Actually a 2.5 star review rounded up. So the prior reviews made this place look outstanding so I suffered the wrath of a child and switched our destination from CFA to here. We ordered the Whotella, brunch burger, crab cake and children's wrap. Every dish felt oddly not configured from scratch. The brunch burger may not have been a from scratch patty with a quickly thrown together salad and a lot of onion on top. The Whotella changed animals and became a mouse, which then had to be explained. The kids wrap was big enough for an adult. The crab cake was seared and close to completely singed to a 1/8 inch size with no flavor but salt emanating. The bacon was perfect and although I couldn't tell if they were hand cut or frozen, the hash was also crispy and yummy. The serving staff was amazing and the place feels like a cute beach town restaurant , but I don't think in good conscience I'd recommend it. I may try it again. read more

Staff is all smiles and welcoming which is very refreshing for a restaurant post pandemic. Tucked away in a little strip on the corner of Georgia and 108. GO! The food is consistently delicious, the ambiance is bright and welcoming, and the price is unbeatable. Walk in, order, eat, pay then leave within like 30 mins! Awesome quick service with yummy food! Extremely kind employees, although a small restaurant, the people here have big hearts and care for their customers. Lots of natural light inside the restaurant and a small patio with some tables! Very chill spot. Fairly new restaurant that opened up in Olney on Georgia Ave. The turn for it is pretty quick, so if you miss it you might get yourself lost. They offer all sorts of food -- mainly brunch items, such as omelets and breakfast croissant sandwiches, but there are salads as well! There's a fresh orange juice they make behind the register and it's cool seeing those oranges churning in there. It's a great spot to work at during the day... well, it's your only option since they close at 3:00 haha. Beware though -- during lunch time, it gets busy! The warmer months aren't in issue since you can sit outside, but the inside can fit 20 people max. Once you're settled though, hopefully you get a chance to chat with the owners or see the kids running things. Sometimes they make mistakes, but they're young, they'll learn! And I feel like it adds to the family element. It's a bit of a hike for me, but whenever I'm in the area, I stop by. And you should too! read more

Went to Scratch Kitchen this morning. Atmosphere really inviting. Very warm greeting upon entering. Food delicious. Two of us had the Big Scratch Egg Platter. Eggs cooked perfectly, home fries, sausage, and a pancake. Our other person had the Single Hander Sandwich. Eggs cooked perfectly, bacon, home fries, chedar cheese on a brioche bun. All and all, it was a really good experience. We are thankful to the couple that recomended Scratch to us at Sol Azteca. read more

Stopped by Scratch Kitchen & Bistro mid-week for brunch. Ordering over the phone was easy and my order was ready at the time mentioned. The parking lot is interesting and parking could be a little difficult to find. Although dining in was limited, there was some outdoor seating and indoor seating as well. I tried the Single Hander, which was a breakfast sandwich with two eggs (I ordered mine over hard), cheese of your choice (cheddar for me when it comes to breakfast sandwiches), and Canadian bacon ($3+, they also have bacon and sausage). The sandwich was good, but pretty standard. The egg was huge compared to the croissant, which was soft and flaky. Canadian bacon was a little on the dry side as it was overcooked. I also tried some of the chicharron and yuca, which I wasn't a fan of sadly. I found both to be overcooked and the chicharron to be dry. I'd definitely pass on this one next time around. There's some items on their menu that sound interesting, so I may make my way back Scratch Kitchen & Bistro when I'm in the area. read more

Cute little homey hole in the wall, type of place. The food was good. The guy running everything was cool. & the food came out quickly. & we got a good amount of food for $45, that we were able to split. I was disappointed there was no lobster or crabs cakes at the time. I'm giving this place a 3 out of 5 because their menu is pretty ordinary. I was really excited to try Scratch Kitchen & Bistro as I saw many reviews raving about the food. We stopped for a brunch carry out order and the disappointment didn't stop... From the moment I walked into the restaurant, I was never greeted, although a waitress and another guy were walking back and forth, joking with each other. When I was finally asked what I could be helped with, I was given my order which I stood there and watched getting placed on a Uber eats cart to the side. When I got home, I was disappointed by the food and presentation. Everything was cold. I purposely chose scrambled eggs and crispy bacon because I wanted my food well done, but my eggs were runny and my bacon was soft. I was given one tiny thing of butter for my order of French toast and a pancake. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, was bland. I barely touch salt when it comes to cooking but I went for both salt and pepper when I got home. There were 5 blueberries and no cinnamon for my cinnamon French toast with berries. My pancake was burnt. The 3 eggs in my big breakfast looked like they used baby eggs for the amount that I got. Nothing about my experience was amazing like the many reviews I read. The restaurant itself is on a small strip mall surrounded by other small restaurants. Parking wasn't awful but the indoor dining space is very limited. Fun fun fun! This place is fun. It's kinda small on the inside but there's a ton of outdoor seating. Obviously, you can get stuff to go too. That they do breakfast all day is one of its biggest selling points. We ordered a cherry danish, pancakes, and the lobster roll (with a side of onion rings). Oh yeah...and orange juice. All of the food was deeeeelish! The pancakes were perfectly cooked, the cherry danish was a perfect balance of pastry and filling, and the lobster roll had a TON of lobster on it, it was in a very tasty tarragon mayo, and the roll was toasted just right. Also the onion rings were perfectly cooked. The fresh squeezed orange juice was surprisingly just okay. The biggest issue with it was that it was on ice...which will quickly dilute a lovely freshly squeezed anything. I'd either skip it next time or try and remember to ask for no ice (honestly, they should ask you that when you order it). We stopped by scratch kitchen for breakfast recently and while the menu is very limited, the food was delicious. The woman behind the counter was also super kind and welcoming. I got the single hander and my husband got the burger off the lunch menu. I appreciate the brioche buns bc who doesn't love a brioche?! My husbands one wish was that he had the option of regular fries. He's not a fan of sweet potatoes so the fries were kind of lost on him. We'll likely be back. I'm looking forward to what other menu items they have up their sleeves. read more

I saw this place had some good reviews so my husband and I decided to try it. The place was very small and didn't have many tables but since we went at opening time, we didn't have a problem getting a table. I got the American breakfast platter and I think my husband got the steak and eggs. We both liked our food but I probably would prefer my husband's dish after trying it lol. This was a really nice surprise. They have outdoor seating. I got a breakfast burrito and it came with seasoned fried potatoes, sour cream and salsa. It was delicious and fresh and the service was really friendly. I asked to pay early since I only had a short amount of time. She brought me a to go container as well. I'll definitely be back. I would not eat here. the breakfast was not good. Pancakes taste like rubber, turkey bacon was rough, orange juice was sour and the breakfast potatoes were not cooked through. I think the server may have been new because she didn't really know the menu and had to keep coming back to clarify our order. Not really her fault if she is new. The owner or the manager was rude to me from the beginning and I think he didn't want us to eat here. The venue is small, can fit about ten people inside but there is outdoor seating. We sat outside, and unfortunately the flies came so we went inside, he didn't seem happy about that. I ordered coffee and had to get up to ask for it to be brought to me. she over filled the cup so there was no room for almond milk (again I think she was new), so I poured out some of the coffee outside. The owner/manager got very upset that I poured it outside, he said I ruined the patio and that I was the cause of having flies out there which i thought was strange, I've never seen flies attracted to coffee. Ordered delivery. Ordered breakfast empanada with bacon in it but received just eggs and cheese in it. There are two empanadas in an order and neither had the bacon in it. I ordered a side of bacon for someone else and french fries. I don't think the eggs are real scrambled eggs, or they have something added to them. Maybe they're eggbeaters. The french fries were not fried or perhaps fried in an air fryer. I have never had french fries like these sort of steamed with a little bit of oil on them. The skins are on the fries, but I had to throw them out because they were not good. read more

I really want to love this place but time and time again, I haven't had a good experience, mainly with the gentleman at the front. Came one morning and right after we ordered, I added French toast by walking and asking for it to be added. It came about 20min after our other food came (a bagel and a plate of eggs), while others ordered after us continued to get their food. When asking about it, was basically made to think it was my fault. Someone brought pancakes out at one point which was confusing. The French toast finally arrived and when asking for the check, low and behold, pancakes were charged instead of French toast. We received no apology and was given attitude from the start. The food is decent, no complaints there; but it's really hard to support an establishment where the individuals are rude and condescending. read more

I popped into Scratch today for breakfast. It's in that weird, awkward plaza in Olney on Georgia and Olney-Layonsville -- parking is tough and access isn't easy. I just parked at the other plaza where Popeyes is and walked over. It's a small place, and it was a might crowded on a Sunday; standing room was limited, let alone sitting, so I got mine to go. I grabbed an orange juice and their interesting sounding soft shell crab breakfast sandwich. It's crab, egg, and bacon on a bun. The bun itself was fantastic, and the eggs and crab worked together oddly and deliciously. The bacon was a little over powering for the other flavours, and I might order it without if I get another (sacrilege, I know). Absolutely the best customer service from Meggie (Maggie with an "e" instead of the "a". She took care of us even though we showed up at 2:20pm when they closed at 3pm (and kitchen closed at 2:30pm). When we apologized for being so late, she kindly said "No problem at all! It is our pleasure!" She even got us coffee even though we had been kindly told that they were out of coffee by another employee. She was very friendly, social, and made us feel welcomed the whole time! We were excited to support a local small business, but were sadly disappointed with the quality of food as well as lack of service or ambience. Prices are comparable to those of an upscale restaurant, but the quality of food is more along the lines of a roadside fast food joint. The eggs were tasteless, cheese was reminiscent of Velveeta, pancakes dry and unflavorful, syrup and latte had strong artificial flavoring. The servers never checked on us and the entire time we were dining, there was a loud chatter between the servers and the host, and blaring MTV style music from a large TV screen in the small dining space.
