    Chapin Beach

We could not get into Mayflower (again). Seems the Mayflower lot is full before 9am. We got into Chapin at 10am but it filled up right behind us. The downsides of Chapin is there is no snack bar, showers or bathrooms (unless, you are cool with port-o potties...I'm not). The upsides of Chapin is the beach is beautiful and it is not crowded. This beach is perfect for families with little kids. The tiny pools of water at low tide are full of tiny fish, hermit crabs and shells/colorful rocks. The water is also pretty warm. The walk to the water at low tide is mostly flat and about a half mile out so if you are with someone disabled, reconsider coming here. The water is clear and clean and perfect for swimming...but keep an eye out for sharks!

My dad and I came here during low tide and off season. It was still gorgeous, just a different kind of gorgeous. The sand drifts along the homes driving up to the beach, look like snow drifts. The steps are all sand covered as swept. At the beach itself, it was just a windsurfing couple and dad and I. The tide was out. Sooooo far out. You could walk several hundred yards. Picturesque and highly recommend, in season or off season.

We came here to walk the beach in January. So quiet and peaceful. At low tide it looks really vast. There were only a few other people here walking dogs or strolling the beach. There is a small parking lot right near the beach. I can imagine In the summer this place is popping but in January it was a nice, peaceful walk. See photos. Generally clean but we did find a number of random metal rails / stakes jutting out of the sand. Watch where you're walking.

I don't get over to this side of the Cape all that much, but I visited nearby Scargo Tower and decided to stop here. I came in the middle of June when it was still free to park. The parking fees in season are quite steep. It's $25 a day and $30 on weekends, yikes. The beach looks a lot different than the ones I frequent on the other side of the Cape, but it's still beautiful in a different way. It was insanely windy on the day I visited and sand was flying all over the place. I wanted to take a walk on the beach, but left after a few minutes of taking photos. Pets are prohibited at this beach from Memorial Day to Labor Day. They do have a porta potty as you enter the beach, but no snack bars or anything like that. My favorite part of the Cape for beaches is still Wellfleet.

Tiny parking lot fills up quickly, well into the evening. Beaches on Cape Cod Bay provide a once in a lifetime experience. At high and low tide one can walk hundreds of yards out into the water via sandbars. Truly a dreamlike experience.

Enjoy a great sunset! Sand is super soft but the no-see-ums will get you when the sun starts going down. Bring bug spray. Can be a little rocky when swimming so water shoes could be helpful.

Want a tip? Get a tide schedule and check for low tide after 4:30PM (that's when they stop charging for parking at all Dennis Beaches). Parking lot with be mostly empty. There is nothing like walking Chapin Beach at low tide at sunset. It's absolutely spectacular. You can walk for miles in the white sand. Another tip? There are rocks at the shore line. Pay attention and you will see some paths that your bare feet will thank you for finding. Another tip? Bring some dinner (take out pizza?), chairs and a table and have yourself a picnic with some of the best views on the Cape. Want to go during the day in season? Get there early because the lot is small and will fill up from overflow at Mayflower. Personally, we prefer it over Mayflower because there is more space and it's not as crowded. The critter hunting is not as good as Corporation Beach, but it's much better than Mayflower. Warned, there are only porta-potties.

The most beautiful beach in the world!! Low tide you can walk waaay out on the mudflats. Pay attention to what time the tide turns at though and don't catch yourself swimming back!! Very relaxed beach, great for families. Pure Heaven

My favorite beach on the Cape. Expansive and beautiful, with people far and wide, and soft, beautiful sand. Loved it here! Not too noisy, and not a lot of seaweed!

Beautiful beach! Definitely get there early for parking since it is a small lot. Typically on the weekdays it fills up by 9:30 AM. Usually $25 on weekdays and $30 on weekends for parking. Depending on high or low tide, low tide is nothing I have ever seen before. You can walk for miles and miles on the bottom of the ocean when the tide goes out and the water is really warm.

Beautiful tidal beach for beach combing, swimming and walking the pups (off season only).

Somewhat rocky near entry and dunes but very fine soft silty sand as you follow low tide out to the sandbar.

It was about a 20 min walk (or 2 minute drive) from our cottage and free to get on to, which is unheard of in Jersey! You do have to pay for parking ($30 on weekends and $20 on weekdays) so that, plus the walk being the only form of exercise we all got for 7 days straight, was all the motivation we needed for skipping the car. The water was nearly dead still all week, no garbage anywhere and lifeguards were on duty most of the time. They made sure to clear the water when any sign of a storm was coming in and left us alone the rest of the time. One of my friends was terrified of sharks so she was a beach bum the whole time while me and my other friend would hang out in the water at least half the day. Sure, it was cold, but it was also SO hot on the sand, so super cold water was welcomed. I loved loved loved how not crowded this beach was. Again, coming from Jersey beaches, it's unheard of!! But we had so much room from other people and never felt like we were too close. A great place for a beach day (or week)!

He had invited friends and family down, we had discussed it and felt safe and comfortable with going. I rarely go to the beach, my fair skin, even with all the sunblock, ends up burning. However I try to go at least once a year for a swim, be it the ocean or a lake. The water, super refreshing on a hot summer day! Being about 60-something degrees, it was a shock at first, but then easily adapted to the temperature. The water was opaque from the seaweed being agitated, it was nice how deep the water got. However, 'Jaws' scared the crap out of me as a kid so I felt a little uneasy since it is not a harbor or bay, but just jutting along the open ocean on the outside portion of the Cape. So being in water where the seafloor drops off, in opaque water, made me a little anxious. The only good thing is knowing there are no seals nearby (sharks are attracted to areas with them, and attacks happen in less then 3 feet of water). Oh did I mention a tip is to not swim in murky water? Anyways, now that I have you paranoid about swimming here, the beach is beautiful and plenty of open space, and life gaurds are present.

Our 4 year old met new friends each and every time here, the bathrooms were clean, the snack bar had frozen slushies and other treats. Low tide is fun and there's always lot of hermit crabs to catch. We were very impressed with our visit here, even with the price still being $30- but if you can also buy a weekly pass for $90 if you're planning on coming everyday which makes it worth it.
