The plantains, French fries, veggies and tres leches were all on point. I'm not a huge Mac and cheese fan, but my family devoured it. summary: Don Pollo is a "chain" restaurant of Peruvian chicken and it's got generous portion sizes and tasty side options that are pretty synonymous with Peruvian chicken restaurants. In one word, I would describe Don Pollo as solid. There's a good selection of items on the menu and to me Peruvian chicken spots have become kind of similar to how KFC/Popeyes felt back in the day where families could go in and order a platter-style selection for their family. That's what we happened to do that day where we ordered the rotisserie chicken for a family of 4. The portion sizes were generous and all of the sides (plaintains, fries, salad, and mac&cheese) were tasty. The service is pretty "DIY" where you order with a cashier and everything at that point is on you (bus your own tables). The venue itself was ok. The location is tucked away in a pretty old strip mall and a lot of the restaurant kind of reflects that. The bathrooms felt a bit old and required a passcode to get in. Pretty standard spot. I stopped by Don Pollo after an intense workout at a nearby gym, and I was very impressed with the various chicken items on Don Pollo's menu. For my first visit, I went with a standard chicken stew. The stew was very delicious. OMG, the chicken was so juicy, tender, and perfectly seasoned. The price of my stew, which came with rice and a small salad was about $13. I thought the price was fair for the area. I thought the restaurant was well-maintained, and it was pretty clean. Also, the service was pretty on point. Well, the service pretty much involves ordering your food at the counter, and waiting for someone to call your number when the food is ready for pick up. Since there are a lot of Latinos who visit this spot, they may call your number in Spanish. Overall, this was a pretty decent spot, and I have a feeling that I probably will visit again after an intense workout. read more

Don Pollo of Glenmont, it is located in Glenmont Shopping Center, where is quite old plaza in this area. If you look from outside, you might feel worry the condition of the restaurant but I was surprised a little when I got inside, their dining room is spacious, clean, and comfortable. Staple in my household. Quality and service is consistent and such a good meal for the family

I ordered a half chicken with two sides. The potato salad and beans were somewhat bland. Neither side had very much flavor. I wasn't very impressed with either of them. However, the chicken is more than outstanding. It was tender and falls off the bone. The flavor explodes into your taste buds. Colonel Sanders of KFC fame uses 11 secret herbs, and spices. I don't think Don Pollo stops short of 25. I recommend eating here. The side dishes are not much to talk about, but the chicken is easily in my top five. read more

Their green sauce isn't as spicy and the chicken for the most part is well seasoned but slightly on the top-much salt side... but sall good cause Jesus is taking the wheel... but that's my minor complaint. Their mash potatoes are excellent and while I normally don't like yucca fries... theirs is pretty good. Unless that was a regular stake fry I ate. Nope... it was a yucca fry. My 97th review of 2018 features a business on MD-97 aka Georgia Ave. I live off Georgia in Wheaton, but a little more than a mile up the road is Don Pollo. I knew the Don Pollo in Rockville. I wrote a 5-star Yelp review of them in 2014 and was happy there was one even closer to where I live. I've been a couple of times to this location since moving to Wheaton. One time my then girlfriend & my friend in town from New Jersey went there for lunch on a Sunday in February 2018. My NJ friend had never had Peruvian chicken. Whenever I suggested Peruvian chicken to my g/f, she was like aww, no, let's do something else. I assured her Don Pollo is the best; better than the two we had in Wheaton: Super Chicken (decent, but nothing to write home about) & Pollo Campero (they are weak). I had coupons, and the three of us decided to split a family meal. My g/f said I was right this is by far the best she's had (for Peruvian chicken that is). My friend loved it too. The chicken is tender & juicy. The sides are all really good: rice & beans, plantains, yucca, etc. Most Peruvian chicken places one or two of the items are good, but the others most so much, but EVERYTHING is excellent here. I would highly recommend Don Pollo over any other except for Sardi's, which is also top notch, but Sardi's is quite a bit more expensive. This location is always extremely solid on the quality of the chicken. Also the sides portions are huge, even if the yuca and fries can be a bit crispier. Other than the chicken the chicken soup is very tasty - I can't really comment on the other Peruvian dishes so this review is for chicken and sides only. I visited Don Pollos at this location on the day of their Grand Opening a few years ago. There was a good crowd. I tried several of their dishes and I thought it was just okay. I had a rotisserie chicken dish and sides with dessert. A year later, I had a pulled chicken dish which i thought was okay as well. In both cases the chicken was moist, it was something about the flavor that seemed off. I went today to grab lunch before getting on the road. I noticed two new items, too me anyway, the chicken stew and lightly battered fish with onions and veggies on top. I decided to stick with the chicken. I went with the stewed chicken, rice, and salad for $8.95. You get a quarter chicken with the mean. The stew has a great flavor and nice chunks of carrots and potatoes. The rice was okay. It was just regular rice. I probably would have used a different rice like wild or jazmine. Salad is salad, as long as it is green and fresh, you cant go wrong. I've always loved don pollo, the food is great but the costumer service at this location is TRASH. The lady (cashier) who's at the front the one who does her makeup all crazy, she's extremely rude and it seems like she doesn't want to be there, I will never come to this location again. If you don't wanna go to work just stay at your fucking house instead of making everybody's day bitter. She should be in the back cooking or something or somewhere where nobody can see her. My wife discovered Don Pollo when she taught the owner's children in school, and the food was so good we've been loyal customers ever since. The chicken, sauces, and other dishes are authentic and so is the atmosphere. The enitre family enjoy the rotisserie chicken - always juicy and flavorful - my wife is a fan of the aguadito, and he kids empty the sauces every time we order. I had hoped this would be my go to place and I had given them a couple of chances to show improvements in their quality. Today I even showed the manager a picture I took of a to-go order where the chick was jerky dry from being left in the warmer way too long. Today they disappointed again, got home and the yucas were undercooked, dry and cold. Their fried rice had pieces of egg and green onions, that were probably cooked the nught before. Today 4/19/22 I picked up a whole chicken and i decided to check the receipt to my surprise I noticed that I was charged an additional .65 cents for packaging fee. WTF is a packaging fee? No this is not Montgomery county bag fee that already was added this was additional. Then to make things worse when I arrive home to serve food to my family. the rice & beans side order was spoiled, I didn't even have to taste it. The sour smell as soon as I opened the container was pungent enough for me to just toss the entire meal. I didn't go back to make a claim as it is a bit of a drive for me to this location but Never again. People keep an eye out for this extra charge they are being slick since more than half of us check receipts for food purchases to go. Pretty awesome! Wish I had gotten half a chicken but I also got the soup. The soup is sooooo flavorful! I'm not sure I even needed the chicken in it. Macnchz was kinda bland but awesome with their spicy green sauce and a little added curry powder and black pepper. The chicken is the prize. There is no need for the delicious sauces. And generally with some Latinos, anytime you attempt to correct them, they pretend they do not understand English and respond with nonsensical arguments.
