Ehhh...I was hoping for something better but got just ok. Located in Pike and Rose off Old Georgetown Rd, it's situated in a really good area. I went around 6 pm on a Saturday and it was pretty empty at the time. There are kiosks that you can order at or you can order at the counter. I ordered the 3 wings (whole) and a side of fries. I didn't have to wait long and when I got my bag the food was hot!!!! I probably should have gotten what they are known for (chicken sandwiches) but I wanted wings badly. The fries were good but could've used just a little more time in the grease to make them a bit crispier. The wings were served hot and fresh out the grease. I was expecting great and got just ok. The wings lacked flavor and could have been fried a tad bit longer for a crispier bite. I was almost afraid that they were undercooked, so I ate only one wing out of caution. I will go back, but only for reputable menu items and not the wings. Also...the restaurant was fairly clean (likely bc it was empty) but could have used a once over as it appeared that the dining floors were swept but the dirt was left in a corner; this could appear as if the restaurant wasn't a tidy as it needed to be. I dropped by Roaming Rooster because I was having a fried chicken craving, and I wanted to try something a bit new. Although I've seen quite a few Roaming Roosters sprout up in the area, I figured that it was time to try out the food. For my order, I went with the chicken tenders (3-4 pieces) and a cup of fries. The order was about $14 without tip. I thought the portion size of the tenders and fries were pretty good based on what I have received from other chicken spots in the area. An order of fries is about four bucks (I didn't see any combo meals on the menu), but you will receive A LOT of fries. If you are dining with someone, you might want to split an order of fries unless you are super hungry. The tenders, which have three spice levels (mild, medium and hot) will come out PIPING hot, which is a good thing. I even had to wait a few minutes to eat the chicken because the food was so hot. I guess this definitely is a good thing if you are doing take out because the food will not be cold as ice by the time you arrive home...depending on how far you live from the restaurant. Overall, I thought the food was delicious, and the spice level of medium just was what I was looking for. I thought it was kind of funny/interesting that the chicken tenders were served on a plain white piece of bread with three pickles, but I guess that's just how Roaming Rooster does it. Perhaps, the bread is there to soak up some of the oil from the chicken, which I guess is a good thing. The fries were pretty awesome because they reminded me a bit of the fries from Five Guys, which I LOVE. Service was fine. One of the workers seemed to be a bit grumpy, but the woman who took my order had a nicer attitude. I stopped by around 6/7 pm so maybe the worker was just over their workday...a mental state that probably all of us has experienced on multiple occasions. The restaurant has a decent dining area with a small outdoor section (I believe there is an upper dining area too). This is by far the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. And it's consistently the best. Even the worst one I had there is better than other places I've been. And I've traveled the country trying chicken sandwiches. Their Buffalo Chicken sandwich is what I would consider the best version of a buffalo chicken sandwich. Well sauced, perfectly cooked and crispy. I appreciate that their heat scale is accurate, so if you're adventurous and like spice but not to a point where you will regret it later their extra hot is the perfect balance of flavor and noticeable heat. And their fries...I'm a huge fan of double fried fries and they do them well and you get so many! Everything is al a carte but I wouldn't skip the fries as an add on. People have always been super friendly and place is always clean. I have been going to Roaming Rooster for a couple years now. There were definitely some things to like about Roaming Rooster - I got a massive chicken sandwich and soooooo many fries for a very reasonable price, and the staff were really nice. My order was taken promptly and the staff at the counter were helpful. I got the mild OG Nashville chicken sandwich and fries, based on the other Yelp reviews saying that spicy was actually spicy. My order took a bit to come out, which was no problem - it was totally reasonable. The only issue was that the music was cranked so high that it was impossible to hear people calling out the orders when they were ready (and I like loud music!). I was pretty excited to try my excellent-looking sandwich and there were literally three people's worth of fries on my plate. I dove right into the fries, which were crispy and salty and would have been wonderful had they not been lukewarm. The chicken had a fantastic crispy coating, pickles, and slaw, and a yummy soft bun. I should have picked medium spicy because my chicken didn't have enough flavor. It was just kind of crispy. I thought the slaw was ok, but had way too much liquid for a sandwich. I haven't had this sandwich in over three years, but it's nice to see that the quality is still the same. I shared the fries with two others and it was still more than enough. The chicken sandwich was fresh and crispy. At medium spicy, it was a great level so be mindful of the spice level you order if you cannot handle spice. Would def come back for another sandwich! I placed a pick up order online as I was shopping in Pike and rose and by the time I walked to the restaurant, my order was fresh and waiting for me. When I walked in, it was a little confusing because people were waiting for their food at the register so it looked like folks were in line. When I asked, they said they were waiting so I went to the register to order and was ignored. I was not greeted or acknowledged. I continued to wait for awhile. Finally an employee said ahuh what do you want to order. I placed my order. When it was ready, I will have to say my sandwich was hot and fresh. The coleslaw definitely has more of a lively flavor, you can tell it has cilantro, very light on Mayo, it had a refreshing taste. I didn't like the seasoning on the breading that the chicken had. My fries were cold, which they did forget to give me and I had to go back and ask for me. The tables were all dirty, I moved around a few times and had to clean each table I sat on. Oreo milkshake was very delicious, the ice cream they use is very creamy. In my opinion, the place wasn't anything special. Typical fast food, reminded me of Five Guys but Five Guys is better. Was hanging out with my best friend and he mentioned a chicken spot he loved called Roaming Rooster. There just happened to be one closed by we swung by. I had seen this spot before and always wanted to try it. I got the OG Nashville. I went with medium heat since it was my first time so I could gauge their heat level. For me, medium had the right amount of kick without making me sweat. The chicken was fried perfectly (crispy on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside). The slaw on the sandwich was really good and a perfect combination to cool the heat. The sandwich was substantial so bring your appetite. The fries were really good also. Note that they give you a LOT of fries. One order is enough for two to share. It was on par with my favorite chicken sandwich shop called "The Bird" I used to go to in San Francisco when we used to live in the Bay Area. I picked up some chicken tenders for my daughters (9 and 11) who are chicken tender/nugget connoisseurs and they gave it high marks (with the exception of the pickle....they are not pickle fans). When you get your receipt after purchase, I think there is a number or your name that they call out when your food is ready (I don't remember, but it is one of the two). When mine was called out, I discovered my sandwich was spicy instead of mild. Not to worry, as I went back to them and informed them. They ended up remaking it the correct way, I ordered it. The fries are served to you in a bag - it is A LOT of fries. The sandwich was oozing out a lot of the sauce, so you have to eat it without really making a mess which was impossible. One colleague got the wings and said they were dry. Another colleague got the buffalo sandwich and said it was all right. He got the milkshake and said they should provide larger straws. This is a popular DC hot chicken sandwich spot. I'm so happy I no longer have to go all the way into the city to get some. My favorite is the OG Nashville Hot. I love spicy and that's enough for me. I think I could do the extra hot but I don't think I would be able to enjoy it as much. You also have to take into consideration that there are jalapeños in the coleslaw, which is delicious. I could do with more pickles in my sandwich but I'm also a huge fan of pickles. You can always ask for more. The fries are reminiscent of Five Guys fries but crispier. Get some with a side of rooster sauce. Rooster sauce tasted like a spicy mayo but with a little extra uumph. The honey butter is dangerously good. I'm glad I asked for it on the side because I wanted to dip everything into it. After the opening and the hype going down with long lines, I was able to visit this location. And it's a pretty small spot even though they do have another floor for upstairs seating. Good was great! Hot is spicy but it builds up as you continue eating, rather than a first bite, then BOOM it hits. I definitely was sweating! Fries were pretty good too. This place is so goood! Sandwiches are FULL of chicken that's always perfectly cooked. Juicy, crispy and delicious. You can't go wrong with any of the sandwiches but buffalo is probably my favorite. I like spicy food but their medium spice level is perfect, has a kick but doesn't overpower the flavor. The side of fries is large enough to share between 2 people. The mild honey butter chicken sandwich was mid and is not at all worth the $11.50 price tag. The sauce that they have was really good and ended up bringing the chicken sandwich to a higher level. Soooo happy Roaming Rooster opened a location closer to me! Most of them are in the D.C. area so I haven't had the opportunity to check the place out until now. I did online order through ToastTab to pick up. When I stopped by on a early evening weekday, it was crowded! Note that the pick up area is the same area as the cash register. It's a pretty small ish place and this is a pretty casual fast food joint. I got the oreo shake, fries x2, honey butter sandwich x2 and OG Nashville. Somehow though I didn't get the 2nd rooster sauce like I was supposed to for my fries. The rooster sauce is creamy yet sour, utilizing pickle juice as the base. In addition, for the two honey butter sandwich, both were requested with medium spice, yet one was SUPER SPICY while the other wasn't. Definitely some inconsistencies there. I consider myself to have a pretty high ish tolerance to spiciness too, so I was surprised how spicy their sandwiches can be - they don't mess around with the spiciness levels! This place has good potential, and I hope it works out the kinks regarding the spice leve inconsistency and double checking to make sure I got everything in my order, sauces included. I was really excited for Roaming Rooster to open in Pike and Rose. I've tried their sandwiches before in DC. The fried chicken is cooked very well, not dry and just massive. Toppings are loaded in sandwiches. Only issue with Roaming Rooster though, and it's a big one, is that the spice levels are ridiculously inconsistent. I've got a pretty high spice tolerance growing up on Indian and Thai food, but this time I went I ordered a medium (2 out 4 spice levels) and it was barely edible. The spice was great, if I ordered the extra hot inferno level, but that's not what I wanted. My friend had a mild sandwich and it tasted the same. There just isn't any consistency with the spice levels. Bottom line: solid chicken sandwich, but if it is your first time and you are spice intolerant, I recommend going mild. read more

RR has been on just about every list for "best chicken sandwiches in the DMV" for years now, but it took an opening in the M part of that oust for me to finally get here. I went with the honey butter sando at medium heat because I'm a bit of a baby and a side of fries because who wants to break up the sando and fries pair at this point in their relationship? First impresh: the regular size fries are huge enough to feed everyone in a ten block radius, and get yourself some napkins because honey and butter aren't known for being things that leave your hands clean. The skin-on fries were a little greasy and salty (in the best ways) but still had big potato flavor, sort of like Boardwalk fries but without an ill-advised drive to Ocean City, and were great with the Fancy ketchup packets and leftover honey mustard sauce. The sandwich was dripping honey butter, great fry on the chicken with a clean, quality, moist bird inside. The heat was there but pretty mild overall, and along with some honey mustard, made for a bunch of great bites.
