When we encountered a swarm of bees buzzing around beneath the roof tile in the front of our house, we immediately went to a local hardware store to purchase a repellent. It had some impact, but it was clear that there was likely a hive--and possibly a large one.
We searched online for companies that we might call. Listed among others was "Scott the Bee Man," whose site provided a comprehensive overview. We called him, and he turned out to be--as advertised--an experienced, tell-it-like-it-is "bee man."
We explained our situation in general--and after his quick drill-down, precise follow-up questions to which we supplied answers, Scott succinctly outlined on the phone what, based on that which we had told him, likely needed to be done. He gave us a spot-on estimate, and, fortunately for us, he said he had just received a cancellation for later in the day--and some four hours later, he showed up, literally within seconds of his estimated time of arrival.
In addition to showing him the "activity" in the front of our house, we walked with him around the perimeter to see if there was additional evidence of activity. Scott's thoroughness was apparent. He quickly told us how he would address the problem, including removing any "hidden" hives--and it turns out there was one.
Scott donned his garb and placed a sign on our front sidewalk--alerting any passersby to the fact that bees were in the process of being removed. He also darted across the street to alert a neighbor's landscaper about the bee removal. Then he climbed his ladder and went to work. While we were in the safety of our house, he texted updates and photos of the swarm, as well as photos of the thick hives he located in the wood beneath the roof tile.
In less than two hours, he had removed the hives and neatly stacked the wood he had to remove to get at them. He then hosed down the plants and lawn where he had been working.
Scott quickly, succinctly and thoroughly explained everything he had done. He also texted photos of where he had removed the hives and wood from the exterior of our house to another contractor he had worked with many times previously. That person, Greg Martinez, is adept at repairs of this nature. Greg then quickly emailed a cost estimate to do the repairs and painting to Scott, who forwarded the estimate to us. We quickly coordinated with Greg, who also turned out to be punctual, amicable, professional and skilled.
Bottom line: The entire process--from initial phone call to project completion--went far smoother than we had any right to expect, and for which we are grateful. Scott was quick to respond; articulate; professional; knowledgeable; careful; and efficient--right down to helping us coordinate the wood repairs and touch-up painting with Greg.
We hope we never have to deal with a swarm of bees again--but, if we do, we'll know who to call immediately. read more
