Think black-and-white checkered floors, red/chrome chairs and counter stools, a soundtrack of '50s and '60s classics, and waitresses happily singing along while they work. The atmosphere feels welcoming, lived-in, and full of personality. The food is straightforward, affordable, and exactly what you'd hope for from a classic American breakfast. You don't come here for an açaí bowl or an eggs Benedict flight--you come because you're hungry, you want your eggs cooked right, and you know you'll be taken care of. Places like this become community staples for a reason. The service was warm, the energy in the room was contagious, and the whole experience reminded me why diners like this make me so happy. We'll definitely be back, and next time I'm looking forward to trying the lunch menu.

I first tried…read moreCanal Wigwam about a decade ago (I have lived in Canal for 13 years now) and had such a poor experience that I didn't return until today. I thought that I would give it a shot again, but the food was just as disappointing as my first try. The service is great though! Everyone seems to be friendly and kind! We stopped by around 10 AM today (Saturday). Every table was full (so clearly others do like the food/service). My husband and I started off with a cup of coffee while our daughter got a glass of chocolate milk. The coffee was watery and bland (although they have a sign up front about having the world's best coffee). Be prepared to wait a while for your food. It took almost 45 minutes for us to get ours; however, it was understandable considering every table was full! For food, my daughter got the cinnamon roll. She absolutely loved it! She said that it was super soft and ooey-gooey! My husband ordered the steak and eggs. He ordered the steak medium, but it came out very well-done (super chewy). I tried his home fries with his side of bacon and both of those were good! My daughter enjoyed the bacon too! I had the biscuits and gravy and a side of "cheesy" scrambled eggs. A big no to both! The biscuits were undercooked and the gravy just tasted like a large clump of flour! The "cheesy" scrambled eggs were tough scrambled eggs with some shredded cheese sprinkled on the top! While the food was not "it" for me, there are other things that I do enjoy about Canal Wigwam! It's a cute little diner located in the center of our comforting and cozy town! They promote many other local businesses through their "decor" - the dining tables are designed with local businesses flyers/contact information, their coffee mugs promote another local business, etc. Again, I really want to like the food here, but for some reason - my taste buds do not agree!

After a really rough day on the lanes, we were hongry (yes, I spelled that correctly) and wanted soul food. The soul food place we'd visited the last time we were in Columbus closes at 6pm. It's a little after 7. So trusting my fellow Yelpers, I searched out soul food and Kays was very near our hotel. They, the Yelpers, as usual, got it right. Those of you who know us, know that we go in hard. Especially when the place has good customer service reviews. Our fellow Yelpers did not lie. The place is a kitchen staff by Kay herself and a young lady whom I'm assuming is her daughter? Nonetheless, her booming personality and jovial demeanor made us not care about what was cooking in her kitchen! We wanted it. The hand written flipboard menu was nothing less than charming. Made me feel like I was at grandma's where she put a note on the refrigerator saying this is what's for dinner. Don't spoil your appetite before then. Not an expansive daily special menu, which was cool, because when you haven't eaten since breakfast, you tend to go hog wild at the mere thought of food, and typically can't settle on anything. Pimp had pork chops, rice and gravy, and greens. I had the catfish and macaroni and cheese. When I say the silence was palpable when Pimp started chomping that chop ... He completely left the building. Him, pork chops, rice and gravy were in a different ethosphere. He did wish there was more gravy though. Greens were tender and well seasoned. My catfish was rolled with hands that had done family reunion fish frys for a long time. Well seasoned, coated and fried to perfection. The macaroni and cheese had the creamy, stringiness that you like to play with before you fly it into your mouth. It definitely had personality. But the coup de grace was indeed the service. I am completely angry, because we need to eat in this woman's kitchen at least once a month, and Columbus is 3 1/2 hours away from Detroit! The Saraga International Market is interesting in and of itself, but I'll post a different review on that. Kudos Ms. Kay. We're looking forward to them oxtails on our way home tomorrow and to many visits in the future.

I have to admit that ever since moving to Columbus 6 years ago, I've felt that great soul food is hard to come by here, but hers is definitely the exception! Came on a Sunday afternoon and tried the stuffed salmon combo. You are allowed to pick how many sides you want, and the price increases accordingly. I opted for mac n cheese and collard greens, and the greens were some of the best I've ever tried at a restaurant. Also was given a huge portion well worth the price. She was kind enough to let me sample her turkey and dressing which were delicious too. I'll definitely be back!

Good things - -The staff is usually pretty kind and friendly. - Our timbit orders have never been incorrect...they may have been stale, but never incorrect. Needs improvement - (Here is my feedback just from today). - Forgot to give me my toasted bagel with cream cheese. Oh, and only one side of my bagel had cream cheese? This seems to happen a lot which I don't understand. Aren't both sides supposed to be spread? - Hot peppermint mocha latte was not hot and tasted like black coffee. TIP - Avoid ordering this drink altogether! This is my second time ordering it. Both times have been a disappointment as it just tastes like a weak black coffee - there's no peppermint flavor to the drink at all. - Hashbrown was burnt and hard as a rock. - Although I had over four food items - not a single napkin was provided in any of my bags. It seems that napkins are never provided at this locations and I ALWAYS have to ask for them. Why do we have to ask for napkins? The irony in all of this is that my daughter and I have never had a poor experience when we actually have time to order inside or dine in. It's like all of the "bad food" gets served through the drive thru. I think that the drive thru needs to step up theirs game a little bit in order to increase these star ratings. I

El Tacoriendo - Columbus, OH…read more The building looks like the kind of spot you'd second-guess after dark--like pulling up to a Linden carryout when the streetlights flicker--but trust me, If you judge a taco by the tortilla (and honestly, you should), this place is worth checking out. I tried four different tacos, all excellent: * Asada - Tender and smoky, almost buttery in a warm corn tortilla that stayed together the whole time. * Suadero - Melt-in-your-mouth tender, with a gentle richness that made it feel almost luxurious compared to the usual grilled beef. Not greasy, just satisfying. * Cecina - Salty and deeply savory, the kind of flavor you keep thinking about later. * Barbacoa - Soft and shredded, perfect for soaking up lime juice. Each taco was loaded with fresh cilantro, chopped onions, grilled onions, and cucumber slices. Pricing & Portions * Tacos run about $3.50 each. * Even after skipping lunch, two were plenty to fill me up. * Extra salsas are $0.50 each, and worth it. Salsas * Green salsa: Mild, fresh, and bright. * Red salsa: A little kick without being too spicy. * Both were great together, but the meat was seasoned well enough to eat plain. Atmosphere & Service * Bright painted chairs and colorful walls give it a casual, welcoming feel. * The dining room has plenty of space between tables and a laid-back vibe. * My takeout order was packed neatly in sturdy containers and ready in about 10 minutes. * Staff were friendly and patient when I had questions about the menu. ‍ Final Take If you're tired of tacos that taste mass-produced, this spot will feel like a small revelation. After a 4/4 win, I'm already planning to come back to try some of their more unique proteins (like lengua, buche, or tripe). Consider this your sign to give them a shot. 5/5 - Come hungry, leave happy, and maybe start debating what to order next before you even get back to your car.
