out, and the chicken and salmon were not as flavorful as a homemade version I would had cooked so there was the blandness. I ended up having digestive issues and got sick for a day or two after eating from here which was disappointing, because the vibe is awesome in this spot and the positive energy is contagious. I felt so relaxed and joyous here. I think the food can be cooked better even though they are generous with excellent portion sizes. I think it is a strong contender for one of the best restaurants in the region if they step the food preparation up. I also did not like this sauce they provided, but it does have better customer service than the typical DMV spots which tend to struggle with the customer service, so they get an A with that making you feel welcomed and respected and not strictly transactional experience, very warm, nice, attentive, diligent, and hard working staff, so they have the bones here, so once they step up the actual food prep and quality then they will be 4 to 5 stars easily.
