Would get here early, lot tends to fill up fast. It feels a little crowded once it fills up. Pros: Bathroom/outdoor shower facilities. Bathroom was average beach bathroom cleanliness(i.e. could be better but could be worse). Has snack bar if needed Parking lot close to shore Warm water(i believe around 72-73 when we went) Sand was white and soft. We got here around low tide where it was a little too calm for the kiddos in our group who wanted to boogie board. Luckily as the day progressed more waves came to play around in. Charming place. Who ever decorated has great taste Cod Cod charm. The resort is right on the water with a private beach. There are all kinds of rooms some with fireplaces aome with ocean views. Soft white sand that doesn't get too hot regardless how hard the sun is beating down, cabana boys/girls, drinks in hand, clear, clean water....can't get much better than this! Old Silver Beach has been my favorite beach to come to in the continental U.S. (just shy of first place, which is a beach in Puerto Rico)! OSB is clean and well kept. When you step foot onto the beach, you're greeted by a cabana boy/girl who grabs you as many lounge chairs as needed and umbrellas to stick in the sand if wanted. The beach fills up pretty fast so if you're looking for a front row seat right next to the water, you're likely best to get one if you arrive early. The ONLY thing about the beach that some may not like are the minnows. In the shallow current near the sandy beach, are millions of minnows, swimming in schools. They're everywhere. But--they're also harmless! So no need to be afraid. read more

This is my favorite beach. No frills, nothing fancy - just the sand and the water. This is a great beach to bring kids because there is basically no waves. They have bathrooms and showers and two small food cafes. It is $20 to park and the lots fill up quick so get here early! The water seems to always be fairly warm here... like the kind you can walk right in without being shocked. Also, the water stays shallow for pretty far out so there is more water area to enjoy with your family without being too crowded. read more

Old Silver Brach is a nice small beach in a cove with white sand and rock "jetties." There is a lighthouse that lies in the center of the cove. A marsh feeds into the beach from the other side of the road, and a hotel resort is on the West side. This site has been a beach destination for generations in my wife's family. There are public and non-resident beaches. Each has a small parking lot with handicapped parking spaces. There is a lifeguard tower and changing building on the public beach. The resident beach has a small snack shack. In the off season, many fish from the shore on these beaches and use them for walks. Old Silver beach is a nice small beach off the highly trafficked tourist routes and is worth a visit. read more

OSB was very crowded on Labor Day ~ despite the $20 parking fee & limited parking. The glistening water was beautiful & watching the sailboats was fun. Water was warm & sand was soft, but there are sharp oyster shells. Wear water shoes to protect your feet. Take chairs & umbrellas. read more

In my opinion this one of the best beaches in all of New England for the following reasons: proximity, warm water, and not too many rocks. What's great about this beach is it's on the beginning base of Cape Cod so traffic shouldn't be as much an issue as traveling to other parts of the Cape. The water is the warmest I've ever experienced in all of New England. Also, there's not an overkill of rocks so you can easily walk around without watching your every step. It's also ideal if you have small children because the parking lot is right next to beach and so are the bathrooms and the food stand. It's not the biggest beach, but I like that because it's more intimate. It can get crowded depending on what time you get there. Some people may say "it's not the Caribbean"....but you know what? It wasn't too far off on the day I went. The water isn't Turquoise like the Carribean but it's definitely clean and clear enough where you can see through from waist or shoulders down. I'm not saying it's better than the Carribean but the waves were certainly no where near as rough (aka Cancun, Bermuda) and made it ideal for a simple dip in the water or playing with kids. read more

In my humble opinion as a Cape Codder for 11 years, this is one of the best beaches in Falmouth. The sand is clean and soft, there are few rocks, the ocean is free of seaweed and it's often very shallow with lots of sand bars, making it quite good for children. It's one of the best and EVERYONE knows it. This means, of course, that what little parking there is, is filled up very very quickly. The lot opens at 9am and there is usually already a line. Not a resident? Then it'll cost you $20, each time you go...ouch. The best way to get here is to have someone drop you off, or better yet, get on a bike, you can "park" that free of charge. The only really negative side is that it's really crowded on nice days. You are pretty much guaranteed to be on top of other people and will most likely have to listen to screaming kids, 96.3 The Rose blaring from a radio, and deal with 15 year olds who have smuggled in beer. I think it's worth it however. Best sand out of any of them! read more

There was also not many people due to limited parking so I suggest getting there before 11am on a weekday, which is when I went. They also have a small snack bar in the parking lot. When assessing all the beaches in the Falmouth area, Old Silver has to be the best! This beach has the best sand, the best food stands, and the staff here has to be the most polite. The other amazing things about this beach are that the water is warm in comparison to other Cape beaches and the shoreline isn't as rocky as other beaches. The only downside to this beach is that parking here after 10am is a nightmare. The lines are long but they can usually get people in and out fairly quickly. The last time we came we had to sit in the waiting line for about 35 minutes before we got a spot. Moral of the story, obviously this is a great beach, so show up early. If you can follow that simple advice then you will not be dissapointed with your beach experience. read more

I've been to Old Silver dozens of times over the years and I can say with confidence that it's one of the best beaches to go to on the Cape. The water here is so clear (you can literally see through it all the way to the bottom) and clean which makes it perfect for swimming and leaves you feeling so refreshed. I especially love the sand here; it is some of the softest sand I've ever felt and makes walks on the beach so much more relaxing. There are also lifeguards, decent bathrooms, rinsing stations, and concession stands. The only downside to this beach is the crowdedness and parking fees. This beach gets extremely crowded during the tourist season, so expect to be really close to the people around you. This also makes it difficult to get a parking spot, so get here early! Regarding parking, there is a $20 fee, which is a bit overpriced in my opinion. If this beach wasn't so amazing, I'd call it ridiculous. read more

Crowded but pretty beach with facilities! Old Silver Beach has a decent size parking lot with cash pay for $20. It also features bathrooms, showers, and a burger stand for quick eats. I'm assuming you should get here pretty early in the summer to get a good parking spot. The sand is soft and white and the beach has a few small jetties. While we were there, we noticed the life guards having to constantly whistle at adults climbing the rocks, although there are signs everywhere that say not to. Get off the rocks, people! The beach was fairly crowded when we went on a Sunday but still enough space for us to spread out our things and enjoy a sunny day. The waves at the time were not very strong so plenty of kids could play by the water. There was also not a ton of seaweed coming in with the tide, which is a plus! read more

The ocean view here was bea! There were these spots in the ocean where you would be knee deep than you walk a little further and it slowly went back down to ankle deep. And I was going deeper into the ocean. This is a great place for parents with littles. I had a great time. read more

Reasons I like it: - warm water - lots of nice sand, and water isn't too deep - clean water - small beach with easy access to nice bathrooms & a food stall - the really cool marsh you can walk into, so different and fun ! Yes it gets busy and fills up early, but what beach doesn't? We went there on a Monday in August at 11am and still had to wait to get in for about 15 minutes but we didn't mind. read more

My family & friends used to go to this beach regularly for day trips. Although, this beach is on the small side. It's convenient because it's right over the bridge. I like that it's clean, there are lifeguards & offers bathrooms, food & outside showers. I was sad to see that Old Silver stopped providing free parking to active military families. It would be one thing to never have offered it. Another downside is that the beach doesn't open until 9:00 AM. You still need to go early if you want to get in, as a very long line forms about an hour to an hour & a half prior to it opening. read more

Old Silver Beach is a treasure of Falmouth and of Cape Cod! Soft Sand and if you've ever stayed for a sunset, you'd know exactly what I mean. Parking is tough especially between Memorial Day age Labor Day, which is typical for many Cape beaches, but it's worth it. read more

I had researched this beach online and took a chance based on the feedback of reviews online, and I have to say that it is the BEST beach that I've been to in New England in years! The water was beautiful! I could see clearly to the bottom white sand. I didn't have to fight with seaweed and although the water was freezing cold when you first get in, there were pockets of warmth and as you kept moving it wasn't cold anymore. I love to swim and I spent most of my time in the water. I met an older gentleman in the water who was about the age of my father and he asked me why I as a women, I had cut all my hair off. The elderly say the darn-nest things. I just simply explained in so many words; I'm only trying to please me. It turned out we had much in common. We both had graduated from the same high school, grew up in the same neighborhood, and were both ex-military. There was plenty of room for everyone. I brought along my fiance', her sister and husband, my best friend, and our children-2 teens and 2 youths. We arrived early and had plenty of space to set up our circle like I observed other large groups doing to claim their personal space:) The only reason I didn't give this spot a 5 was due to a beach fans comment about our group. Believe it or not, a caucasian middle aged women approached us and asked who was in charge of our group then stated that we were doing a good job with such a large group because everyone was well behaved. SLAP! No she didn't insult us. Now I saw plenty of large caucasian groups, some loud some not; so why wasn't she talking to them? Obviously, she wasn't trying to insult us, but honestly what did she think we were supposed to act like? So, there you have it Old Silver Beach is definitely in need of diversification. As a college instructor, I was tired of teachable moments as I do that all day with my students, therefore, I just acknowledged her comment and she went on her way; probably feeling that she had done something nice for those black folks and feeling quite liberal:) read more

This place was amazing. After a visit to Revere Beach (gross) and Crane beach (brrrr, despite all it's other pleasantries)...a visit to Old Silver was a welcome escape. I found a list of "best" beaches in and around Boston, rated best for different things (http://www.theinsider.com/Boston/Fun/bestbeach.htm) and man it didn't disappoint. The parking lot was a little crowded. The drive was a little miserable (I'm sure we weren't smart enough to wait until after commuter traffic had cleared though). But the beach was well worth it. The water was the warmest I've felt on this coast. The sandbars stretched out so far that I got tired of walking in the water before it ever reached around my waist. The sand was so nice and soft. It was a little packed, so I can see where a little frustration might be found. But seriously, if you want to swim, make a day trip out to Old Silver, just start early and get a good spot. read more

We either get there early in the morning In order to get a spot or we go after 3-4 because parking is free and most people have left by then! The beach is a light color and perfect! The water can be a little choppy, but typically fairly calm. There is a little food stand, which sells the typical (hot dogs and such). an ice cream truck that often stops by. read more

This was my first time at this beach and it was super crowded from the second I got onto it. I was expecting it to be at least a little bigger but I was wrong. The sand was super soft but there was a lot of garbage and wrappers in it which was disappointing. On the contrary, the water was super clear and very clean but only went to about 3 1/2 feet. For the price to park and limited space I don't really think it's worth it but maybe so if you have children or just want to sit and people watch. read more

More on the disappointed side regarding this beach... too small, too crowded, no waves and not as clean as we expected. Thinking this beach is better for parents with young children/toddlers. Arrived Friday at 9 am and got into the lot, paid $20... lot filled by 10:30. Also, by 10:30 there was no room on the beach and had to walk through people's set ups to get to water. Wife ordered one chicken wrap at snack bar which cost about $12... yikes! You can walk out a ways, sand bar, soft sand on beach and some rocky areas when entering water. Good waves. Big enough to be enjoyable but not quite large enough to ride. Bring water shoes as it's pretty rocky until you wade out a bit, but minimal seaweed adds to its charm. Very attentive lifeguards and nice facilities. It's not a huge beach and gets packed, but it seems to be one of the only fully public beaches around. read more

Cute beach, nice and clean. Met some nice people while we were there and had a couple beers w them. I'm not from the area and it gave the first impression that it was a patrolled uptight area but when we were there it was super laid back which is a plus. We were there in ealy June so not summer yet. I don't know what it's like during the summer. read more
