This is by far the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. And it's consistently the best. Even the worst one I had there is better than other places I've been. And I've traveled the country trying chicken sandwiches. Their Buffalo Chicken sandwich is what I would consider the best version of a buffalo chicken sandwich. Well sauced, perfectly cooked and crispy. I appreciate that their heat scale is accurate, so if you're adventurous and like spice but not to a point where you will regret it later their extra hot is the perfect balance of flavor and noticeable heat. And their fries...I'm a huge fan of double fried fries and they do them well and you get so many! Everything is al a carte but I wouldn't skip the fries as an add on. People have always been super friendly and place is always clean. I have been going to Roaming Rooster for a couple years now. I'm not from the area but fly in every couple months and while I'm here, I am sure to stop there once a visit. Okay, twice...maybe 3 times. It's just that cluckin good.

While the prices ain't cheap, the quality and quantity of their products isn't lacking and is worth every penny. This location inside Pike & Rose has free 2 hour parking!
This is a place I wish it existed in SoCal too. Perfectly seasoned chicken with just the right amount of heat! Making me drool just remembering about it. Order can be placed online and usually ready upon arriving. Their milkshakes are pretty decent too. The inside of the store has multiple seating areas. Garage has free parking and entrance right within to the store. Super convenient especially if it's raining.
There were definitely some things to like about Roaming Rooster - I got a massive chicken sandwich and soooooo many fries for a very reasonable price, and the staff were really nice. My order was taken promptly and the staff at the counter were helpful. I got the mild OG Nashville chicken sandwich and fries, based on the other Yelp reviews saying that spicy was actually spicy. My order took a bit to come out, which was no problem - it was totally reasonable. The only issue was that the music was cranked so high that it was impossible to hear people calling out the orders when they were ready (and I like loud music!). I was pretty excited to try my excellent-looking sandwich and there were literally three people's worth of fries on my plate. I dove right into the fries, which were crispy and salty and would have been wonderful had they not been lukewarm. The chicken had a fantastic crispy coating, pickles, and slaw, and a yummy soft bun. I should have picked medium spicy because my chicken didn't have enough flavor. It was just kind of crispy. I thought the slaw was ok, but had way too much liquid for a sandwich. At one point in time I looked down and there was a puddle of green juice dripping down my arm - not pretty - and it made the bun really soggy. Honestly, I'm not sure I'd go back. It was good but there are so many other fantastic restaurants in the area.
The person that took my order laughed at me when I said that I didn't want my sandwich spicy. So not starting off on the best foot. The sandwich is supposed to come with ranch but damn, can they put some more on so that I can taste it? Lol (pic attached) Overall, not worth $14 for just a sandwich and drink.
I got the regular honey butter chicken sandwich and loved it! roaming rooster has come a long way from their one location in NE DC and the other in a food hall. I haven't had this sandwich in over three years, but it's nice to see that the quality is still the same. I shared the fries with two others and it was still more than enough. The chicken sandwich was fresh and crispy. At medium spicy, it was a great level so be mindful of the spice level you order if you cannot handle spice. Would def come back for another sandwich! Service was speedy and quick. It's very cold in there so we opted to eat outside. Plenty of outdoor seating. p.s. milkshake straw would be a great addition!
Roaming Rooster does not skimp on the spice at all so when you get a spicy chicken sandwich, it is actually spicy lol. I placed a pick up order online as I was shopping in Pike and rose and by the time I walked to the restaurant, my order was fresh and waiting for me. I got the spicy Nashville hot sandwich, spicy wings and fries. The heat was definitely kicking and I had to douse the sandwich in the rooster sauce to help balance the flavors but it was still good. If you can't do spice, I would recommend the mild. The fries are similar to five guys and they give a generous portion as well.
When I walked in, it was a little confusing because people were waiting for their food at the register so it looked like folks were in line. When I asked, they said they were waiting so I went to the register to order and was ignored. I was not greeted or acknowledged. I continued to wait for awhile. Finally an employee said ahuh what do you want to order. I placed my order. When it was ready, I will have to say my sandwich was hot and fresh. The coleslaw definitely has more of a lively flavor, you can tell it has cilantro, very light on Mayo, it had a refreshing taste. I didn't like the seasoning on the breading that the chicken had. My fries were cold, which they did forget to give me and I had to go back and ask for me. The tables were all dirty, I moved around a few times and had to clean each table I sat on. Oreo milkshake was very delicious, the ice cream they use is very creamy. In my opinion, the place wasn't anything special. Typical fast food, reminded me of Five Guys but Five Guys is better. Employees weren't friendly or professional. I speak Spanish so I could hear what they were saying. The food wasn't good in my opinion. I wouldn't go back. Not clean, there were cleaning supplies at the stairs, surprised it wasn't put away in a closet or out of customers way.
Fast online ordering for pick up! I ordered the Honey Butter Chicken Sandwich (Mild) and Nashville OG Chicken Sandwich (Medium) which said 15 minute lead time but they texted me saying order would be ready earlier. The sandwiches were huge and flavorful. My husband said the medium was spicy and had his lips tingling. My sandwich wrapper was covered in grease but I'd rather have it there than on my hands or sandwich.
Was hanging out with my best friend and he mentioned a chicken spot he loved called Roaming Rooster. There just happened to be one closed by we swung by. I had seen this spot before and always wanted to try it. I got the OG Nashville. I went with medium heat since it was my first time so I could gauge their heat level. For me, medium had the right amount of kick without making me sweat. The chicken was fried perfectly (crispy on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside). The slaw on the sandwich was really good and a perfect combination to cool the heat. The sandwich was substantial so bring your appetite. The fries were really good also. Note that they give you a LOT of fries. One order is enough for two to share. It was on par with my favorite chicken sandwich shop called "The Bird" I used to go to in San Francisco when we used to live in the Bay Area. I picked up some chicken tenders for my daughters (9 and 11) who are chicken tender/nugget connoisseurs and they gave it high marks (with the exception of the pickle....they are not pickle fans). I do appreciate that their food is made to order so there is a little wait but when you get it it's freshly made. Overall a great experience and I will definitely be back.
I want to like this place. But I either ordered the wrong spice or they used the wrong level on my order. I can usually take my spice, but this one was just too much. It's very subjective, because spice is really relative to everyone. There's no objective scale. I ordered a medium bc I usually consider a mild as no spice. I should have read the descriptions a bit more. I usually order a medium spice any place place I go. However, this time, the sandwich was inedible. I couldn't even eat it, which says a lot. I thought it was just the chopped jalapeños in the slaw that was adding the heat but it was the actual chicken too. The fries came in this large cup, with its own bag. So the fries are huge, if you're thinking about fries. The staff was not exactly friendly, but they weren't rude either. They for sure could have been nicer, they just seemed irritated for some reason. If I came back I'd get the mild.
Walking around the Pike & Rose area and at the time, knew this place had opened recently at the time I visited. Since we wanted to try it, we did. I think I had ordered the Honey Butter Sandwich, Fries, and an Oreo Milkshake. You decide on the heat level in which your sandwich will be smothered in. When you get your receipt after purchase, I think there is a number or your name that they call out when your food is ready (I don't remember, but it is one of the two). When mine was called out, I discovered my sandwich was spicy instead of mild. Not to worry, as I went back to them and informed them. They ended up remaking it the correct way, I ordered it. The fries are served to you in a bag - it is A LOT of fries. The sandwich was oozing out a lot of the sauce, so you have to eat it without really making a mess which was impossible. I didn't get a wow factor in eating the overall meal. The milkshake was good. Maybe it was an off-day.
I never crave fast food but was craving fast food after my work! It was super good! I got the honey butter hot sandwich! I overall think I shouldn't have gotten it hot as it didn't mix well with that particular flavor. Still super good but would get a different flavor and hot profile next time! Wow damn they gave us soooo much fries for the price. I couldn't finish them. The people were super fast who worked there and it was really clean! It was a fast casual place with easy parking!

Ehhh...I was hoping for something better but got just ok. Located in Pike and Rose off Old Georgetown Rd, it's situated in a really good area. I went around 6 pm on a Saturday and it was pretty empty at the time. There are kiosks that you can order at or you can order at the counter. I ordered the 3 wings (whole) and a side of fries. I didn't have to wait long and when I got my bag the food was hot!!!! I probably should have gotten what they are known for (chicken sandwiches) but I wanted wings badly. The fries were good but could've used just a little more time in the grease to make them a bit crispier. The wings were served hot and fresh out the grease. I was expecting great and got just ok. The wings lacked flavor and could have been fried a tad bit longer for a crispier bite. I was almost afraid that they were undercooked, so I ate only one wing out of caution. I will go back, but only for reputable menu items and not the wings. Also...the restaurant was fairly clean (likely bc it was empty) but could have used a once over as it appeared that the dining floors were swept but the dirt was left in a corner; this could appear as if the restaurant wasn't a tidy as it needed to be. Overall, I'll give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. read more
I dropped by Roaming Rooster because I was having a fried chicken craving, and I wanted to try something a bit new. Although I've seen quite a few Roaming Roosters sprout up in the area, I figured that it was time to try out the food. For my order, I went with the chicken tenders (3-4 pieces) and a cup of fries. The order was about $14 without tip. I thought the portion size of the tenders and fries were pretty good based on what I have received from other chicken spots in the area. An order of fries is about four bucks (I didn't see any combo meals on the menu), but you will receive A LOT of fries. If you are dining with someone, you might want to split an order of fries unless you are super hungry. The tenders, which have three spice levels (mild, medium and hot) will come out PIPING hot, which is a good thing. I even had to wait a few minutes to eat the chicken because the food was so hot. I guess this definitely is a good thing if you are doing take out because the food will not be cold as ice by the time you arrive home...depending on how far you live from the restaurant. Overall, I thought the food was delicious, and the spice level of medium just was what I was looking for. I thought it was kind of funny/interesting that the chicken tenders were served on a plain white piece of bread with three pickles, but I guess that's just how Roaming Rooster does it. Perhaps, the bread is there to soak up some of the oil from the chicken, which I guess is a good thing. The fries were pretty awesome because they reminded me a bit of the fries from Five Guys, which I LOVE. Service was fine. One of the workers seemed to be a bit grumpy, but the woman who took my order had a nicer attitude. I stopped by around 6/7 pm so maybe the worker was just over their workday...a mental state that probably all of us has experienced on multiple occasions. The restaurant has a decent dining area with a small outdoor section (I believe there is an upper dining area too). Personally, I was not a fan of the outdoor dining section because it shares a walkway where customers/delivery people are entering and leaving the restaurant. read more
Decent spot for food in Bethesda area. The chicken is solid although in my opinion a little pricey. Got the honey butter chicken and box of tenders with a lemonade. The marks off are for the restaurant. When we went it was a little messy from previous customers when eating inside. Parking might be tough depending how busy it is FYI. read more

8.9.22 After seeing so many raving reviews, my colleagues and I were kinda disappointed. It was just average so we weren't sure what all the hype is about. One colleague got the wings and said they were dry. Another colleague got the buffalo sandwich and said it was all right. He got the milkshake and said they should provide larger straws. I got a mild OG Nashville with the slaw and rooster sauce on the side. The sandwich was big, kinda pricy at $9.99 since sides and drinks are sold separately. I also got an iced tea which tasted awesome. A side of fries was $4.39 and large enough to be split among 3 people. Unbeknownst to us, the AC was down so it felt like a sauna. We were sweating profusely. Staff who took our order was friendly and helpful and our food came out super fast. Between the average food and no AC my first visit unfortunately wasn't a favorable one. read more
This is a popular DC hot chicken sandwich spot. I'm so happy I no longer have to go all the way into the city to get some. My favorite is the OG Nashville Hot. I love spicy and that's enough for me. I think I could do the extra hot but I don't think I would be able to enjoy it as much. You also have to take into consideration that there are jalapeños in the coleslaw, which is delicious. I could do with more pickles in my sandwich but I'm also a huge fan of pickles. You can always ask for more. The fries are reminiscent of Five Guys fries but crispier. Get some with a side of rooster sauce. Rooster sauce tasted like a spicy mayo but with a little extra uumph. The honey butter is dangerously good. I'm glad I asked for it on the side because I wanted to dip everything into it. I'm so glad we have a Roaming Rooster and I think a lot of other people will appreciate its presence in Pike & Rose, especially after a few drinks. read more
OG Nashville Chicken Sandwich (Medium) 6/10 - pictures look better than it tastes - chicken was very dry and not hot, felt that this was already sitting out for a bit - would've liked the coleslaw w/ more sauce Heard the chicken sandwiches were good, but I was pretty disappointed. I would've rather gone to Popeyes for a chicken sandwich. The fries and sauce were great though~. read more
Honestly this is more of a 3.5/5 stars. I went on a rainy weekend for lunch and it took over 20mins to get my food. Was hoping the tenders were much bigger for it's price as well. The food was still delicious but disappointed overall. However I must say the roaming rooster at the other locations is just as slow as well but they are way more busier than is one so not sure what is going on there read more
After the opening and the hype going down with long lines, I was able to visit this location. And it's a pretty small spot even though they do have another floor for upstairs seating. Good was great! Hot is spicy but it builds up as you continue eating, rather than a first bite, then BOOM it hits. I definitely was sweating! Fries were pretty good too. Reminds me of 5Guys fries and Boardwalk fries and it is a combo of both. The portions for fries was a good amount! And the size of the sandwich wasn't too bad. Just a bit pricey. read more

I "assumed" Roaming Rooster was just another chicken spot but I was gladly wrong! The service was very welcoming and patient while we tried to figure out our choices... I was stuck because I saw they offered shakes and was willing to not eat just for the milk shake... don't judge lol .. but the chicken was extremely juicy, full of flavor and enough fries to share with at least 3 people.. the ambiance was cool just the floors could've used some attention. This place is so goood! Sandwiches are FULL of chicken that's always perfectly cooked. Juicy, crispy and delicious. You can't go wrong with any of the sandwiches but buffalo is probably my favorite. I like spicy food but their medium spice level is perfect, has a kick but doesn't overpower the flavor. The side of fries is large enough to share between 2 people. The price is reasonable for the fresh quality of chicken and location in Pike and Rose. Their chicken is halal which makes it a great option for many people. Love it! read more
I had the mild honey butter chicken sandwich with lettuce and tomato ($11.50) and an order of fries ($5). The service was okay. The mild honey butter chicken sandwich was mid and is not at all worth the $11.50 price tag. The sauce that they have was really good and ended up bringing the chicken sandwich to a higher level. You get an over abundance of fries which is good but the fries weren't really seasoned at all so they weren't good to me. All in all, The food experience was overpriced and mid and I would not return or recommend. You are better off getting a chicken sandwich from chick fil a, popeyes, shake shack, etc. read more
Soooo happy Roaming Rooster opened a location closer to me! Most of them are in the D.C. area so I haven't had the opportunity to check the place out until now. I did online order through ToastTab to pick up. When I stopped by on a early evening weekday, it was crowded! Note that the pick up area is the same area as the cash register. It's a pretty small ish place and this is a pretty casual fast food joint. I got the oreo shake, fries x2, honey butter sandwich x2 and OG Nashville. Somehow though I didn't get the 2nd rooster sauce like I was supposed to for my fries. The rooster sauce is creamy yet sour, utilizing pickle juice as the base. In addition, for the two honey butter sandwich, both were requested with medium spice, yet one was SUPER SPICY while the other wasn't. Definitely some inconsistencies there. I consider myself to have a pretty high ish tolerance to spiciness too, so I was surprised how spicy their sandwiches can be - they don't mess around with the spiciness levels! This place has good potential, and I hope it works out the kinks regarding the spice leve inconsistency and double checking to make sure I got everything in my order, sauces included. Food ratings: Oreo shake = 5. Reminds me of potbelly's oreo shake - thick and not toooo sweet or artificial. Honey butter = 3 and 5. I got both medium spice, to share with others. Yhe first sandwich was SUPER SPICY!!!! while the other was mild ish. I don't know what caused the inconsistency, but I was sweating bullets. Roaming rooster does not mess around with spicy or extra spicy so beware! Since it was so spicy and not what I'd expected, I couldn't enjoy the first sandwich. For the second one, it was good with a fluffy bun, sweet notes from honey butter, and the chicken itself was crunchy and not dry on the inside. Fries = 4. Pretty good for a chicken sandwich place. Menu is very simple, but not sure if you can customize any of the items. Only downside was the long ticket time. Took us about 20 mins to receive our meal. This is probably due to them being new so hopefully it gets better. I got the buffalo sandwich. I was unsure of the blue cheese in it but you can't even taste it, which was great! They also loaded us with lots of fries. read more
Clean, attractive location with fast service and kind staff. I am giving this a 3 stars for the taste of the food. I had high expectations given its popularity. I tried their honey butter chicken sandwich with medium spice level. It had good heat, but I felt the chicken could've been even more seasoned. The flavor was just okay and I couldn't get myself to finish it. I felt if I ate the whole thing my stomach would get upset. Too salty/buttery and greasy for my liking. But, this was me trying a place outside my usual kind of food spots. If you are into fried chicken or fried chicken sandwiches, this is your place. I personally think other places season their chicken better. read more

I was really excited for Roaming Rooster to open in Pike and Rose. I've tried their sandwiches before in DC. The fried chicken is cooked very well, not dry and just massive. Toppings are loaded in sandwiches. Only issue with Roaming Rooster though, and it's a big one, is that the spice levels are ridiculously inconsistent. I've got a pretty high spice tolerance growing up on Indian and Thai food, but this time I went I ordered a medium (2 out 4 spice levels) and it was barely edible. The spice was great, if I ordered the extra hot inferno level, but that's not what I wanted. My friend had a mild sandwich and it tasted the same. There just isn't any consistency with the spice levels. Bottom line: solid chicken sandwich, but if it is your first time and you are spice intolerant, I recommend going mild. read more

RR has been on just about every list for "best chicken sandwiches in the DMV" for years now, but it took an opening in the M part of that oust for me to finally get here. I went with the honey butter sando at medium heat because I'm a bit of a baby and a side of fries because who wants to break up the sando and fries pair at this point in their relationship? First impresh: the regular size fries are huge enough to feed everyone in a ten block radius, and get yourself some napkins because honey and butter aren't known for being things that leave your hands clean. The skin-on fries were a little greasy and salty (in the best ways) but still had big potato flavor, sort of like Boardwalk fries but without an ill-advised drive to Ocean City, and were great with the Fancy ketchup packets and leftover honey mustard sauce. The sandwich was dripping honey butter, great fry on the chicken with a clean, quality, moist bird inside. The heat was there but pretty mild overall, and along with some honey mustard, made for a bunch of great bites. Overall, an auspicious beginning and looking forward to trying a more heat-forward sandwich. read more

When I heard Roaming Rooster was opening up in MOCO, I ran to go try! It's located on the outside parts of pike and rose. The location was small but had a two levels for dining. We ordered two OG Nashville (one medium and one hot) and their twice fried fries. I will say the chicken sandwich wasn't anything special. It was definitely spicy even for medium. My boyfriend got the hot and that was way too spicy for me. We both agreed that the chicken was lacking seasoning and flavor. The only thing I could taste in my sandwich was the pickle and slaw. It was just spicy to me. I was also disappointed by the fries too. They were a bit soggy and wasn't crispy like I would expect twice fried fries to be. read more
