All proceeds for sailing go to maintaining the tall ship and staffing. I loved it. The crew made it fun they were nice and down to earth. Plus the group was small so it offered a level of intimacy that if fully sold out we wouldn't have experienced. We brought our dinner and drinks, enjoyed to views and sailed on a beautiful tall ship. It was the perfect ending to our Vineyard weekend.

Our guides were happy to chat when we wanted to, and just as willing to let us be a little separate from the group when that's what we wanted. But they always kept an eye on everyone. I find that wildly invasive especially since I'm happy to pay any money I owe as long as I'm told I owe it! Too bad because the tour was great. I'd be cautious using this company-if you do, don't supply them with your credit card information because they mismanaged that information. The BYO private tour took us to their oyster farms and taught us about sustainable oyster farming. Captain Fred was so much fun (kind of a character himself!) and he's really knowledgable and indulged all my questions, telling me about how the boat works and teaching us a lot. We sailed from Vineyard Haven around Oak Bluffs and then moored near State Beach so we could all jump off the boat and go swimming. We had lunch on the boat and then sailed back. I highly recommend Ishmael for anyone who wants a unique, and genuine experience. Since the boat is privately owned, there is nothing commercial about it and you get a real sense of sailing the way the locals do it. And if there's good wind, there is nothing like skimming through the waves, feeling the spray of the ocean, as you take in the beautiful view.
