The staff are friendly and the coffee is always good! The croissants and bagels are my favorites. Worth a stop if you're in the area.

It's nice to see an old school bakery. Schneider's Bakery can get busy but the staff behind the counter know how to keep it moving. I tried their plain old fashioned donut and i was VERY happy with it. I love a good simple donut and this one delivered. My boyfriend and I stopped by while in town for a cinnamon roll, gingerbread cookie, and coffee (not pictured). We were not impressed with the treats as they both lacked flavor. The coffee was okay. Hubby ordered the walnut danish - which really looked like a cinnamon roll. It was packed with walnuts and not overly sweet. The coffee was as hot as it can be without being burnt. Personally, I was not able to order anything as no vegan options were available. read more

So we are from out of town and my first time. Omg... I should be thankful because I would be 300 pounds if I lived anywhere near this place. We were just stopping through on the way to visit our son in college and bought dozens of cookies, pastries etc to take to school. We ate their famous pizza that just came out of the oven and the bread and sauce were equally the bomb! My lumberjack latte was fantastic! I'm actually still drinking it bc I wanted to write a beverage review as soon as I could. I have no idea where any rude staff was reading past reviews. Ian helped us and he is the owners son and was so helpful, patient,nice and appreciative!! He had great recommendations and we took them all! The sugar cookies are amazingly decorated and delicious as well! I literally cannot say enough! Ian took the time to tell us of the three generations that have run the bakery since 1887- really cool story ! I go to Cooperstown about once a month. Schneider's is a must. I try to behave myself once inside. I've never gotten anything there I didn't like. My favorite is their walnut cinnamon Danish. It's really more of a cinnamon roll with walnuts. Worth every calorie. They also have the best old-fashioned doughnuts anywhere. I'm talking about the doughnuts you use for dunking. They're not powdered or frosted, just old school plain doughnuts. They have powdered and frosted doughnuts, but the old fashioned are perfect with coffee. I'm also a fan of their cookies. They have a great variety. The chocolate dipped peanut butter cookies is amazing. The service is always friendly and are great at answering questions ("There aren't raisins in that, are there?") It's a great old school bakery. If I walk out with only one thing, I pat myself on the back for having will power. read more

Good donuts and nice service. Lots of variety. Unfortunately, no salt was added to the concrete walk out front of the store. So on the way out I fell and busted my knee heading back to my car. It's a hit or miss with this place for me. Pastries are yummy, as well their breads. They always seem to switch it up, and have fun themed cookies. Donuts are decent. What I really like about this place is they save their products at the end of the day, and sell it the next day for about half off. Breads I have gotten from here a day old are still delicious. Pop it in the oven/ toaster and you've got deliciousness. Coffee is good, nothing special. Good location for a quick bite to eat. The only negative I've ever had here is strange customer service interactions. It may be due to covid and just hostile times right now, or maybe because they're so busy and overwhelmed at times. I have gotten the wrong order multiple times, when ordering a variety of cookies, and then when I went back in had to pay again for the correct product, because they can't take back what you walked out the door with, which I get. Bring your kiddos here, they'll love the cookies. read more

This place has amazing pastries. I got myself an apple dumpling and a couple cookies as well as their little souvenir bracelet since I'm out of town and visiting here. Wow....I just got off with the manager (who didn't call me back so I had to call her) my husband ordered 6 anniversary B &W cookies which arrived melted and crumbled up in a plastic bag basically inedible The manager was extremely defensive and told me that it's not their responsibility and if I don't like how I came I shouldn't order anymore and hung up on me. This place had rave reviews, plus very cute cookies in the window. Baseball themed, as we are in baseball town USA. I also had a delicious "half moon" cookie which was their version of the black and white. It had a chocolate cookie base though, but it was still good. The blueberry muffin is loaded with berries and very moist but the most special item in the shop was the baseball iced cookie. 2 of our boys had them and then went on to hit their first ever home runs at Cooperstown Dreams Park. they are so unfriendly and local town gossip. Funny they say fresh baked goods yet have heard some are prepackaged frozen. I also don't enjoy the fact we eat 1-2 day old passeriez that have a stale taste. Would not recommend to anyone local or tourist. Have heard bad things from numerous employees about working there and how awful they were treated. I just can't understand how they get some of any business. What better way to celebrate a good doctor's appointment for my love than a stop at Schneider's Bakery for something sweet. We went with a Cream Puff and a Lemon Square to share. We both throughly enjoyed the Cream Puff, the pastry was light and airy while the cream was nice and chilled straight from the case, rich and yummy. The Lemon Square was just OK, I prefer a lemon curd filling that's thicker and Dawn noted oats as part of the base detracted from the overall taste. Schneider's has a nice bakery selection from breads to cookies to chocolate delights. There should be something for everyone. There are two tables inside with four chairs each. A cold drink case and a coffee bar is also available. I highly recommend stopping in for a treat. read more

This is one of those places that makes you think the baked goods are out of this world because they have been in business for so long, but it really isn't all that great. We have gone there a handful of times over the years for treats and though satisfied, it doesn't stand out among other bakeries. I bought a birthday cake for the first time this year and if I hand't been told by one of the other workers ahead of time that the cake would not come decorated unless I asked, I would have been profoundly disappointed. The person who took my order didn't volunteer the information so I think there is something wrong here. There is a lack of professionalism and I can't give a bakery a good review in good faith knowing that they aren't helpful in making sure they have your order they way you want it. This bakery has a page on Facebook but they remove all unfavorable reviews and sometimes block the customers. I have read other reviews about rudeness and unprofessionalism here and, as a local, I can understand exactly what they are taking about. This all comes from the top. The employees work hard and it is a very busy setting, particularly in the summer when the tourist season begins. However, if there is enough coverage, the workers won't feel overworked and curt with customers as a result. The owners of this place need to do some serious soul searching about why its necessary to create such a toxic work environment. Is it any surprise that the "Help Wanted" sign is never down? Great customer service can only be achieved if the workers feel valued, and properly compensated. It's obvious this isn't happening here. read more

Genuinely terrible, upsetting, and ultimately disgusting experience here. I'm ashamed of myself for just standing idly by but I watched in shock, horrified as the owner and a young man working for her berated an elderly woman who didn't seem to understand their credit card policy. Truly offensive, rude, and unconscionable behavior. The way the owner treated this women (and it seems from reading other reviews, any customer who has the slightest complaint) is appalling. I can't understand why it's so hard for some people to treat others with a little kindness but even the elderly are fair game now? What is this country coming to? I've never had the courage to complain myself so I have to applaud this woman for advocating for herself and the rest of us because the truth is their policies are not clearly stated, they do charge you more for using a credit card without telling you, they don't tell you how much more, and they don't even show their prices on anything until they're ringing you up. It's confusing to me too! The fact that they couldn't be patient with an elderly woman who had the courage to politely but persistently ask for an explanation and a little fairness was bad enough but to quickly escalate from being extremely defensive to being openly hostile towards her in front of half a dozen bystanders just trying to buy some baked goods and have a nice day out was repulsive and disturbing. The owner's behavior wasn't the worst of it though. The young man working there couldn't just take a deep breath but instead thought it was okay and somehow socially acceptable to become aggressive and rude towards this poor woman who was half his size (telling her to never come back again when she truly was just confused and never said a single mean word to them). The young man even went so far as to ask a police officer who happened in for a coffee to forcibly remove this woman (cane and all, she could barely stand!). And again, she wasn't yelling, she wasn't being mean or rude, she wasn't making a disturbance, but the owner and this young man sure were! Indeed, those dishonors all go to the very rude and ultimately disgraceful owner and this young man. It was all a disgrace to Cooperstown and American small business in general. We're all struggling locally and don't need this kind of bad behavior hurting our town's image. The poor woman was just upset because she didn't understand but never once yelled or said an unkind word or did anything other than try to ask for a little fairness and stick up for herself. Thank God one man stepped up to intervene and she wasn't left all alone to be abused by these people but I'm ashamed of myself for not coming to her aid too and hope letting anyone who reads this know what kind of business they're supporting might make up for it in some small way but in truth it's those two who should be ashamed of themselves. The owner could have told this young man to show a little respect, apologized to this woman, and kept her cool, but instead they bullied her, humiliated her, and even abused police powers asking this poor officer to force an old woman out of their store. How do you two sleep at night or even look at yourselves in the mirror? Are you proud of yourselves, your business, and your behavior? I guess it helps that I've never loved their baked goods all that much but even if they were the best baked goods around (they're not), I'm definitely too disgusted by their behavior to ever eat anything made by someone who would treat anyone that way, especially an elderly woman. Not the kind of business or behavior we need in our community. read more
