We travelled from far west USA to Cape Cod watch great baseball and watch up and coming (by…read moreinvitation only) baseball players for 5 days. The games are in the evenings as the players train or are in/conduct clinics during the day. This is baseball at its finest--games played nightly at 4-5 locations locally (longest was about 40 minutes away) at well-maintained high school fields. Donations are encouraged, otherwise games and parking are free. We were there during the draft, and as they introduced players (who came from all over the USA) they reported what major league team had drafted the player. Very fun, up close and relaxing. There are the usual hot dogs and snacks, it is extremely casual; most sites have bleachers but bring you own chair is just fine. Very family oriented, lots of happy kids. There is a surprising number of things to do during the day, including a white sand beach, water park, pirate museum, mini golf, and day trips to Plymouth or Hyannis, some very nice local restaurants (mostly casual dining) and plenty of seafood. This is a casual adventure, no stuffy restaurants or locales. Lots of local resorts, but choose carefully. If you don't have kids, most hotels are oriented to kids and kid activities and feel a bit like east coast summer camps. There are a couple chains, like the Hampton Inn and Suites in Yarmouth that provide an option.

Get here at least 30 minutes early to score a great seat behind home plate and settle in for one of the best free activities you're likely to have during your summer vacation. Made up of college ballplayers honing their game during the summer months, the Anglers have called Veterans Field their home since 1927, and the ballpark is still one of the best places in America to soak in the nostalgia of our nation's favorite pastime. Baseball fans will appreciate the history and the character of this simple but glorious diamond, where legends like Thurman Munson, Jeff Bagwell and, yes -- Aaron Judge, once ran the bases when they played in the Cape Cod League. The games are free, but donations are accepted for the programs and it's hard to pass up the cool merchandise on sale behind the broadcasters' booth. Hot dogs, burgers, snacks and cold (non-alcoholic) drinks are also available for purchase. A walking path, picnic area, basketball, racquetball, and a playground. The playground is large and has options for smaller kids and bigger kids. The best part is, it is in the shade! It can be so hot on those summer days, but the shade is everything. Also has a bathroom nearby. Definitely recommend.

The grass is real and the bats are wood. The players are incredibly talented and driven as this is one place where MLB scouts swarm to find talent. This is legit, high quality baseball in an incredibly inviting and casual setting. Former players I've seen include Nomar Garciaparra, Marcus Stroman, Kolten Wong, and many others who have come through Orleans. Other former Cape Leaguers are Jason Varitek, Aaron Bleepin' Boone (Orleans), Frank Thomas (Orleans), Jonathan Papelbon, Chase Utley, Jackie Bradley, Jr., Andrew Benintendi, Mark Bellhorn, Bill Mueller, Kevin Millar, and a bunch of other dudes you would know. The players live with host families, and many work summer jobs in addition to playing ball. The team hosts youth baseball camps in the mornings, with the players and coaches instructing. Some players are available to private lessons (these are incredible). The home field is Eldredge Park on the middle school grounds at the corner of Rt. 28 and Eldredge Parkway. Home games are played in the evenings, with first pitch at 7 pm. Bring your own chairs or blankets, and set up in any open space. Get a free roster with up-to-date stats, and grab a team program that your kids can get autographed after the game. The kids can also run the bases, sing Take Me Out to the Ballgame, play on the playground beyond the left field fence, track down some foul balls, and otherwise have good, clean fun. It's free, but take the opportunity to play the 50/50 raffle or donate when the hat is passed around. Say hi to George the Firebird when you see him. He'll be wearing a red bird costume and is really loud.

I lost my dad 7 years ago but as I was standing on the pier I could hear him yelling at me as if I were purposely catching puffer fish that he had to fight off the hook. Yes, I admit to getting teary eyed with nostalgia. It is a really cute beach with a nice jetty. The pier is great for high tide fishing and low tide viewing. The water is super clear with no snags or rocks to catch your line.

If I am to rate this beach it's simple, out of all the open ocean facing South Yarmouth beaches…read morethis is the one as a child I called the new beach because it was created last on this strip of beaches roughly a mile or so long. It sits at the opposite end from the free "first" beach and in between is what we always called the "swing" beach for obvious reason. This beach sits next to the Smugglers Beach motel which I think was changed to condos many years ago. The beach has a large boat ramp for launching boats and the ramp used to be free but now the town charges to launch. The beach itself also charges to park. Overall the largest beach and it sits at the mouth of Bass River and has a pier to fish from.

There are bleachers, however they tend to fill up quickly so I suggest bringing a lawn chair. There's also a concession stand and they sell all sorts of merch during the game. There are also restrooms on site. We got there kinda late but were able to find seats in the bleachers. I suggest going early as games tend to get packed.

I took my son to his first baseball game the other night at DY Highschool and it was fantastic…read more Free to get in. So much excitement and fun. He got a baseball which was so exciting for him. The interns who run it are all college students from around the country and they do a hell of a job. They are all so nice. I even met someone who goes to University of Miami where I went, awesome. They have ballpark food like hotdogs, hamburgers, peanuts, pretzels, etc. all reasonable priced. Kids are everywhere running around, great family time. Bring your chair or sit in bleechers. There are about 10 teams all over the Cape. The redsox are the closest team to me, so I went to the Yarmouth highschool and they played Wareham. Great fun.
