Falmouth Heights Beach is lovely with soft golden sand. Many families enjoy fun moment on the waters off Falmouth Sound. We love walking on the beach, watching the joggers, the swimmers, boaters, sailors...It is also a dog friendly beach which we Love. Get out if you can and enjoy. Life is good! Life is a beach.

The unfortunate part about parking is that you need a resident sticker or you will get a ticket. The fortunate part is that it is not a far walk from the hustle and bustle of Main St. Sometimes there is a stinky low tide smell here, but not that often. We didn't even have our swimsuits on at first, just wanted to get out of the car and dip our toes for a minute. The directions on your gps are a bit confusing, but if you find yourself going down an extremely bumpy dirt road for about a mile or so, then yep, you are more than likely heading in the right direction. Parking is minimal and you just kinda squeeze your car wherever you can off the main path. The sandy part of the beach itself is very minimal, our 3 year old enjoyed swimming as there were no waves splashing in her face. The water was murkier than other locations, which I'm not a fan of (I prefer to see what I'm about to step on... ). This was fine for what it was if you want a free beach!

The current was extremely strong and quickly pulled the kids far out, leaving three adults desperately swimming to get them back safely. Very dangerous and terrifying experience. This is the main beach in old Falmouth. We have used it for decades, even when here in winter, just…read moreto walk on a beach. It has ample parking and if you live here you can buy a season pass. If you are just visiting, you will pay $20 for the day to park but you can go in and out several times. Just have the attendant of the day sign the ticket as you go out and show it again when you return. In the winter when it's too cold to swim, there is no lifeguard or attendant and you can go in and out at will. There is a building with showers on the outside to get the sand off before getting in your car. There is no refreshment stand. You can also walk in from the beach homes nearby. We did a summer rental a few years ago and it was only 4 blocks to the beach and no fee to enter. There is no shade at all. People bring umbrellas and even camping tents, especially if they also bring a small child who may need a nap and shade. It was a hot day mid-summer when we were there this year and it was too hot for me, so we did not stay long. It's always nice, though, to sit and watch the boats go by, even if not up to a swim. We and our kids always collected shells here long ago when they were small. My husband still collects shells, though he looks for the more unusual ones still in the water. This year when we were there, it was very busy with families and kids running in and out of the water and having great fun, like our kids had done, decades ago. Whenever we go to Falmouth, no matter the season, we always visit this beach.

Surf Drive Beach is the site of the Old Stone Dock, attacked during the War of 1812. It was once where "packets" (mail ships) set sail. While part of New England maritime history, it is now more subdued. There's decent parking, it's clean, safe, with excellent views of Vineyard Sound. It reflects the seasons. One can watch osprey, gulls, and cormorants. It's more for relaxation than swimming. Beautiful eastern views.

But if you are living or visiting nearby and can walk over to a tiny but great space for families to play on a beach with an old fashion Cape Cod feel, do it. Especially if you are part of the scientist community, whether world renowned or just a student. You might even run into people you know from the labs. Little kids love it and can build sand piles forever. I can't even begin to count how many times I have been here over a time span of 37 years. There's a lifeguard in summer season and a porta-potty. That's it, though I think an ice cream truck sometimes visits on great beach days.
