The app prompts you not to pay until you get there as you may not have a spot even if you already pre-paid. Pros: bathroom facilities and outdoor showers Snack bar if needed Parking cheaper compared to other beaches on the Cape For us this beach was much closer to where we were staying. Cons: Water was freezing(mid 60s). This may be also viewed as a pro as it felt really cooling after being in it but does take time to get used to. The kids in the group had a hard time venturing any further than knee height. Walk to and from parking lot/ bathroom was a little long. The sand can be a little pebbly. read more

I live in MA and drove 1 hour to Scusset Beach during the 2nd week of July, 2026. The weather was perfect - perfect for a beach day : hot, sunny, clear blue sky. The beach itself was nice enough: decent sand, not rocky, not an over abundance of seaweed. That's where the enjoyment ended. That beach had a constant barrage of biting flies that annoy the crap out of you. They are small, relentless,painfully bite, and leave itchy marks where they bite. We stayed for 3 hours to try to get our $14 (parking fee) worth but after that, we left. I'll never go back since I now know those biting flies are an issue there and have been for years. Two thumbs down and I cannot recommend Scusset Beach to any beach goer who wishes to have a lovely day at the beach. Side note : the water was so cold also, with zero waves and contained floating seaweed. Terrible. read more

Beautiful beach. Sign at entrance that was terrifying; all about the sharks and how to avoid them but we went anyways. Water was very clear and I don't see that too much around here so that was pleasant. Snack shop was open as well as bathrooms. All very convenient. Had a great day with my 4 yr old granddaughters so enjoyed it very much. The loved sitting at edge and letting the minimal waves come over them. Very nice family friendly beach. read more

Great place to camp if you are in an RV or trailer, only five tent sites available. You can not put a tent in a RV site. Great place to bring a family. 5 minute walk to the beach or canal bike trail. Bathrooms are clean and bright. Beware of poison ivy it is everywhere. read more

As a beach, this place SUX. Too many rocks. So you can't lie down on your towel and sun bathe. And you can't go for a walk barefoot. And you can't go in the water. I came here once attempting a beach experience. I swear I broke a toe on the rocks. However I do like this beach for access to the canal bike path. And for the ability to walk out on the breakwater. This is a fairly long and wide sandy beach with generally calm waters. There is a long shallow expanse of fine sand into the water, (as pictured) pretty good for walking out and not worrying about rocky footing underwater. The scenery here is not the greatest compared to many other beaches along the inland-east side of the bay. A nice place to see the summer end or the autumn begin. Scusset Beach is a campground/beach area right on the eastern end of the Cape Cod Canal. It has about 100 campsites with the usual amenities. It's in a great location for camping because you don't have to actually cross the canal to get to it. If you don't want to camp you can get to the beach and breakwater just by walking or biking the canal path right to the beach. Although the water can get a bit nippy even in the summer, the beach has nice soft sand and is a great place to walk. A nice gentle slope and usually mellow waves make this a good place to bring kids you don't want to get washed away to Europe. A long breakwater offers a great place for fishing. Of course the great Cape Cod Bike Trail is runs right up to the beach so you can bike, swim and go for a walk along the beach all in the same day. Although most people come here in the warm weather Scusset is still a great place in the cooler months. The water doesn't get really cold until Nov and most of the flies and mosquito's are gone by Oct. So you can walk or swim along the beach without being bothered by two or six legged creatures. Beautiful views in all directions. Because of it's eastern location Scusset gets absolutely hammered during storms in the winter month and is a great place to visit in the cold weather to observe the full fury and power of the ocean. read more

We stopped at Scusset after a weeks stay in Plymouth. The kids wanted a sandy beach. This place is great! Nice bathhouses and when it is low tide you can walk forever! There are indoor and outdoor showers and open room changing areas. Food was a bit pricey but hey it's the beach and is expected. Parking was only $14 MA residents and $20 out of state. There is a jetty where people fish and it looked liked kids crabbed. We drove through the camping area. Looks like a nice place all brand new blacktop. All sites have concrete pads and the tent sites are In shade. I would love to camp here in the future. Oh, the best thing is the boardwalk into the beach. Makes it nice and easy to get out to the sand. You won't be disappointed read more

I'm not sure this beach is worth the $9 parking unless you stay all day, but it is pretty nice and there are some fun rock walls to clime along and overlook the ocean. However, the bathroom/indoor shower room was pretty nasty when I went in which drops this this place a star. But you don't go for the bathroom, and while this certainly isn't the best beach on the cape, it's less crowded than most and is kept fairly clean. There are some rocks in parts of the water and there's a awkwardly placed power plant that can obstruct some views on the side. All in all though it's pretty good (maybe more like 3.5 stars). read more

Pretty nice camping here, not fantastic, but OK. The site was small, pretty level and the shower rooms were clean and in decent shape. Most of this campground is really a huge parking lot. The actual park and the beach were great however. The scenery near the canal is a bit rude, with this huge power plant and smokestacks to look at. But we need and want electricity, so I try not to complain much! There is a bike / walking path but some bikers are speeding up and down, so be cautious, especially if you are with kids or a dog. Some old lady biker, thought that she owned the path, and no one else should be allowed on it. The other problem is the ticks in the grass. Josie the beagle had a bunch on her, and I had to check her out constantly. I would probably find a different place near the cape next time, but it was worth seeing it here. The folks in Mass. are generally nice and friendly. read more

My 3 star rating is only because of the lack of social distancing. We went on a Monday in early August at 11am and it was packed. Although I have not been to the campground.... I absolutely love this beach! I spent a day last summer here laying and relaxing on the beach for hours! It is a nice calm, large, and serene place. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here despite the fact that there was a lot of people there...with company, I felt as if we were all alone on the beach. Some cons: the water was pretty cold(maybe it was just the day), the food and beverages were a bit pricey at the concession stand. Pros: very spacious, beautiful jetty where you can walk out on and put yourself in the middle of the ocean, and the beach was very clean. With such a great experience at this beach I am very excited to go back this summer and also stay at the campground. read more

My favorite beach on the South Shore! I was hesitant about paying $14 for parking, but a day at the beach was well worth it. I drove past the main parking lot, just beyond the campground to a gravel parking lot at the start of the Cape Cod Canal trail. There is a slightly longer walk to the beach from this lot, but it takes you to a much more secluded section of the beach with plenty of room to spread out. There are no lifeguards at this end, so if that is important, join the crowds at the main beach. At this entrance, you can also walk along the boulders down the jetty along the edge of the beach for some fabulous views. At low tide, you can walk almost a mile along the beach down to a private beach at the very end. An awesome day on a beautiful, clean and peaceful beach! read more

Electrical update and more I just bought an old truck camper and am new to the camping scene. I tried to find info on Electric and other amenities at this campground but couldn't find much so, I write this post. Looks like Electric has been updated at every site. 50 amp, 30 amp, and 15 amp household current available and close to camper. Every site has its own electric. Water hook ups shared to 3 or 4 sites. Bring hose length of up to 75 feet. Large trash containers located around park. You bring trash to container. Has showers and bathrooms but has hours . 7am to 7 pm usually, they clean them at 7pm and then lock it up until morning. Weird right? Never heard of bathrooms being locked at night. Has a snack bar at beach but no store to buy things. Beach is great . Cape Cod Canal is right there for fishing, bike riding, roller skating, or whatever you're into. Also playground for kids. People camping were very nice, respectful. Wasn't party central at night. No campfires or charcoal fires at RV camps. I' ll Be back again. Hope this post helps a few people. My family have been coming here multiple times annually since I was in elementary school. I live out of state due to the military and when I went back, they charged my vehicle more money because it was from out of state when the parking fee is already a pretty decent chunk of change in my opinion. read more

Scusset Beach. ::sigh:: So quiet, clean, spacious, happy, jolly, rainbows and gum drops ::sigh:: It can get very windy and hard to hold on to your towel or umbrella. But that's not always.. and I blame mother nature for that! I didn't give it 5 stars only because it is kinda deserted and nothing really exciting going on around it. What a great beach! And yes, I am completely biased because I grew up down the street from Scusset, I learned how to drive in the huge parking lot and I reminisce of the wintry, night-time cruises down the empty main stretch to spot deer and raccoons with my mom, dad and sister. But as far as what you're probably interested in, you get the sun and surf of the Cape without the bumper-to-bumper and towel-to-towel afforded by anything further down Route 6. The beach, thanks to a relative lack of foot traffic, is quite clean. I've participated in a clean-up or two, because as residents of this wonderful vacation-mecca known as Cape Cod, we truly care about the preservation of our beaches - and not just for you tourists' sake. There is a boardwalk made of planks that are, for the majority, dedicated to people (my deceased Grandpa has one) or bought by companies for advertising. Another nice feature of the beach - RV camping area for those of you with wheels and - an extreme proximity (as in, right next to) the Cape Cod Canal. This means 6 miles of flat biking/blading/running/walking path along the brisk, refreshing Canal. You don't get the dramatic sand dunes of P-town, but you also don't have to put your towel down next to that old, wrinkly guy in the Speedo because it's the only spot open on the whole beach. Scusset abuts the emptying out of the Canal, which makes for sometimes rough waters but also for frequent boat and cargo ship sightings. The only negative I would spot (and I mean, literally, SPOT because you can't miss it) is the nearness to the Power Plant - quite an eyesore, and who knows, maybe even a possible source of radiation - can you say "bonus!"? All in all, a good beach and well maintained park. I hate having to pay $7 to get in, though. read more

Great little beach! Our Crane beach plans had to change bc of the greenhead flies up there so we scrambled to find something else at the last minute. Scusset beach is a small, clean quiet beach just an hour south of Boston. Small waves good for the kids, and today the water was plenty warm for a swim (I always say it is too cold!) The facilities, bathrooms and showers, were clean, parking was cheap ($7) and though we didn't buy anything there, the food stand had some of the better options I have seen in those beach shacks. It is not as gorgeous as crane or good harbor beaches are, but it was a perfect day for us. We will go back. read more

We stopped here to camp for the night on our way from Pennsylvania to Maine. Cost me 57$ for 2 adults and 2 children. The site we got did not include water which was inconvenient but that's what I get for waiting til the last minute to book a one night site. Wonderful! I am so glad I found this place! After a few bad MA-beach experiences this place was like a breath of fresh air. There aren't really any waves and that is why this place will only get 4 stars. This place costs $7, lots of sand, rocks in the water but thats ok. Lots of space even on weekends. What a beautiful beach! We went here for an afternoon recently and absolutely loved it. It's a nice sandy beach located near the east side of the cape cod canal. It's nearly all sand and very easy on the feet. The views are beautiful as well. They have a snack bar with sandwiches and burgers and bathrooms for changing if needed which are pretty clean although very old. Parking is 7 bucks which is reasonable and there was plenty of space to find a good spot. Definitely my go to beach on the south shore! read more

I think this may now be my family's favorite beach in New England. We came two weekends in a row because we loved it so much. First day, it was BLAZING out so going into the water was a refreshing experience. We came earlier in the morning and left by 3pm. The differentiator here was how clear the water was and although cold, if you waited long enough the water was comfortable for swimming. There is plenty of parking available, and the location easily accessible right off route 3. We also enjoyed some chicken fingers and snacks available for sale at a kitchen on site. The beach was kept pretty clean and life guards on site. Everyone there seemed to be there to enjoy the ocean so everyone was pretty chill and kept to themselves (no obnoxious beach goers here). My mom insists on returning a few more times before it gets cold so that's a god indicator of how much she loves it. Tip, bring a little beach cart with your beach accessories so you don't crazy carrying a bunch of chairs, towels, etc. read more

This beach is great. Here's answers to all your questions! BEACH - The beach here is amazing, a beautiful boardwalk leads down to the beach and there is also a blue mat placed on the sand for about ten feet that helps to maneuver wheelchairs and beach supplies. The beach is slightly rocky, but not the worst that I have seen, once you get into the water there is barely any rocks. The staff on this beach tend to be pretty idiotic, so just follow the signs as they say when entering and exiting the beach area. There are life guards on duty until the beach closes! The cost to get in is $14 which is an excellent price to pay for everything you get out of this beach! There is a slight opening near where you pay, you can go there and park and fish and watch the boats pass by through the canal. There is also a getty on the far right side of the beach. It is beautiful for fishing, watching the boats or talking a stroll down. Beach itself is cleanly, very large, spacious, and a good place to spend a beach day at!! PARKING - Parking is $14 per day, the parking lot is huge with lots of spaces and not a very long walk from the beach at all! CAMPING - The campgrounds are beautiful and absolutely worth staying at, and for a very reasonable price! The price for camping for MA residents is $22 and for non MA residents it's $35. To have water is an extra $4, electricity is $6. You CANNOT bring your own firewood, it must be purchased at this beach. Check in is usually 1 pm to 9 pm and check out is by 11 am. There are some quiet hours, which are 10 pm to 7 am, in which you cannot operate the generator. Beach is open access from open to close for campers, which is why it is totally worth it! Everybody has the pet question and the answer is yes, you may bring your pets, but there is a limit of four pets to a campsite. There is also a community fire pit which hosts large fires, fishing, a dumping station for your trash, a picnic area, and most importantly, SHOWERS! FOOD - Food is permitted on this beach, as long as the trash is thrown away. There is a snack shack that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner for both beach goers and campers! Prices are very reasonable. There are several trash cans to dispose of your left over belongings as well! SHOWERS AND BATHROOMS - CLEANEST I HAVE EVER SEEN! These bathrooms and showers are shockingly super nice, clean and they all work! I shower every time I go to this beach, there are shower curtains and both cold and hot water. The ladies and men's rooms hold about 5 showers each and each have changing stalls and bathroom stalls as well. Super impressive for a beach! NEARBY - Up the street there is a McDonald's, a Chinese food restaurant and a pizza place! There is also a British Beer Company up the road along with a breakfast and lunch place called The Blueberry Muffin. Super delicious. There is a Shaw's and a CVS nearby as well. Great location! Being a huge New England beach snob I can happily say that this beach receives my full five star rating. Easy, affordable parking, great bathroom facilities, and a snack bar are only the beginning elements to this beach's greatness. I don't think that I've every seen a New England beach with water as clear as Scusset Beach and can only assume that the city slickers like myself say "Cape or Bust" when skipping this beach. I will say that the water was MUCH colder at this beach than it was at Craigville the next day, but the clarity of the water and ease of entering (never mind paying expensive $20 beach fees at Craigville) made this beach a huge winner. read more

Why are they charging $9.00 admission when no services are available in June!!?? My friend and I came here on June 17th, well after Memorial Day weekend-"the season" and there were no lifeguards and the snack bar was not operating. So what exaclty are we paying for? The only human interaction we had was with the admission attendant. I think that's pretty shady. I remember going here as a kid, and decided to take my kids here for a beach day. Parking is $14. Figured we would be staying here all day, so not a problem. Walked to the beach and there were more rocks than sand. It was high tide, maybe the sand gets better when the tide goes out? Didn't stay long enough to find out. Found a spot to set up. People around were extremely rude and snotty. Kids shoveling sand onto our stuff. Decided to leave my mom at the beach to get her sun tanning in and I left with my boys to drive around and get ice cream, since it was too windy to put up an umbrella and with having fair skin, I didn't want them to burn. Drove back an hour later to find the parking lot road was blocked off. I told the men at the gate that I was there to pick up my mother, and they said the lot was closed and I would have to wait until 2:30 for it to open back up. Um...what? Myself, and a few other cars had to line up on the road and wait for them to open up the road again. Pro's: No waves (if you have little kids) Con's: Rude people Random shutting down of parking lot - once you're in, don't dare leave or you will be at the mercy of the gate guards Rough beach/lots of rocks Lots of seaweed with jellyfish hiding in it I will be finding another beach for my next outing. read more

This is a great beach for kids. Someone already mentioned the gentle drop off and lack of waves, but I'd like to add there are lots of opportunites to see sea life. Because of the calm waters it''s easy to find hermit crabs, clams, sand dollars and small fish. There is also a long rock wall that has tons of star fish and rock crabs. We were there last week and saw two seals. My kids love this beach. read more

Went here earlier this weeks in hopes of avoiding crowds further down the cape. This place definitely allowed that - more than plenty of room, and did not feel that crowded. The beach and water are very rocky, and there were practically no waves, even though this beach is considered to be "surf." Parking was only $7, a steal compared to other beaches.
