Have been to other Don Pollo in Gaithersburg and Rockville. But first time here. Got the half chicken with vegis and mashed potatoes. My partner got the Chop Chop Chicken, which is a nice portion of stewed chicken with pepper and carrot over rice and beans and comes with a salad. We ordered and the food came quickly. We enjoyed our meals: the chicken and vegis didn't taste too salty, which is nice. The chicken pieces were large and moist. The mashed potatoes I got were a little dried out in parts of the serving. Place is comfortable and staff friendly. You bus your table yourself. There is a cold water dispenser available if you don't want to buy a bottle of water or a soft drink. read more

My favorite Peruvian Chicken The flavor is amazingly good, I love their slow roasted chicken. Sometimes, I get the chicken alone and other times I need the full meal, with yuca fries, the Peruvian fried rice, CHAUFA. They also have side Latino slaws, vegetables and fries. I sometimes eat a salad meal made with the Peruvian Chicken, which is real good and delicious. I've also like their variety of Latin American desserts like the tres leches, flan, bread pudding, and Latino cookies, ALFAJORES. Every time I eat the cookies, which are made with powder sugar, I end up wearing a lot of the sugar. It is a fast casual place, so you order, and carry your food to your table. The staff are quick and polite, helping you fill your order. The restaurant is low key and clean. If you want something other than fast food, this is a good tasty option. read more

Sign of the times maybe... portions are smaller. The flan was nearly $5 for a tablespoon size container. Ok a little bigger but not by much. The actual food was good and it's probably due to increased prices but we just noticed portions seem smaller. I had passed this Don Pollo Peruvian chicken spot a few times and finally went in. The restaurant is really nice inside and the staff was very friendly. Since this was my first time getting takeout they explained what some of the sides were and gave me some recommendations on what to order for the family. The chicken had great flavor but the white meat was slightly dry (my family and I prefer dark meat). For the sides we tried the Corn Pico, Chaufa (Fried Rice), Plantains, and Black Beans and Rice and they were all really good. I was surprised at the amount of food that we got for the "Fiesta for 4" family meal. Overall the experience and food was really good and I will definitely be back. read more

I love some Peruvian Chicken, along with the delicious sides that accommodate it, so my friend and I decided to grab takeout here at the Don Pollo in Bethesda! I've popped into this store a couple times for lunch or early dinner, and it's usually pretty busy, so the service does their best to power through the lunch rush. In my box, I got the chicken with my two favorite sides: Yuca and sweet plantains, and they were absolutely delicious, especially when combined with the sauces they provide. The chicken itself is also pretty tasty, well seasoned but a bit dry in some parts, not a deal breaker by any means, just needed to lather it up with some more sauce. read more

Two words: yuca fries. Ordered takeout from Don pollo: - ceviche de mariscos (3.5/5) - chaufa de mariscos (4/5) - side of yuca (5/5) - plantains (4.5/5) - bean pico (3/5) -tres leches. (5/5) The portions are very big, we definitely had leftovers after. Make sure to wash it all down with an Inca Cola! This is consistent with my feelings of Don Pollo. Ever since I had their chicken at their Rockville location years and years ago, I've consistently put them on the top of the pack as far as the Peruvian Chicken game goes in the MD Burbs And if you're from the MD Burbs, you'll know that the Peruvian Chicken game is STRONG. You have as much chance of Peruvian Chicken being within a mile Radius as you do seeing a Maryland Flag Crab on someone's car while driving on the road for 60 seconds. This is from my February 2013 review of Don Pollo Rockville: "It's almost as if they have taken the chicken skin off the chicken, fried it, and then delicately sewn it back on to the most tender meat that'll ever caress your palate." I don't feel QUITE the same way about this particular Don Pollo as I did about the one in Rockville 5 years ago; but I do feel that their chicken is definitely MOST solid and their sauces are tip top as well Here's some downfalls of some Peruvian Chicken in the area: 1. Chicken pieces are small: This Don Pollo has big thick juicy pieces of chicken 2. Chicken is overcooked: This Don Pollo definitely does not overcook their chicken 3. Prepackaged sauces aren't fresh: Sorry Sardi's, I'm just not fan of your miniature yogurt packet-like sauces that both squirt on you, and arn't as fresh as sauce made daily. 4. Sides Are Lackluster: These sides are REALLY fresh. Rice and beans is always solid. Yuca is well done. I've recently discovered their Grilled Chicken Salad at this Don Pollo, and I have to say, I'm a pretty big fan. It comes with avocado, tomato, chickpeas, chicken, lots of fresh lettuce, and a pretty solid dressing. Shout out to the corn relish as well! Definitely will be back read more

Been missing El Pollo Loco a lot since leaving San Diego. Although Don Pollo does not fill that void, it has introduced me to a good tasting chicken. Bird was tender and just the right flavor for me. 1.5 stars. Even though this place seems to serve pretty authentic Peruvian food, the quality of everything is pretty average. The customer service, however, is terrible. We walked in and I asked the lady up front some questions in regards to how they cook their food. She was very rude and gave me terrible attitude. At the end of our conversation I ordered the Lomo Saltado. She charged me $3 more than what was stated on their menu. I asked her about this and she said they haven't updated their menus. Ok w/e. I waited 25 minutes for my meal. Man it took a while. While the food looked good, presentation wise, it was, again, average. It came with fries and for some reason they put the beef mixed in with the fries. They were soggy afff. These would have been pretty delicious but they were wet. It was kind of gross. The beef wasn't too bad. It just didn't have enough flavor to it to call it amazing. I like that they gave a lot though. I ate everything in my meal except for the fries. They made me lose some of my appetite. I won't be coming back. I can't deal with their costumer facing workers. Also, food isn't good enough for me to come back. I never trust a Peruvian restaurant that doesn't smell like Charcoal as soon as you walk in. Don Pollo has that authentic "we definitely know what we are doing" scent in spades. They have a variety of chicken platter options and a huge menu. They food is served up quick fresh and hot. The rice and beans are tasty and the chicken always just The right amount of crispy and the right amount of juicy. They have all the sauces and aren't shy about doling them out. They have regular and jumbo sauce if the little Thimble sizes sauces aren't enough. They have amazing Aflajores. What is an aflajore? It's a caramel filled sandwich cookie covered in flour. Don Pollo's aflajores are always fresh, never stale, and just dusty enough to be a good time. There flan was pretty good and I loved the extra cinnamon in the rice pudding. Service is quick fast and polite. There is a ton of free parking. Honesty I came here initially for the chicken but I keep coming back for the aflajores. They almost never survive the drive to my home. read more

This is our go to place for Peruvian chicken that is closed to home. The location of this outpost of Don Pollo empire is right next to Westfield Montgomery mall and this strip mall has enough parking for all the businesses here. The menu is quite basic for the chicken choices, though they have additional Peruvian/ Latin American dishes that will satisfy non-rotisserie chicken customers. Our favorite is the chicken with a couple of sides. We generally stick with plantains and the fried rice. The plantains are perfectly cooked and the fried rice as excellent flavors. Rice is never dry that we see in some Peruvian chicken places. The chicken themselves are marinated perfectly and the skin is crisp and juicy. The meat too is soft and tender and not dry! The side sauces are good too. I do plan on trying other items on the menu, but staying true to chicken keeps me satisfied too :) read more

Peruvian chicken with a side of you don't matter here. As usual food is great, the people aren't. I typically order online, every time I come in they immediately say we don't have it, then they go to ask the people preparing the chicken and follow it up with, "oh yes we do!" Why not communicate a waiting time instead of just saying no, or ask if I needed anything else because I would've bought an Inca cola off the fly. Their loss, there's a beer store next door that sells soda anyway. Delighted I didn't tip online because I would've been just a tad more disappointed, but it has me question why that's even an option when ordering if the first thing they'll communicate to you is "no". Don Pollo is one of my favorite fast casual places in the Potomac area. I love Peruvian chicken and this rotisserie style is delicious. As far as sides go I would recommend the chauffa and black bean pico. The chauffa is a great fried rice. The pio has a great flavor and tastes really fresh. I have not tried most of the other sides but just based on appearances I would not recommend the macaroni and cheese. A friend also tried the talerin Pollo saltado and loved it. The parking here is a cinch as well. Plenty of space in that shopping center or worst case the mall parking lot is directly next to it. The service leaves a little to be desired, but their real focus seems to be on getting your food to you quickly, and it is delicious so that is fine by me! One thing to keep in mind: the online menu is not kept updated so they might not have everything you see on their website in house. read more

Simply put, I love Don Pollo's! Their chicken is always fresh and super tasty, and so are their sides and sauces! I always get the quarter dark chicken with two sides. The black bean pico, corn pico and rice with black beans, seem to be the healthiest sides, and they are very tasty. They have a variety of other dishes other than your basic meal, but I'm on a low carb diet and prefer to stick with the basic meal. FYI, this location at Westlake Drive (next to Montgomery Mall) is always clean and the employees are polite. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I haven't tried the other dishes on the menu, and didn't want to misrepresent. read more

I've eaten here before and decided to try it again. Had the Half Chicken and two sides: French Fries/Rice and Beans. The Chicken was better last time, I could taste more of the spices. It was still tender and flavorful though... The rice and beans left something to be desired but I crushed it. lol. I like their French Fries; they are steak fries. I wish they would salt them though... Their sauces were better this time. The pink sauce was a little bit acidic; glad I asked for an extra one. The green sauce was also better...I could actually taste a bit of heat. They charged me more for the meal than was listed on the menu. It said it cost $7 something but they charged me $9 something. Came here 2 times with a coworker friend of mine for lunch and both times were great. Paying extra for each of the sauces is a pain, but the food is worth going here for. Usually get the 1/2 chicken with a couple of sides. Tastes really good! For around $10-$12, it's a decent meal for a very reasonable price and the portion is pretty big, too. No! I order often through DoorDash, but had never given Don Pollo a try, though I'd seen it as an option. Today, I found myself behind Westfield Montgomery Mall, and there it was -- the first Don Pollo I'd ever seen. As it happens, it was lunchtime, so why not? Well, I'll tell you why not. The chicken? Meh. Bland served with a choice of sauces that did little or nothing to enhance the meal. Small quantities of generic sauce served in those little irritating, thimble-sized plastic cups. The sides? Don't ask! OK, if you insist. The "French Fries"? Soggy and undercooked. Nuff said. The "steamed vegetables?" An unlovingly served, flavorless mish-mosh of cabbage (?), broccoli, carrots and maybe something else. Amazingly, the broccoli was overcooked and the carrots and cabbage undercooked. How did they manage to do that? Well, I don't really want to know. Oh, and the spiffy exterior signage belied the greasy spoon patina of the open kitchen. Not attractive. The good news: I've managed to sample Don Pollo without having to pay delivery and tip for the driver. More good news: I will NEVER have to pay delivery charges and driver tips for Don Pollo. This Peruvian Chicken place is quite a gem. Prices are reasonable for the serving size of the orders and the freshness of the items is always consistent! I prefer the dark meat for the chicken as it tends to be more juicer than the white meat (can be dry at times!). The spices used to flavor the chicken is amazing. Love the sauces provided. Delicious! The place just opened Wednesday! They have outside seating with umbrellas and Latin music playing. Imagine nice warm day, good food, music and coming soon beer and drinks. A tropical concrete oasis. Ha! The place is clean and very open. They have the juicy season chicken, yuca, plantains, desserts, etc. The one thing this place has... self serve specialty drinks Horchata, Chicha Morada and Maracuya!!!!!! Other places do not do that! Parking is plenty for the mini shopping center, but gets busy and becomes limited. The price is by far one of the best around. $12.50 for a whole chicken, no sides. Came here with several co-workers for lunch. I ordered half a chicken, and I regret doing that not because it was a large portion, but because the white meat wasn't tasty. The dark meat was delicious, juicy, and tender; however, the white meat was pretty dry and couldn't finish it. Ordered a whole chicken +2 side combo and paid $4 extra for white meat only. However, when I got home I noticed that they gave me nothing but dark meat. Called and spoke with the person who originally took my order and he told me that he had wrote my name down and the next time I come in to ask for David or Chris as they would re-fulfill my entire order. After going back the next day, they attempted to give me a new whole chicken for 50% off which was not what was promised. They then decided to just give me the whole chicken after they couldn't find any information written down about me. Silly me for not checking the box after I got home a second time. They had given me all dark meat AGAIN. Went to the location again to have it swapped. Orders come with green and orange sauce and they also didn't want to give that to me at first either until I argued with them. Did they expect me to keep the sauce from the day prior? Was I supposed to eat a whole Peruvian chicken without the usual accompanying condiments? Wouldn't make a big deal about it but my doctor advises me to stay away from dark meat chicken as it has more calories and fat. They don't realize these mistakes cost people their time, money, etc.. Also, their steamed vegetables sides are a box filled with 90% steamed cabbage, about 2 pieces of small broccoli and 4-5 diced carrots. 1/5 for the lack of customer appreciation 2/5 for the quality of food I'd recommend the location on Veirs Mill Rd over this one. read more

I am not really used to Peruvian food, this was my first time really trying something besides Plaintains. So for what you pay for you get a ton of food! We ordered a lot of food I had a seafood stir fry platter and it wasnt bad just kind of unseasoned and tasteless. The potato salad had no flavor as well and was pinkish-purple which just looked weird, also the mac and cheese were a bit unseasoned. I don't think this place is bad but I do think there should be some recipe adjustments. read more

So I actually consider myself a Peruvian chicken queen/snob, since I've been eating it for 20 years (since I was 2 ;) THIS chicken...is on a different level. I've been twice. First time I ordered a 1/4 chicken dark with plantains and salad. Today I ordered a 1/4 chicken white with salad and fries. The fries were cooked and salted to perfection. The chicken was really tender for white meat...and literally fell off the bone. I will say that the pricing is a bit higher than most places...but I like that they don't upcharge for plantains or yuca like most places. Also, I like how the mild sauce has a different flavor than the mild sauces at other places. I really really tried to take a picture, but devoured it too fast. Next time. read more
