Ok, I live here in Onset so a review of the beach area is essential. The sand is remarkable, soft and quite clean. During the busy season the vast beach is quite clean and is checked off weekly. Water too is superb, no question about that and it matters little what part of the summer you arrive.

Point Independence Beach.Beach cleaning has been next to nothing all summer 2019. Time to fix the problem Wareham Town Officials!

Crowded, bathrooms on the pier dirty, too close to boats for my liking. Ice cream nearby, parking is VERY LIMITED and expensive.

The app prompts you not to pay until you get there as you may not have a spot even if you already pre-paid. Pros: bathroom facilities and outdoor showers Snack bar if needed Parking cheaper compared to other beaches on the Cape For us this beach was much closer to where we were staying. Cons: Water was freezing(mid 60s). This may be also viewed as a pro as it felt really cooling after being in it but does take time to get used to. The kids in the group had a hard time venturing any further than knee height. Walk to and from parking lot/ bathroom was a little long. The sand can be a little pebbly.

The beach itself was nice enough: decent sand, not rocky, not an over abundance of seaweed. That's where the enjoyment ended. That beach had a constant barrage of biting flies that annoy the crap out of you. They are small, relentless, painfully bite, and leave itchy marks where they bite. We stayed for 3 hours to try to get our $14 (parking fee) worth but after that, we left. I'll never go back since I now know those biting flies are an issue there and have been for years. Two thumbs down and I cannot recommend Scusset Beach to any beach goer who wishes to have a lovely day at the beach. Side note : the water was so cold also, with zero waves and contained floating seaweed. Terrible.

Public beaches at Electric Ave in Bourne (resident permit required) and at Lyman Reserve in Bourne. No public beaches on Wareham side. Pretty muddy at low tide so plan swimming accordingly. My favorite place to swim is the channel between Buttermilk and Little Buttermilk (Gibbs Narrows). Crystal clear and the current will give you a Nantucket sleigh ride when tide is changing.

Came out from Cambridge today looking to get some nature and perhaps see some wildlife. Took the shore path toward the bay and upon turning the corner towards the bay there was a women spread eagle while her male companion head was blissfully between her legs.
