The canal bike path is beautiful - peaceful, pristine, and not crowded. It was challenging for us to go the full 13 miles up and back (we aren't experienced cyclists so it took about 2 hours), but we only had to stop a couple times. But if you are looking for a house, large or small, to share with family and friends, it's a perfect area. Our home would be rented almost entirely by January, with high quality, well-vetted renters filling our home weekly for the entire summer. Their fee is relatively high but fair, considering they do all of the work and we never needed to interface in any way with our renters. They also were helpful with recommending local services as needed and made great suggestions to improve the overall desirability of our home for rental. I'd recommend going through Beach Realty for all rental needs. They are true professionals with a real pulse on the East Sandwich/upper Cape housing and rental market.
