I really hope this place does well. We enjoyed CB Açaí and were sad to see it go, but glad that Scratch has taken over the space. I went today for their soft open during lunchtime. They were already fairly busy and my sandwich took awhile, but I'm sure they are working out the kinks. It was worth the wait, though, as it was one of the best bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches I've had in a long time (the single-hander on the menu). The brioche bun was great, the eggs were cooked perfectly and the maple bacon was delicious. Looking forward to going back soon and seeing the full menu when it is ready. read more

This place has soul. The moment I walked in, a patron leaving said in passing "if this is your first time here, you're gonna love it". Yes limited seating but it adds to the charm and family feel. The main guy was super warm and welcoming, cracking jokes here and there to the back kitchen and the guests. You can tell a place is especially warm, by how they talk to kids. Fresh corn muffins to start which were complimentary. Wait staff attentive to details like coffee refills, drinks etc. food was great- scrambled eggs were soft, pancakes fluffy. The only negative for me was they had the tv on (cartoons) for the kids which some may appreciate but harder to have a family breakfast and conversation of the kids are zombies and glued to the television. All in all, a lovely quaint family spot and we will definitely return! read more

Nice atmosphere! We sat outdoors on the patio. Great brunch! Incredible sausage patties and well-seasoned home fries! My husband got the breakfast burrito (choice of meat, cheese, and veggies! Absolutely the best customer service from Meggie (Maggie with an "e" instead of the "a". She took care of us even though we showed up at 2:20pm when they closed at 3pm (and kitchen closed at 2:30pm). When we apologized for being so late, she kindly said "No problem at all! It is our pleasure!" I would normally not do this but I have to because of how horrible the service and rude the cashier at the Scratch Kitchen was. We were not given a table to sit, we found one ourselves at the bar. Order a latte, they gave a cup no sugar , i had to go pick it myself. Went and asked for water, he gave me one when we were two of us. I had to stand again to go get straw. But the last one was, we were patiently waiting (me and my toddler) for food and the cashier/ Manager asked me to move our seat and just gave our order on table to go, when we were clearly dining in. I did mention the service is bad (even after tipping 20%) and cashier said "you can leave, god bless you". I think I am done with this place. This place was on our list of favorites in the area and wanted to support a small business with a backstory. I love to support small businesses but this was a horrible experience that should never have happened. I looked online at the restaurant's website before we came and decided we would both order the Cobb Salad for lunch. When we walked in there were several open tables and a man who is presumably the manager/host barked at us to sit at a specific table which was directly in the sun so we declined and sat at an open table not in direct sun. He was extremely rude from then on. I ordered 2 Cobb salads and he said "it's a turkey cobb". I said per your menu it comes with turkey OR grilled chicken and I started to pull out my phone to show him what I had just looked up and he said fine you can have it with chicken. My Mom said can I get grilled chicken" and his response was "what other way"? Then we get the salads and it was such a paper thin layer of ingredients for $15 each we both had to stop on the way home to get something to eat. Worse - I got the check and he charged me an "additional charge/upcharge" of $6 for the grilled chicken that their own online menu (see pic attached) claims it comes with. Upcharges are normally listed on menus OR the wait staff is supposed to let customers know. He was so rude the entire time I had no plans to argue with him. I went home and looked online again and sure enough the menu was as I posted. I called my credit card company and they are going to help me dispute this erroneous charge. $15 for that salad was a ripoff to begin with I'm not paying $21 for it with that upcharge. What can i say, my first time LAST TIME HERE! Ordered the Sirloin tips and omelette with provolone cheese when my meal arrived 15 minutes later with only 3 tables occupied the order was a bit short of Right. My omelette didn't have the cheese that was ordered with them,when i inquired about it the server brought me a bowl with melted cheese which had me in laughable shock. Came here with my mother, the place was slammed and we noticed no one had their food, everyone was waiting. We went up and ordered 2 coffees and 2 muffins. It took the man behind the counter 20 minutes to get this order to us. He took our order and then went back to the kitchen and stayed there, meanwhile we are waiting at the counter looking at both the coffee machine and the muffins.... Upon getting out order, my mom asked for cream. She was given milk and then she asked if they had cream. At that point the man grabbed the coffee out of my mothers hand and told her "have a nice day" -- this is unacceptable and extremely disrespectful. I will not be coming back and strongly discourage anyone giving this place any business. read more

My son and i had brunch here. He ordered a cheese burger on brioche, I had a philly. We were not prepared for the deliciousness that was delivered. The Philly was mouth watering, the red and green peppers were incredible. The steak was absolutely mouth watering. The cheeseburger was perfect on brioche. I may make this a weekly visit, since i need to be in this area for appointments. The weather was perfect and the outdoor seating felt amazing. I'm reviewing and giving 4 stars based on several factors that I feel made this score. Food was delicious, served promptly little on the expensive side, but that's ok when it's good quality, but plates lacked in presentation. Unfortunately it was a chilly windy day otherwise sitting outside on their patio would be nice even though it is technically in their parking lot. But it's a relatively quiet area set away from Georgia Ave. Inside is small, there are 5 tables and a few seats at the bar by the front window. Tables are set with paper towel rolls and appeared that salt and pepper shakers were shared amongst tables. Ours was taken for another table without sanitizing between tables nor were tables wiped down between customers, which I hope owners will bring as a new protocol. We dined in after ordering at the counter as we were not aware we could order from the table and have sit down service. The young man working the counter taking orders was very polite and patient. Once we sat down, it wasn't long before our meal came out. Only constructive criticism that I hope they change is the gentleman came back to the table after delivering the food with hand carrying the utensils. That didn't sit well with either of us. The other unfortunate observation was the table next to us asked for water at least 5 times both when placing their order as well as several times when food brought out on 2 different visits and after. We purchased a tiny bottled water not realizing water could be served at the table. The first impression walking in the door is more like a carryout with seating instead of a restaurant style, sit down & be served type establishment. Seemed other's that arrived after us were greeted and made known they could have a seat at a table and provided menus. I did read the dinner menu & saw several items that looked good, so a return for dinner might be in the future. Love the owners story and having a healthy farm to table concept is something refreshing and hope they succeed. As a side note, there is one communal restroom. Good experience overall, but in these days where we are conscientious about cleanliness and keeping away cross contaminations wasn't so confident. Glad this place is here. It's not expensive and its close to me. The parking lot is not the best but manageable. I ordered the $14 breakfast and asked to add 2 more pancakes. It was a language barrier, do after several minutes of communicating, the manager came out and said he would give me an order of 4 pancakes for free. I said that I didn't want it for free, I just wanted 2 individual pancakes to my order. The food was great! You can taste the quality of the ingredients. Amazing first time visit to the Scratch Kitchen. We met the owner, who was very friendly & inviting. A delightful small cafe set up. Perfect for a day date, friends meet up or a mommy & me. Not large enough for a family of more than 4. Quaint & cute atmosphere. The menu is authentic. We loved the different options. Fresh brewed coffee was delightful. This place just opened 4 weeks ago but you can't really tell. The operation seems to flow very smoothly. The owner let me taste a little stuffed donut that they make with raspberry which was unbelievable. The place is very pretty bright and clean with a lovely little outdoor seating area. They have a small but very interesting menu a mixture of classics with a little extra twist. Lovely handmaid desserts and a good selection of teas and drinks et cetera to go with your meal. I ordered the double hander which is a soft shell crab with eggs bacon and tomatoes on a brioche bun with terragon Mayonnaise. It was as big as 2 sandwiches and tasted delicious. Heard another lady praising the lox and bagel extravagantly. She tried it and said it was excellent, the salmon was very tender. The chicken and waffles with crab dip were also great per the folks at the next table. This place is a tiny jewelry in a nondescript strip mall in Olney but well worth the effort to find it.
