JUDY WAS THE BEST!! We didn't make a reservation or anything, just showed up 15 minutes before departure. We left to grab some drinks, and when we came back to board, they had already left (not their fault, we hadn't even bought tickets yet). It was very spur of the moment but Judy called the launch to have us BROUGHT to the main boat. They jumped through hoops for us and were SO accommodating. Can't thank Judy and Capt Bob enough. Great workers and an even nicer experience on the boat!! Amber was very kind and helpful as well:) read more

I never leave Yelp reviews but felt I needed to clear the air here! All the reviews below are ridiculous and obviously posted by people who don't appreciate a good sail. This adventure was clearly (as advertised online and explained via telephone by Stacey when booking) as a 2 hour sail. No where did it say it was a booze cruise with drinks, snacks and music or a historical sight seeing tour with detailed narration. The people below clearly don't understand how to do research (which took me less than 5 mins)!!! It was a lovely sail on a beautiful catamaran! The captain and first mate were fun, informative and clearly very passionate about sailing! We sat on the very front to the side of the catamaran and got SOAKED which was so fun! If you like adventure and some nice salt water, sit here and bring a change of clothes to leave on the lower deck. There are plenty of lovely seat where you will not get wet, just ask the captain and first mate where to sit if you're not sure! All in, we were very pleased with our sail and would (and will) 100% use Mad Max adventures again! Thank you!!!! read more

We booked the sunset cruise on this boat and had a really lonely time. However, be aware that there is not a lot of comfy seating that isn't inside so get there early to nab the seats toward the back of the boat. If you seat in the front you will be sitting on a net or on the "ground" which can get uncomfortable for 2 hours. The real seats have tables for your carry on picnic and libations. The boat was not overly crowded and the 2 person crew were very nice. There is no "narration" of what you're seeing but we actually liked that and the crew is happy to answer questions. We saw a beautiful sunset and had a great time. Also, the dock is pretty accessible for people who use walkers and wheelchairs. read more

Just finished a two-hour cruise on Max Max, their catamaran. The boat looks great, and I loved the main sail with an image of a pirate on it. I also liked their BYOB policy. it would have been a great trip, well worth the $75 per person fee if it had not been for one little problem: a horde of young, screaming/jumping girls from a Brownies troop. I feel like I just escaped from an insane asylum.... I know that it was not completely their fault; in fact, the real blame lies with the leaders/chaperones who totally neglected their obligation to properly to supervise them. THEY managed the ruin the trip for the rest of the passengers. HOWEVER, I feel like they should have taken more control of the situation and insist that the unruly mob of girls behave and be more considerate of others. In the end, the old adage "caveat emptor" applies here. Ask in advance who your co-passengers are going to be before booking your trip. (I'm having a stiff shot of Abelour 16 to calm my nerves and ear drums as I write my tale of harrowing adventure.) read more

Mad Max Sailing Adventures - Boating Near Me - Edgartown, Massachusetts

We did a sailing tour yesterday out of Edgartown with mad Max. I would not endorse this is a trip worth your money. Terrible customer service. The captain and crew did not interact at all. And we simply tacked back-and-forth in the same area for the entire two hour trip. Save your money. read more

The people that left reviews complaining about this cruise are rubes. This is a gorgeous catamaran. It takes you out for a sail in a beautiful area. The people that wrote negative reviews want the captain and crew to be yelling into a loudspeaker, and entertaining them. It's a nice sail. Check it out. read more

Went this past August with my family. We all joked that they should rename this cruise "sad max". Even with alcohol....it was very boring. We didn't sail very far from Edgartown Harbor, then kind of zig zagged back painfully slow. This is a tourist trap! Maybe we hyped it up in our minds beforehand to much......who knows.... read more

Perfect afternoon on this beautiful catamaran! Brought wine and snacks and soaked up the beauty of the island. I highly recommend this trip. read more

I iive on the Vineyard but have never been on a boat other than the ferry. I had company here for the week and wanted to show them something special. A friend recommended that we go out on a catamaran, specifically the Mad Max. Tickets are 60.00 cash (65.00 credit) per adult. You may bring food and drink on the boat for a ride around the Edgartown Harbor and Chappaquidick which lasts about 2 hours. We chose to go on the "Sunset Cruise." Unfortunately for us, the weather did not cooperate and it was very hazy and humid during our ride... we didn't get to really see much. It was a nice trip overall, but we had just as nice a sail riding the freight ferry (which was nearly a completely open deck) from Woods Hole the next day. The crew of 2 were very accommodating to the many children on the boat and would let them pretend to steer and take pictures of them with their iphones. We were encouraged to ask questions... but I would have like to have been given a little "tour" so I could know where we were at any given time. Had the weather been nicer (which I realize is beyond anyone's control), I think it would have been a very lovely time! However, for the price... I would have thought there may have been more substance to the cruise rather than just being on a boat with 45 people bouncing around the water. As I said, I can do that on the ferry. read more

Beautiful relaxing sail! Nice sunset view! Byob allowed both for food and alcohol. Bathroom aboard which helps! $65 per person for 2 hour sail. Note this is not a guided tour but just a nice quiet ride and view from the water! read more

Simple trip with simple directions. We came well prepared with our food, beverages and appropriate clothing to spend a couple of peaceful hours out on the water. Sure, you aren't alone but everyone is out there for the same thing. Pick a seat and relax. No tour or history lesson but the crew are happy to answer any questions you may have. Perfect night for our family of four. read more

My husband and I brought our three kids for a week long vacation in Oak Bluffs this past week. When we took a day trip to Edgartown for lunch, we stumbled upon Mad Max Sailing Adventures and made a spur of the moment decision to take part in the sunset cruise. Initially, I was nervous my youngest would have some trouble (i.e. sea sickness, cold) but Captain Bob made the sail s smooth as possible and also recommended we bring layers when we originally bought our tickets. They even let my daughter pretend to drive which she couldn't stop talking about at dinner! I did think the pricing was a little on the expensive side, but both of the crew members and the Captain made the experience worth it. I definitely recommend Mad Max if you want to see the island from a different perspective. read more

Nice boat but definitely not worth the cost. This is not guided so no explanation of what you are seeing - which is nothing!! The boat literally went out 1 mile and just sat there for two hours and came back. You couldn't even see the sunset over the ocean because the island was blocking it. Huge disappointment. read more

Went on the Mad Max sail this afternoon and thought the ocean was beautiful and we had a relaxing time with my family..Although we were a bit disappointed with the lack of music, drinks and no insights about Martha's vineyard per se, the excursion ended on a bad note when we were called in after the trip to pay an additional $60 because we used our credit card instead of cash as they inadvertently charged us the cash price. When I inquired that I would prefer to pay cash to save the 14% premium and asked to cancel the credit card charge, the women said no as she was closing the books for the day..I expressed my dismay and she still would not oblige me..I chose not to push it even though I could have forced the issue to pay cash as an ATM machine was just outside the office..not good! I hope this post is used by Mad Max as a lessen learned for future customers..BTW credit card companies don't normally charge a 14 % premium for using their card so it just felt like gouging for the credit card premium.. read more

The crew was friendly but didn't offer any information other than when asked. For the price, similarly expensive locations to MV offered snacks and some rum punch and beers (Kauai, Costa Rica and St Marten). All we did was go to Cape Pogue and tack around the Edgartown harbor. We were hoping to see more of the island that we hadn't seen and that just wasn't the case. read more

Maybe since it is no longer peak season on the Vineyard, the Mad Max crew doesn't feel as though it needs to be polite or work that hard? We were not impressed with a Saturday evening sail with Captain Robert this past weekend. Our group made a reservation for eight, but one person had food poisoning and was unable to join us. When we paid for our tickets prior to boarding the boat, Robert insisted that we pay for eight tickets as per our original reservation and the Mad Max reservation policy, but only issued us seven tickets. He rudely refused to provide our group with the eighth ticket, even though we paid for it. Thus, we paid for a ticket that was not delivered to us, that we should have been able to use for that sail at our discretion. (At this point we wanted to cancel the sail, but Robert would have charged the credit card used to hold the reservation) The cruise itself was underwhelming with very little information on where we were/what we were seeing described by the crew. Furthermore, the cabin had metal poles, used for setting up tables, that were about a foot high, in areas where passengers were walking and not cordoned off or labeled in any way. One of our group members ran right into one of these poles and sustained injuries to her knee. Overall, I don't recommend Mad Max for Vineyard sailing and think their business practices are questionable. read more
